60MG Russian version

Hi, I see you are the editor who originally added the info about the unauthorized Russian translation of My 60 Memorable Games. Where did you get the name Zaitsev from? Because from an examination of an online version, the afterword was written by Suetin. Bruce Leverett was asking about it on the article talk page. MaxBrowne (talk) 22:18, 23 March 2017 (UTC)

I think it was The Unknown Fischer, ironically the same source for the "NYT best selling" Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess that we discussed the other day. I looked it up and oddly it mentions analysis by Zaitsev and then on the very next page quotes a contemporaneous source, Chess Magazine from April 1973 that says it was Suetin! Maybe there was more than one version of the Russian book? I'm sure I've seen Zaitsev mentioned in some of my other Fischer books but I don't have access to them right now. Anyway, I see you've gone ahead and changed it which is fine with me.--Pawnkingthree (talk) 00:06, 24 March 2017 (UTC)

Rollback granted

Hi Pawnkingthree. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! – Juliancolton | Talk 21:05, 13 April 2017 (UTC)

sumo

Have you ever heard about English woman being rap--ed by sumo wrestlers in Kanagawa? When i was in Japan I heard about it from the TV program. It said Japanese goverments(Edo bakuhu)instigated sumo wrestlers to rap--e English and American's wife in Kanagawa in 1864.You can serch it in Japanese yahoo site. I hope this helps you.121.126.185.135 (talk) 07:18, 12 September 2017 (UTC)

No never heard that story. It sounds highly controversial and couldn't be something we could use on Wikipedia unless it was extremely well sourced. But thanks anyway. Pawnkingthree (talk) 23:49, 12 September 2017 (UTC)

DYK for Ōrora Satoshi

On 22 September 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Ōrora Satoshi, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Ōrora Satoshi is the heaviest ever wrestler in professional sumo? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Ōrora Satoshi. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Ōrora Satoshi), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

sumo

Thank you for quality articles on sumo wrestlers, beginning with Asahifuji Seiya more than ten years ago, and probably not ending with Ōrora Satoshi, for historic portraits, for support of admin candidates and open talk, - you are an awesome Wikipedian!

--Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:29, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

Thank you very much for the recognition Gerda Arendt. It's nice to be noticed, especially when one tends to work in a niche part of the project :)--Pawnkingthree (talk) 13:41, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
DYK and AN are among the most open spaces to meet someone, and I saw you on both ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:50, 4 October 2017 (UTC)
Yes I must do some more DYKs - I did a couple years ago and then none at all until Orora just recently.--Pawnkingthree (talk) 13:53, 4 October 2017 (UTC)

This makes me feel even more niche. heh. FourTildes (talk) 09:10, 30 April 2018 (UTC)

Craig Johnston

Though he is Australian, but born in South Africa, he played for the England U21 team and therefore on Wikipedia he requires an English flag, which is consistent with the ten other pages, of games he played in, that are on Wikipedia.Statto74 (talk) 10:20, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

@Statto74: I don't agree with that reasoning - I am replying however on the article's talk page, which is a better place to have this discussion as other editors can contribute.--Pawnkingthree (talk) 13:09, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

Notable former members of sumo stables

Hi! In some stables, notable former members are not included in said section if they appears in the Owners section (exemple: Kokonoe stable). Is that normal? I think it is misleading. An owner is not necessary a former member of the same stable, right? Sumo ch (talk) 12:06, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

@Sumo Ch: The former members section is somewhat arbitrary; with a very successful heya like Kokonoe it's not always possible to list every former makuuchi so we usually just pick the most notable ones. It may be in this particular case that Kitanofuji and Chiyonofuji were excluded from that section to avoid repetition but I don't have a problem with you putting them in. You are correct that the owner of a stable may not have necessarily fought in that stable - sometimes an affiliate or parent stable instead.--Pawnkingthree (talk) 13:24, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
sorry, ping messed up - @Sumo ch:.--Pawnkingthree (talk) 13:25, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
Thank you for your answer! In this case, I was interested when I read that "it is the most successful stable in terms of total yūshō won by its wrestlers". I quickly jumped to the "notable active wrestlers" and "Notable former wrestlers" sections and was surprised, because there are not multiple yūshō winners among them. And finally I remembered that it was Kitanofujo and Chiyonofuji's stable! It's written in the History section, but I think it's worth a mention in "Notable former wrestlers" also, for people who just read this section. Sumo ch (talk) 15:18, 25 January 2018 (UTC)
@Sumo ch: When you put it like that I agree it is misleading. I will add some more!--Pawnkingthree (talk) 16:19, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

