Heritage Jr. B

Hello, thank you for editing the Heritage Jr. B article I created. I live in Ontario and do not know much about hockey outside of my province. If you can, could you attempt to edit more of the leagues I worked on in Western Canada? There is a list of all the leagues I've done in my user page, if you can help... please do... there is Jr. A, Jr. B, and Jr. C to be editted to some degree. I'd also like there to be some league history added, but I do not know much about these leagues other than that they exist. If you'd like to talk to me, please write me in my "My talk" page. You are welcome. I was actually surprised a page was even created for the HJHL. I'm starting with the AJHL first, having just created a page for the Calgary Royals, but will work on some of the other Alberta based leagues that I am familiar with as well. Resolute 04:42, 13 March 2006 (UTC)

Well... before I started there was no pages for any league under major junior... and that pissed me off a little. I played all levels of OHA junior hockey... and I wanted to make it possible for people on wiki to know about the OHF, OHA, and OPJHL... from there... I thought it wouldn't be fair to stop with Ontario, so any Canadian junior league I found... I built... PEI to BC... if you look in the history... you should see my name. Oddly, the HJHL was one of the first I found out west... Alberta and BC leagues are much easier to find than Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Quebec (which I've only found one league in so far sadly, I'm not bilingual which makes it tough). I'm actually really wondering what happened to the Calgary Jr. B League... I saw a link to it on a PEI league site... and can't find it... although it did help me find the Saskatchewan Jr. C League which has a team in Calgary and the Noralta Jr. C league which seems to be Edmonton based. It is still in my plans, though I removed the wikilinks becuase it is still a long term project. I am working on a page for the Alberta provincials right now (will have it up tonight), and have actually found some information on the Calgary Jr B league, though not much. Not enough, unfortunately. The league is still active, however it operates as an extension of Calgary Minor Hockey rather than an independent organization. One of their teams did with the Alberta title in 2005, however. Resolute 03:32, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

Since we are on the topic of Western Canadian Jr. B... I see that Airdrie and Okotoks are good enough for articles... but what is wrong with the Red Deer Vipers??? At 37-0-0-1, they aren't good enough? jk... wouldn't hurt though. I am currently puttering across a lot of the Junior articles I've created and am trying to improve them one-by-one... as well, I am researching and building OLA pages... Yeah... they both definately have an agenda. Luckily, an Admin as already looked at his accusations and deemed them without weight, that they were just harrassing me to try and get rise in hope of getting what they want -- and he has already advised me on how to protect myself (not to say suggestions from the guys in the WP would hurt -- thanks by the way). I've personally reviewed the personal attacks article and unless I call both of them a "jerk" a ridiculous amount of times, use it with malicious intent, or use it as a roorback, I have not commited a personal attack. The only reason I am not responding to it openly outside of the WikiProject is that we are trying to avoid what they are trying to start... everyone in the WP knows I am a blue collar worker with my nose to the grindstone and that I don't speak up unless I absolutely believe that an injustice has been done... as long as the WP and the related Admins know my effort and goodwill, Rob and the Gerbil can stalk and follow me all they want... It would appear that Robert is very firm in his beliefs. Someone also put one of his articles up for AfD, which may or may not be a bad faith nom as a result of this situation. Personally, I believe that it will blow over, and will let the process run its course. At any rate, the merge nom has spurred me to start a Jr B article as a test case to show what could be offered. In your talking about the deal or no deal article for deletion you were rude about the people who have actually put work in to the page, the contestants on the show and about the people who watch it. I see were you voted to have this deleted, could you explain why as it makes no sense to get rid of very important article since surgery is one matter recovery is another. Western Canada Junior C & D

Do you have any knowledge of any Junior C or D leagues east of Ontario... through Hockey Canada documents... I know they exist... but I don't know by what name... the only two I've found are the Noralta Junior Hockey League and the Saskatchewan Junior C Hockey League. DMighton 17:12, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

