Your userpage[edit]

Hi Riana. I think your page is good and I wouldn't touch it. I have just finished all of my subpages that would be viewed (I am a bit of a geek when it comes to my userpage). Harrison-HB4026 10:38, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Recent Vandalism[edit]

Hi, was just checkn Recent Changes on Userpages and noticed that your page had just been vandalised. Came across the last (or so) line in ur userpage which has the word 'sucks' linking to the article on Pop Music. Was wondering whether this was intended or if had got through previous vandalism efforts... And so wanted to bring it to ur attn, if neccessary. Ajcfreak 10:39, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, no issues. Will told me bout it already. I did see that you'd reverted the Vandalism - though I was unsure if that particular link had sneaked in from a previous Vandalism effort or something... anyways I'm lookin thru the Soundtrack of Wikipedians now which Will provided, quite helpfully. Thanks for the reply. I have noticed your work earlier and it seemed good. Small wonder then, that yer userpage got vandalised! Ajcfreak 11:14, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Admin coaching (1)[edit]

Hi!

While my initial plan was to answer the Qs in shifts, I took a break from studying, and ended up answering everything in one go. I've completed all the questions on User:Xcentaur/Admin_coaching. I couldn't really understand what to write in the optional comment bit, I'd said whatever I'd wanted to say within the answers itself, so thats left blank :S

Could you have a look whenever you have time? Is it bad to leave that field blank? Erm, I probably should have put these questions in the next section, questions to you, shouldn't I? :P

I get rambly and verbose sometimes in long paras, thats one thing I'm concerned about in my answers. Hope you don't fall asleep reading em.

Looking forward to your comments. I appreciate it :)

Thank you,

xC | 12:10, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wow! Just a cursory glance, but those look like grrrrreat answers to me :) I'll have a closer look tomorrow, k? Cheers, – Riana 12:30, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unprotection of Dorothea Dix[edit]

Greetings! I just noticed you unprotected Dorothea Dix and I'd have to say I disagree with your assessment. It meets the criteria for indefinite semi-protection: Biographies subject to vandalism and/or POV-pushing that aren't widely watchlisted. If you look at the history, I'm one of the few people reverting vandalism on that page when it wasn't protected. I've also noticed that most of the IP addresses that do the vandalizing belong to school systems--Dorothea Dix is a popular subject in school history books. Kids get on their school computers and vandalize the page when they're reading up on her. I'd be willing to wait for the vandalism to begin again and ask for semi-protection once more. Thoughts? Cheers, --Rkitko (talk) 16:01, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Capade[edit]

Hello Riana, I've tried to create an article Capade a bunch of times. I followed the instructions about copyright issues as closely as I could and again it didn't work. Then I got suspended, my page is full of text right now and I have no idea what's going on. What you could help me with is tell me how I can check if the copyright approval for the article Capade has been approved so I can go ahead and make this article. please let me know thank you very much Nikola —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Nikola Tucakov (talkcontribs).

Many Thanks:[edit]

Thanks for signing the petition for me to return from my Wikibreak/Retirement. It was unexpected & I appreciate your kind words. I'm planning to stay away from conflict for a bit, so don't expect to see me around any talk pages etc. I know we've had our arguements in the past, but I'm glad we're still friends on here. Nice new userpage BTW. I like the happy gold guy. ;) Anyway, thanks again for being there. :) Spawn Man 23:46, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi!

You've only been here a year? Wow!

Happy WikiBirthday!!

I've replied to your comments, thanks for looking through it so quick. Also got a few questions, but this time I added them on that page itself.

Thanks, and happy editing!

