Hello

Welcome Rasnaboy! Guess you are the same guy who also posts on SSC Chennai. You might wish to check out the Indian infrastructure related wikiprojects like Indian Highways Project, Indian Railways Project and of course Chennai to see how effectively you can contribute to wikipedia. Feel free to ping me if you require any help. Srikanth (ping me) 16:15, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

Hi! glad to see your contributions towards Chennai, but always keep in mind that addition of bare URLs degrades the quality of Featured articles. You can use the citation template for assistance. --Commander (Ping Back) 10:13, 11 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi, please do not make unnecessary copyedits in the article. try providing a reliable source whenever you add a claim. Also make sure that you place the citations in a proper format. --Commander (Ping Me) 17:16, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

India Zoo articles

I have just created a navbox for "Zoos of India" and have not yet gotten to the deployment stage except in a few articles (I just added it to two articles you edited). When I add this, I am removing any duplicate entries from See also. So far the items you have added to See also today are not part of the "Zoos of India" template, but if you find anything else that should be in all India zoo articles, please let me know and I can add it to the navbox. This will automatically add it to all India zoo articles (once the navbox is fully deployed). Donlammers (talk) 18:46, 4 July 2011 (UTC)

The navbox has been deployed in all the India zoo articles that I know of (I got the list from List of zoos in India. Donlammers (talk) 16:57, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

Madras Crocodile Bank Trust

Thank you for your contributions to zoo articles. Wikipedia content needs to be verifiable, which means that you should indicate where you got any information you add. If you don't know how to create citations (or prefer not to), put the URL where you found the information right after the information in square brackets "[ ]" (or, if its from a book, put the ISBN and page # in parentheses). I am watching all zoo articles and will come through and turn URLs into full citations. The MCBT article is basically a C-class article now except that it has no citations. Donlammers (talk) 18:48, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for the URLs in both the Madras Crocodile Bank Trust article and the Arignar Anna Zoological Park article. You are giving me a run for my money trying to keep up with expanding them. The only thing I have not been able to figure out is why the Flora and fauna of Chennai article says "an aviary for Vedantangal birds (I assume this means "birds from the Vedantangal wildlife Sanctuary" (see Wildlife sanctuaries of India) and another for Point Calimere birds" while only one aviary is listed in the AAZP article. If you know and can clarify, it would be appreciated, and I can rewrite the summary for the "Flora and fauna" article to match whatever is in the AAZP article. Once again, thank you for the good work. Donlammers (talk) 16:55, 16 July 2011 (UTC)

Arignar Anna Zoological Park

On the one hand, it's great to get continued expansion of an article. On the other, you have been copying text wholesale from web sites (or at least from [1]), which constitutes either copyright violation or plagiarism (see WP:COPYVIO. I realize that you are on a roll, but you should stop for now and let me rewrite things before one of the bots slaps a copyvio notice on the article and someone reverts the great information and citations that you have added. I can rewrite the existing material to avoid copyvio, but it will take a bit of time (I probably can't get to it until Wednesday or Thursday) and it helps if I'm not doing things while other major editing is going on. Donlammers (talk) 22:41, 17 July 2011 (UTC)

Thank you so much Donlammers for guiding me right all through. As a novice editor of Wiki, I admit I had overlooked certain rules. Will try to correct them in the future. Please note that I had given the citation for the said website (chennaiepages) and since the source itself was ambiguous about the aviaries, I didn't want to rewrite the content and make it more ambiguous before referring to a second source. Thought I, or someone else from the Wiki community, could find various supporting sources soon in the future. That's why I left it as is. Will help you with the rewriting too. Thanks again. Rasnaboy (talk) 17:23, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

No problem. I agree that it's kind of ambiguous. Depending on how you read it, we could have anywhere from one big aviary that is sectioned off somehow (or perhaps they are referring to the three vertical "levels"?), to four walk-in aviaries (which I doubt is the case). That's one reason I didn't just remove the material and lose the sources and all. I will make some more effort over the next few days to see if I can find clues in other articles. Then I will just take my best stab at it based on the material we have and hope it's either correct, or someone else comes in and corrects it. Donlammers (talk) 21:55, 19 July 2011 (UTC)
I haven't forgotten this. You can actually see the new walk-in aviary on Google earth. However, the pictures for this on Google Earth (the photos are obviously of a big rectangular structure) are at a different location in the zoo (two large oval structures next to each other), which (I think) is where the crocs and alligators are, though I could be mistaken about that. I have found a map of the zoo, but it's a bad photo and is older than the new aviary. Before I quit for now I will try to rewrite what's there to avoid copyright violations, and make notes in the talk section. We may not be able to be 100% sure at this point. From the bird count, it looks like the Bio Centre and the new walk through aviary may be the same, but that's not for sure either. What a mess. You would think the zoo could have better information, but its web site is currently "under construction" (I guess it used to work, because all the articles I have found point to it). I even looked at the French version of the article, and they interpret the two "sanctuaries" to be the actual places, not aviaries at the zoo (but I think that's wrong). Once I've done the basics, I think we can call this a B-class article, but if we wever want to push it to GA, the issues will need to get resolved. Donlammers (talk) 22:26, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
OK, done the best I could. The map gave me the final clues. Keep adding, and I will keep expanding your citations. At some point you may want to take this to GA class. I will not do the nominating (that would give me the primary responsibility to answer to comments), but will help as much as possible in resolving comments if you choose to make the nomination. Before you do this, we should have all citations expanded, make sure that any trace of copyright violations is gone, do a bit better job of making sure photos are with the part of the article they belong to, and remove the gallery (See WP:GALLERY) after using a few more of the available pictures. Don Lammers (talk) 02:42, 23 July 2011 (UTC)
Hi again. Have added few more sources and info and removed the gallery as suggested by placing the images in the right place. Have also removed few copyvio info. Will try to expand the citations once I learn thoroughly how to do it. Will continue adding more, but in the process I fear some unwanted/unreliable sources might have got added too. Need to be wikified. Please do not hesitate to modify/remove such things, if you ever find one. Thanks a million for all the help and guidance.Rasnaboy (talk) 03:30, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

