Map of Haikou

Did I get it right? I'd like to add a scale and any other info you suggest. Is the basic size I uploaded okay? Thanks, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:57, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

Eventually I can even do an image map to add links. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 23:59, 20 April 2013 (UTC)

Looks good but you should really use SVG format for maps:) There are things afoot with Wikipedia/OSM integration so I think directly embedded maps may appear at some point in the future. You probably know already but the pull-down tap on the coordinates bar of an article brings up the Wiki Mini Atlas, which is based on OSM data. Another cool thing that I found is that Google maps now has a Wikipedia layer that drops icons on the map where appropriate - it's accessible under the "photo" option on the right side by selecting the pull down tab at the bottom. Dead cool I think. ► Philg88 ◄ talk 00:09, 21 April 2013 (UTC)

States of Western Zhou

Hi there,

I am extremely interested in your map of the States of Western Zhou. Where did you source this information from? I can't seem to find it anywhere. In particular I want to ask, with regards to the state of Yu, do u know the chinese character for it? I am extremely interested in its origins. Thanks so much for taking the time to consider this email. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 110.174.213.99 (talk) 04:51, 11 June 2013 (UTC)

Hi, the info
the map you mention
came from a number of old Chinese sources. As for the character for Yu, as far as I can establish it is 域(国). According to Chinese Wikipedia it was previously known as 罽賓. Best Regards, ► Philg88 ◄ talk 07:40, 12 June 2013 (UTC)

GOCE July 2013 news report

Guild of Copy Editors July 2013 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter
  • Participation: Out of 30 people who have signed up for this drive so far, 18 have participated. If you have signed up for the drive but have not yet participated, it isn't too late. If you haven't signed up for the drive, sign up now!
  • Progress report: Thus far we have reduced the number of May/June 2012 articles to just 124 articles, so we're on the right track. Unfortunately, for the first time in GOCE history, the number of articles in the backlog has actually gone up during this drive. While all participants are currently doing a fine job, we just don't have as many of them as we have had in the past. We have over 500 editors on our mailing list, but only 18 editors who have done a copy edit for the drive. If you're receiving this newsletter, it's because you have an interest in copy editing. Join the drive! Even if you only copy edit one article, it helps. Imagine how much progress we could make if everyone chipped in just one article.

Map request

Hi Philg88, I've noticed several of your outstanding maps of early China and wanted to ask if you would be willing to make another for the Siyi (Four Barbarians). The existing "Tianxia" map is flawed (see Talk:Xirong (people)#Twice-deleted map), but no cartographers were interested in our request to create a new one. Please let me know if you would be able to help. Thanks, Keahapana (talk) 23:58, 20 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi Keahapana. More than happy to help. I will take a look at the discussion on the Talk page and the map request and see what I can come up with. Cheers, ► Philg88 ◄ talk 07:00, 22 August 2013 (UTC)

Hello there. Long time! :) Should it be "South Sea" or something else? Best, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 10:45, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

indeed :) I trust that all is well with you. "South Sea" is the literal translation of 南海 but somehow "Nanhai" has a nice ring to it. I would go with Nanhai for now and wait to see what appears on the street sign - for example Meiyuan Marina is signposted as Meiyard for some reason. Best ► Philg88 ◄ talk 10:55, 25 August 2013 (UTC)
Okay. Good plan. Thanks. And the sign at Mayard International Yacht Club says exactly that, "Mayard". Hmmmm. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 11:17, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

My spelling error Meiyard for Mayard - pinyin is Meiyuan. Dontcha just love rules for the Romanisation of Chinese? :)

Dear oh dear. So, should that article be Meiyuan, as the media calls it, or Mayard, and the sign on the front door says? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 12:06, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

Probably best to stick with Meiyuan - closer to the original Chinese :) ► Philg88 ◄ talk 12:32, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

Fair enough. Many thanks, Anna Frodesiak (talk) 12:50, 25 August 2013 (UTC)

F.C. Steaua Bucuresti

Hello Phil and thank you for your earlier intervention on the Steaua Bucuresti page. I could really use some help there, since I am new to wikipedia and I really don't know how to file 3RR or sockpuppet investigation requests (just read about them a few days ago, but the specific mechanisms are a bit fuzzy to me right now). Thanks a lot.Optimvs (talk) 14:01, 3 September 2013 (UTC)

Hi Optimus, that was a chance intervention and I'm glad that I was able to help. I can see from the page history concerned that this is an ongoing issue with reverts by IPs so I suggest that you request protection for the page as a first step. If that doesn't work then you can take it to the Administrator noticeboard for incidents. Or you could do both at the same time mentioning at ANI that you have requested page protection. Good luck! Best Regards, ► Philg88 ◄ talk 15:29, 3 September 2013 (UTC)
Thanks again Phil, will try to request protection for the page.