I noticed you shifted the old questions and replies to a seperate page. Good idea. I'd replied to your questions (the ones in green) under them, please do have a look whenever you're free.
Thanks for answering my questions about being blocked, I was worried about that one. Also looking forward to your comments on my answers overall :)
I know I keep saying this, but thanks for taking the time out for doing all this :)

Wikibreak?[edit]

What is this concept you speak of, "wikibreak"? Seriously, I'm currently "partially active" on Wikipedia, which I guess for me means "active enough to send people messages and check my watchlist, but not active enough to write any new articles recently". You have a good idea about rotating your picture every few weeks. I'll try to think of something for your poetry page, but don't expect anything until at least next week. --Kyoko 13:29, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Response to "SpuriousQ"[edit]

Excellent! First I'll need to update my co-nomination a bit first: SpuriousQ has been busy enough that it's out of date already (which is a good thing I guess). Acalamari 16:26, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Are you sure? You're the one who wanted to nominate SpuriousQ in the first place after all: I was just asking you if I could co-nominate. Acalamari 16:32, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As you wish. :) Acalamari 16:36, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
"Princess Bride moment"? Acalamari 16:40, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No need to apologize. :) I haven't seen that film, but "As you wish", is also a line said by characters in various computer games. Acalamari 16:45, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've updated my nomination, and inserted it into your sandbox. I must say that I am amused by your current co-nomination. :) Acalamari 16:53, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • I'll keep that in mind then. :) Anyway, I'm glad you've improved your co-nomination, though I must say, it would have been interesting had you left the old one in! Acalamari 17:32, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
      • Ah, you beat me this time: I was just coming round to inform you of that. :) Acalamari 18:08, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Help required, if free[edit]

Hi. While RC patrolling today, I came across the AIIMS, (a top medical Institute in India) article which had major chunks of possibly damaging/controversial material removed by an anon IP 210.7.93.119. I reverted the edit and then realised that much of the deleted content was actually unverifiable and sounded like a personal commentary on a raging issue. Hence, I dove(or is it dived?!) in head-first and kinda re-wrote the article as much as possible - reformatting the citations and commenting out REALLY harmful, unverifiable stuff. Now the user of the anon IP has left a message [1]. And I've replied to that user [2]. I would like your advise. I definitely do not want you to "step in" or anything. Just advise... as in - did I do somethin wrong? Or was there somethin that I could've done better? Am asking you cos you're one who's really caught my eye. :) Don't worry - me not sitting and worrying. Reply as late as ya wanna... aJCfreak yAkBAk 18:55, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks... And I REALLY can't say that loudly enough. I didn't even know that there was somethin such as WP:NLT or stuff like that. Your support has encouraged me, if not anythin else. But I guess there's nobody on that side who's got the time/will to re-write that entire article. Looks like I'm gonna be spending quite sometime on it. Anyways, thanks once again! aJCfreak yAkBaK 18:38, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Userpage content[edit]

Are users allowed to put up details of flame throwers on their talk pages?

Ahem - User talk:MikeyJ08

Came across this during RCP, thought I'd let you know, an admin's warning is usually more effective in dealing with disputes on what editors can or cannot have in their userspace. Side thought, if I was to send a message about inappropriate content on the talk page, what would be an appropriate message to this user? And what policy should I cite for the same?

Thanks,xC | 19:12, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, thanks for having a look. What a day yesterday!
400 edits, my first barnstar, flamethrowers on user talks, 5 reports on AIV, and discovering a page dealing with how dashes are supposed to be used...

Talk page image[edit]

Thanks for fixing the image on my talk page. I acually got the idea from User talk:Khoikhoi But that user does not have the same page layout as mine. So it may have looked like the image was going out of the page. Some people have a widescreen montior others have a normal square montior. So it may look different from everyones point of view. Other people use firefox browser others use internet explorer or safari and the images may look different. You are a genius. I could have not do that myself without copying the code from another user. Thanks Riana. Take care. King Lopez Contribs 02:32, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

List of inventions[edit]

Hi!

These pages - List of United States inventions, List of Chinese inventions.