Sorry, I've been kind of busy in real life and barely have had time to keep up with my watchlist items lately. I will try to get back and expand some of the citations next weekend. Don Lammers (talk) 12:13, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

Hi. Have completed expanding all citations in the article. Will soon check once again for consistency. :) Rasnaboy (talk) 12:02, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
Well, I did get to some of them, but you kept well ahead of me. Next step for this article once you've gone through for consistency is Good Article Nomination -- if you want to try taking it there. Once you nominate it, you will get a critique from someone outside the Zoo project (not me), and generally they will give about two weeks from when they start their review for changes to get made. Most GA editors will make some changes themselves, but leave extensive changes to the nominator. I will help as I can, but can't really guarantee my time. Don Lammers (talk) 23:10, 4 December 2011 (UTC)
Sure. :-) Will do some more groundwork before getting there (like in the "Exhibits" portion, especially resolving the "Aviaries" issue). Will let you know when I'm done. By the way, I've created another related page "Chennai Snake Park Trust" some three months back (where Madras Croc Bank was originally started before moving in to the current location) and have added the WikiProject Zoo template. Just thought of letting you know so that you can have a look at it whenever you find time. Thanks again for all the help. Rasnaboy (talk) 04:08, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
Also check out "Andaman and Nicobar Environmental Team". Thanks. Rasnaboy (talk) 08:04, 6 December 2011 (UTC)
I have rated the Snake Park Trust as a C based on the amount of material, but it really needs some photos to get higher on the scale. The other is still a stub -- it needs a couple more citations and just a bit more material for a start, I think. Don Lammers (talk) 13:18, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Hello rasnaboy,

Please check the phrase "Within a couple of years since the ban" in the Marina beach article. "Couple of years" since November 2010 is quite odd there. Should we rephrase it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Challengethelimits (talkcontribs) 17:07, 11 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi ChallengeTheLimits. By couple of years, I guess it is meant from 2009. Although the corporation started imposing the fine from 2010, a portion of the beach was announced plastic-free since 2009. Assuming this, am just leaving this as it was. However, if other sources suggest otherwise, it can be changed. Thanks for noticing this. Rasnaboy (talk) 06:30, 26 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi. In your recent article edits, you've added some links to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. For more information, see the FAQ or drop a line at the DPL WikiProject.

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Before saving your changes to an article, please provide an edit summary, which you forgot to do before saving your recent edit to Chennai International Airport. Doing so helps everyone understand the intention of your edit (and prevents legitimate edits from being mistaken for vandalism). It is also helpful to users reading the edit history of the page. Thank you. Really appreciate your work on this article. But please use edit summaries.  Abhishek  Talk 02:48, 14 January 2012 (UTC)

Thanks Abhishek. Will make it a point to write the edit summary. :) Rasnaboy (talk) 09:20, 14 January 2012 (UTC)

Kosathalaiyar river

Hi Rasnaboy. Kosathalaiyar, I believe does not flow into chennai. It branches out as coovum at somewhere near Arakonam. Should we included it in Chennai template?

Anbu121 (talk me) 06:54, 14 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi Anbu. Kosasthalaiyar river, like Cooum, originates somewhere outside the metro but flows and drains into the sea in the Chennai Metropolitan Area (that is where it forms the Ennore Creek) near the Ennore Port. Although it is not very well known as Cooum or Adyar, it indeed flows into the northern region of the Chennai Metro area. Rasnaboy (talk) 08:13, 14 January 2012 (UTC)

American consulate

Rather than adding American consulate in Administration in Chennai template, Can't we create an article like List of embassies in Chennai and then add the article to Chennai template. I am not sure if American consulate administers anything in Chennai. It just oversees foreign relations. By the way, is Consulate different from embassy? Anbu121 (talk me) 10:13, 15 January 2012 (UTC)

You're right Anbu. It has got nothing to do with local administration, but since it's a political entity, I temporarily added it in the Administration section. We can move it once we create a new section in the template. We need to create other consulates articles (there are some 30+ consulates of various countries in Chennai) and a main article listing all these. By the way, to my understanding, a consulate is a sub-unit of the the embassy, which is usually located in the country's capital; the consul general reports to the main Ambassador at the embassy. Rasnaboy (talk) 10:51, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
I think its OK to create only the most important ones and make a list of the rest in an article. Should we put that under administration or institutions? Anbu121 (talk me) 15:30, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
Done. Have moved it to "Institutions" section. Please check whether this is fine. :) Thanks. Rasnaboy (talk) 15:41, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
Yes. Looks Good Anbu121 (talk me) 15:46, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
Dear Anbu. As you suggested, have created a list of missions in a separate article (List of diplomatic missions in Chennai) linking the main ones. Trust this is fine. Will add references for every entry in the coming days. Thanks. Rasnaboy (talk) 17:45, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

Adyar Poonga

Hi Rasnaboy,

This is the first I am using the User talk. I think, creating a new section is for posting my reply on your talk page. Please guide me through if I went wrong in the way of replying. All those images were taken from the same bridge so, I don't think they could be distributed to different sections of the article. Well, I like to come up with more images of Adyar Poonga but, the thing is that.. locals are not allowed to enter the Poonga. I will surely come up with more images (if I get an opportunity to enter the Poonga) which can help you match them for your article (categorised). Yes.aravind (talk) 07:33, 3 July 2012 (UTC)

Thanks Aravind. Yes. The new section is for posting a reply under a new heading in the talk pages (Though, I'm not an expert at these either).
No problem. Try to get new images whenever possible. Since all those pictures that you took look excellent, I didn't want to waste them just for not having a caption. That's why I asked you as you, being the owner of the pictures, are the one who could best describe them. Anyway, if you could take more pictures, please do and try to be descriptive too, and we could make the articles much better with high-quality, descriptive images. Needless to say, if you could take photos on other places in the city as well, you could help Wikipedia with them. Many articles about Chennai lack good pictures (Vandalur zoo article, for instance; it has many photos on the animals, but not the zoo itself).
Thanks again for all the good work. Rasnaboy (talk) 16:18, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

