60MG Russian version

Hi, I see you are the editor who originally added the info about the unauthorized Russian translation of My 60 Memorable Games. Where did you get the name Zaitsev from? Because from an examination of an online version, the afterword was written by Suetin. Bruce Leverett was asking about it on the article talk page. MaxBrowne (talk) 22:18, 23 March 2017 (UTC)

I think it was The Unknown Fischer, ironically the same source for the "NYT best selling" Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess that we discussed the other day. I looked it up and oddly it mentions analysis by Zaitsev and then on the very next page quotes a contemporaneous source, Chess Magazine from April 1973 that says it was Suetin! Maybe there was more than one version of the Russian book? I'm sure I've seen Zaitsev mentioned in some of my other Fischer books but I don't have access to them right now. When i was in Japan I heard about it from the TV program.It said Japanese goverments(Edo bakuhu)instigated sumo wrestlers to rap--e English and American's wife in Kanagawa in 1864.You can serch it in Japanese yahoo site. Notable former members of sumo stables

Hi! In some stables, notable former members are not included in said section if they appears in the Owners section (exemple: Kokonoe stable). Is that normal? I think it is misleading. An owner is not necessary a former member of the same stable, right? Sumo ch (talk) 12:06, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

@Sumo Ch: The former members section is somewhat arbitrary; with a very successful heya like Kokonoe it's not always possible to list every former makuuchi so we usually just pick the most notable ones. It may be in this particular case that Kitanofuji and Chiyonofuji were excluded from that section to avoid repetition but I don't have a problem with you putting them in. You are correct that the owner of a stable may not have necessarily fought in that stable - sometimes an affiliate or parent stable instead.--Pawnkingthree (talk) 13:24, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

Thank you for your answer! In this case, I was interested when I read that "it is the most successful stable in terms of total yūshō won by its wrestlers". I quickly jumped to the "notable active wrestlers" and "Notable former wrestlers" sections and was surprised, because there are not multiple yūshō winners among them. And finally I remembered that it was Kitanofujo and Chiyonofuji's stable! It's written in the History section, but I think it's worth a mention in "Notable former wrestlers" also, for people who just read this section. Sumo ch (talk) 15:18, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

Good Article status

Regarding this comment: I think the crux of the matter is that the editor said it would feel like "hat-collecting to me", and not how it would be perceived by others. I sympathize, because I too don't have much interest in going through the Good Article process. I like making articles better, but don't personally care if it has a badge on it. I absolutely have no criticisms of anyone who is interested in going through the process; it's just not something that motivates me. isaacl (talk) 23:44, 14 February 2018 (UTC)

@Isaacl: I understand your point of view, but I just wanted to emphasize that “hat collecting” is normally only applied to work in “adminny” areas and is rarely applied to content work. For me it’s not so much the gaining of the badge but the chance to collaborate with a reviewer in a process that is much less stressful than an FAC (no way I would ever enter into that lion’s den) and it’s a great way to improve your writing and sourcing. I wouldn’t consider myself a great writer but I have a couple of GAs under my belt and I think it would benefit every editor to have a go at one in their area of interest.--Pawnkingthree (talk) 02:07, 15 February 2018 (UTC)

Hmmm...Enho and how!, eh? What's the criteria? He rose pretty quickly right? That a record? I mean he is already going to be in makushita again right? Daiamami is certainly more qualified, if not as fun, to make. I am not sure if you can say he's garnered that much attention. From rabid sumo fans here and abroad sure, but the average person has no clue who he is. To amuse myself I like to quiz the average Japanese person with dead easy questions like *how many yokozuna are there?* which can cause some consternation; followed by the much more difficult *name them*(Goeido is often a popular choice, most can get Hakuho). On yoshibayama

hey pawnkingthree, i'm pretty sure i'm doing this horribly wrong, but i don't know. Anyways, the source that Yoshibayama's career record came from says Hokutozan, and there is evidence that the man who created the source for the "Hokutoyama" shikona frequently makes mistakes reading kanji.
