Welcome

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a reply to your post on the Wikipedia Help page about how to make live your draft article at User:Greenarama/Greenarama. On my screen, at the top of the page is a downpointing triangle. When I move the mouse pointer over it, there appears the option to "move" the article, then you can give your draft the title it should have in the mainspace as an article. I am an administrator, so your screen may not look the same. You have to be "autoconfirmed" on the basis of time and number of edits to be able to move an article. See Wikipedia:Moving a page#How to move a page for the mechanics of moving, which is how Wikipedians "rename" a page.

We appreciate encyclopedic contributions, but your draft article seems to be advertising or for promotional purposes, and your username suggests you may have a Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#conflict of interest in writing about the enterprise. Wikipedia does not allow advertising. For more information on this, see:

If you still have questions, there is a new contributor's help page, or you can write {{helpme}} below this message along with a question and someone will be along to answer it shortly. You may also find the following pages useful for a general introduction to Wikipedia:

I hope you enjoy editing Wikipedia! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Feel free to write a note on the bottom of my talk page if you want to get in touch with me. Again, welcome! Edison (talk) 16:41, 11 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended or used for publicity and/or promotional purposes. Please read the following carefully.

Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, celebrity or other well-known individual, or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements, and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but it is considered inappropriate for such groups to use Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not. See WP:FAQ/Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, or organization. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit again. Consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

What can I do now?

You are still welcome to write about something other than your company or organization. If you do intend to make useful contributions on some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, please see how to appeal a block.

Sorry that your initial experience with Wikipedia was so negative. You got hastily "whacked with the ban hammer" because you chose a username indicating a commercial connection, then you created a draft of an article which promoted the related commercial entity. Wikipedia is not the Yellow Pages or the classified ads, and does not exist to promote upcoming commercial ventures. I hope you will start again with a new username and edit Wikipedia to improve it, and create articles about notable subjects lacking articles, Best wishes. Request reason:

I understand why I was blocked. I understand that because my username was so close to my topic that you assumed this is to promote an event. However, as I explained earlier, I really just want people to be able to learn about this topic if they would like to. I don't know about you, but I know all my friends go to Wikipedia.

When I was discussing how to get the block lifted earlier I was told to come up with an edit to an existing Wikipedia page. I've finally found one. I was looking up information about President Ford, who was sworn in and gave his Inauguration speech in the White House East Room (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inauguration_of_Gerald_Ford). The I was looking up general presidential inaugurations (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_inauguration) and found that the Locations section has some discrepancies. First, it states the presidents that were not inaugurated at the Capitol, but Ford is not listed as he should be. Also, the section starts with, "All but one of the ceremonies..." which is incorrect not only because Ford makes it more than one, but already in that section there is more than one president and ceremony listed.

I hope you accept this as a peace offering. I have really tried to do whatever I was told and I would like nothing more than to change my username, if this one is approved and if you can assist me in how I go about changing it, and to get my Wikipedia page published about the Greenarama Home Show. Thank you. Greenarama (talk) 13:02, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

But aren't I doing the exact thing that all of your pages on specific flower shows are doing? I modeled my content off of those pages because they are both events.

Decline reason:

Your new username is fine. However, since you seem so singly devoted to your flower show, you'd have to show us that the show is notable enough for a Wikipedia article; i.e. two instances of non-trivial coverage in independent reliable sources. You'd also have to agree not to edit that article per our conflict of interest policy. — Daniel Case (talk) 16:18, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

unblock-auto|I've given revisions to current Wikipedia articles, 2 articles showing that Greenarama is newsworthy and I'm willing to change my username and not edit my own page anymore. I've even shown how my article is just like those of Garden Shows. Please help me with the next step. This has been a very long process and I've done everything asked of me. Do you know what happened to the page I was working on? I can't find it? It was Greenarama Home Show.

Decline reason:

Please stop using unblock requests to ask for help. You're already unblocked, so it is unnecessary. If you need help, just post your question on this page and add {{helpme}} directly before it. As for the page you were editing, it was deleted per speedy deletion criterion G11 because it was unambiguous advertising. GorillaWarfare talkcontribs 13:45, 11 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Greenarama Home Show requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 11:13, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is a significant event. This is the first home show of its kind, like it says in the article. I have had so much trouble posting this and I don't understand why. It's not for advertising reasons, its for people to learn more about a groundbreaking event.

To create an article in order to enable people to learn about an event is to promote that event. The fact that you describe that event as "groundbreaking" confirms that you are thinking in promotional terms. However, more important is the fact that the content of the article was solidly promotional in tone. JamesBWatson (talk) 14:10, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Use the wikipedia article wizard (WP:WIZARD) for creatiing a new article. There you get help! mabdul 14:11, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I have been through this before and I really wish you would all get on the same page because it's ridiculous that I have to keep re-explaining myself. I've played by your rules: I changed my username, I changed what I said in the article, which was approved by someone else, and I've even found different articles to fix up as requested. I have modeled my article exactly like the flower show articles you already published. There is no different in how I talk about the event that how those other articles do. Also, if talking about an event is promoting it, is having an article about peanut butter promoting the purchase of peanut butter? No, because the people have to search Wikipedia to find out about the topic in the first place, so they are interested and deserve to be able to find out.

Accept reason:

I now am given to understand that this has been discussed, and your name change been granted in full knowledge of the fact that you had previously used the account Greenarama Home Show. This was not clear from looking at the history of that account, which is indefinitely blocked, which has never requested a name change, and which is not mentioned on this talk page. It was not at all clear to me that this account (previously called "Greenarama") was not to be regarded as evading the block of that account. Apologies for the trouble this has caused you. Yes, your article will need to be revised and reposted. It was deleted as purely promotional material, so please do not re-add it without correcting that problem. Continued recreation of the same article with the same problem will likely lead to that article being locked. If you'd like, we can create a draft copy in your userspace for you to work on. Kuru (talk) 14:01, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Should you be considering creating it at all? You evidently have a conflict of interest in the subject. JamesBWatson (talk) 15:15, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Use the WP:WIZARD for creating a new article. Maybe some reviewer can help you getting the article acceptable for Wikipedia! mabdul 15:18, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Looking through the history some more, I can see the draft method was tried before and did not work. Mr. Watson's suggestion is sound; perhaps there is another topic you're interested in contributing to? Kuru (talk) 15:58, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