Dear Aravind. Have done my best to caption the images and arrange them within the article. Please check and let me know whether they have been placed appropriately and with correct descriptions. Many thanks. :) Rasnaboy (talk) 16:44, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Well done Rasnaboy. That's just cool. You really did a good job there. I'm not sure whether that is a locust or not. And.. to be honest, the water quality is decreasing day by day. Apart from that, the drying process is on a rapid progress. "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Adyar_Poonga's_waterbody_as_seen_from_Karpagam_Bridge,_MRC_Nagar6.jpg" - grass has disappeared, There has been some erosion and the water on left has dried up. If this continues, in the next 3 or four months we could see a totally different Poonga. :( — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yes.aravind (talkcontribs) 18:42, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Just read your reply on the top. Well I'll try to upload more pics. Wikipedia has been a great guide for me for a lot of things. I am always ready to help by providing the images I have got with me. For some amazing contributions ... -- Rsrikanth05 (talk) 12:54, 29 July 2012 (UTC)

The article Raheja Towers, Chennai has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable building. Only routine coverage of opening and a database entry. No claim to notability.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hello, Rasnaboy,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Nageshwara Rao Park should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Nageshwara Rao Park .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Chennai Suburban Railway

I am thinking of creating s-line templates for Chennai suburban railway lines similar to the one used in MRTS stations infobox. The names of the lines: Southwest line, South line, Westsouth line, etc - Are these really the official names of the lines? I couldn't find any mention in railways website about this. --Anbu121 (talk me) 16:43, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Great Anbu. Thanks for the initiative. And I couldn't find either. However, these are just categories, I believe. So may not be listed in the railways website. Think we can go ahead with the template after checking with other editors too. Coolguyche17 had created the main articles about these lines, and maybe he can help us with this. Chennai Suburban Railway Stations

I am wondering whether some of the stations would come under WP:COMMON NAME, atleast Royapuram, Tambaram, Perambur and Mambalam. These stations are not exclusively for suburban services, they also serve long distant trains. Whenever you create new articles, please ensure that there is atleast one reference. You have autopatrolled rights, which means that articles that you create will not come under patrolling. -Anbu121 (talk me) 05:52, 2 November 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the message Anbu. Actually, I wanted to check with you about this. I started creating these suburban stations articles further to the individual station articles of Chennai MRTS that we created per User HMan's suggestion. Have completed creating stations on the Western line of Chennai Suburban Railway (atleast till Chennai Metropolitan Area limit). Am now into those on the Northern line. User Challengethelimits is taking care of the Southern line section. Similar to the naming convention of the MRTS stations suffixed with "(Chennai MRTS)", I'm creating the suburban stations with names in the following format: Station name (as in the station's name board) + "(Chennai Suburban Railway)" for all the stations except Chennai Central, Chennai Beach and Chennai Egmore, since these three are terminal stations. However, with what you suggest now, I thing we'll have to revert the names of Royapuram, Tambaram, Perambur and Mambalam too. Will do that. And, will surely find more references for these articles. :) Thanks again. Rasnaboy (talk) 17:31, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
Actually I was referring to these: Thiruninravur, Pattabiram, Pattabiram East, Thirumullaivoyal that doesn't have reference. Actually I was the one who requested auto patrolling for you. --Anbu121 (talk me) 18:12, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
Thanks so much, Anbu. I didn't know that before. :) That makes me even more responsible for all that I'm creating. Will ensure that they're up to the mark. :)
By the way, I couldn't find citations for the said stations. Thirumullaivoyil is a relatively newer station (opened around 1999/2000) but I'm not able to find a citation for the same. Also, is Pattabiram Military Siding station (which I'm yet to create) different from Pattabiram East Depot and Pattabiram West stations? Wasn't sure, so that's the only pending article in that line. Please clarify if possible. Thank you. Rasnaboy (talk) 18:26, 2 November 2012 (UTC)

Hey, be careful and slowdown. It will be best if we create the articles after 3 or 4 exclusive sources becomes available. Else, this problem is going to be there. --Anbu121 (talk me) 06:28, 13 November 2012 (UTC)
Sure. Thanks, Anbu. :) Think, I'm yet to understand the subtlety involved in rewriting. Have to fix things in few more articles too. :) Rasnaboy (talk) 07:12, 17 November 2012 (UTC)
I see that you made a great attempt to remove the copyright infringement on Alandur (Chennai Metro) in this revision. Thanks! However, the content still resembles your primary source. The content needs to be rewritten entirely, with a different structure, in order to mitigate copyright infringement. It'd be awesome if you could make another attempt. Pattabiram West (Chennai Suburban Railway)

Does this railway station really exists? Offical site doesn't mention it and I couldn't find any evidence in satellite imageries that such a station exists. --Anbu121 (talk me) 13:33, 23 November 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for noticing, Anbu. Even I wasn't sure before I checked with Google Maps and other websites. The station does have a code (PRWS) too. So I decided on creating a separate article. Actually, I have another doubt. Is this the same as what they call "Pattabiram Siding" or is that a different one (for which there's no separate article in Wiki yet)? Rasnaboy (talk) 08:13, 24 November 2012 (UTC)
Pattabiram Military siding has a separate code PTMS and the station is not mentioned in the above doc probably because no suburban services stop at the station. I guess, it is being used exclusively for military. Indian railways station code checker is really pathetic. It includes only long distance stations. --Anbu121 (talk me) 09:08, 24 November 2012 (UTC)
If the station has a separate code (PTMS), then we'll have to create a separate article for that too. Moreover, the station is not meant for military exclusively, as far as I know. This is because we have regular trains plying to Pattabiram Military Siding and are used by the locals. Anyway, will double-check and then let you know. Rasnaboy (talk) 17:34, 24 November 2012 (UTC)

Clarification needed for Chennai Central template

The article mentions three facilities namely Train care center, Electric trip shed, Goods shed. Can you clarify where exactly each of this is. I found out the places from Google maps, but couldn't figure out which one is train care center, trip shed, goods shed: 13°05′38″N 80°16′13″E / 13.093868°N 80.270362°E / 13.093868; 80.270362, 13°05′55″N 80°16′22″E / 13.098602°N 80.272669°E / 13.098602; 80.272669, 13°05′42″N 80°16′25″E / 13.09507°N 80.273548°E / 13.09507; 80.273548, 13°07′09″N 80°16′08″E / 13.119281°N 80.268989°E / 13.119281; 80.268989. Is train care center same as railway yard? Are there something else that needs to be included in the template other than these three? --Anbu121 (talk me) 16:05, 24 November 2012 (UTC)

