How you can help

Hi there, when you make an edit like this, where you rearrange a bunch of names that are divided by slashes, I'm curious if you're aware that maybe all those slashes will be confusing for someone who has no idea what the series is about? Are they different characters? The same character? Did the character get married? Per WP:SLASH we should avoid slashes because they create confusion, as a casual reader will not likely understand what all those names are. Since there are no in-depth character descriptions or any other information, do you suppose that's a problem? I'm genuinely curious what the thought process is, because for months I've been trying to encourage a number of Indian TV articles to achieve even the most rudimentary quality, yet readers seem either unaware that there are any actual standards for building an article (there are, and they can be found at MOS:TV or by looking at quality articles like List of Millennium characters) or that they just don't care. So since you've edited a number of Indian TV articles, I'm interested in your input. Feel free to respond below if you so wish. Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 01:35, 28 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Well, in the case of a woman, I don't think it's too confusing because the men's names are also there. So one will assume that I.N.S.A is the wife of N.S.A but the name I.H.P refers to their maiden name as their father is H.P. To avoid confusion (they are Indian serials after all, so there's a lot of relationship drama), I have stated, where possible, who is whose current spouse, ex spouse, ex lover and so on.
But really, I think that as long as it's the same first name throughout, readers will understand that the name changes are due to marriage. However, if it's a different first name but same surname, they'll assume that there are twins involved so it's a double role. Now, I admit that it'll look confusing if B.A.M is played by the same actress as her sister's character R.S.R; it'll look like they're doppelgangers rather than long lost identical twins. In this case, it would be helpful to put down the maiden names too. So, while its annoying, it would be written as 'actress as B.F.G/B.A.M and R.F.G/R.S.R'. Moving on, if it's a case of two completely different names, with no other names indicated (or different maiden names are provided) it will be understood that it's a case of doppelgangers.
When it's a male actor playing different characters, it'll be a lot easier since there will either be the identical siblings or doppelgangers without the hassle of maiden names.
Anyway, I just think it's clearer to have two or more different characters as 'actor as no.1 AND no.2....' but the same character with several different names using the slashes.
That was long. Coming to the issue of articles on Indian serials being written incorrectly, you're correct. They're usually hastily thrown together without a second thought. The plots are usually messier than anything else with bad S.P.A.G all over the place. The best hope of having proper articles on Indian serials is just having those who know what they're doing making the article on a new drama before an amateur can. Worst case scenario: cleaning up the badly structured articles. That's what I've been trying to do. — Preceding unsigned comment added by QueenKordeilia (talkcontribs)
I appreciate your response, thank you. If you need guidance, I know a great deal about WikiProject Television community standards and can help you with information. Please don't be shy to ask. I don't know the various series, so I'm useless for anything regarding content. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 16:20, 28 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
