It seems User:Gunktvrecords got renamed to a more acceptable user name after you blocked that account. Sarah Tiana

Hi again Tokyogirl79. Would you mind taking a look at Sarah Tiana? It's another BLP, similar to User talk:Tokyogirl79#Rita Pam Tarachi, that is in need of some assistance. I've tried doing a bit of cleanup, but the article is basically unsourced and I'm not sure how much of it can be saved. I'm particularly concerned about the Sarah Tiana#Personal life section since it mentions therapy and a personal relationships with another BLP, which may or may not be true. Anyway, it seems that most of the article content was added by an SPA, and I'm not sure if they have a conflict of interest. The article hasn't be tagged to any Wikipedia Projects and it looks like it was directly added to the mainspace by the aforementioned SPA. I'm thinking this might be a candidate for BLPPROD or AfD since the sources provided do not indicate even WP:BASIC is satisfied, but there's always WP:BEFORE to try first.   • I've removed the personal life section since we'd definitely need RS for that. I've also left a lengthy comment about notability. I'd say that if you can't find coverage for her other than her Reno role, I'd redirect this to that article and/or take it to AfD.     • Thank you for taking a look and thank you for the post you left on the article's talk page. So far, I haven't been able to find any independent sources giving Tiana sigcov, but I'll keep looking. As for the personal life stuff, I was going to remove it, but (for some silly reason) I over thunk it (at least the original version) because it sort of seemed like it was was intended to be a half joke and thus somehow made it OK. Anyway, thanks for removing that content after I dropped the ball. FWIW, the use of the first name throughout (before my attempted cleanup), all the little personal/trivia details and the fact that most of the content was added by an SPA kinda makes me wonder if this is a disguised attempt at an autobio. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:46, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

From what I can see this isn't an image he's using on a website, just for Wikipedia, so all you'll likely need to do is have someone help you put in the correct permission information. You might be asked to file a ticket with the volunteer response team and if so, that's a relatively easy process that I can help you with when it comes to wording and what to submit. As far as Didym goes, I think that he's just off the Internet for right now and hasn't seen his talk page on Wikimedia Commons just yet, so I wouldn't worry. It looks like he's on the Commons every day (per his edit history) so he should see it next time he logs in. If all else fails, I know that someone at the help boards should be able to help weigh in with suggestions. You might be able to re-upload the image as long as you put in the correct permission information, though. This was an image that your office took and not an official promotional image? Vandal needs to be blocked

Hi. Can you please block 166.177.123.100 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · filter log · WHOIS · RDNS · RBLs · http · block user · block log)? This user was reported to WP:AIV a while ago but is still vandalizing pages. The vandal is repeatedly vandalizing The Rugrats Movie and Rugrats Go Wild with hoax casting and such. Here's what I wrote at AIV: "This is likely the same vandal as 162.201.80.107 (talk · contribs · WHOIS), who's currently blocked for three months. In Love With Shah Rukh Khan - The Book

Having looked at various relevant editing histories, I decided that In Love With Shah Rukh Khan - The Book was created by a block-evading sockpuppet, so I speedily deleted it. I then went back to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/In Love With Shah Rukh Khan - The Book, intending to deleted that too, but I saw that you have edited the AfD page, and said you would clean up the article. Do you have any view on what to do now? My preference would be to leave the article deleted and delete the AfD as no longer relevant, but since you have edited there I thought I would consult you. Other options are to speedily close the AfD or to restore the article and let the AfD run its course, but I think just deleting the AfD would be the simplest , and since the end result will almost certainly be deletion of the article anyway, the simplest way of getting there is probably best. What do I think we should do about the draft article? I can think of several possibilities. It would not have been unreasonable to have deleted the draft at the time of the AfD, as the draft was at that time really just the earlier editing history of the article, which should have been moved from draft to article, rather than cut and pasted. That is no longer quite true now, as there have been further edits, but those edits have been edits by a block-evading sockpuppet and yourself, plus one bot edit. I wouldn't object to its being speedily deleted, as it is effectively a combination of content which could have been deleted as a result of the AfD, and sockpuppet edits, but it doesn't fit the letter of any speedy criterion, so there would need to be a dose of IAR included. Alternatively, it could be taken to MfD. There is also the option of just leaving it, and seeing if anyone edits it in the next 6 months: if nobody does, then G13 comes into effect, and if someone does, MfD can be considered. By the way, the draft I referred to in the recent AfD that I created and deleted was not the one you have edited: it was another copy of the draft, which was created by the most recent sockpuppet, and which I have deleted. I don't think that is important at all, but it just occurred to me that if you thought my comment was referring to the other draft, which still exists, then my reference to the sockpuppet having created it would seem strange, so I thought I would clarify it. Course Help

Hi Tokyogirl79!