Anbu. 13°05′38″N 80°16′13″E / 13.093868°N 80.270362°E / 13.093868; 80.270362 is the Salt Cotaurs goods shed (located on the western side of the Central–Basin Bridge main tracks); 13°05′55″N 80°16′22″E / 13.098602°N 80.272669°E / 13.098602; 80.272669 is the trip shed and 13°05′42″N 80°16′25″E / 13.09507°N 80.273548°E / 13.09507; 80.273548 is the train care centre (both located on the eastern side of the Central-Basin Bridge main tracks); The Electric loco trip shed is comparatively small section (just a couple of roofed sheds) located immediately next to the track. The train care centre, on the other hand, is large and encircles the trip shed (you can see it in the Google map where they appear as some over 20 parallel tracks). These are the three things that come to my mind immediately. Maybe there are few other entities, though not sure. Let's check with others too. Rasnaboy (talk) 17:29, 24 November 2012 (UTC)

Chennai

Hi Rasnaboy, Why don’t we carry Chennai article to good article status? I believe it requires only minor alterations. I fear we are waiting for consummation that would never come.--Challengethelimits (talk) 04:47, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

I'm all for it! --Rsrikanth05 (talk) 14:12, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
Thanks Challengethelimits and Srikanth, for initiating. :) Am all for it, too. Had been kinda busy in real life for quite some time now, and I fear this dormant phase would continue for a few more months. Sorry about that. However, despite being relatively dormant, I've been collecting details related to Chennai in all possible ways. Will be glad to start our collaboration again. :)
And, Anbu is not to be seen around for about a year now. Missing him a lot. :( Rasnaboy (talk) 17:06, 18 January 2014 (UTC)
Thanks guys... we will dust it up and present. Maybe we can add a few details here and there. The major worry, though, is the lack of updated info on expanded city limits. We'll do our best.--Challengethelimits (talk) 03:01, 19 January 2014 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hello Rasnaboy, Thanks for all of your contributions to Wikipedia, especially articles about Chennai, the 700+ articles you created and your 11,000+ edits. Your hard work helps to make Wikipedia a veritable treasure trove. By User: 2know4power (talk) 09:00, 30 January 2017 (UTC)
Thank you, 2know4power. Although the count shows 700 articles, only some 200 of them are real articles (the rest being redirect pages and others). Will continue to do my best. Thanks for the kindness. Good to know you. Rasnaboy (talk) 13:48, 30 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. Veganism in Tirukkural

Scholars have variously translated the chapter "Pulaal marutthal" (renunciation of meat-eating) as shunning meat, no-meat diet, etc. Does this refer to vegetarianism or veganism? Which one should be retained in the articles? Bhagya sri113 (talk) 10:35, 16 December 2017 (UTC)

Hi Rasnaboy
Sorry I had to ask for deletion of your photo's of book covers at Commons - but you can't claim the design of a book cover is your "own work", when all you did was take a photo of it.
The solution to your problem is to upload them to en.wikipedia, with a claim of "fair-use". Unfortunately, this is less easy, as you have to use a "fair-use rationale", Please see Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria and have a look at some other books File:Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone Book Cover.jpg, File:ChildhoodsEnd(1stEd).jpg - or pick your favourite - provided it is on en.wikipedia, not commons.

Please note that fair use images can only be uploaded if there is already an article - not a draft - which they must be used in; so your photo of Inbam (Kural book), cannot be uploaded until after that article has been accepted.
Hope that helps - Arjayay (talk) 15:58, 1 March 2018 (UTC)

Doesn't it look like some previous version of Wiki page on Chennai? :) Not sure though. Maybe yes, or maybe no. If it's taken from Wiki, then it'll be an invalid source (WP:CIRCULAR) since it's just a mirror page of Wiki. If it's not, then it can be used as a source. We need to verify how far it's authentic. Maybe we can use it for now (after making sure it's not mirroring previous Wiki page). Rasnaboy (talk) 15:13, 19 March 2018 (UTC)

English name for Thirukural

Hi

The Anglican version u have mentioned is not correct. When u consider the pronunciation, the correct version is Thirukural only since phonetically there is no “ti” in Tamil, its “thi” only. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 171.76.44.220 (talk) 05:24, 10 January 2019 (UTC)

You're right pronunciation-wise. However, anglicising refers to making the word sound very English. A fine example is the English word "Tamil", although the near-exact transliteration would be "Thamizh" pronunciation-wise. The target audience here is English-speakers and other non-Tamil speakers, not Tamil speakers. Rasnaboy (talk) 05:51, 10 January 2019 (UTC)

You've written various articles such as Kulapathi Nayanar, the first line of each being "... poet of the Sangam period to whom verse 48 of the Tiruvalluva Maalai." Which makes no sense. Re Cruelty to animals in the UK

Re https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Cruelty_to_animals&oldid=prev&diff=903680747&diffmode=source

This is fair reasoning, but in that case we should also remove part of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cruelty_to_animals#China , specifically:

In September 2009, legislation was drafted to address deliberate cruelty to animals in China. If passed, the legislation would offer some protection to pets, captive wildlife and animals used in laboratories, as well as regulating how farm animals are raised, transported and slaughtered.[137]

The People's Republic of China is currently in the process of making changes to its stray-dog population laws in the capital city, Beijing. Mr. Zheng Gang who is the director of the Internal and Judicial Committee which comes under the Beijing Municipal People's Congress (BMPC), supports the new draft of the Beijing Municipal Regulation on Dogs from the local government. This new law is due to replace the current Beijing Municipal Regulation on Dog Ownership, introduced in 1989. The current regulation talks of "strictly" limiting dog ownership and controlling the number of dogs in the city. The new draft focuses instead on "strict management and combining restrictions with management."[138]

Don't you think?

