May 2014[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. A page you recently created, Bill Reynolds (tennis coach), may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines for new pages, so it will be removed shortly (if it hasn't been already). Please use the sandbox for any tests, and consider using the Article Wizard. For more information about creating articles, you may want to read Your first article. You may also want to read our introduction page to learn more about contributing. ALL the pages on coaches/players you created over the last few weeks have been deleted. I would have assumed you would get the message that they are not notable without anyone giving you a warning for these types of pages. I guess not , so here is one right now. College tennis coaches are not notable except in very rare circumstances. Fyunck(click) (talk) 07:40, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Bill Reynolds (tennis coach) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Fyunck(click) (talk) 07:45, 6 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not remove Articles for deletion notices from articles or remove other people's comments in Articles for deletion pages, as you did with Neale R. Stoner. Doing so won't stop the discussion from taking place. You are, however, welcome to comment about the proposed deletion on the appropriate page. Thank you. Warning icon Please stop your disruptive editing. If you continue to remove Articles for deletion notices or comments from articles and Articles for deletion pages, as you did at Neale R. Stoner, you may be blocked from editing. Fyunck(click) (talk) 02:47, 7 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I just wanted to reach out to you in the hope that you actually read your user talk page(s) and might respond. I know you haven't thus far in your time on Wikipedia, and that you haven't made an attempt to communicate with your fellow editors in any way, even to the extent that you never leave edit summaries when editing articles. But I wanted to make the attempt anyway.

I am concerned with your editing. As I said before, you've made no effort to communicate with other editors. Wikipedia is a collaborative environment, where article development, disputes, and even the rules people abide by are determined by consensus. If you are to remain active on Wikipedia, at some point you will need to communicate with other editors to avoid an escalation of conflicts.

So far your lack of communication hasn't been a serious problem, from what I can tell. The biggest problem, thus far, is your repeated attempts to remove articles for deletion tags from articles. "Articles for deletion" is an area of Wikipedia where people discuss whether or not an article should be deleted. The process is begun by a person following formal steps, and one of those steps is to leave notification on the article. Nobody is allowed to remove that notification until the discussion finishes (which usually lasts seven days, though it can last longer if there is no consensus reached in that time, or can be ended faster in rare cases). When the discussion is finished, if the article is not deleted then the administrator who closes the discussion can remove it, otherwise it must stay. Removing the tag does not stop the discussion, all it does is make it difficult to inform other editors about the discussion. I'll point out that some of the people who read that notice and then visit the discussion may argue to keep the article, so it's counter-productive to remove the tag. Also, you haven't participated at any of the articles for deletion discussions, and you are definitely welcome to do so.

Proposed deletion is a similar process to articles for deletion, except that a proposed deletion tag can be removed, and removing that tag is a way to stop the deletion. It's possible to confuse the two, but know that an articles for deletion tag says explicitly that it cannot be removed, while a proposed deletion tag tells you that you can remove the tag to protest deletion.

You repeatedly removed articles for deletion tags as Aggies14, which led to a short block of that account. You've continued that behavior recently on the Pellaman account. Please do not do that any more.

Also, on that note, you have created two accounts which is against Wikipedia policy. Unless you have a good reason to, you cannot operate more than one account on Wikipedia. When an editor creates other accounts after the first one, those extra accounts are called "sockpuppets", or sometimes "socks" for short. Having a sockpuppet that is used illegitimately is a major violation and can and does lead to being blocked. In your case, I determined that there wasn't a serious problem so far with the way you've used two accounts. You stopped using Aggies14 once you started logging in as Pellaman. Also, you waited until the block on Aggies14 expired before you created the Pellaman account, which means you did not use it to evade the block on Aggies14. So I haven't taken any action against you. But it still was not good for you to create the Pellaman account, because you did not in any way disclose that you've operated both accounts, or given any explanation as to why you did so. And, since the Aggies14 account has been blocked previously and you are continuing the same behavior that led to that block, and editing the same pages before, we cannot accept the new account as a "clean start". Also, it makes it difficult to follow your contributions (including your misbehavior) when they are divided between two different accounts that aren't obviously connected to each other.

So I would like you to decide which account you are going to use. If you only use Pellaman from this point further, that is fine. Just be sure to not ever log into Aggies14 again. If you want to use Aggies14, then let me know and I will block the Pellaman account. But either way you can only use one.

On top of all of this, I want to add a final warning. I'm giving you a chance here because you are new and I believe most of your misbehavior was due to an unfamiliarity with Wikipedia's guidelines and policies. But if you continue the actions that you have been warned about before, or if I see an indication that you are misbehaving willfully, I will indefinitely block both of your accounts so that you cannot edit Wikipedia any longer. And if for some reason I do not, surely another administrator will. I am available if you have any questions, I'm willing to help you if you're having trouble at Wikipedia, but you have to ask me for help first. -- Atama 22:59, 13 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. File permission problem with File:1984 Cal State Fullerton Titans Men's Tennis Team.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:1984 Cal State Fullerton Titans Men's Tennis Team.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
