Hi. Can you please let me know if/when you launch an RfC? I always miss those things. --Anthonyhcole (talk) 15:05, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

OK. For now, the first step is to get someone to make the gadget:Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical)#Gadget_for_control_of_image_display. Rd232 talk 11:00, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
I guess that would nip in the bud any objections about technical difficulties. If you have trouble getting it made, go to the RfC without it, and if the idea is adopted we can get the Foundation to fund it. --Anthonyhcole (talk) 14:27, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

Image filter question

Hi, I posted a question here about the image filter in case you missed it. In point 3: "allow logged-in users to change their preferences, so images can be off by default (i.e. shown only after clicking), and to hide the images on/off switch," what does "to hide the images on/off switch" mean? Many thanks, SlimVirgin (talk) 21:53, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

Someone else answered that, but to clarify: the idea is there's to be a per-page on/off switch, icon or link somewhere on the screen. Users who don't want that icon/link should be able to get rid of it. Rd232 talk 13:39, 4 September 2012 (UTC)

Hello

Seems like we work on the same topic: Venezuela. Let me introduce myself: I am Hahc21 (this is my alt account, Razr Nation which I use for maintenance, NPP, AFD and AFI) and I have been getting interested by Venezuela-related topics (I am Venezuelan, after all) and I'd like to make a collaborative effort with you on maintaining and keeping the Wikiproject alive. I mostly work on lists and I am currently planning to bring all Venezuelan regional elections and municipal elections articles to FL status, and presidential elections to Good article status. I'd like to talk to you very often so we can be in contact about the project and other stuff. By the way, I've answered why the Venezuelan regional elections, 2008 articles uses a dagger instead of bolding: It was requested at FLC. Saluts. — 01:31, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

Hi there, it's great that you're interested in Venezuela. I'm only semi-active so I'll make no promises, but if there's anything in particular you're working on you'd like some help with, feel free to ask. As to the dagger - well that's bizarre. Is that a normal thing for featured lists? (It really shouldn't be.) Rd232 talk 13:51, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
Well, I guess that different countries have different meaning for the dagger, I don't know. I made the list bolding the winners and then i received complaints of WP:BADEMPHASIS and had to change it. When I asked how to change it, i was recommended to use a symbol like a dagger or an asterisk, and I chose the dagger because it was more visible than an asterisk. Also, I've seen may other uses of the dagger not related to death (like od several music articles, and other lists) so i think it may be an usual practice there. — ΛΧΣ21 18:24, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
? BADEMPHASIS doesn't mention this bolding usage, and seems focussed on articles rather than lists anyway... As for universality of the dagger meaning - see Wikipedia's own article, Dagger_(symbol)#Modern_usage second paragraph, especially the third sentence: When placed immediately before or after a person's name, it indicates that the person is deceased. So whilst it's probably best avoided altogether, it should absolutely not be put next to people's names! Rd232 talk 18:36, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
I understand your point. I may find a different symbol and change it soon. The dagged is added by the {{ElectionResult}} template when the winner is called and the green background is added. — ΛΧΣ21 01:33, 2 November 2012 (UTC)

Editing restriction discussion

Substubs you created

In relation to the substubs you are creating, e.g. Frank J. Burgoyne and Émile Sagot‎, you may want to consider if these people have anough notoriety per WP:notability guidelines and policies. Your claim that these pages are "created to support documentation of copyright info needed for their work on Commons" is not a sufficient reason to justify these pages' existence in and of itself. You need to verify existence of sufficient independent references to the subjects, among other things, to establish notability. cherkash (talk) 18:40, 8 November 2012 (UTC)

