Henry Murray (British Army officer)

Thank you for your edits to Henry Murray (British Army officer) (diff), but there are two problems. The first is that the article is using short inline citations and long citations in a reference section. Please could you reformat you new citation so that it is in the same style as the other two citations? The second and more serious problem is that you have added information to a fully cited paragraph. In doing this it looks as if the new information is supported by the old citation (which it is not) so could you please an additional citation to support your new text. -- PBS (talk) 17:40, 8 September 2015 (UTC)

Revert page move

I can't revert the move of Goud Saraswat Brahmin, which now resides at G.S.B (Gaud Saraswat Brahmin). Please could you do the necessary with the rationale "revert undiscussed controversial page move - please see WP:RM" ? Thanks. - Sitush (talk) 07:31, 13 September 2015 (UTC)

Same for Gaud Saraswat Brahmins of Cochin, although I think that ultimately should be merged anyway. This is the third time that contributor has made these moves. - Sitush (talk) 07:32, 13 September 2015 (UTC)

Thanks. I doubt that two weeks' move protection will make any odds but it is worth a try. Their three past moves have occurred over something like an 18 month period, so a fortnight is nothing. I'll see if I can kick off a discussion for them. - Sitush (talk) 08:17, 13 September 2015 (UTC)

  • 14:10 User:Tridek Sep moves Namur items to the section "Uncontroversial technical requests", disguising the edit with a false allegation "Unexplained content removal" [3]
  • 14:13 contesting of the request is restored [4]
  • 14:19 User:Tridek Sep undoes the former edit [5]
  • 14:23 contesting of the request is restored [6]
  • 14:30 User:Tridek Sep contests 11 minor capitalization fix requests of the user that contested his proposal [7]
  • 14:43 reverted as bad faith edit [8]
  • 14:49 User:Tridek Sep counters the bad faith allegation with "these are geographical names too" [9]

    • 1) You only opposed 14:30 after having seen the proposals several times before. 2) Your reasoning "also involve geographical names" is not a valid reason for contesting. Your requests have not been contested because they "involve geographical names", but because they are controversial. Thousands of articles use the class name in upper case in the English Wikipedia. I probably should have listed Namur as a controversial proposal in the first place, but I did not think this was neccesary because there was never a discussion about this. I'm not sure quite what you expect me to do here but for what it's worth I subscribe to the idea that "Valley" should be capitalised in the affected articles as the names of fixed geographical features are by definition proper nouns. If this requires further discussion then I suggest that it takes place elsewhere, Wikiproject Geography would seem the logical place. If it can't be resolved there through consensus then you will need to seek dispute resolution.  Philg88 ♦talk 17:38, 14 September 2015 (UTC)

Dilshad

Hi. The move log said that you moved Dilshad back to Dilshad Khan, as I had requested at Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests‎‎, but when I looked, the content was still at Dilshad and Dilshad Khan still redirected to Dilshad. Then I tried to do the move myself, even though it didn't work when I tried it this morning (which is why I'd posted the request), and this time it worked. But how is it that the move was recorded in the log when it didn't happen?

Anyway, I've now reverted Dilshad Khan back to its pre-vandalism condition. —Largo Plazo (talk) 20:08, 14 September 2015 (UTC)

(Apparently, special attendants were on hand to remove audience members who had turned into skeletons.) Hello my dear friend. A long time indeed. 双创 is a bit troublesome since there is no equivalent phrase in English. I suppose "Double Bubble" is close in terms of stressing the positive meaning but it doesn't have the nuance of starting something. That was almost a Chinese politicians answer in terms of verbosity. The short answer: it's fine as it is.

