Matthew Webster[edit]

I am trying to change the redirect to of Matthew Webster to have a page about themselve. There is no mention of Matthew Webster on the Virginia Shooting page and therefore is incorrect information. How do I go about cancelling this?

April 2020[edit]

Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. You appear to be repeatedly reverting or undoing other editors' contributions at Matthew Webster. Although this may seem necessary to protect your preferred version of a page, on Wikipedia this is known as "edit warring" and is usually seen as obstructing the normal editing process, as it often creates animosity between editors. Instead of reverting, please discuss the situation with the editor(s) involved and try to reach a consensus on the talk page.

If editors continue to revert to their preferred version they are likely to lose their editing privileges. This isn't done to punish an editor, but to prevent the disruption caused by edit warring. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount, and violating the three-revert rule is very likely to result in loss of your editing privileges. Thank you. -- LuK3 (Talk) 14:56, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, PhDAuthentification. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Draft:Matthew D. Webster, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Sulfurboy (talk) 17:03, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Sulfurboy, I don’t know that researcher. I have just seen what he is doing online and thought he deserved a Wikipedia page for the research he is doing and about to publish Thanks PhDAuthentification (talk) 17:16, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sockpuppet investigation[edit]

An editor has opened an investigation into sockpuppetry by you. Sockpuppetry is the use of more than one Wikipedia account in a manner that contravenes community policy. The investigation is being held at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/HFEngineer, where the editor who opened the investigation has presented their evidence. Please make sure you make yourself familiar with the guide to responding to investigations, and then feel free to offer your own evidence or to submit comments that you wish to be considered by the Wikipedia administrator who decides the result of the investigation. If you have been using multiple accounts (in a manner contrary to Wikipedia policy), please go to the investigation page and verify that now. Leniency is usually shown to those who promise not to do so again, or who did so unwittingly, but the abuse of multiple accounts is taken very seriously by the Wikipedia community.

Using multiple accounts[edit]

Hi PhDAuthentification. As a follow up to the message above, I just wanted to give you a friendly reminder that the general rule on Wikipedia is one account per editor. If you are also the owner of the account HFEngineer (talk · contribs), we recommend letting us know. Using multiple accounts in and of itself is not against policy—this can happen for a variety of reasons, such as a lost password. However, using multiple accounts to create the impression that they are multiple people is not allowed on Wikipedia. Thanks, Mz7 (talk) 00:26, 21 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
