Welcome![edit]

I hope you get this message! I'll crosspost this to Storm2k. I am User:Hurricanehink, a Wikipedian of 15 years. If you're unsure about what to do, click the edit window, and experiment with editing. Be careful if you're on a live page though - vandalism could result in your editing privileges being taken away. If you edit everything correctly, and you add content productively, then you could quickly become a valuable asset to this great website that millions of people use every year (not sure how many).

I am currently editing List of Category 3 Atlantic hurricanes. I went back as far as 2012, for every storm that peaked as a Category 3 hurricane, which should be easy if you use the best track, or go through Wikipedia's hurricane articles since 1851 (that year isn't a typo). Orange and red articles are poor quality, while green and blue are good or featured articles. If your article is good enough, it'll be on the main page of Wikipedia!

Let me know if you have any questions, or at least if you get this message. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 00:17, 2 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Also, Wikipedia is public, so make sure you're careful with what information you reveal. Keep it broad. People on here just want to work with you, the editor, not the person that lives outside of this computer (which we call IRL). ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 00:21, 2 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Good work so far! :) Also, Hurricane Rina was briefly a Category 3 in 2011. I can add that later, but I don't want to disrupt your editing. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 14:30, 2 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, :). Oops, I missed that. I'll try to get it in soon. Thanks for pointing that out NotSparta (talk) 17:38, 2 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No prob! I added Rina and the storms going back to 2005. This might be a long term project, so if you get bored, I won't blame you for stopping your work, but any work you can do is helpful. I'm logging off for now. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 18:06, 2 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If you keep this work up, you could probably get the article on Cat. 3 hurricanes to be a featured list, meaning your work could be featured on the main page of Wikipedia. Keep up the good work! I'll help when I can. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:19, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, I'm hoping to finish by the time hurricane season rolls around. It's pretty cool doing research about this 🌀 NotSparta (talk) 21:21, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Good goal! I'm glad the research isn't too arduous. It's a good way to learn about storm history, and in the end it'll be a useful resource, being able to say "Collectively, Category 3 hurricanes have caused X damage and Y deaths". I'm sure insurance companies and governments would be interested to know that. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:32, 3 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Might fall behind a little due to me not being as available and the possible EPAC disturbance, but I'm still aiming to finish the Cat 3 page by June 🌀 NotSparta (talk) 22:54, 6 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Good goal. I'm busy producing a musical I wrote (which includes a hurricane), but I'll try and edit when I can, focusing on the 1800s for now. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 01:42, 7 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there NotSparta, I finished the article, with your help! List of Category 3 Atlantic hurricanes - it's live now. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 18:09, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for List of Category 3 Atlantic hurricanes[edit]

On 21 December 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article List of Category 3 Atlantic hurricanes, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that 162 Atlantic hurricanes (example pictured) reached a peak intensity of Category 3 on the Saffir–Simpson scale? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/List of Category 3 Atlantic hurricanes. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, List of Category 3 Atlantic hurricanes), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