I noticed you are an MLIS student, so I thought I would direct this question to you, given our common background! I'm an academic librarian and an instructor for a credit-bearing information literacy course. I'd love to get my students editing Wikipedia (in a similar fashion to the #1lib1ref project) -- and hopefully, creating a new Wikipedia article on a local, but "notable" woman for whom many secondary sources exist. In any event, I've read a mountain of Wikipedia pages on creating a course in Wikipedia, and to be honest, I'm finding it overwhelming and intimidating. I want to make this a positive learning experience for my students, but I'm afraid my lack of experience may be an obstacle. I saw you might be an ambassador for this project? If so, can you give me some guidance?

I'm still looking, but something you guys might want to check into is seeing if any of the local archives have anything on Reynolds - a lot of times they'll have stuff written up that haven't been made available on the Internet. I didn't immediately see anything at the North Carolina History Project, but the NCpedia had her mentioned a few times in relation to the Reynolda House and her children.
I'll get started on an outline at Draft:Katharine Smith Reynolds. Putting it at "draft" rather than in the live space will be helpful since this way your students will be able to make edits freely and at their own pace, without worrying about having to immediately establish notability or have everything completed right away. Another vandal needs to be blocked

Remember that vandal that was adding hoax information to Rugrats films? He's back, and he's going through a bunch of articles while we wait for action at AIV. If it's not already blocked, can you block 166.177.122.22 (talk · contribs · WHOIS)?

Also, can you semi-protect Liam Neeson filmography? Going back to December 2015, hoaxers have been hitting this article pretty hard. Examples: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5] I can probably suggest more based on User:NinjaRobotPirate/Animation hoaxer#Copycat, but that's the one probably most needs protection.   • @Icem4k: What you need first are more sources that can help confirm the claims in the article. By this what I mean is that you need things like newspaper coverage of the performer. Now be careful, as not all sources are alike. Avoid self-published sources like blogs, as those rarely undergo the sort of editorial oversight that Wikipedia requires of its reliable sources, if they are edited at all. Many blogs are run by 1-2 people or post content without any sort of fact checking, which is why they're usually considered unreliable on Wikipedia, regardless of how popular they may be. You can use some WP:PRIMARY sources (things posted by the artist or people/places/organizations affiliated with him), but they cannot show notability and if the claims are fairly major, they may still be contested. For example, if the only place that confirms an award is the performer's site, then that will almost certainly be contested on Wikipedia - especially the notability of the award. Unfortunately we've had cases of people trying to hoodwink Wikipedia and others by posting about fake awards and content on their websites, so they've ruined it for pretty much everyone else and we have to have reliable, secondary sources about awards and major claims.
Now I'm aware that it can be fairly difficult to find content for African related topics and people, as not all of Africa's publications post online or host archives. It's also not my specialty area (I do more movie and book content relating to the US, UK, and India) so I'm going to ask for help at Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa finding sources.   • @Ranganathancse: The article was pretty unambiguously promotional and it was also a recreation of an article deleted at AfD. If you're interested in writing about them, I'd recommend going through the articles for creation process since that'd give you a bit more time to work on the article and improve things. If you have a conflict of interest (meaning that you work for them or were otherwise asked to create the page, possibly for pay) then it's really important that you note this somewhere (preferably on your user page) and go through AfC.
Now as far as the article goes, you need to avoid promotional prose. Sentences like the following are considered to be inappropriate for Wikipedia and was one of the main reasons the article was deleted:
"In a world where one’s ability to do more things finally defines success, Helpchat can be every smart consumer’s little trump card!"