  • The page is an unneccessary list of inventions. The invention is the intellectual property of the inventor, not the country. Nationalism and patriotic tendency is all well and good, but the fact remains that the country cannot take credit for the individual's work.
  • Secondly, there is a line - Other things which are considered by various authors to have been first discovered, discovered contemporaneously with other civilizations, discovered separately after other civilizations, or simply used by the Chinese:. I believe we are supposed to deal with facts. On these two pages, the inventions are of such a nature that absolute credit cannot be given to any one person. For example, versions of the Parachute have existed for centuries in various forms, it cannot be claimed as an exclusively Chinese design.
  • Lastly, the pages are difficult if not impossible to maintain - red links, newer technological advances, and uncovering of old history are all constantly redefining inventions. Newer inventions come up on a daily basis, and establishing their notability and/or impact in the years to come is a difficult task indeed. Constant skirmishes over content between IPs is also common.

My question is this - is AfD appropriate for this? Or shall I first goto their respective portals and try to get someone to have a look? As an editor, what do you think about these two pages?

Regards,xC | 06:10, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, yes, I just read two discussions related to lists... things do get heated sometimes... okay, both those pages are on my To Do List.xC | 09:32, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sadiqabad[edit]

Hi!

I came across this page on RCP - Sadiqabad.

The page was a mess, I did a massive cleanup(before, after). While some of the content may have some encyclopedic merit, most of it is tooting for the famous families mentioned there. Also, there are no references at all and the page as a whole is unverifiable.

I'd like to add here that Jimbo set a good example by blanking Ron Jeremy for being wholly unsourced (this edit, talk page note).

However, its clear that someone somewhere has spent a lot of time on this article. Removing statements that have no references would reduce this article to a substub. It hurts to remove someone's hard work.

What do I do? Its obvious that this is a less-visited (if at all) page. I'd appreciate your guidance in this.

Best,xC | 07:18, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, thing is its usually an IP although I think the IP and another editor are the same person. Either way, I'll drop a note about notability and stub out whatever in the article isn't up to standard. xC | 09:33, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi!

Thanks for the questions, I just completed replying to the vandalism test, please do have a look whenever you're free.

Also, I just realised that it might be better if I ask you all these questions on that page itself, otherwise I'll end up cluttering your user talk. I've come across some strange things on RCP, wanted to ask you about those as well... I'll post em there.

Cheers!xC | 10:05, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, your comments about my sig, the comments mean a lot to me, I asked User:Phaedriel for the code and she designed it and I made one or two changes and began using it, its her I should thank, and you as well! Again, thank you! — The Sunshine Man 10:24, 18 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi[edit]

Hey there,

No, this isn't yet another question, don't worry :)

Well not exactly - I posted another four questions on User:Xcentaur/Admin coaching, please have a look whenever you have time.

I apologize if it seems I'm turning that page into a question-answer forum. Honestly, these are questions related to problems I've seen crop up multiple times. You have enough work as it is, I don't want to add more to it, so I'm making sure I don't post any one-off things (except the flamethrower ... that doesn't happen often) or anything that can be looked at by any random editor.

Erm, perhaps these answers are somewhat like template to-dos, so if something of the same sort comes up again in the future, I know what to do. At the moment, in a few situations, I'm not all that sure about what should be done, but with your help thats changing :) Frequently on RCP its the same sort of things again and again, so any guidance on these problems would be a huge help.

Thank you,

Happy editing!

I'll think of something furry and huggable, but first I'm off to do some (mindless) mainspace editing. I'm not far off from 5000 edits, you know. I still need to think of a poem for you too. You know, if you ever make your own greeting, maybe you should use a Koala. --Kyoko 11:45, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am shocked! They never show koalas on the rampage on TV... ;) --Kyoko 11:52, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I can understand not showing wild koalas in tourism spots on TV, but this behaviour doesn't even get shown on Animal Planet (not sure if you get this channel in Australia). --Kyoko 11:59, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe it's a money thing, not wanting to scare away tourists and their money. I never knew that koalas could be aggressive without provocation. I can understand them reacting if they felt cornered or threatened. I'd be scared too if I saw an animal acting like that. --Kyoko 12:14, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Even so, I don't think I'll be inflicting that joke on anyone anytime soon.
Since I'm already awake, I'm going to get some breakfast now, OK? Thanks for teaching me about koalas, and have a good day! --Kyoko 12:46, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Refs[edit]

Hey Riana. Quick question; do all references need a "Retrieved on" date? In the 50 Cent page, none of them have any, although one editor says they should have it since all FAs do. Spellcast 16:14, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Your edit to User:Kelly Martin[edit]

I agree that it is usually not a done thing to edit other people's user page without their permission.