OK, thanks. If I need someone to teach my grandmother how to suck eggs, I'll know where to turn. Rd232 talk 19:26, 8 November 2012 (UTC)
Your response is unnecessarily rude. Try to learn to be civil, it may come in handy. cherkash (talk) 00:33, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
Rude? You didn't answer my question, and instead sought to lecture me about notability of people where it should be obvious that notability is not an issue. And then you have the cheek to complain about me being rude when I brush off your lecture with a well-known phrase? Hum. Rd232 talk 00:57, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
Hmm. Interesting. The way you phrased your question, I presumed it to be rhetorical – so I just removed the wikify tags. cherkash (talk) 17:09, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
Rhetorical or not (it wasn't, I wanted to know what you were thinking or whether it was just a mistake), it deserved a reply. If you were willing to remove the tags in response, at least an "OK, guess the tag wasn't needed there" would be reasonable. Rd232 talk 17:21, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
Agreed. cherkash (talk) 17:48, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
in case it helps to be any clearer about my remark: created to support documentation of copyright info is obviously predicated on there being sources to provide that documentation. Did you tag so very quickly you didn't even see the sources? Rd232 talk 01:05, 9 November 2012 (UTC)
As you seen on his talkpage he always does that, but I am not here to talk about it. I'm here to discuss the Émile Sagot page, where I added one more source which reveals that she is also a lithographer and that she died in 2 different years (1875 and 1888 death dates). Now, go back and see, as I don't know which one is the right one?!--Mishae (talk) 16:34, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for adding "lithographer". she died in 2 different years - well I doubt that, especially since "Emile" is a male French name :). I saw the artifact.com source and ignored it; I think VIAF is reliable here. Rd232 talk 17:20, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
Rd232, I've seen your references before I made my comments. While the references support some factual information (like years of birth or death), it's not clear they establish notability. cherkash (talk) 17:09, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
If you really doubted the notability you'd have nominated them for deletion, or tagged them for notability, or asked me about it. You just turned round to find things to complain about when I asked you a simple question (which you still haven't answered). Rd232 talk 17:20, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
I really do doubt the notability. No other reason (I'm not an expert) except the content of the pages and the references provided. As for your implications, I didn't "just turn round" - my original edits were done in a mode where I didn't necessarily review the whole content of the pages, so when you raised the question I obviously took a closer look, and that's why my notability comments. I didn't want to nominate for deletion yet, since I wanted to give you a fair chance to really beef up the pages without time pressure that's usually associated with RfD's. cherkash (talk) 17:48, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
mm hm. Well anyway, I'm happy that Sagot notability is demonstrated with VIAF and a book about his work. Burgoyne was less secure, but I've now found another source that gives more detail, and added that. Rd232 talk 18:06, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
Well, I don't know about the first name, but the last name is not very common of french, since it doesn't have de thing, which is common in french last names. But, what do I know, I am just the Russian!:) Another thing to mention, the lithographer job I found on Artifact.com, maybe its just a different Emile, but the birth date, and the illustrator position was also applied. So I added that source. The question that now opened, is that that source have a complitely different death date (1875). Could there be 2 different Emile Sagots, that had the same job and same birth date? Doubt that. And since the birth month and date aren't specified (only the year), chances are, its the same person. Do check the source through, just to be safe!--Mishae (talk) 18:43, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
I assumed it was the same person since the name and birthyear are the same, and profession closely related. NB most French surnames don't have "de" in them - this means "of" and indicates an aristocratic origin. Rd232 talk 18:54, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
Maybe I ment de la? But then its Spanish, since Spaniards do have la in their surnames. I might be wrong though, but thanks for the tip either way.:) Another thing, if you find that your talkpage have stalked or trolled by me (I sometimes can excidently go overboard), do let me know, and I will try to stop my actions. :)--Mishae (talk) 19:23, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
de la is the same (and the same in Spanish). Don't worry, more talking is better than less! :) Rd232 talk 20:01, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for explanation. The way how I talk though no one else does! I can tell a story, that could fill up a whole Wiki Book! Thats actualy one reason when talking more is dangerous for me in some cases. :) Another thing, I fixed the stub in Frank J. Burgoyne article, since he is the author, Wikipedia have writer-stubs as well as writer-by-country-stubs. In your case I did British-writer-stub, which is better then British-bio-stub that you had. Readers need much broader info when it comes to articles. Another thing, I looked at your Frank J. Burgoyne article, and I have a question: Shoudn't you use "blockquote" or {Quote} template? Here is the instructions on how to create one.--Mishae (talk) 20:12, 10 November 2012 (UTC)
Yes, thanks for the more specific stub tag, that's helpful. <blockquote> and {{quote}} are best reserved for longer quotes - the Burgoyne ones are short enough to be inline. Rd232 talk 20:38, 10 November 2012 (UTC)