Oops... I forgot... the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League and the Manitoba Major Junior Hockey League... they are both sub-junior "b" leagues. Also, the league known as the Keystone Junior Hockey League seems to be changing its name to the Manitoba Junior B Hockey League. DMighton 18:09, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

There are many Jr C leagues around, but I doubt any are notable enough for inclusion. Due to lesser population, I think the cutoff for western Canada is about Jr B. I know that the Calgary Minor Hockey Association operates the Calgary Jr C Hockey League, but at best it would belong in an article about the association itself. Ok, well... this is to tickle my curiosity then... I want to just do article pages for the leagues with no indy pages for the teams... Could you tell about some of these leagues or where I can get the info. If it is just too pathetic... I can always JUST include them on the "Hockey Choose-Your-Province" Article. But I want to research these, you can help too if you want... but I really want to... I'm a bit of a completist... Most of those team names coincide with communities/communty associations in Calgary, so I think it is safe to assume that Calgary Jr C is not notable enough for Wikipedia. I just deleted it also - the standard for a web link is that it has to materially aid the reader in understanding the subject material of the article that contains the link. I do not believe the WHL uses a farm system. Listed players are placed on BCHL, AJHL, SJHL and MJHL teams, or even bantam teams, but there are no firm associations. Resolute 03:27, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Canadian cities

No city in Canada conducts its own separate official census. Cities use a variety of data to come up with their own annual estimates, but these are approximations which an encyclopedia that relies on verifiability of sources cannot treat as definitive replacements for the census. Nobody in the discussion implied that any city consciously lies about its estimates, but simply that their data-collecting methods are geared toward producing estimates. No city in Canada has ever actually done an official census-style manual count of every resident within its city limits. Even Calgary's much-vaunted cracking of the one million residents barrier earlier this summer was based on a statistical approximation of the city's birth, death, inflow and outflow rates, not an actual head count. I think it can go either way, but I tend to agree. The SJHL Broncos were definitely a distinct franchise relative to the WHL Broncos. I would probably go with what you suggest. Resolute 03:54, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

I did not watch the game (the WHL tilt on SHAW TV was far better, IMO), but I have seen the highlights. McGeough blowing such a call does not give frustrated fans the right to trump Wikipedia's policies: WP:BLP and WP:NPA. Founding of Flin Flon Bombers

The information in the Flin Flon Bombers article contradicts the information in the Spokane Flyers article about when the Bombers were founded. I'm sure the Bombers exists before 1967, but I do not know if they continually existed, while shifting leagues. Please let me know what you can find. Flibirigit 00:54, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

I am certain the Bombers history predates the WCHL, as my grandfather played for them in the early 50s. Whether it is continuous or not, I am not certain, and will definitely have to check it out. It is extremely likely that the Bombers predated the WCHL, and simply shifted from the SJHL like most other Saskatchewan teams did. The conflict with the Spokane Flyers exists because I used the WCHL franchise date for the Bombers rather than the team's original franchise date. I'm going to clarify that in the article. I am undecided if the infobox should say the Bombers existed from 1927 or from 1967 though. Resolute 05:44, 22 November 2006 (UTC)