Radeksimko (talk) 09:55, 27 June 2019 (UTC)

Apologies for the delayed reply. I'm yet to go through the sources of these. Once this legislation is passed, maybe we can rewrite the whole thing in the article. Since Wiki needs third-party sources for every claim, we cannot change the current claims until then. Rasnaboy (talk) 17:07, 24 August 2019 (UTC)

Looks like I wrongly marked it as citation needed. Aram in tamil is not same as Dharma in sanskrit. How do I fix this actual discrepancy — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sureshsambandam (talkcontribs) 16:01, 23 August 2019 (UTC)

Even I thought the same initially. However, only much later did I find that this is only a misconception, chiefly among many of the 20th-century "rationalist" scholars, who claim aram is not equal to dharma, simply as a way to counter the brahminical tradition. Aram is precisely the exact equivalent of the Sanskrit term dharma. In fact, Tamil is the only Indian language that has exclusive equivalent terms for dharma, artha, kama and moksha (respectively, aram, porul, inbam and veedu). However, difference is only between how dharma is perceived in many Sanskrit texts (such as Manusmirthi) and how it is perceived in the Tirukkural (where it is used as aram). In those Sanskrit texts, the term dharma is used ambiguously, whereas in the Tirukkural, the term aram is used with extreme precision in its application (consistently and without ambiguity). This is what makes the above-mentioned scholars perceive the terms as non-equivalent. This is explained under the section "Valluvar's position on aṟam or virtue" in the article Aram (Kural book). Hence, in my opinion, a separate citation or explanation is not necessary, which would otherwise be superfluous. Thank you. Rasnaboy (talk) 17:01, 24 August 2019 (UTC)

Kural

Hi, Rasnaboy. I've just expanded/rewritten most of Kural (poetic form). I see that you've done a lot of work on this and related topics, so if you have the time, I'd appreciate you reviewing my work to make sure I haven't done anything terribly stupid. I'm trying to do something a little tricky -- explain Tamil poetics in more familiar Western terms -- but I think I've gotten it about as correct as possible without a really lengthy dissertation! Also, if you speak Tamil and are willing to collaborate a little, there's another step I'd like to take, which I can't do alone since I only know English. Cheers. Phil wink (talk) 05:46, 6 December 2019 (UTC)

Hi Phil Wink. Nice knowing you. Couldn't read fully as I was a little busy at work, but at a glance it looked great. You've added so much there. Will go through fully soon. Thanks for all the effort. Information icon Please do not add commentary, your own point of view, or your own personal analysis to Wikipedia articles, as you did to Thiruvalluvar and other related pages. Doing so violates Wikipedia's neutral point of view policy and breaches the formal tone expected in an encyclopedia. the fact is there are no actual portraits of him, the artistic depictions of Thiruvalluvar, which are widely used have no religious/caste intent, the so called "Ancient portrait of Thiruvalluvar" you say have no source for it being ancient and also its POV push, since the name of the image and text in the image is a name claimed by some caste/religious groups with no basis and and the image itself make it seem like the poet was part of a religion which again has no basis, so stop using it, since its against WP:NPOV Panda619 (talk) 10:16, 12 January 2020 (UTC)

Thank you, Panda619. Since there was an edit war going on on this particular page (and pages) regarding this, I thought this as part of that edit war by some unknown addresses. (You can see that by the reverted edits of mine and other fellow editors by unknown IPs.) Also the image used as replacement (the current one) is simply a line drawing of the contemporary image of Valluvar drawn by Venugopal Sharma. I reverted it to the so-called "ancient portrait of Thiruvalluvar" since this image appears in many pre-20th-century publications (e.g., the frontispiece of Edward Jewitt Robinson's (1873) Tamil Wisdom, New Delhi: Asian Educational Services). In that case, should I add this as a source? Thanks again. Rasnaboy (talk) 17:20, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
Even if there is a source for it being "ancient portrait of Thiruvalluvar", It still is against WP:NPOV, with source I think you can only use that image in particular religious/caste sections where they claim Thiruvalluvar as theirs. example, both people from Hindu caste Valluvar and Buddhism claims that name "Thiruvalluva Nayanar" which is written in that image and also they say he belongs to their group, maybe this image can be used in those specific sections/pages with caption saying portrait of Thiruvalluva Nayanar of this group or that, but I would rather not since all of these are just artistic depictions and it becomes a issue when someone just paints him with religious intent which has no basis, Thank you. Michael tried to stop my UK tour by going to newspapers in the UK. If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". removed additions

Hi!

A few weeks ago I edited this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_literary_works_by_number_of_translations

I added a book My Hero is You, written by Helen Patuck and developed by the Inter-Agency Standing Committee. This book is translated into more than 100 languages. [1]

Why has it been removed from the list?

Thanks so much for your help! Best, Maya Bachet MayaBachet (talk) 10:37, 3 July 2020 (UTC)

Hello MayaBachet. The article pertains to literary works as opposed to books of other genres. Am not sure, but I think the additions do not fit the category "literary work". Maybe that's why. You can raise this concern in the article's talk page, and with a discussion that follows, consensus can be reached and amendments made. Rasnaboy (talk) 08:07, 21 July 2020 (UTC)

Edit warring in Discrimination template

Stop icon

Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Chrisahn (talk) 10:22, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

Dear User:Chrisahn. I request you to please discuss this in the talk page and proceed with the consensus, rather than warring with warning. Thank you. Rasnaboy (talk) 10:25, 9 October 2020 (UTC)
There has never been consensus that the animal-related links should be included in the template, and it's clear that no relevant definition of discrimination includes animals. See WP:BURDEN: "The burden to demonstrate verifiability lies with the editor who adds or restores material ... Any material lacking a reliable source directly supporting it may be removed and should not be restored without an inline citation to a reliable source."
I sympathize to some extent with the animal rights movement, but my opinions or beliefs are as irrelevant as yours or anyone else's when we're editing Wikipedia. We must not let our opinions guide our editing, and we must not abuse Wikipedia trying to push our agenda, whatever it may be. See WP:NPOV, and in this case in particular WP:UNDUE.
If you believe that the concept of discrimination should also apply to animals, that's fine. But that belief is shared by very few people. Wikipedia does not include what we believe to be true or want to be true, but only what's verifiable. See WP:TRUTH and WP:Truth. -- Chrisahn (talk) 10:40, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

