Speakers of [FL-X]

[edit]

Greetings, Paul! I appreciate your input on my Language ref desk query. I've added a response there, as there may be further discussion. And hey, a personal welcome to Wikipedia editing! -- Cheers, Deborahjay (talk) 10:42, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Deborahjay. Thanks for the feedback and the welcome. Paul Davidson (talk) 11:21, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Paul!

[edit]

Your userpage says you speak 上級の日本語. Where did you study, if you don't mind me asking? Also, I lived in Aichi for ten years. Which part are you in? I was in Nagoya (Moriyama-ku) and Ichinomiya. Reply on my talk page, if you will.ChokinBako (talk) 00:22, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good Luck!

[edit]

Well, thanks for the reply. I wish you all the best in your studies, mate. I saw in an earlier post you made a few weeks/months back that you were looking to work as a pro translator. I have a few contacts in Nagoya if you want to give them a go. For a start, try W5 Staff Services where I worked, near the 名古屋国際センター. Ask for 岩井さん. You will be asked to go for a short interview, but that is just to ascertain your actual ability. Also, if you feel up to it, try applying to the Police International Investigations Unit (where I also worked) for interpreting between the Police and foreign prisoners. This place is in 丸ノ内. I've got more if you are interested in making it a full time job.ChokinBako (talk) 11:01, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

English-language term for SS person-unit

[edit]

Dear Paul, thanks for your input on my current Language RD query. Please understand that I grant all due respect to our fellow Wikipedia editors, and I don't correct others' unless I'm quite sure what I'd rewrite is closer to the mark. This query stems from my work and I must be entirely rigorous. The missing term has has surfaced repeatedly over the years, and I'm pursuing it now because I'm dealing with a lengthy series of SS photo captions for the first time since discovering the Language Ref Desk, where I contribute pretty often on both sides of the footlights. I don't mean to sound disparaging (either of your suggestions, which I value, or of other editors' writing), but I must admit to being "critical" in the responsible sense of the word! -- Cheers, Deborahjay (talk) 13:12, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 21:17, 14 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
