Signature

Are you substituting a template for your signature? It seems to leave behind quite a bit of logic, which could be cleaned up with more substitution. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 20:33, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Oh yeah, I just copied the dubious template and changed the links. I'll go fix that now. Thanks for telling me, I never look at my signature's code. Oxguy3[dubious ] 15:45, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
Test... Oxguy3[dubious ] 15:47, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
I just did a global replace of all {{# with {{subst:#, and what you now see is a result. Perhaps you can just copy the result, which I have pasted below:
Oxguy3[<i>dubious <span class="metadata"> – discuss</span></i>]

Looks like we hit an edit conflict. Here's the sig I came up with; it's pretty much the same. I'm going to go set it now, thanks for your help. Oxguy3[dubiousdiscuss] 16:02, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
Three tildes now gives me this: Oxguy3[dubiousdiscuss]! Looking my signature code on the rest of this talk page, I'm glad someone hinted me to clean it up. Thanks Plastikspork! Oxguy3[dubiousdiscuss] 16:06, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
Yes, that's much better. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 16:10, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Limozeen.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Limozeen.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Wikipedia:Trading Card Game

Hi! We've devised a new scheme for developing the ruleset for the game, and we'd appreciate it if you'd help us select the best base model for our game, after which we'll nominate and discuss more specific individual rules. If you're no longer interested, remove the userbox from your page and disregard the invitation. Thanks! Bob the Wikipedian (talkcontribs) 23:44, 23 August 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Trading card game

Hello, we're in the process of constructing the ruleset for the trading card game. If you have an idea for a rule or would like to help review rules that have been proposed, please visit Wikipedia:Trading card game/Action plan/Phase 1:Rules/Rules approval. Any rules with no objections may be adopted within a week's time, so be sure and put in your two cents!

If you would like to stop receiving notifications about this WikiProject, please remove the related userbox from your userspace.

Title cards in season episode lists

I'm removing all of the title card images you uploaded from season articles. I'm sorry to negate all of you work, but our requirements on minimal use of non-free content (see WP:NFCC) insists that we do not operate in this way. Further clarification is available at WP:NFLISTS. Also, please be aware that a long time ago we removed per episode non-free content, and the standard since then has been to avoid such usage of non-free content. As a consequence of this action, I'm marking all of the title cards with orfud, subjecting them to deletion. I did not want to bombard you with dozens of these messages. If you wish to appeal this action, you can raise the issue at WP:NFCR. Thanks, --Hammersoft (talk) 14:49, 7 September 2010 (UTC)

 • Re this diff: I removed that image as well, knowing it was free, because the inclusion of it encourages others to add the non-free title cards for the other episodes. I don't care really. Just wanted you to know why it was removed. --Hammersoft (talk) 15:12, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
Okay, thanks for telling me why you had removed all the pics; I probably would've done something stupid if I hadn't known your reasoning. -Oxguy3[dubiousdiscuss] 00:24, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Christmas Who?

I removed the prod tag you placed on Christmas Who? for two reasons:

 1. The article was at AfD in October 2005 and cannot be deleted via prod per WP:CONTESTED.
 2. The proper forum for requesting an article be moved is WP:RM.

Please follow the instructions at WP:RM. If the request is uncontroversial or the consensus is to move, the moving admin will make the appropriate deletions. —KuyaBriBriTalk 17:58, 8 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, I've never had to move an article before. -Oxguy3[dubiousdiscuss] 00:16, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

License tagging for File:Roots and Shoots logo.gif

Thanks for uploading File:Roots and Shoots logo.gif. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 19:06, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

List of suicides

NOTE: The following message was pasted from User:Oxguy the 3rd, Oxguy3's doppleganger:

Hi. Thanks for responding to the List of suicides Talk Page request. Just one thing: When you add material to an article, always remember to include a reliable, verifiable source as an inline citation placed in the added text. (You can learn how to do this here.) This is true of all material added to articles, but is particularly the case with contentious or controversial material, as in the case of that particular article, as indicated in the January-February 2010 discussion we had on that article's Talk Page. Don't worry though, I was working on those additions myself at the same time as you, and I added the citations. If you have any other questions about editing, just let me know by leaving a message for me in a new section at the bottom of my talk page. Thanks.  :-) Nightscream (talk) 15:33, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi. Yeah, I noticed that after I posted that message, and though I noted this when removing the "Welcome" aspect of that message after the fact, I realize now that there were other contextual artifacts in the message specific to that initial misconception on my part that I neglected to remove as well, such as the mention of how to do inline cites and stuff. Yes, I understand you just responding to someone else's request, as has been getting a lot of additions and requests since that consensus discussion we had, which many editors may not see on the Talk Page, though I did not intend to express an inappropriate tone, and thought that I was sufficiently polite in my message. Just out of curiosity (given the "Whoa!" banner in your Talk Page's edit mode), which passages did you think expressed an non-civil tone? Thanks. Nightscream (talk) 21:43, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