Regarding media contributions

I have been adding maps made by me for some articles. Kaveri Crater is one example. Am I doing it right? Am I in violation of any policies? Ghu689 (talk) 20:08, 14 December 2020 (UTC)

Wiki policies welcome uploading self-created images (see "User-Created Images" and "Diagrams and Other Images" sections of the Image Use Policy page). So no issues. We typically use the best quality images available in order to maintain the quality of articles. Only when there is a necessity for a custom-made image do we create one (as in your case where such an illustration would help the reader grasp the topic under discussion). However, the facts and data that the image depicts need to be backed up by reliable sources. Rasnaboy (talk) 02:52, 15 December 2020 (UTC)
I have included the sources in the map itself. They are sourced from USGS and Openstreetmap. Ghu689 (talk) 03:45, 15 December 2020 (UTC)

Madras Flying Club edits

Hello and thank u for ur welcome msg and feedback. New to wiki edit n still groping! Regarding History of the Madras Flying Club, would like to point out that my grandfather Capt K.S.Krishnan was the first Indian Chief Flying Instructor of the Madras Flying Club after initially being Asst Flight Instructor when Tyndall Biscoe was CFI. Capt Khan was a good friend & incidentally also my grandfather's student! The powers prevalent then at the MFC chose to remove all trace of my grandads contribution simply because he refused to curry favour. Capt Khan's license number reflecting on the board of the MFC for the longest time, was my grandads!! I intend to correct this huge glitch in the history of the MFC and indeed Indian Aviation by providing the MFC with copies of my granddad's licenses and other documentation as required. And then will hopefully be allowed to rightly edit the history of the Madras Flying Club posted by Wikipedia. Thank youSharmila Vasudevan (talk) 16:02, 28 December 2020 (UTC)

Dear friend. I understand your concern, and am truly sorry about that. That's very sad. History, unfortunately, is fraught with similar injustices. Across the globe, history is notoriously known for such glitches. More often than not, published history is not what it has to be. While it was Radhanath Sikdar whose effort helped measure the height of Mount Everest, the peak was not named for him but Sir George Everest. Nevertheless, Wikipedia, as an encyclopedia, relies solely on reliable sources. Anything to be added to Wikipedia needs reliable published sources, without which claims, despite being true, cannot be added. If we can get a published source for the claim you made, we can very well add it, citing the source. Please see if you could find a reliable source. Besides, if the MFC accepts the claim and adds it in its records and subsequently publish it, that can be considered a reliable source as well. Rasnaboy (talk) 18:05, 28 December 2020 (UTC)

Reverts

Yo. This is the second time you revert my edits wholescale, including simple citations; if you have problems with individual edits, you are welcome to discuss them at the talk page. Please refrain from vandalising Wikipedia by confusing readers with badly quotes and deleting cited statements. If you want to play the admin then actually do the work, and judge individual edits by their merit, respective to the sourcing.

From what few comments you have made I think you are likely confused. Nagel says consciousness (not sentience) can be broken down in qualia, conscious experiences. There is not a single source equating qualia with sentience, which I think you may believe, although without sourcing this is OR. The key citation here is from Damasio, who defines 'sentience' as an aspect of consciousness. Maybe you are an animal rights person? Then this discussion regarding sentience is immaterial. If sentience as dictionary defined is just 'the ability to experience sensations', that animals are sentient is clear, the question is if they are conscious, which is a different word/subject matter.

Hey, before I looked into the subject I also thought 'sentience' meant the same. Apparently not, that word is 'sapience'.

My proposal is to move all talk/references about 'consciousness' over to that article. If references are not about 'sentience', it is misleading to equate the concepts based on your personal feelings about what the word should actually mean.

Regards, Leo 86.83.56.115 (talk) 20:45, 31 January 2021 (UTC)

Dear Leo, Thanks for writing. Without your details save for your IP address, I didn't know how to communicate with you (except in the edit summary where I couldn't explain much). I'm a regular editor with serious intention to improve every article that I edit, not a vandal. I see I was confused with the ambiguity involved in the terms perhaps. Thanks for clarifying. When I reverted your first edit I indeed retained the changes that you made save for the 2012 declaration part. The reason why I reverted the second time was your inclusion of some nonsensical text as "According to Rasnaboy, sentience means..." which is not at all encyclopedic, let alone the fact that it lacked any source. I see that statement was there until your last edit that I reverted for the second time. Since of late there were several unconstructive and truth-suppressing edits in animal rights-related pages, this one particular edit made me think you are one such person (I sincerely apologize for my misunderstanding). After going through the recent edits, I'm convinced you're not of that kind. Happy to know you and I suggest you come up as a registered user so that we can collaborate on other similar articles. Hi, Thanks for the welcome. I wanted to upload a picture to the McLibel trial page as the leaflet image is incorrect, but can't as I'm not an administrator. Can you help? Many thanks, Devin BB1649 (talk) 16:40, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

Dear Devin (User:BB1649). Please go through WP:UPIMAGE. You don't have to be an administrator to upload an image since any user can do so. Do you have the right image? If so, please make sure it is not a copyrighted one (if the author of the image had died more than, say, 75 years ago, the copyright would have expired and it will be in the public domain [in which case you do not need anyone's permission to use it]). Then you can upload the image on Wikimedia Commons (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:First_steps/Upload_form) using Upload Wizard available there. Once uploaded, you can copy the file name and use it on any Wikipedia page. Hope this helps. Cheers. Rasnaboy (talk) 17:03, 24 February 2021 (UTC)

Quotes, language, and reverts

Hello Rasnaboy. You've been around quite some time, so surely you are aware that unless we are directly quoting a source, we need to use neutral language. POV terms should not be used in Wikipedia's voice. And when reverting someone's edit, it's generally poor form to do a manual revert so as to avoid pinging them. It gives the impression that you're trying to game the system. Please don't do that. Parsecboy (talk) 14:34, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