POV and not a nickname

The "universal prefix"? A POV based opinion does not remove a POV concern. One could site any number of names that any number of players have been called at one time or another. A city, or in this case, newspaper, suffering from jilted lover syndrome does not qualify this as a nickname. Resolute 02:54, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Where is this definition of what is a nickname and what isn't? Maybe I should have referred to it when creating the field in the template, instead of linking it to an entire Wikipedia page, whose definition is this: A nickname is a short, clever, cute, derogatory, or otherwise substitute name for a person or thing's real name ... A nickname is sometimes considered desirable, symbolising a form of acceptance, but can often be a form of ridicule. Your argument that "A city, or in this case, newspaper, suffering from jilted lover syndrome does not qualify this as a nickname" is full of holes - this article is from the Calgary Sun. The article was reprinted in the Calgary Sun, but Zeisberger is not a Calgary Sun writer. It is a SunMedia story originating from another paper. Not that this is terribly relevent. I stand by my comment: just because one paper says something does not make it a nickname. In this case it should be especially obvious to anyone but someone allowing their own feelings regarding Pronger to enter the equasion. Resolute 03:54, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Oh, I think it's pretty relavent. You discounted something because you thought the person was being a homer, and it turns out that the person has no personal affilitation with the Oilers. One person is not saying this; the entire city of Edmonton is saying it. If this is the Resolute from HFboards, I am sure you have heard the "move over Peter Puck, move over Mike Comrie" banter over the last few months. There is always a public enemy #1 in Edmonton, and that title now belongs to Chris Pronger. This is just one article that says so, I could find more that say the same thing. Actually, I discounted it because it is a POV statement, and not a nickname, exactly as I said. I am also quite aware of the opinion of Oiler fans. I've been reverting their vandalism on this article for months now. I reverted your edit because I have never ONCE heard anyone refer to Pronger regularally as "Public Enemy #1 in Edmonton", thus, IMO, is not a nickname. Where is this definition of a nickname you keep referring to? Take a look at the nickname page on Wikipedia to see just how broad a category "nickname" encompasses. A nickname is something that a player becomes better known as (ie. ROCKET Richard) or what the fans chant/call him, (ie. Eddie the Eagle, CuJo, etc.). Public Enemy #1 in Edmonton does not qualify as a nickname because he is not commonly known as that, it's more of a title than anything. Believe me, I am well aware of the situation, and why Oiler fans are so upset. I've never once gotten on the case of an Oiler fan for being upset at Pronger. In the context of Wikipedia, however, random means of expressing that frustration almost always violate the site's policies.

The fact is, you dont know what Pronger would have done had Lowe not traded him. He most certantly did not break his contract before the trade, so your statement is patently false, and thoughts on what he would have done if still an Oiler at the start of this season are the same type of baseless speculation as that of why he (or she) requested the trade in the first place. Most fans - even Flames fans like myself - can sympathize with Oiler fans over what Pronger did. But the fact is, he wasnt the first player to ever request a trade, and he wont be the last. Ok, you are right in that he did not break the contract. But you can't deny that he had every intention to, given the opportunity. The fact that lowe didn't want to waste 6.25M in cap space per year, plus have no Pronger/Pronger trade return to start the season shouldn't mean he is any better than Yashin. Yashin asked for a trade, and was told to suit up for the season, which he didn't do the first time 'round. Pronger wasn't asked to suit up, because lowe has experience with holdouts, and knew he'd be better off just to move on ASAP - turn over a new leaf. That shouldn't make pronger any better than Yashin, because by all accounts, he was not going to even live in the city this year. He had no house! This is not "baseless speculation" - this part is fact. The speculation, if any, is that the player with no house in his team's city, is not going to play for said team in the upcoming season. The template for all teams is a good idea. Also, the main reason for me doing the upcoming games was because it would've taken me a long time to get the full schedule on there. I am relatively new to editing Wikipedia, so I just went with the shortest way that I knew how to do. If you wish to edit that and put the full team schedule in there, feel free to do so.

I think we should get a couple people for every team to work on that page. It would be easier if we only have to focus on our local team, and it would be nice if we could get the season for all 30 teams up. I am from Long Beach, California, and the Los Angeles Kings are my local team. I was also thinking about doing the page for the Anaheim Ducks at a later date. WCHL vs. WOJHL

Hey, I've been doing some extensive research on the Southern Ontario Junior A Hockey League. For two seasons, 1968-69 and 1969-70, they were a renegade league called the Western Ontario Junior A Hockey League. I was reading that during at least one of those two seasons the champions of the WOJHL and the WCHL faced off in a National title game. Ever heard of this? If not, could you look into it... the WHL still exists, the SOJHL doesn't... lol. If you have, could you please shed some light? DMighton 22:39, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

