A tag has been placed on your user page, User:OperationValor, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be advertising which only promotes or publicises someone or something. Promotional editing of any kind is not permitted, whether it be promotion of a person, company, product, group, service, belief, or anything else. This is a violation of our policies regarding acceptable use of user pages — user pages are intended for active editors of Wikipedia to communicate with one another as part of the process of creating encyclopedic content, and should not be mistaken for free webhosting resources or advertising space. Please read the guidelines on spam, the guidelines on user pages, and, especially, our FAQ for Organizations.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. [edit]
Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. SpencerT•C 09:03, 11 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Requested username:

Request reason:

My gamer/IGN - I'm changing my username so it is not associated to a business/video game I'm not advertising. I will put in to change my username so it doesn't look like a business, I'm an indie dev and don't have any funding, We work full time and hope to go full time on release. I'm not paid to put this page up and I have not paid Wikipedia anything. I am a developer of the game. I am trying to get our games page on Wikipedia using neutral language (as per the guidelines). If the page does not use neutral language and is trying to promote sales, then by all means take it down. Purely existing on Wikipedia is not advertisement so long as it is purely informational with neutral language. I have been editing and preparing a page following Wikipedia formatting (infoboxes, linking, etc.) and guidelines. OperationValor (talk) 20:30, 11 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

I have renamed your account, which resolves that aspect of the block. Since you are going to sell the game, and clearly want a Wikipedia article about it for promotional purposes, that counts as paid editing which must be formally disclosed. Using edit requests and submitting drafts does not remove the conflict of interest; it's a way to work with it. You misunderstand the purpose of Wikipedia; it isn't for "report technical/factual information". Mere existence does not warrant inclusion in Wikipedia; this is an encyclopedia with criteria for inclusion, called notability. Not every video game merits an article, it depends on the coverage in independent reliable sources that choose on their own to write about the game(not based on prompting by or materials from you/the game makers). The best indicator of notability is when an independent editor wholly unconnected with the game takes note of coverage of it in independent sources and chooses to write about it on their own. Since you are only interested in editing about and promoting your game, there are no grounds to remove the block. 331dot (talk) 09:04, 12 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I assume that you do not want "Proposed new username" as part of your username? (the way the software and coding is, if I were to change your username now, your username would be "Proposed new user name "kniL"") You are not paid for your work as a developer of the game? Please be aware Wikipedia is not a place to merely give information, it is for summarizing independent reliable sources. Merely giving information is considered promotional here, you don't have to be soliciting or selling something. Wikipedia has articles, not mere "pages". 331dot (talk) 22:46, 11 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, can you please make my username "kniL". No I'm not currently paid, we're indie. We work full-time jobs outside of game development. Yes, many pages have sources (especially from STEM), but many are just informational with a few citations to third-party blogs, Steam (I have), Kickstarter (I also have - old and finished). Yes, I am trying to write about a game. Just as thousands of other video games exist on wikipedia (and I am following how they wrote their articles so I am in accordance with Wikipedia's guidelines). OperationValor (talk) 00:10, 12 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Be aware that other stuff exists. Not all articles have been necessarily checked or vetted by anyone; it could be that these other articles are also problematic and are not necessarily in compliance with guidelines. If you want to use other articles as a model or guide, use those classified as good articles, which have been vetted.
You say you are not "currently paid". I just want to clear this up now rather than later; do you intend to sell the game when it is finished? That would be considered paid editing even if you are not paid right now. Even if you are never going to see a penny from the game, it is still a conflict of interest.
Do you have any intentions of editing about topics unrelated to your game?
I will try to change your username, be aware that for technical reasons the first letter will appear as capitalized; you can customize your signature so it appears as you wish. 331dot (talk) 00:24, 12 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes we will sell it. You can request editing/peer review though yes? I saw this when I first made an account So that removes conflict of interest. When you go to create a page/article, it explicitly, and I paraphrase, states "neutral" language must be used to remove bias - only report technical/factual information with no emotional language. So I figured after I create a page, I just request someone to review the page and not touch it again. That article you linked has some good info though.