Oh, yeah! I'm getting what you're saying. Thanks for pointing it out. And I want to tell you that that wasn't my intention in the first place. I didn't try to revert your change but change the sentence according to the source (in order to avoid POV), but ended up doing the actual revert after referring to the source. It just said the same thing ("...began when animals first were captured and enslaved..." [p. 208, line 19]). Hope you understand. Sorry about my faulty action. And thank you for taking time and effort to explain me my fault. Cheers. Rasnaboy (talk) 14:54, 9 March 2021 (UTC)

King James Version1 Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews: 2 And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures, 3 Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ. 4 And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few. 5 But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people. 6 And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also; 7 Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus. 8 And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things. 9 And when they had taken security of Jason, and of the other, they let them go. 10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. 11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. 12 Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few. 13 But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was preached of Paul at Berea, they came thither also, and stirred up the people. 14 And then immediately the brethren sent away Paul to go as it were to the sea: but Silas and Timotheus abode there still. 15 And they that conducted Paul brought him unto Athens: and receiving a commandment unto Silas and Timotheus for to come to him with all speed, they departed. 16 Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry. 17 Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him. 18 Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection. 19 And they took him, and brought him unto Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine, whereof thou speakest, is? 20 For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean. 21 (For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.) 22 Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious. 23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. 24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; 25 Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; 26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation; 27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us: 28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. 29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device. 30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: 31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. 32 And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter. 33 So Paul departed from among them. 34 Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.

Thank you for your notes on entering Wikipedia

"Good afternoon @Rasnaboy. I posted this request on a Wikipedia administrator`s page on Tuesday but had no response. I have copied and pasted it here for your attention. I noticed when reading Thandie Newtons Wikipedia article that you were a contributor. I have recently read her cover story in this months Vogue UK, and I noticed the racial bias she had faced in Hollywood from female producers nontheless- one in particular remarked that black actresses did not play University graduates. I deduce from your profile that apart from being a Wikipedia administrator you are also an inclusivist and pro-women. I would like to request you to investigate why the roles that Angelique Rockas [ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angelique_Rockas ](an artistic inclusivist , and some sort of pioneer) has acted with her own company Internationalist Theatre [5] are not even listed in the main space article, even though there are some production photographs. I noticed that in the Wikipedia article of another actor of South African descent Paul Herzberg , a contributor provided his Spotlight page as a record of his performances . I tracked down Ms Rockas `s Spotlight page [ https://www.spotlight.com/0938-4538-5216 ] and it would be beneficial don`t you think if you as an administrator could find the time to investigate omission and possibly ask someone to complete the page. Thank you . Keep safe {CAlexander783 (talk) 13:34, 12 April 2021 (UTC)} " Can you @Rasnaboy. do something about this ? Thank you Keep safe {CAlexander783 (talk) 13:10, 15 April 2021 (UTC)}

Thanks for writing in. Just wanted to clarify that I'm not an admin here but just a regular user. Nevertheless, that shouldn't matter here because anyone can update information on Wikipedia so long as they have a reliable source for their claims. As far as I remember, I haven't edited the Thandie Newtons or Angelique Rockas articles so far. But as I said, if we have reliable sources we can very well include all those statements/informations. First, let me go through these articles to understand what those claims are about. Meanwhile, please go through the links in my welcome message on your talk page whenever time permits and you'll soon learn how to identify reliable sources and add those for yourself with citations. Cheers. Rasnaboy (talk) 08:46, 17 April 2021 (UTC)

Message from User:Charlie fairbairn

Hi Rasnaboy you emailed me with a welcome back in 2019 and I am just responding now.

I've done 100 minor edits but still forget some very simple technical stuff. Anyways it's a wonderful resource.

"At the end of your message, don't forget to sign by adding four tildes. "

Hi Charlie fairbairn. Thanks for writing in. I guess you're intending to convey me about your recent findings. But if you put them within the "commenting tags" ("") as you did here, all the text within will be treated as a comment in the coding view and will not be shown in the main (article) view. So, I've removed those tags here and you're message is now visible to me. Happy to know that you've completed your first 100 edits. Keep rocking. Also use four tildes after you write anything in any talk page so that your signature will appear automatically in the article view. Cheers. Rasnaboy (talk) 04:38, 7 May 2021 (UTC)

TrangaBellam (talk) 12:24, 23 May 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for notifying. The original work has been translated in various language, and it is the only translation available in the Meitei language. Hence the available info is limited. Nevertheless, I have added additional citation to back the contents. I also found that this is the first ever translation of a Tamil work in the Meitei language. This may partly explain the paucity of information on it. With these additions, I've removed the deletion proposal tag in the article as instructed in the tag. Thanks. "One Complain"belongs to me(I ame Shears (talk) 07:23, 5 June 2021 (UTC))

Greetings, User:I ame shears. Just been through your article INS Porbandar, which is an interesting one. Regarding the recent reverts in it, I think those are in line with the Wiki policies such as not citing Wikipedia itself for the claims. Nevertheless, the article seems to be a good start and I would presently rate it as a stub. As you get more reliable sources, you can improve the article citing those sources and adding images. Since anyone can edit any article, users can add or remove contents explaining each edit with valid reason. If you had cited reliable sources for the claims, then those deleted text can be reverted without any problem. Please don't get disappointed if editors revert your edits citing some reasons. You'll just have to find reliable citations to back those claims. Will keep that article in my watchlist. Please go through the links in the welcome message on your talk page and you'll know how to add authentic sources. Hope this list would be helpful to you. You can check with any of the fellow editors, including me, for assistance. Happy editing. Rasnaboy (talk) 14:10, 5 June 2021 (UTC)

What is assessment in wikipedia and how it is useful for the user???