Non-controversial moves

Phil, you had done some non-controversial moves requested by 91.9.120.145. That's an IPsock of Tobias Conradi and anything he requests is nothing but controversial! We just spent a lot of time cleaning up after three of his socks who had moved a boat load of articles, categories, and templates last month. He's now using an IP to request such moves at that page. Advice needed

This is something that has been bugging me this week. It all started in ITN and I sort of could not just let it go. You've been around here a lot longer than I have, is this worth pursuing or is this a no-win situation (pardon the pun) and I'm just being anal? Hmm... "Recipient" certainly sounds appropriate but a lot of people will argue that "winner" is just as valid for multifarious reasons. You will never find a definitive answer, but the showstopper will be "It's a prize. People win prizes", which is indisputablely correct as is "People receive prizes" and so on ad nauseum or infinitum or both. Bottom line. If it's really important to you then test the waters at Talk: Nobel Prize (the template doesn't get enough traffic to pique other editors' attention) but be prepared to drop it unless you want to spend an awful lot of time on long sematic, nay pedantic argument — time that might be better spent elsewhere. It's rather frustrating when you have to sit in the library for hours, verifying and translating the German language magazines into English with 100% accuracy in your mind and still after you translate it, you find lots of things which makes no sense. Since I don't trust Google Translate that much, I used my skills (with a combination of Google translate) to do the translating work, but it seems like I have to continue learning German. I would like to introduce this dimension of truth to you, which sadly has been overlooked while writing the article. I don't understand what is the point of giving the statement comparing Maharani LakshmiBai with a woman of lowly background. For your kind information, Let me tell you, people in India worship her as a Goddess, people revere her as a true hero. And the reason is justified, barely the world has seen the likes of fearless Woman warriors like Maharani LakshmiBai.

I would request you to kindly omit the part which includes the statement of Thomas Iowe. It does not relate to the context at hand but it naturally impacts the image of the Great Queen. It is hurtful to the sentiments of People. I humbly hope you can relate it to your erudition. For now I have removed it, kindly let it be, or remove it as you think of it fitting.

I notice you have recently moved some of these to remove the "Sir" at the front; I have moved some of them back. Please read Wikipedia:Naming conventions (royalty and nobility), specifically paragraph 3 of the section on British nobility. Ph has been warned before for edit warring on List of Korean monarchs, and as White whirlwind pointed out earlier, the link Ph used is not a reliable historical source, and contradicts scholarly works such as Prof. Hyung Il Pai's Constructing Korean Origins. It means do not add a nationality like "Indian" or "Pole". Even Jules Verne didn't know (or didn't want his readers to know) where Nemo came from to make him more mysterious.  Philg88 ♦talk 06:59, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

But in the original manuscript, he had him a Pole. In The Mysterious Island, he is an Indian. So, Jules Verne did know. Nemo is a Pole. The Indian disguise was forced by Hetzel who feared to offend the Russian audience, but did not care about his country's old enemy UK. So, your last comment is false. Trouble with a word

I'm working on the Mästermyr chest and there is one of the tools I can not find the exact translation for. It is this kind of woodworking tool. It is sort of a gouge, but much bigger. It can be used for making troughs/bowls or for shaving logs and making them smooth. In Swedish it's called skavjärn, a direct translation would be "scraping iron". Thanks! I think I'll go with the general 'drawknife' since there are two of them, one straight and one curved. Getting the terminology right for these tools is more important than you might think since the chest, including tools, is copied by Viking enthusiasts all over the world. I'll include a note about this in the article.
After an email enquiry to the museum about pictures, I got some very good news. The museum's own photos are still copyrighted, but they have recently released all the original documentation of their objects to Public Domain. That includes the digital copies like this one, and they should be treated as documents from a government agency with this tag. I think that where there is sufficient sourced information on a country's water and sanitation infrastructure then there is no reason why a subsection can't be added to an existing "Economy" section or elsewhere if appropriate. That said, Wikipedia works on consensus and mine is a single opinion. William Fetter from Germany into English

About you removing my last edit...

It was not an experiment, and I found it be constructive. I added that he is Fenno-Swedish (which he is) and linked to the page "Finnish-Americans" because it includes Fenno-Swedish Americans too.

(talk page stalker) Hi IP 213.112.194.130. Actually, in Wikipedia terminology Linus Torvalds is a Swedo-Finnish American. This term is preferred over Fenno-swedes which is a redirect. Swedo-Finnish are not to be confused with Sweden Finns. It is understandable if Philg88 and other non-Swedes and non-Finns does not know about these distinctions. Nevertheless, the first sentence in a Wikipedia article only deals with what citizenship/nationality a person has and not what group of people within that country they belong to. What kind of Finn he is, is addressed in the first part of the Linus Torvalds#Early years section in the article (with a link to Swedish-speaking population of Finland), where it belongs. I know that most Swedo-Finns are very particular about being addressed as such, but in the lead section of a Wikipedia article it only matters what the passport says so it was right to remove your edit. No problem with the request, the problem is that the article is incorrect. Brush pots originated in China, not Korea a lot earlier than the Joseon. I'd recommend you do some significant background reading before continuing.  Philg88 ♦talk 09:07, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