It would appear that the WHL doesnt consider this a very important event, as it was never mentioned in the WHL's history articles (which havent been brought back online since whl.ca was redesigned), and the media guide makes no mention of it. The Flin Flon Bombers website makes no mention if it either. It might have just been something done between the two teams without the involvement of the leagues? I am not an admin, so cannot delete an article. However, I am not convinced the site satisfies WP:WEB, which is why I tagged it. If an admin disagrees with me that it is a speedy candidate, I will accept that decision. Are there multiple, non-trivial reliable sources that would establish the site's notability? Has it won a notable award from a well known publication? These are things that would help the article's cause, and certantly cause me to retract my speedy tag. I have not yet found such. Not a problem. At the top of the article page, you will see a Move option. You can simply click on that link, and the new page will give you the option to move the article to a new title. You can correct the spelling mistake in this fashion. The resulting move will turn the old title into a redirect to the new article, which is not an issue. Hope this helps. MLB season articles

Hi. I understand the concept of what you're doing with edits like this but the reality is that 2005 in baseball and 2005 MLB season share far too much content to be separate articles right now. They need to be merged somewhere ASAP. Otherwise, large chunks of content will be added to one article by one person and to the other article by another person and merging will become more and more difficult. I have no problem splitting them if there's enough content for both articles but I'd prefer that a plan for the split be in place before the split occurs. Game six of the 2004 Stanley Cup Finals. Gelinas had a puck deflect off his skate late in the third period of a tie game, that from at least one angle suggested the puck had crossed the goal line before Tampa's goalie pulled the puck out. The play was never reviewed at the time, though the league tried to claim it was (impossible for a proper review to have taken place given the short time between the apparent goal and when the next faceoff occured). Western Major Junior Championship

We don't seem to have an article for the Monseigneur Athol Murray Trophy which was the Western Canada Major Junior Championship post 1970... until I do not know when. Any thoughts? DMighton 13:11, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

I honestly don't think it was ever awarded. Hockey Canada's history section of their by-laws guide [10] says that the Athol Murray Trophy was to be awarded to the champions of Western Canada - however since there is only one league in Western Canada, the President's Cup (WHL) seems to have taken precidence. It's companion trophy, the George Richardson Memorial Trophy appears to have no longer been awarded after 1972, suggesting the concept was abandoned when the Memorial Cup tournament went to three teams. I can't confirm it, but I doubt the trophy was ever actually awarded. Its concept might make a decent mention on the Hockey Canada article in a section regarding the realignment of junior hockey in 1970 though. Resolute 16:31, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

I updated Template:OHL and Template:Defunct OHL to try to simplify things. Template:OHL contains all teams past and current for the OHL. Template:Defunct OHL contains all past teams from the OMJHL and the OHA Junior A. That template may need to be renamed.

That is a really good question. I would like to add them, as it would allow the list to be both complete, and consistant with the others. I havent added defunct Jr A teams on any other article, but many of these OHA Jr A teams were the highest level of Junior hockey at the time, I believe, so should be added as being equivalent of Major-Junior. However, that will likely make this a really long list. It might make sense to split the article into two: active and defunct as I did with the baseball lists. I would suggest expanding the defunct teams and seeing how long the article gets, then deciding from there. If we hope to get it to featured list status, as I would like for all, then we can't use the template as a part of the article itself. Resolute 03:10, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

My point was McDonald & Peplinski were co-captains, Tim Hunter alternate captain. The anon user's point was McDonald, Peplinski & Hunter were tri-captains. We both came up with conflicting sources. Though a compromise was reached (on the Flames page), I still think I'm correct. Think you could convince that anon-user? PS- I'm checking out, Infobox proposals. At the risk of reopening the edit war, I've gone ahead and removed Hunter, as you are absolutely correct. I've also added a citation to the Flames Media Guide, which, frankly, should trump most other sources. The Flames themselves did not consider Hunter a captain on that team, but an alternate captain. Hi Resolute,

