Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Peter Altenberg, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Womanizer. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Sock puppeting

[edit]

--Pierpao (talk) 15:09, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I'am administor on It wikipedia. I registered a a new bot account user:PAWBot to use in IT Wikiversity. Casually I made it here, and the user was blocked for sockpuppetry. I had declared that was a sock before on this user page but the block is not a problem, it's better indeed. I do not want to use it here.

Then I did not understand what happened. I was not able to use my main account (this) since appeared a message that user:PAWBot (not this user) was blocked. A large message not the pink one standard. Then I was able to use this account again. Then for the second time blocked again with the same message about user:PAWBot. Now I can use after the second block this account. Hope not be blocked again. Did someone (to thank) unblocked this account?

Last, I have another sock m:User:Pierpao (watch). If sockpuppetry its absolutely forbidden it, even declaring it before, please block User:Pierpao (watch) too. I do not want to use it here but I change often projects, it may happens casually. I do not want to give trouble to you. thanks -- Pierpao (talk) 15:27, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Seems like everything is taken care of now? It looks like PAWBot made a non-bot edit: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Puppet_Master:_Axis_Termination&diff=prev&oldid=820166320 -- that doesn't look like an automated edit. Hope that helps. :)

  • A "Sockpuppet" (or for short just "sock") is not just any additional account of a user with another account, it is an additional account which is used for unacceptable purposes. It seems to me that you have caused confusion by referring to your other accounts as "sockpuppets", when as far as I can see they are perfectly legitimate alternative accounts.
  • The reason you could not edit seems to be that your edits from your alternative account triggered an autoblock on this account. Even if you attempt to edit from an blocked account but the block prevents you from doing so it will trigger an autoblock.
  • I have changed the block on PAWBot so that autoblocks are disabled. That should prevent the same problem from occurring again. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 20:39, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Maleficent edit (lose/loose)

[edit]

The correct expression here is "loses his grip", with the meaning "is unable to maintain his grip". The word "loose" refers to the reduced firmness of the grip but would not normally be used in cases like this. Jmar67 (talk) 18:15, 26 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello.

[edit]

It seems you are influenced by the Italian language, because you asked on the reference desk: "it is correct and a good choice in English?", instead of: Is it correct and a good choice in English?". HOTmag (talk) 15:53, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello User:HOTmag, Yes, I am. May I help you? Pierpao (talk) 16:03, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I only wanted to suggest that you correct (if you want) the way you have phrased your question on the reference desk ("Is it" instead of "It is"). However, after you seggested your help (thank you), I recall I asked a question about the Italian language on the reference desk some days ago. I will try to find it and I will report you. Thank you anyway:) HOTmag (talk) 16:58, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Now I have recalled. I wanted to translate the following sentence into Italian:
"The best team, is not the German one, but is us".
Should it be translated: "La squadra migliore, non è quella germanica, ma siamo noi"?
Here is an additional question: Can it also be translated: "La squadra migliore, non è quella germanica, ma è noi"? If it cannot, then can it be translated, without the word "siamo"? i.e. in such way that the word "è" will appear twice, just as the word "is" appears twice in the original English sentence (i.e. without the word "are" = "siamo")? HOTmag (talk) 17:39, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As you can see "is us" is an language exception, since "us" is a plural pronoun. This exception is not allowed in Italian so "is us" must translated into "siamo noi", i.e. "we are". Another way is "è la nostra" that means "is ours", i.e. "is the our team". In your phrase the translation of "German" is not "germanico" but "tedesco", f. "tedesca", pl. "tedeschi", f.pl. "tedesche". "germanico" refers to an ancient german person, a member of "Germani"; ancient peoples are capitalized in Italian. Therefore "La squadra migliore, non è quella tedesca, ma siamo noi" or "La squadra migliore, non è quella tedesca, ma è la nostra". user:HOTmag I hope I was clear. Otherwise write me back. Anyway if you have in future question about Italian o Italy you can ask in English to the it:Wp:Oracolo-- Pierpao (talk) 18:53, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
All is clear now. Thank you. HOTmag (talk) 20:25, 10 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
