Re: Arbortext edits
Thanks for the feedback. We didn't create pages for our products for promotional reasons (if we had, we'd say things like "Our product is the best!"). Rather, it's for informational purposes. That particular product isn't a household name, like, say , Coca Cola. People may hear the name of that product and want to learn more, and a natural source of information for many is Google and Wikipedia.
I don't know who created the other entries you cite. I agree that they should be looked at to ensure that they don't sound like promotional materials. But is it entirely against Wikipedia policy to have an entry that reflects a commercial product, for description purposes? If that's the case, there are a hefty number of pages on Wikipedia that would meet this criteria for deletion!
If you (or someone) has the authority to un-delete the page, that would be appreciated. As I mentioned, we'll look into it quickly to make it factual, and even call on our user community to come in and verify/help source the information. Again, we're not using it as a free digital billboard - we're simply noting that people come to Wikipedia for information, and if they search on our product, we'd like to be able to educate them.
Thanks! -Alan / ABelniak / Abelniak (talk) 15:05, 30 September 2011 (UTC)
- Just a quick reply, as I'm about to leave for work! It is indeed not against policy to have entries "that reflects a commercial product, for description purposes" - however, the product needs to meet the notability criteria, backed up with citations from reliable sources which are independent of the subject which give singificant coverage of the product. Can you provide examples of the notability criteria that Arbortext meets, and some suitable sources which indicate this? If you can, then we can proceed from there - a quick search found only press releases or minor mentions - nothing significant in nature or at reliable independent sources. Chowdhury Mahmood Hasan
I found that you deleted the article Chowdhury Mahmood Hasan. He is one of the pioneering pharmaceutical scientists in Bangladesh and was the head of the department at University of Dhaka for 25 years. I want to recreate the article. --Rossi101 (talk) 10:18, 4 October 2011 (UTC)Rossi101
- Thanks for contacting me. The article was deleted as it did not indicate the significance or importance of the subject. It mentioned that he is Editor-in-Chief of the Bangladesh Pharmaceutical Journal, that he was the director of the Drug Administration, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare for the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, that he was the Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy at Dhaka University and that he published papers in pharmacology (although on one paper ("Further Sesquiterpenes from Polygonum Viscosum (Polygonaceae)") was cited in the article, and I could find no other papers mentioned elsewhere online).
- I looked for coverage of him at reliable sources which are independent of the subject, which would show that he meets the criteria for inclusion but could not find anything suitable. Perhaps you could indicate which of the criteria he meets, and provide some independent reliable sources to show this? If you can do that, we can discuss this further - from what I can see, he does not meet the criteria for inclusion. Regards, PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 04:09, 7 October 2011 (UTC)

Lia Marie Johnson
Hey Phantomsteve!
Alright so I saw Lia Marie Johnson's wikipedia got deleted couple times in the past, and the last time it was deleted it was on August 1st. I'm contacting you because you were the last person deleting it. :)
I would love to create a page for her but I don't want the page to be deleted again!
I have her approval to create it, and we can say she's a rising star so her page will be visited regularly (I guess).
So I wanted to know if it would be ok, and if so should I show you the article before I publish it?
Thanks!

- I see that someone has created Lia Marie Johnson, however I don't see that she meets the notability criteria and especially the criteria for entertainers - I can't find significant coverage of her at reliable sources which are independent of the subject. As such, I am going to start an Articles for deletion discussion, which I will notify you about as you obvious have an interest in the subject! PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 22:04, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
I have rewritten and sourced the article you deleted aas a copyright infringement. Lots of reliable sources indicate he played a major and nationally known role in cleaning up a very corrupt little city in the 1950's. Should I restore the deleted article and replace the text, or post it as a new article about the same person? Edison (talk) 23:58, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
- Since you do not seem to be editing at this hour, I'll post it as a new article. Edison (talk) 00:21, 8 October 2011 (UTC)
- Looks better, thanks! PhantomSteve/talk|contribs\ 15:31, 8 October 2011 (UTC)

Closed as Keep? One IP editor that is a spammer COI account and one person misquoting notability guidelines versus the original nomination to delete does not make a Keep decision. At worst it's a no consensus decision. Otherwise you relist. Some admins even go so far as to ignore the person misquoting policy and the spammer and delete it.
AFD has turned into a joke. With so few people participating all it takes is the person who created the original article and one of the anti-deletionists to wander by and every piece of junk sticks around forever. DreamGuy (talk) 18:45, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
- I disagree with your assessment. You don't like the decision? Understandable, as you were the nominator, but I went with what I judged to be the consensus. Please feel free to take this to deletion review - if the community agree with you, the decision can be overturned. As I say, I stand by my judgement of the consensus. -- PhantomSteve.alt/talk\[alternative account of Phantomsteve] 20:23, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi,
I see that my comment was disregarded in the deletion discussion, because I have been a longtime lurker and not contributor to Wikipedia. Although I was not the author of the article, I would like a chance to reedit it, and/or to rewrite it ,also to include better references. For someone like me, who has in the past worked in nightlife and has an interest in it, I find there are a very small number of wikipedia articles about Night Life in any city, the exception being London. This subject, Noel Ashman is known as a New York nightclub expert who is contacted by the media, both press and tv, for comments on all aspects of Nightlife. In the years between 1995 and 2009 he was a frequent subject of articles in the press. Although these events may seem trivial to some, they make up a significant part of the "goings-on " in New York, help attract tourists , feed the local economy, and prove to a a fascination for many readers in the many magazines and newspapers that report on them daily. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Todayilearned (talk • contribs) 20:58, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
- Before we can consider that, could you please give some examples of reliable sources which are independent of the subject which give significant, non-trivial coverage about him? -- PhantomSteve.alt/talk\[alternative account of Phantomsteve] 22:40, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
- Here are some other Sources I have dug up. I am sure they are covered under independent of the subject as national magazine and newspapers.