I agree that this subject does not seem notable. It doesn't seem notable to me either. But according to wikipedia guidlines, notability is not subjective and the subject's inclusion in the multiple, independent, reliable published sources does satisfy the current criteria. Requiring that Ashley Leitao be included in sources that establish her notability separate from the Canadian Idol show is an additional requirement that I don't see anywhere in Wikipedia policy or guidelines. Also, you say that failed game show contestants are not notable. Usually they are not because they don't satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for notability, but this subject does. My vote for "keep" is in line with current guidelines, but several other editors along with me have the same reservations as you do about how these guidelines apply to reality show contestants. A discussion has been started at User_talk:Ohconfucius#Ashley_Leitao to come up with something that we could propose to the larger community for an amendment to the notability guidelines. If you have any ideas how we could identify types of people who must meet stronger standards for notability than is currently required by the guideline, please feel free to contribute to the discussion. Someone recently posted to the talk page of the 2006-07 Buffalo Sabres page asking about adding the team's logo to the page. I would like to see the logo on the page myself, but I ask whether or not such an addition would violate Fair Use. I really don't know, and I don't want to add it if it will. Peter Maher

Maher isn't in the HHOF. It's that simple. You way wish that he was, you may want to write a letter to the HHOF asking him to be inducted, you may think it's a travesty that he isn't ... none of which changes the fact that he is not in the HHOF. If you want to change the section header so that it would include people other than HHOF inductees, then that's something you can discuss with the Wikipedia community (or just make the changes and see if anyone challenges them). But as it is, the section is for hall of famers, and your personal opinion that someone who received an award from the HHOF should also be included is just that -- your personal opinion -- and not something you should try to pass as fact or as a consensus reached by the Wikipedians. --Walor 17:13, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

NHL season template

Hi! I was wondering if you could possibly make the conferance syntax optional or add a league syntax. I tried to add this template to a non NHL team season page but it didn't display league. 2005-06 Calgary Flames season

I was just getting some work done on the corresponding Canucks season article by copying the Flames article and noticed something. On the player stats seciton, at the bottom of it is a list called All Traded Players. I just want to clarify what that represents. Yeah, that is what it represents. I've been using the Flames Media Guide as my primary source for the player stats, and it piles all of the departed players together into the All Traded Players category. I may expand that later, but for now felt that was adequate. Resolute 13:27, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. I gathered the role wasn't of key importance, as there would otherwise be a greater number of biographies to draw from if he was an important member of the Kings council. Yes, I have read your argument, and no, I still do not find it changes my mind. I did not define what type of prisoner Walid Said Bin Said Zaid was, I stated that simply being a prisoner is no sign of notability. Only the lead statement of that article is about Walid, the rest of the article reads like an essay that has questionable relevance in a biography. Montreal Expos merge tag

Hi. I have restored the merge tag. Although I personally do not favour the proposed merge, a merge has been proposed, and the discussion is ongoing. The tag does not mean that there is consensus for a merge, simply that a merge has been proposed. As per WP:MERGE, the use of the tag is appropriate. Given the many many times this issue has been raised over the past few years, and the numerous editors who have spoken in favour of the merger in the past, it is premature to state at this stage that there is "[c]learly no consensus for a merge", especially since the merger was proposed less than a week ago. This is not a WP:SNOW situation, and the use of the merge tag does not depend on the state of the discussion on the talk page. I guess I would just add this: as you can see Talk:Montreal Expos#Previous merge discussions, this debate has been going in mind-numbing circles for a few years now, despite the clear consensus in the 2005 AfD discussion. Let's just do this current debate properly -- give notice, allow for proper consultation -- so that at the end, assuming that the consensus is to maintain the separate Expos article (which I assume it will), we can have some degree of finality to this debate. We can't stop people from raising the issue again in the future, but at least then we would have two formal processes (one AfD, one Merge), both of which rejected a merge, that we could point to. Current news