Faroese speaker needs on Commons

Hi, you have contacted me on my talk page on the Farose Wikipedia. I am not sure what you need to know. Regarding the Faroese national anthem, the poet died on 9 October 1942, so it is more than 70 years ago, so even if we follow the American law the copyright would have expired. We use the Danish "Grundlov", but not all Danish laws apply to the Faroe Islands. The Faroese government can chose to make a law apply to the Faroe Islands or they can chose that a sertain Danish law will not apply to the Faroe Islands. I.e. the the shops in the Faroe Islands are not allowed to sell alcohol, only a the monopoly store can do that, while it is free in Denmark. Regarding copyright, I am not sure, but here is a Faroese law (written in Danish): [2] Kind regards EileenSanda (talk) 14:49, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

OK, that takes care of the national anthem. What about File:Coat-of-arms_of_the_Faroe_Islands.png? It's taken from the Faroese Prime Minister's Office. Does the archived source explain the copyright status? Or are official symbols public domain (as they are in some countries)? Rd232 talk 22:17, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

Requesting mediation on the subject of User:Launchballer's signature. I see you've had discussions with this user before, and since the user informed me that he had previous issues and my issue was never brought up then, I have decided to research this. I've so far found you have had issues there before, and would like you to help mediate this to make sure the user understands there is no "grandfathering" as it were of signatures. Hi. I can't say I remember Launchballer's signature issue... Compliance with WCAG is now part of WP:SIG, though I don't remember when that happened. I'll leave a note in the discussion you linked above.
I would say though that looking at your signature, built around a request for users to change their JS to view your signature... and if they make the effort, they're rewarded with your signature blinking at them... well words simply fail me. I appreciate you've tweaked your signature in response to comments, but really, what are you trying to achieve here? Rd232 talk 22:57, 2 April 2013 (UTC)

They all have a place, but you have them in the right order. Of course it doesn't matter since no one will ever change. Anyhow, not worth crying about. There are hundreds of great books, reference works, articles, journals, newspapers and web pages being published every day. The sum of human knowledge is outside the fence. I think that every time I pick up a book like the CRC or Chemistry of the Elements or Earnst's 2008 compendium of the world's turtles. Or even just google the web itself. Or pick up the WSJ and marvel at all the content produced daily, laid out, transmitted and printed and circulated (even on 12SEP2001).TCO (talk) 20:24, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

The article Oliver James (psychologist) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable person. No evidence of in depth coverage in independent reliable sources. None of the references appears to be independent. Googling doesn't seem to find anything independent.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Share the good feelings.

Samito1050 (talk) 15:23, 26 December 2014 (UTC)This is not personal, Michael, but global society has become so reliant on models and maps that we have lost all contact with the real world that preceded the map. Reality itself has begun merely to imitate the model that we editors create of reality. Are these really good feelings? Let us go beyond good and evil. The whole world needs festivals and schedules. Thank you for believing in the status quo.

Speedy deletion nomination of Abdur Raheem Kidwai

Hello Rd232,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Abdur Raheem Kidwai for deletion, because it seems to be a test. Did you know that the Wikipedia Sandbox is available for testing out edits?

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. TheLongTone (talk) 14:56, 19 October 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Omar Camero Zamora requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Alexf(talk) 21:54, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