sir the article about Khalistan movement i know you have written article on th bases of Bias-Media which doesn't show one sided. Being a Stranded of particular region , I have read lot of things about this movement . sir it's fine if you want to write , you can write but pls have deep rooted knowledge . now also present time , that is today I don't know you heard but police picked innocent youth and put them under bar with false cases . I know you won't believe in me . sir you are quite far siting and enjoying tea but come here , you will lend too much info , what's going on . can you imagine , Bunch of people register with case in which they are blamed to be anti nation . reason was they come up and raised their voice against cruelty . and strange thing Media showing one side of scene sir I really disappointed about things which were written . sir I respect your site but pls go thru the whole thing

... ahem... hi again. Trust me to step into a mess. When I settled down last night to add to the corf article, I noticed that is was not only about fishing any longer, it was also about mining diff. Two very different uses of the word in the same article. Someone had originally made a page with a dubious spelling and someone else had in fact made a disambiguation page, only without the disambiguation. (In their defense, it put us on the right track since there were heaps of Victorian articles on mining that were linked to the original fishing article.) Looking at the pages that linked to it, it was clear that both uses of the word were equally popular, so I figured that a "real" disamb page was in order. (Sidebar: When used in fishing it is usually spelled "corf", while the mining stuff seems to prefer "corve".) I moved the page to Corf (fishing) to make way for Corf disamb and then split Corf (mining) from the fishy article. I added hat notes to the two articles. So far so good. After that I went about fixing the links to Corf and sorting them to fishing or mining. (Look at my contribs) I also sorted out the links that had been made to Corf or Corve, but in doing so I found another disamb page: CORF. This is where I stopped. Should the two entries at Corf be added to CORF and the first page be removed or made into a redirect or are these two spellings considered different, or...? Other hat notes on all articles?? ...Hm... WP:TWODABS. There isn't really a need for a separate disambiguation page here as there isn't a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. Corf could have been supplemented with Corf (mining) with a hatnote on the former. This is why you've hit an issue with CORF, which is a red herring anyway - readers do not generally type in upper case and the framework doesn't care - a search for "corf" will take you right there. I would suggest that you put the fishing corf back at the base name, keep and expand corf (mining) and ignore CORF. You will need a friendly admin to move corf (fishing) because of the page history. So, can I make a request here to said friendly admin to move corf (fishing) back to corf or should I make a formal request at ‎Uncontroversial technical requests After Screw-ups? Bling-bling map

Would you be interested in helping out with a map of diamond mines in Botswana/South Africa? It would be great to have one for two articles (ITN Candidates → Posted): Karowe AK6 and Lucara Diamond. I found one on this site that I'm almost tempted to nick. A usable verison of that one would be nice. I have only made maps of very local things, so I'm not 100% sure how to make one like this, hence the request. If you don't have the time, just say so and I'll try it myself. Excellent idea, my friend, I'll add the link 'til I've figured out how to make a passable map myself. In all the hustle and bustle of searching news articles for facts and what with the ITN and all, I was stressed and forgot many basic things in the article. In less than 24 hours you closed this? what about my counter-position? I may have made a storm in a glass of water, but I had an intention in this (which was not blocking him, but a warning to the user about their behavior towards others and consider opinions of others), and I was going to clarify in the discussion. Well, it seems that I can directly call someone "mama's boy", "stupid", "immature", etc. in this wikipedia, which it seems to work more like a forum than a community, and is perfectly right and proper to do that. If every one of those were to be investigated at ANI, very little work on building the encyclopedia would be done here. If you are a veteran editor with many editions, and several featured articles; you are a sacred cow, is well trolling other users. If you are a low-level user with few editions, how you dare you waste our time?
Forgetting the sarcastic joke from above, I go to the real point: this user has a long history of misconduct with me and others users not only here but in Commons, and nobody has stopped him. Do you know why ? because he knows it, and he knows very well how to avoid warnings and admonitions against him.