Is this something that was reached at WP:HOCKEY? I remember being told that all of them should be hidden till the season starts or at least till we're close to the season starting (excluding draft and the such). Or is this something that you see as being part of the season where as some of the other editors don't agree. I really don't care that much either way, only reason I hid it was because most of the other teams have it hidden as well. Bringing this up at WP:HOCKEY probably isn't a good idea right now, anyway...still some stuff that needs to be settled that it seems hasn't been, or it's at least not clear. Also, do you mind if I make some edits at List of Calgary Flames players? I know you're currently working on it and some editors extrememly dis-like when people come in and do something to a work-in-progress, so I figured I'd ask first. National Hockey League awards

Hi, I noticed that you will be working on National Hockey League awards, which will be tricky. I think it would be best to turn it into a chart because it is MUCH easier to pass an FL than an FA. Well, as part of another FT I'm working on, someone (not me) made this page, which summarizes the topic and is a current FLC (I think it is heading towards a pass) so you could start with that and make the columns: Award/Trophy, Criteria, Year it was first awarded (better title needed), Recent Winner(s). The images are optional, but in the WWE champions page, it used to have an image of each champion, but somebody in the FLC requested that they be remove. Deletion log history

Hey Resolute!

I was perusing your deletion logs, and you're doing a fine job in deleting speedy pages. The only thing that I'd advise you on is to fill in the deletion summary with more than just what's automatically in the box for speedy pages. The reason for this is that you may accidentally leave the text of a copyright vio or an attack page in the deletion summary and thus in the deletion log. Only a dev can alter the deletion log, so it's better safe than sorry and now's the time to start building good habits. There are a couple scripts available that'll provide a drop down summary option.

Archiving request

Hi! I'm one of the WP:HOCKEY/SWEDEN editors.

Firstly, just wanted to say grats to the adminship (is it a cyberspaceship?). Respect. :)

Also, I would like to politely request - you or someone else more experienced than me - to create Archive13 for WT:HOCKEY (or Archive14 if the project is superstitious). Talkpage has grown a lot since last time (see table. I know how to do tables anyway...) and I guess some old topics should be cleaned at least when talkpage is twice the size of its largest archive page. I would do the process myself, but I'm not really sure how just yet, and the talk page is getting painfully slow on my old system. Didn't really want to post this to the project talkpage itself. Whenever you have the time. Or, forward it to someone else if not. And thanks, either way!

The Puppetmastaz

Why, instead of speedy deleting "The Puppetmastaz" stub, didn't you just drop a warning on my talk page, and then delete it in... say two days instead of the few hours when I was sleeping ? The band is very notable, in fact I wrote the stub because of an article in a nationwide newspaper in my country (France) that mentionned them as very notable, which hardily seems the case for all obscure bands mentionned in wikipedia ... So, please indicate me how I should recreate the page to conform with wikipedia's policy because I am a bit puzzled. Pointing to a verifiable source on why they are notable directly in the first revision would be enough or not ? I do not want to engage in a long discussion about the functionning of Wikipedia since you are more an expert than me on the matter. However, may I point out that the introduction of the Criteria Policy for Speedy Deletion" page you cited mention: "Before nominating an article for speedy deletion, consider whether it could be improved or reduced to a stub; if so, speedy deletion is probably inappropriate. Contributors sometimes create articles over several edits, so try to avoid deleting a page too soon after its creation if it appears incomplete. Users nominating a page for speedy deletion should specify which criteria the page meets, and consider notifying the page's creator.". None of which you have done, have you ? Plus, I am not creating a page about the minor band in the neighbourhood: the german wikipedia already as a page on them. Your doubts about the incompleteness of my articles were funded (hence the stub tag), and I thank you for pointing on them. I will adress the issues so the article may have a clean start.