Good Article status

Regarding this comment: I think the crux of the matter is that the editor said it would feel like "hat-collecting to me", and not how it would be perceived by others. I sympathize, because I too don't have much interest in going through the Good Article process. I like making articles better, but don't personally care if it has a badge on it. I absolutely have no criticisms of anyone who is interested in going through the process; it's just not something that motivates me. isaacl (talk) 23:44, 14 February 2018 (UTC)

@Isaacl: I understand your point of view, but I just wanted to emphasize that “hat collecting” is normally only applied to work in “adminny” areas and is rarely applied to content work. For me it’s not so much the gaining of the badge but the chance to collaborate with a reviewer in a process that is much less stressful than an FAC (no way I would ever enter into that lion’s den) and it’s a great way to improve your writing and sourcing. I wouldn’t consider myself a great writer but I have a couple of GAs under my belt and I think it would benefit every editor to have a go at one in their area of interest.--Pawnkingthree (talk) 02:07, 15 February 2018 (UTC)
Yes, I understand that for others, the process is rewarding, and that's great! "Hat collecting" generally refers to any type of collecting of prizes; it can be a good thing if it drives editors to improve Wikipedia in line with its mission. isaacl (talk) 02:24, 15 February 2018 (UTC)
@Isaacl: I stand corrected on the definition. Thanks for reaching out. --Pawnkingthree (talk) 13:21, 15 February 2018 (UTC)

Any hoo

Hmmm...Enho and how!, eh? What's the criteria? He rose pretty quickly right? That a record? I mean he is already going to be in makushita again right? Daiamami is certainly more qualified, if not as fun, to make. I am not sure if you can say he's garnered that much attention. From rabid sumo fans here and abroad sure, but the average person has no clue who he is. To amuse myself I like to quiz the average Japanese person with dead easy questions like *how many yokozuna are there?* which can cause some consternation; followed by the much more difficult *name them*(Goeido is often a popular choice, most can get Hakuho). World Beatles Day under UNESCO

Hello! I want to ask your help. Please, put the important information into article The Beatles (in some relevant section). I can not do it personally, because I am - simple IP (I see "view source"). If you wish, you can make the text better. Thank you! I am waiting. This information:

The World Beatles Day is celebrated on January 16. This holiday was approved by UNESCO in 2001. The list of UNESCO does not contain such date, because the members of The Beatles are alive. The event is not very known in a result.[1][2][3][4] - 2.94.186.117 (talk) 15:57, 6 April 2018 (UTC).

References

This would be better placed on the article talk page. I will add it there. I'm not sure it's that notable myself, and I would like to see the opinion of other editors first before putting it in the article.--Pawnkingthree (talk) 15:59, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

On yoshibayama

hey pawnkingthree, i'm pretty sure i'm doing this horribly wrong, but i don't know. Anyways, the source that Yoshibayama's career record came from says Hokutozan, and there is evidence that the man who created the source for the "Hokutoyama" shikona frequently makes mistakes reading kanji. I don't really care what it turns out to be, but i don't want any wrong information. 174.98.178.70 (talk) 14:17, 12 May 2018 (UTC)

I was unaware of that when I reverted you, but yes I have heard since that the Sumo Fan Magazine source may not be reliable for shikona, so I’m happy to go with Sumo Reference on this one.Pawnkingthree (talk) 14:22, 12 May 2018 (UTC)
Also, i'm only saying this here because i've already spoken to you, but have you made an article on Hanakaze yet, because if you haven't i'd be happy to try and make one.174.98.178.70 (talk) 14:27, 12 May 2018 (UTC)
I haven’t, no. I’m not sure if he is notable enough for his own article - aside from his age and longevity, there’s not really much to write about. Do you know if he has attracted much attention in Japan? If so then there may be Japanese sources we can use. Pawnkingthree (talk) 14:31, 12 May 2018 (UTC)
I'm looking, is this the kind of stuff people use the sandbox for? 174.98.178.70 (talk) 15:55, 12 May 2018 (UTC)
Yes, although unless you register an account you won’t have your own sandbox, just the general Wikipedia one. You can also use the Articles for creation process.Pawnkingthree (talk) 16:06, 12 May 2018 (UTC)
