Welcome![edit]

Hello, Roarkstata, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Shalor and I work with the Wiki Education Foundation; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

Response[edit]

Hi! What type of help do you need on your article? Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 20:56, 19 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Response[edit]

I'm having trouble with the template infobox treaty. How do I add an image that is not on Wikipedia currently? Also, what is the code format to add words that link to another page in the infobox (for example, the language the treaty is in or the countries that signed it)

A tag has been placed on User:Roarkstata/Buganda Agreement (1900) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, and/or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free web hosting service. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. • Note: I suggest moving the page to Draft space. It's improper to use a subpage of your userpage to work on articles, and the redirect is also unencyclopedic. Thanks. Jusdafax (talk) 01:27, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi Jusdafax, can you elaborate on this - per WP:UPYES, it's generally accepted that the userspace can be used as a place for works in progress. We do encourage students to copy only what they need, however this student is planning on revamping the entire page. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 13:22, 20 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright problem on Buganda Agreement (1900)[edit]

Your additions to the above article include passages copied verbatim or nearly verbatim from a non-free source. This was detected by automatic plagiarism detection software. For copyright reasons, some of your contribution was deleted. Please review the Plagiarism and Copyright training module before proceeding further. Thanks. — Diannaa (talk) 12:26, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you Diannaa! Roarstata, closely paraphrasing content is seen as a copyright issue and plagiarism, even if you were to include the original source as a citation. Always be careful when writing article content - a good way to avoid doing this is to take notes while reading and write your article from those notes.
Unless the material is explicitly marked as falling into the public domain or was released under a compatible Creative Commons license, it should be assumed that the content is copyrighted in a way that would prohibit it from being used verbatim elsewhere. It's always best to write things in your own words, as this can help prevent issues like this from arising. Definitely make sure that you review the module on plagiarism and copyright, thanks.