I also agree that using a user's talk page would be the courteous thing to do.

But, (isn't there always a but) I didn't want to create any fuss. It looks like there is frequently a lot of (I can't think of a good word to describe it, "fuss" maybe. But I don't exactly like that term because it is belittling of the "fussers" which I do not intend) on the talk page and I didn't want to cause any.

I left the text unchanged, it continued to say: "For more righteous indignation, see my blog", I removed only the offending link.

I see a user linking to their own blog on which they select "Today's Worst Wikipedian in the World" and go on to name one as violating the word and intent of the Wikipedia policies against harassing another user. Such a link has no place in an encylopedia and does nothing to forward the purpose of "creating and distributing a multilingual free encyclopedia of the highest quality to every single person on the planet in their own language" Uncle uncle uncle 21:07, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll do as you've suggested however.

Thanks. :-) Persistent, this one... any idea how to get carandbikeforum added to the spam blacklist? --YFB ¿ 05:33, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Er, scratch that - just followed the link in the warning I left. Cheers for the speedy block. --YFB ¿ 05:36, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

re: Knight Whitefire[edit]

Oh, dang - I just looked at those edits and yeah, I may have been too hasty in undoing his work, which seem to be perfectly acceptable. The fact that he was removing whole sections and most of (if not all) his edits were in talk space kind put me off at first. I guess I was just overreacting. Hey there[edit]

Hi!

This is related to one of the questions I had left on User:Xcentaur/Admin coaching... could you have a look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/In-N-Out Burger secret menu?

Thanks,xC | 07:18, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No problem:) Happy editing,xC | 07:21, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Capade Response[edit]

Thank you for responding Riana, So I created the Nikola Tucakov/Capade page as you requested with some images in it. I made it quite basic just so I see that the copyright issues get resolved. I have all the copyright for the images and any of the text that comes from the www.capademusic.com Let me know if there is anything else I need to do. thank you very much Nikola Tucakov 08:23, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

No, no[edit]

Ack, no Riana darling, I was just trying to be funny. Seriously, I quite enjoy people taking out their frustrations or whatever, I wasn't annoyed, not in the slightest. Apologies for the confusion, I'm sorry. Moreschi Talk 11:06, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Template question[edit]

Hey Riana, I hope all is well :) I ran across a template while cleaning up a page - Template:StrategyWiki. It provides links to an external Wiki, which looks very small but I can't say for sure how many editors they have. I guess it's some strategy site for video games. The template provides both a link to the games article on that Wiki, and to StrategyWiki itself. Looking in the history, it seems to have been created by people who are active users at StrategyWiki. I smell a bit of conflict of interest, and wonder if the links/template are even appropriate. Some advice? :) Thanks Wikidan829 13:53, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah I saw the policy. It talks about open wikis where they have a substantial history and enough editors, horribly vague. Thanks for the links to the others, I did a quick look:
  • WowWiki has 130,000 users
  • Wikia has 131,000 users
  • BattletechWiki has 145 users
  • StrategyWiki has 7811 users
  • BoardGameGeek (couldn't find stats)

I didn't look at the others, but StrategyWiki was created and mostly edited by User:Prod, who there happens to be a sysop on StrategyWiki by that name. I just want to make sure this is all legit. Also, even if the template is legit, should it provide a separate external link to the main web page, that is generic and has no relevance to the article? Thanks! Great, thanks! Sleep well :) Wikidan829 14:40, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

another deletion request![edit]

Hi Riana, Thanks for your quick reply! I'm still confused to be honest. Someone else has now requested a deletion?? How can I revert back to my actual entry so that these deletion requests by vandals don't show up. Sorry if its a simple question, I'm just baffled by all this jargon :-) Thanks Tinylee 16:58, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