I was going through my profile , there I have find that I have got many assessment like start, stub...what are these things. Please help me to know. (I ame Shears (talk) 07:33, 5 June 2021 (UTC))

Wiki articles are assessed on the basis of the quality and quantity of their contents. An article created using a mere explanation about the topic (and maybe a couple of more details) would make it a "stub article". If the article is a bit elaborate, i.e., more than a definition with various subheadings and an infobox if necessary, it would qualify as a "start class". A much detailed one with some images and a decent coverage would make it a "C class" and a very elaborate one with almost every detail available on it would make it a "B class". Beyond this, external reviewers would review the article and assess it as "good article," "A class" article, and finally a "featured article", depending on the coverage and the quality of the content. A featured article is one of the best articles available on Wikipedia on a said topic. Please go through this page for a detailed essay on this: Wikipedia:Content assessment. As you find more reliable sources, any article can be upgraded to the next level. Rasnaboy (talk) 14:19, 5 June 2021 (UTC)

why are you deleting the info i am uploading ? who are you, what do you know about dhr ? why did you deleted the table ? DHRExpert (talk) 12:44, 12 August 2021 (UTC)
Dear DHRExpert. Thanks for checking this with me. That was removed as part of the routine cleanup. Except for some of the info you added (such as the name of the current director, website, etc.), the remaining were of least or no encyclopedic value. I don't think the list of directors of a railway section could be considered as encyclopedic as the list of governor generals, list of secretary generals of the UN, list of ambassadors at a diplomatic post, etc. (nevertheless, you can ask this at the article's talk page so that other editors and reviewers would post their opinions). Any major achievement these directors accomplish during their tenure will be of encyclopedic value only with respect to the topic (Darjeeling Railway) and not with respect to the individual directors (unless we have Wikipedia articles on these directors themselves). For example, if a particular director has, let's say, created a history by replacing the steam locomotive with a solar-powered locomotive, that will not recorded in Wikipedia as "Mr. XXX has replaced ..." but only as "The railways began operating solar-powered locomotives from 20XX, replacing the steam locomotive." Please check out these rules: WP:NOT, WP:NOTDIR, WP:EXCESSDETAIL. Rasnaboy (talk) 18:44, 12 August 2021 (UTC)

सुस्वागतम्, मित्र मामा॥

I am glad to help - I was raised like that, until I am so used to wanting to help people and explain things to them. Such as adding the Sanskrit word for Shaivism, because it does not seem right for something holy like that not to have a word in the holy language.

Does it seem odd that I am of Chinese descent, but I am also Hindu? I usually pray to Shiva, Kali, and Ganesha for their help.

(If you're unable to read Sanskrit, the phrase I used means "You are welcome, my friend." I managed to learn a little bit of Sanskrit grammar.)

PulauKakatua19 (talk)

Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. See thread at Talk:Nose ring (animal)#Inappropriate links. Platonk (talk) 08:31, 28 October 2021 (UTC)

Year of construction for temples

Hi Rasnaboy. Thanks for your feedback. Will surely do wherever available. Cheers. Gardenkur (talk) 09:49, 2 November 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Unfortunately, I seem to have been instantly embroiled in an edit war - as one editor accuses me of being a sock of another (despite the fact that I disagree with them both!) and they wage an edit war on my own talk page. Would appreciate any support or advice in getting this addressed.

MoreWhalesFromWales (talk) 12:18, 10 November 2021 (UTC)

Hi. Welcome. Am yet to see and understand what the issue is about. On a glance, I presume you're apparently editing on the same lines (which could be same content, same claims, same article/topic, etc.) as a previously blocked user. In such case, the admins may investigate for sockpuppetry, especially if you're a new registered user (which you are). Generally, edit warring (WP:Edit warring) is something to be avoided. This can be done simply by staying away from the "war". When you have a proper source to back your claim, you can discuss in the talk page to reach consensus. Sometimes, edit warring can still happen even with proper sources and proper discussion chiefly due to varied point of views among editors (this happens no matter how experienced a user you are; you can see one such warning to me a couple of sections above in this talk page). In such case, you can either discuss in the talk page or step aside to allow the other user to understand that your intention is not to edit war. The links in my welcome message on your talk page will give you an overall idea of Wikipedia rules and procedures. As a friendly suggestion, I would say you go through all the links and understand how things work here (WP:Five Pillars). Please find valid sources (WP:Reliable sources) for all your claims and be bold (WP:Be bold) in editing the contents. Do not hesitate to ask me or any of the fellow editors if you need help. :) This way we can build a great encyclopedia. Happy editing. Rasnaboy (talk) 17:50, 10 November 2021 (UTC)

Kesarwadi Jain temple at Puzhal

I think the Kesarwadi Jain temple at Puzhal is a notable temple in Category:Jain temples in Chennai. Please consider creating it if you are able to find more sources. Venkat TL (talk) 10:36, 26 November 2021 (UTC)

Sure. Will look into that. Thanks. Rasnaboy (talk) 04:55, 29 November 2021 (UTC)

Jaguar

I don't know if you've looked at the mobile app for today's page, but I was trying to fix the bracket () that appears instead of the wording of jaguar or the title of Panthera onca. More has to be done than a simple revert because the error still persists. Cltjames (talk) 22:46, 28 November 2021 (UTC)

I appreciate the effort, but I think the brackets can be retained (or perhaps merged by adding a semicolon, depending on how other similar articles appear). I just reverted the needless additions, such as "Felis", when as a big cat it should rather be Panthera. Also there's no need to remove italics in binomial nomenclature. Hence I reverted. Thanks, User:SunEye1, for cleaning up this article. Thought of creating this article while going through COVID-19 pandemic in Tamil Nadu. Noticed numerous news articles about this person since last week and created this article since I thought this was notable enough. Will try to find more sources. Thanks. Notice

The article Royapettah High Road has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

City road with no indication of notability to deserve a Wikipedia article. Fails WP:GNG

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Venkat TL (talk) 19:19, 16 December 2021 (UTC)

Just tried expanding a bit and removed the deletion proposal tag. Thanks. Rasnaboy (talk) 05:51, 17 December 2021 (UTC)

Misquoting on Maridhas as court

Can you explain why you are passing off a quote by Maridhas as said by the court? Venkat TL (talk) 16:52, 18 December 2021 (UTC)

Just noticed that while condensing the observations made by Judge G. R. Swaminathan in the previous paragraph, perhaps I mistook the pronoun in the last para for the judge rather than the petitioner himself. I was juggling with several sources at a time to understand the issue there and made the mismatch. Thanks for spotting. Rasnaboy (talk) 17:08, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
Ok. Please be more attentive specially with such controversial topics and WP:BLP. Venkat TL (talk) 09:45, 20 December 2021 (UTC)
Sure. Always. :) Rasnaboy (talk) 10:14, 20 December 2021 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Category:Jain temples in Chennai indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself.
