Pinging AfD participants

[edit]

@Waxworker: @Zxcvbnm: @Archrogue: @Chocmilk03: Hi all, I've started putting together a list of sources that I'm planning on turning into an article here. I've pinged all of you who participated in the AfD from the Mod the Sims nomination to let you know (and to invite you to participate in building this thing up, although don't feel obliged to!). Particularly helpful here would be sources-gathering similar to what Waxworker pulled -- Sims 4 modding sources are easy to find and there's a plethora of them (ranging from weird NSFW stuff to how modding increases diversity and representation in the series), but it's much more difficult finding more stuff for the original and Sims 2. Using 'Skyrim modding' as a reference seems good, but I think there should be a header for each main game in the series if reliable sources discussing how the modding culture differs for each entry can be found. This is from my own personal experience with Sims mods, but the term "maxis match" seems to be mostly a Sims 4 thing, and the formatting of mods have differed over time, such as the Sims 3 using .sims3pack files alongside .package files, and the Sims 2 has some corruption issues in the base game that are mitigated with mods. Something that could be noted if sources are found (I was unable to find any, but anecdotally modders were upset by this back in the day) German company X Media released That's Life for the Sims 1 and That's Life 2 for the Sims 2, which are mod collections created without the permission of the original mod creators and sold commercially. There seems to be a lot of articles about sex mods for the Sims 4, but I was unable to find any for the Sims 3. The most popular Sims 3 sex mod was probably 'Oniki's Kinky World', and was making a bunch of money off Patreon similarly to WickedWhims. The Sims 3 corrupt doll issue could also probably be discussed, (refs: 1, 2, 3). Here's some miscellaneous potential sources: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Waxworker (talk) 16:19, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Waxworker: Thanks so much for all of this, it's extremely helpful! I'm debating whether or not to have it separated by game or by "themes" (e.g. a NSFW Mod-type header with content that discusses the evolution and changes throughout the games, instead of having all of the different games with each part separated out). We'll see how it unfolds as I start writing it. If there's anything else I should think of, let me know! Nomader (talk) 05:18, 26 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
