Reference errors on 26 April[edit]

Hello, I'm ReferenceBot. I have automatically detected that an edit performed by you may have introduced errors in referencing. It is as follows:

Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, ReferenceBot (talk) 00:30, 27 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The article Jolly stanesby has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, this biography of a living person will be deleted unless it has at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within seven days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. — JJMC89(T·E·C) 18:28, 30 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

SPA/COI[edit]

Hi Pmoore65. By way of introduction I work on conflict of interest (COI) issues in Wikipedia. All your edits to date have been about New Fathers 4 Justice and its members, and are fairly promotional. This makes your account what we call a "single purpose account" (please see WP:SPA) I'm giving you notice of our Conflict of Interest guideline and Terms of Use, and will have some questions for you below.

Information icon Hello, Pmoore65. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you have an external relationship with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies. Note that Wikipedia's terms of use require disclosure of your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you.

Comments/questions[edit]

Wikipedia is a widely used and trusted reference work, and managing conflict of interest is essential for ensuring the integrity of Wikipedia and retaining the public's trust in it.

Briefly, conflict of interest is managed in Wikipedia in two steps: disclosure of the conflict, and a form of peer review.

First things first - disclosure. Would you please disclose if you have some relationship with [[New Fathers 4 Justice? After you respond (and you can just reply below), perhaps we can talk a bit more about COI in Wikipedia. Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 01:06, 9 June 2015 (UTC).[reply]

I have no connection with the group but share some but not alll of their views.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Pmoore65 (talkcontribs) 15:59, 14 June 2015‎ (UTC)[reply]
As of Feb 2015 their spokesman was named Pete Moore. Your username is Pmoore65. Would you please clarify? Thanks - and please note that having a COI would not exclude you from Wikipedia - it just means that you would have to do some things differently. Again - managing COI is about protecting the integrity of WP and the public's trust in it - we all need to work together to manage COI. Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 16:07, 14 June 2015 (UTC).[reply]
[Pmoore65] is my nephew {{Pmoore65|16:18, 14 June 2015‎ (UTC)}}
Note: we use colons (:) to create new lines and to indent, in order to thread" discussions. The wikipedia software converts one colon at the start of a comment into a "return" and indents the comment one tab; it converts two colons into two tabs, three colons makes three, etc. Also, please "sign" your posts by typing exactly four tildas after your comment like this ~~~~ - the wikipedia software converts that into links to userpage and a datestamp. Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 16:25, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for replying. You seem to be saying that at least two people use this account - you and your nephew. Is that what you are saying? Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 16:25, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
No this is my account Peter Gary Moore, his name is Peter Glen Moore. Pmoore65 (talk) 16:34, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Gotcha. The way you wrote that above confused me. OK, so Wikipedia's COI guideline says that editing about you or your family, and things they do, constitutes a conflict of interest. So you have a conflict of interest for all these articles about New Fathers 4 Justice you have worked on.

So.. what does that mean? We manage conflict of interest in two ways - disclosure and a form of peer review.

Disclosure: You should make a disclosure on your Userpage (here: User:Pmoore65 - it is a redlink because it is currently blank) along the following lines: "My family is involved in New Fathers 4 Justice and I have a conflict of interest for content related to that organization."

Peer review: It is OK to create an article through the AfC process when you have a COI, but once the article enters Wikipedia, editors with a COI should stop editing the article directly, but instead should use the "edit request" function on the Talk page, to suggest changes to the article. This way, the edit goes through a form of peer review and can be checked to ensure it is neutral and well-sourced. Will you please agree to that going forward? (there is an easy way to do that, that I can explain once we are on the same page).

Please let me know your thoughts on this. Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 17:07, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, took some lessons on editing Wikipedia and thought I would have a go but still a novice reallyPmoore65 (talk) 18:03, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That is great, I am glad you are exploring. But you have done quite a bit of editing on Fathers 4 Justice and we need to deal with the COI issues. Will you please agree to make the disclosure and make edit requests instead of editing directly? Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 18:04, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed Pmoore65 (talk) 18:07, 14 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
great! Thanks. OK, now for the peer review part of this. Two things. Please do not directly create articles about NF4F or its members going forward, but after you draft them, please put them through the articles for creation process so that they can go through one peer review before they go "live". Once an article where you have a COI is "live", instead of editing the article directly, would you please suggest changes on the Talk page? You can do that easily - and provide notice to the community of your request - by using the "edit request" function as described in the conflict of interest guideline. I made that easy for you by adding a section to the bottom of beige box that is at the top of the Talk page of each article- there is a link at "click here" in that section -- if you click that, the Wikipedia software will automatically format a section in which you can make your request. Thanks. You can reply here if you have any questions or want to discuss anything, or you can ask at the article Talk page. Will you do those two things going forward? Thanks so much.