The "Whoa!" banner is just a joke edit notice I added to my talk page (I happened to add it today because I only today noticed that I could have an edit notice for my talk page). It's not singling you out angrily; if you look at the code of that edit notice, I haven't specifically listed your username, but instead I put "REVISIONUSER", which shows the name of whoever is currently editing the page. Sorry if that confused/tricked you; your message was perfectly friendly. I'll have to change that notice so that it's obvious that it's a joke. Thanks, Oxguy3 tc 23:54, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
There, I changed my edit notice. Hopefully this new one won't get taken seriously by anyone. Oxguy3 tc 00:17, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

Ornithology-by-year articles

Hey there, Jowaninpensans (talk) has created a number of similar ornithology-by-year stubs, but are now working together on merging all the data into one (or possibly more) timeline-type articles. Work-in-progress (saving data) is currently here. I'm proposing copying your data from this stub (and keeping a note that it was yours!) into this work-in-progress, and proposing deletion of 1908 in birding and ornithology, and doing similar with all the others.

Any extra helpers on collecting all the data into one place, for eventual production of a much better-looking article, would be most welcome :o) Pesky (talkstalk!) 13:27, 17 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi again; I've collected / collated all the relevant data over at User:Jowaninpensans/SandboxBirds now; if you could go over there, copy out the bits that are yours (you can see them easily as they all have your credit against them), and re-paste them in (without the credit) in the same place, then they'll all become correctly attributable to you again in the page history :D That way, once Jowaninpensans has done the same with his own bits, we'll have an entire article covering 1900-1995 with all the correct attributions for editors already done and dusted, and it will then be ready for moving into mainspace as a brand-new article. Pesky (talkstalk!) 15:08, 17 September 2011 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of 1908 in birding and ornithology

The article 1908 in birding and ornithology has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

User:Jowaninpensans and I will be working together on merging all these ornithology-by-year articles into something much better. I've kept the original editor's details with the merged data and dropped a note to that effect on their talk page - so this will hopefully be an uncontested PROD :D Pesky (talkstalk!) 13:36, 17 September 2011 (UTC)

Cincinnati riot articles

I have undone as far as possible the moves you made without discussion on this series, for two reasons. First, sources such as history books commonly describe them as the "Cincinnati riots of 18xx" rather than the "18xx Cincinnati riots". Second, anyone looking for an article on the topic is likely to be interested first in Cincinnati, second in 1884, rather than the other way around. Common usage and reader convenience are fundamental considerations. Aymatth2 (talk) 01:15, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

While history books mentioning these riots might not refer to these events as "[year] Cincinnati riots", it is a commonly used Wikipedia title format for events that don't have a common name. If the hypothetical person were at all familiar with Wikipedia, they would probably assume "[year] Cincinnati riots". Anyway, the reason I wanted to those names was so that they would all in the same format (they didn't even all have the same case for the 'r' in "riot(s)"). Looking through the the names of other riot articles, it seems that "[year] [place] riot(s)" is the most commonly used format for riots that occurred in cities/towns/other local settings. Redirects can guide people who try the "Cincinnati riots of xxxx" titles, so standardization is more important. I'm going to revert to the "xxxx Cincinnati riots" titles. -Oxguy3 tc 01:52, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
A bulk change of this nature should be first discussed on the talk page. A number of these articles got fairly close scrutiny in the DyK process, listed under the former names. I ask that you at minimum raise the question for discussion on some forum rather than launching an edit war. Aymatth2 (talk) 02:55, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
Sorry about that, I haven't edited much in a while and forgot the rules. I was more worried about you not seeing my reply here than about starting an edit war. Alright, so here's my preposition for a compromise: how about we change the names to all be "Cincinnati riots of XXXX"? (with the exception of the 1853 article, which should be "Cincinnati riot of 1853") I am more concerned with the inconsistencies in capitalization than with the entire format of the title. One question with this compromise, though (assuming you agree with it): should the 2001 article be changed to this format? (it was already titled "2001 Cincinnati riots" before I started renaming articles) -Oxguy3 tc 03:05, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
I am fine with that. I agree that the capitalization should be (and was not) consistent, and lower-case is correct. Probably the 2001 one should also be changed. Not so much for consistency, which to me is not really all that important, as because the thought sequence for a reader is mostly likely "Cincinnati ... riot ... around 2000". If you type that in the search box it suggests the article. But if you type in "2000 Cincinnati" you don't get much help. Aymatth2 (talk) 03:15, 17 November 2011 (UTC)