  • MaranoFan, I looked at the draft article for Draft:Watch Me Do, but you don't have any sourcing on the page. If I move it without sourcing it's quite likely that it'll be nominated for deletion or redirected, so you'll need to add some coverage to establish notability - singles aren't automatically notable for having been released or performed by a notable person.   • Hmm... I'm concerned that you're pulling a lot of reception from articles that are about 3-5 sentences long. Something like this is definitely a review of the song, but I'm concerned that something like this could be seen as too short to really be seen as a good in-depth source. In other words I'm concerned that it might be seen as too WP:TRIVIAL of a source. However it's already in the mainspace, so what's done is already done. I'd just keep an eye out for articles that are closer to the Music Times article in length and depth, because really short articles like the Fuse one can sometimes be challenged fairly easily. BLP1E

Hi Tokyogirl79. You've been very helpful to me in the past so I thought you might be able to clarify something for me. Is WP:BLP1E typically an argument for deletion or inclusion. My reading of it is that individuals who have essentially received coverage in independent sources were being connected to some event are not necessarily notable for their own stand-alone article. The reason I'm asking is because of Mark Mercer (musician). The whole basis of the article seems to be the way Mercer died and all of the coverage is focused on that single event. Mercer doesn't seem to be notable as a musician and his death while tragic also doesn't so to be a significant enough event to warrant its own article. The article seems to be part WP:NOTNEWS and WP:NOTMEMORIAL. Anyway, I'm thinking about BLPPROD or AfD, but wanted another opinion first. If not deletion, then maybe this is a candidate for a redirect either to Avast! Recording Company or H is for Hellgate. Thanks in advance. -- Marchjuly (talk) 08:33, 3 April 2016 (UTC)

  • It's kind of a tricky thing since it's sort of transformed over the years. The main thing is that BLP1E only applies to living people, so Mercer wouldn't really fall under this since he's dead. However, here's the basic gist of the policy as I understand it:
  • BLP1E covers living people who are known for one event. If the event only received a smattering of coverage, odds are that it'd warrant deletion. If the event got a lot of coverage but it's all recent then there's a good chance that it'd qualify for deletion.
  • Examples of this would be something like a runner that received coverage for cheating at a marathon but didn't gain any coverage beyond some initial articles. Any followup coverage were either brief mentions or were written by non-reliable sources.
  • If the event itself is notable, odds are that it would warrant a redirect. However if someone has received enough coverage over a long period of time, this could count towards notability.
  • An example of this would be Margaret Brown. She's dead, of course, so technically doesn't qualify for BLP1E, but this is an example of how someone can become notable for one event. The implication with this though, is that becoming independently notable would take a lot of time.
  • If the event is particularly scandalous, BLP1E can be used to examine if the event could do any harm to the subject. If the coverage is all recent, WP:HARM comes into play.
  • Belle Knox is a decent example of this, as she was noticed for starring in porn in order to pay for college. There was serious debate over whether or not the coverage (which was quite heavy) was enough to justify notability. She later gained far more coverage, so that became a bit of a moot point. A better example would likely be the alleged cheating by the marathon runner, as they only gained coverage for a few weeks and as the cheating was all alleged, it ran a serious risk of being used as an attack page. Another interesting example is Stephen Charlie's prostitution of a child, since the coverage there was exceptionally heavy. This isn't exactly a BLP1E as much as it's 1E, but some of the same arguments would apply.
  • If the event isn't really all that notable, then you need to question if it's really worth an entry.
  • This is used to justify deletion of the various articles that pop up when someone gets in the news for doing something frivolous, like streaking at a major sporting event.
In other words, it's all sort of dependent on the article. So far, looking at the article, I have to say that I can see reason for concern. A producer isn't automatically notable because they worked with notable bands, since that's sort of a WP:NOTINHERITED type of deal. Part of this is because bands and albums can have a lot of producers that get involved to various degrees. The same thing goes for recording companies - they can go through dozens, if not hundreds of producers. If there's coverage that specifically highlights him as particularly influential with the company or bands, then that's somewhat different but offhand I'm not seeing much in a search. I had a total brain cramp on that very important point.[[File:|25px|link=]] Do you think a redirect is an option here? The band article just mentions Mercer once and the label article not at all. It's unlikely (not impossible I guess) that Mercer will receive the sigcov needed for a stand-alone article in the future, so I'm not sure if there's any value in a redirect other than it saves the article's edit history. -- Marchjuly (talk) 09:09, 3 April 2016 (UTC)

