Tagging articles & edit summaries

Hello, Robert,

When you tag a page for deletion (CSD, PROD or AFD), please mention what you are doing in the edit summary. You also should notify the page creator that an article they have created has been nominated for deletion. If you use Twinkle, the program will do this for you automatically once you set up your Preferences which makes things easy.

Also, it's best to archive your talk page when there are too many notices rather than blanking it. Just common practice here. If you have questions, please visit the Teahouse. Thank you! Liz Read! Talk! 21:42, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

Left an answer on your talk page regarding both topics. Best Robert Kerber (talk) 23:48, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

Restoring categories

Can you explain why you are restoring the parent category [[Category:Films based on novels]] when there is a subcategory included in the article (e.g, [[Category:Films based on Japanese novels]])? They were removed with an edit summary explaining that they were redundant.-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 00:26, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

Hello. Has there been a discussion consensus on the redundancy/deletion of parent categories, or is there a MOS saying so? I couldn't see why the existence of a subcategory should make the listing of its parent category dispensable, or why the latter should exclude the former. E.g. a listing of the category Japanese drama films hasn't made the listing of the parent category Japanese films redundant until now. Or has it? Thanks Robert Kerber (talk) 08:55, 27 February 2021 (UTC)

Categories (continued)

You archived my message before I could reply. When you ask me if I could point you to a discussion regarding the avoidance of redundancy in categories, Wikipedia:Categorization explains how categorization is supposed to work on Wikipedia. The point is to ensure that articles are categorized in a way that is most helpful to the reader. Including parent and top-level categories in articles isn't necessary. See Category:Films based on novels? The category is further split by location while still being part of the same category tree. Notice how many of the pages listed in the category are the ones you restored? The remainder are ones that could not be broken down into more specific categories (e.g the provenance of the novel is unknown). -- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 00:17, 2 March 2021 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for May 12

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Minoru Takase, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Crossroads. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:03, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

Notice

The article Other, Like Me: The Oral History of COUM Transmissions and Throbbing Gristle has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non notable documentary, appears to fail the requirements of WP: NFILM as all citations are merely database listings or just proof that the film exists. At least 2 reviews are needed and none were found in a BEFORE.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. The Horizon

Information icon Thank you for your edit to the disambiguation page Horizon (disambiguation). However, please note that disambiguation pages are not articles; rather, they are meant to help readers find a specific article quickly and easily. From the disambiguation dos and don'ts, you should:

  • Only list articles that readers might reasonably be looking for
  • Use short sentence fragment descriptions, with no punctuation at the end
  • Use exactly one navigable link ("blue link") in each entry
    • Only add a "red link" if used in existing articles, and include a "blue link" to an appropriate article
  • Do not pipe links (unless style requires it) – keep the full title of the article visible
  • Do not insert external links or references

Thank you. TJRC (talk) 15:54, 7 July 2021 (UTC)

I thought it appropriate as the red link concerned a film by a renowned director (Kaneto Shindo) and a future article on the film is not completely unlikely. 乾杯 Robert Kerber (talk) 16:13, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
Not a bad thought; but a disambiguation page isn't actually an article, it's a mechanism to route readers to specific articles about the topic when they share a name. Unless there's actually a page to direct the reader to for an item, DAB pages don't get an entry for that item; it's a dead-end for readers.
You could always write a stub on the film if it's notable (and my guess it is). And actually, now that you've identified the director and the film is mentioned in that article, we can include an entry (with the redlink you had) in addition to a blue-link to Kaneto Shindo. How's this? TJRC (talk) 16:56, 7 July 2021 (UTC)
Fine with me, thanks. 乾杯 Robert Kerber (talk) 17:15, 7 July 2021 (UTC)

@SunDawn: My pleasure. I think she is an undeservedly unknown and underrated character actress. 乾杯 Robert Kerber (talk) 06:27, 9 July 2022 (UTC)

I share your enthusiasm about this actress; though she never had any starring roles, every film she was in would have suffered from her absence. Guignolsan (talk) 20:43, 10 February 2023 (UTC)

@Bruxton: Thanks for your suggestion. A plot section will follow first as soon as I find the time. Regards Robert Kerber (talk) 07:02, 28 August 2022 (UTC)

Carmen’s Pure Love

I was surprised to see you reverted my small revision of the plot in your article about this film.

First of all, I’m aware of and extremely grateful for all the work you’ve done on Wikipedia to make Japanese more understandable to an english speaking public. I see I’ve read many of your articles and always to my profit.

For myself I don’t have your skills to create articles and can only add details here and there that may be useful:a famous actor or actress in a minor role missing from a cast listing, a lesser known but important film missing from a filmography… for your article in question I saw some language weaknesses I felt I could improve. I would appreciate it if you would look at the talk article I created there and see if on second thought you don’t agree with me. Guignolsan (talk) 21:10, 10 February 2023 (UTC)

Many thanks for your message, see my answer on said talk page. Best Robert Kerber (talk) 09:34, 11 February 2023 (UTC)

Your recent proD

Hello, I'm about to deproD your recent prod of Arupusu monogatari Yasei as I think the article might be improved or, at worst, redirected to Hara's page or, in the future, to a page about Oizumi eiga (not yet existing). Also, I would like to point out that you forgot to inform the creator of the page of that proD. As for contradictions between the two sources currently on the page, I can't help because there's one I can't access at the moment. Best, -MY, OH MY! (mushy yank) 00:05, 7 July 2023 (UTC)

User:Mushy Yank I do not agree with your decision and your explanation. You state that you think that the article might be improved, but do not state how. I started an discussion on this: [1] Robert Kerber (talk) 07:31, 7 July 2023 (UTC)

Yoshiya

Good evening. I invite you to accept the discussion in the topic I opened. I have temporarily canceled my redaction return as a compromise so that nothing would stop us from discussing this issue. Solaire the knight (talk) 18:45, 24 July 2023 (UTC)

Warning 24 july 2024

If I see any more such threats to get me banned with a veiled link to the rules and my blog log, I will contact the admins about your communication style. Including an explicit refusal to discuss when I even compromised for you. Please bear this in mind. And do not even try to remove this section as an invitation to participate in the discussion above. Solaire the knight (talk) 19:34, 24 July 2023 (UTC)

To make things short, I did contact an administrator myself. Please do not post on my talk page again which I might consider WP:HA. Robert Kerber (talk) 19:48, 24 July 2023 (UTC)
Please don't think that mere references to or threats to rules can be used as an argument. But if you yourself want to go directly to the confrontation, then okay. Solaire the knight (talk) 19:50, 24 July 2023 (UTC)

Information icon Hello, I'm 55go. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person on Ineko Arima, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source, so I removed it. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you! --55go (talk) 13:18, 5 August 2023 (UTC)

User:55go Your edit not only made the filmography invisible with no explanation covered by MOS:FILM and WP:CS, it also reinstated an incorrect quote/referencing. (And even IF referencing for each film listed were nescessary, a "more citations needed" template would be more useful than making the whole filmography invisible by comment tagging it.) I have started a discussion on this [here] Robert Kerber (talk) 13:34, 5 August 2023 (UTC)
