BLP PROD

[edit]

Hello, Phil Bridger,

I understand that we have different attitudes towards Proposed deletion but please do not remove a BLP PROD tag without adding a reference to the page or it will just be re-tagged until one has been added. You reminded me of WP:BEFORE, but you could do more than remove a tag, you could also go back into previous versions of an article to find a proper reference yourself.

If there is no reliable source added over the course of a week to support one claim in the article, it will be deleted. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 05:18, 6 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Which of the many articles that you incorrectly BLPPRODded are you taking about? Whichever it was do you sincerely believe that you are acting in the interests of an encyclopedia by such blackmail? It would be absolutely ridiculous for one editor to be able to remove sources and then for another to be able to delete the article on the grounds that it is unsourced. That would leave every single BLP on Wikipedia open to BLPPROD. Phil Bridger (talk) 08:45, 6 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I've found Bonifacio Castillo Cruz, which seems to be what you were talking about (but saying so would have saved me several minutes' detective work). That had a reference right when it was created, so I have simply done what you should have done rather than propose deletion and restored it. Wouldn't it be better if we all, especially administrators, acted in such a way rather than call for deletion of articles in which references have been removed? Don't you see that you are actively helping whoever it was who, whether misguided or a vandal, removed the reference? Phil Bridger (talk) 09:41, 6 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
And now I have seen Mohammad-Reza Gharaei Ashtiani. Please do something constructive with it, as I have to go and look after my grandchildren now. Phil Bridger (talk) 09:45, 6 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I just realised that I worded that badly. I am more than happy to look after my grandchildren voluntarily, so there's no "have to" about it. Phil Bridger (talk) 21:41, 29 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Phil Bridger,

I understand that we have different attitudes towards Proposed deletion but please do not remove a BLP PROD tag without adding a reference to the page or it will just be re-tagged until one has been added. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BigContributor (talkcontribs) 21:46, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

BigContributor, it's not a matter of anyone's attitude, but of policy, which is crystal-clear that a contested WP:PROD (not WP:BLPPROD) tag cannot be reinstated. Take the article to WP:AFD if you think it should be deleted. Phil Bridger (talk) 07:44, 14 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Xuzhou

[edit]

Hello, If there were tens of thousands of kidnapped women sold to one area for forced marriage in just three years, according to official data, and this phenomenon is still ongoing with the latest uncovered crime attracting international attention, why that's not a fact worth mentioned in lead paragraph? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ShieldOfValour (talkcontribs) 14:44, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You need to read WP:DUE and WP:LEAD, the lead is not the right place for this. Canterbury Tail talk 14:46, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The lead paragraph mentions history and culture, human-trafficking is part of that history and culture. This is a significant characteristic of this area. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ShieldOfValour (talkcontribs) 14:49, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If this is true (and I have seen no reason to think that it is not) then it is a major scandal, but not such a defining characteristic of a city of eight and a half million to appear in the first paragraph of the lead section. Phil Bridger (talk) 14:53, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Then you certainly have no knowledge how widespread this is. Whole villages/towns in collusion from top down (governments, police force and hospitals) have a part in this crime. I know it sounds ridiculous but trust me, I wish you read Chinese and hear what others are uncovering on Youtube and Internet. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ShieldOfValour (talkcontribs) 14:55, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Luckily Wikipedia is not written on the basis of what people write on Youtube and the Internet. Phil Bridger (talk) 14:58, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

What's wrong with Youtube from independent reporters who talk to local villagers and risk their freedom to investigate?

You need proof, have a read on the references (enlgish) I provided on that page and tell me it's not the character of that part of China. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ShieldOfValour (talkcontribs) 15:02, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

User indeffed for many reasons. Canterbury Tail talk 15:26, 18 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Elaborate in Pilak

[edit]

Can you please elaborate more on its Egyptian counterpart? I don't see its transliteration to 'pilak' in the article. --Likhasik (talk) 15:28, 23 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Then you can add it to the article with one of the references found by this search. Phil Bridger (talk) 20:59, 24 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I requested for the speedy deletion for the article as it is a copyvio of the book Victor R Savage, Brenda S A Yeoh (2004), Toponymics - A Study of Singapore Street Names, Eastern University Press,  ISBN 981-210-364-3. I have access to the e-copy of the book via the National Library of Singapore. As it is an offline access, I requested the speedy deletion without any URL. Editor Johnj1995 later included the URL in the template. --Justanothersgwikieditor (talk) 08:51, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In that case it seems like a valid copyright violation, so I will not remove the tag if you place it again. Phil Bridger (talk) 08:56, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Phil, I would really appreciate if you would stop spreading lies about me. I haven't called anyone a fascist, I said a ban for me is pure fascism. That's something completely different! Cornelis Dopper (talk) 21:43, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No it isn't. Fuck off. Phil Bridger (talk) 21:47, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hahaha, you had so much to say on my TP about being civil! Cornelis Dopper (talk) 22:10, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree. It's quite different. People can support fascist things without being fascist. Mebigrouxboy (talk) 01:15, 2 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Phil, just so that you are formally informed, that user has opened a thread about this at ANI. Facepalm Facepalm --Tryptofish (talk) 22:27, 28 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Phil. I've begun a deletion sorting page for articles about the Olympics which are nominated at AfD. Hope you find it useful. No Great Shaker (talk) 16:37, 23 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

For my own curiosity, why add a source but not contest the deletion? I'm working through very old Promo tags, so little insight could be helpful.Slywriter (talk) 21:54, 27 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I found a source that confirmed who founded it, but I don't believe that that source is enough to show notability, and I'm not even sure of its reliability and independence. Phil Bridger (talk) 08:08, 28 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think you hit the nail on the head: there is an editor who is here not to build it but to watch it burn. Thanks. Jacona (talk) 21:51, 29 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