Notability of a film

I've got some sources for a film article that I'd like to create, but I'm not sure it's enough. What do you think? It's a Singaporean documentary called The Naked DJ (IMDb link). The main thing I've got is this Variety review, but I've also got this article at Kedaulatan Rakyat that verifies it won the NETPAC Award. I also found two interviews: New Durian Cinema, which claims to be a journal; and SINdie, which looks like a kind of generic film blog. I've searched everywhere, and this is about the best I can find. I've been trying to expand our coverage of Singaporean films the past week, and it's usually not this difficult. English is one of the official languages of Singapore, so there are usually enough English-language reviews to establish notability. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 03:51, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

      • Also, I had only skimmed through the Durian interview; reading through it more thoroughly now, I think it goes a bit toward explaining things. The director, Kan Lume, says that he's been effectively blacklisted in Singapore after making a gay-themed film. Given that homosexuality is illegal in Singapore, I'm inclined to believe him. Reinstating deleted draft

Hi! I just noticed your message from 9 January about reinstating my deleted article "Debt-stacking method". You had asked if I have any conflicting interests. I do not. I'm a debtor who learned about the topic on Google. It's a widely-mentioned method of debt repayment, and the counterpart to the "debt snowball method". I copied the same format and tone as the other article, but i can rewrite it so it's less of an essay, and add a "Criticism" section to keep it neutral.   • I'm confused - you state that you don't have a COI, but then ask where you can mention that you have a COI. If you don't have one then you don't have to put it anywhere. In any case, the draft is already restored and you've linked to it, so the only thing you have to do at this point is start editing it to meet NPOV and notability guidelines.   • I'll ask for help at the anime and manga WP. I hate to say it, but voice actors tend to get the short end of the stick on Wikipedia because they tend to not gain coverage for their specific roles and their main mentions are in places that aren't considered reliable on Wikipedia. I've seen some fairly major voice actors get their articles deleted because they didn't have those reliable sources. Brianne Siddall is an excellent example of this, despite her participation in some of the most notable franchises out there. I mean, she voiced Tsukasa from the .hack series and Calumon from Digimon, (meaning hundreds of episodes, movies, and games between just those two), yet she's not considered to be notable. Part of this is because there are few to no reliable sources out there that list these credits, meaning that we can't verify that she performed in these roles.   • @Hannawing: I can't view the image history on Wikimedia Commons for File:Lost Years Award-Winning Poster (2nd Verson).jpg, but here's what I think happened: I think that the copyright holder may have uploaded it, but for whatever reason didn't include the creative commons copyright information. This is actually relatively easy to do depending on how you upload materials. Now here's something positive that may have come from this: uploading the file to Wikimedia Commons puts the item in the public domain, meaning that anyone can use the poster for their own purposes without having to pay for it, which can make things problematic if the director and production company wants to profit from the film and any merchandise. This is, I believe, because some of the creative commons copyrights are written to prevent people from profiting off of creative commons images. In other words, this was likely a good thing since I don't think that the production company wants to relinquish their copyright on the poster in question. Now what would be best would be to upload the poster to the main English Wikipedia under a different sort of license. It'd be fair use, but a very specific type of fair use that would mark it as only usable in the infobox and would also signify that the copyright holders still retained the overall copyright.   • I noted that the external links section on that page is very, very extensive. By your phrasing here I get the impression that you're likely someone who works with the company and as such, would have a conflict of interest. You will need to be transparent about this and divulge this somewhere like on your userpage. In any case, the reason I mentioned the external links section is that that amount of links is way, way too excessive for Wikipedia and actually comes across as WP:ELSPAM to a degree. This is image which was only recently deleted after being posted several months (over a year presumably)? The external links you are referring to are from recognized / accredited sources which were posted in response to original notes suggesting the opposite, that there were insufficient 3rd party references. The external links include broadsheets like the NY Times, LA Weekly. Likewise, commonly used references on Wiki, such as IMDb, which require verification of information before inclusion. It seems contrarian to be suggesting that the links are now too extensive if the original concern that there was insufficient verification of factual information.   • @Hannawing: The one currently on the article is the second movie poster. Now the thing about the EL section is that if you're using them as sources they need to be used in the article itself. Posting them all in the external links section comes across as a bit of spam, by which I mean that it comes across strongly like they're put there to promote the film. The external links section is not meant to be a catch all for any and all websites that mention the film. What was also somewhat problematic is that many of them couldn't be used to source the article since many of them were dead links (meaning that they didn't come up with anything), only mentioned the film in passing (making them WP:TRIVIAL sources), or they weren't places that Wikipedia would consider an independent and reliable source. A little more explanation here: trivial sources are ones where the film is only briefly mentioned in relation to something or someone else. Sometimes trivial sources can establish notability depending on what the source states and where it's posted, however this is fairly rare and the general rule of thumb is that if the claim in the trivial source is major enough to give notability then there will be better, more in-depth coverage out there. Also, the where and who of a source doesn't matter if the mention is only trivial. You can have a mention in one of the most notable newspapers out there, but if it's only a brief mention (like about an upcoming screening or an offhand mention that it relates to a topic) then that will not be able to show notability. Trivial sources can be used to back up some details, but they cannot show notability and having a lot of them in an article can actually backfire and give off the impression that the article topic isn't notable. This is because we've had people use this a lot for articles that are decidedly non-notable, predominantly stuff like no-name garage bands and obscure businesses but occasionally slightly more notable things, to the point where it's a really, really good idea to avoid using these. Now the other thing to be careful of is reliability. The existence of a source doesn't mean that it'd be considered reliable per Wikipedia's guidelines. For example, not all awards are notable and I'd go so far as to say that less than 5% of any award ever given (from Oscars to Nobel Prizes) shows notability - and even fewer of those would give complete notability, to where it'd keep on that basis alone. Most film festival awards are non-notable unless it's something exceptionally major like Cannes. A good way to tell if an award is particularly noteworthy is to look and see who reports the list of winners, where, and in what context. If a random blog or unreliable source lists the winners, that won't count towards the awards' notability but it will if you get most of the major film websites and newspapers listing the winners. Now if the source only mentions that they gave out awards or the awards are only listed in local papers, that's a fairly good indication that they're not notable. Another note on awards and sourcing in general: if the award or coverage comes from a place that is affiliated with the film, director, or other crew members, it cannot show notability. The reason for this is that places like the director's alma mater have good reason to give an award to someone who attended their school, since it makes the school look better and makes it more desirable to potential incoming students and benefactors.
I know that this all sounds a bit confusing, so don't feel bad if it all seems a little overwhelming. The guidelines for notability and reliability have a lot of catches to them and there are a lot of things that can trip up an article, especially since some of them (like overusing trivial sources) aren't really explicitly spelled out. I highly recommend running sources via WP:RS/N for the time being, if you see something that you think would make for a good addition to the article, since you're new to editing. Also, I was wondering if you had a conflict of interest and I don't know if you answered that or not - I'll post that on your talk page. Now the reason I'm asking this is because the way you're writing and your prior knowledge of the page gives off the strong impression that you're likely the prior account that was blocked for the promotional username.   • @Hannawing: Well... the username isn't the issue here per se - what I need to know is if you are the prior account and/or if you are directly involved with the film in some way. Your username is fine. What you need to declare is something like "I am a member of the film cast/crew/production company" or something to that extent, like you being a friend or family member of someone involved with the film or that you were paid to edit the article. This is something that you need to be very, very clear about because otherwise it can be construed as not only an undeclared conflict of interest but that you're trying to deliberately hide it - something that can actually lead to you getting blocked from editing without the option to create a new account. Hi Tokyogirl79, i have just (finally!!) created another kids book article, Clippity-Clop. much appreciated if you could have a quick look at it, there is a paucity of references but i think there is enough for it to remain (i will try to flesh out the reviews mentioned over the next week or so). Also, as it is by Pamela Allen it could be argued that it is covered by no. 5 of WP:BK. finally, is the plot ok?, i might have gone a bit overboard with the sound effects from the book, but that is one of the things that make it so charming. thanks,

Keranique Hair Care

Hi again Tokyogirl79. I stumbled across something that I'm not quite sure how to tackle. I saw Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions#How to link an article so that I couldn't count as orphon specially when article title is different and the text available in other article is different? at the Teahouse which lead me to User talk:Nicgf. I looked at Special:Contributions/Nicgf and found Keranique Hair Care. Is this the same article that you deleted (User talk:Nicgf#Article recreation) and which was speedily deleted twice and declined by AfC? -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:57, 21 April 2016 (UTC)

  • Pretty much. The article has slightly more written content than the version I speedied at Keranique hair, but the sourcing is almost identical. The only difference here is that while the new article does list more sources, they're all press releases and essentially the same one. I'm going to speedy it again as a recreation and I'm also going to block the editor for repeatedly trying to add this to Wikipedia.
