Video games are Addictive

[edit]

By Mr. Romanus Kanyanga 211049530

Video game addiction, also called “gaming" addiction is excessive use of computers and video games that interferes with daily life. Most adolescents like to spend at least part of their free time playing video games. But for some, what starts out as innocent recreation can become an addiction. Soon, people neglect everything just to play video games. This is becoming a common practice all around the world because video games just become more advanced and fun. What makes video games addictive? Consequently, games are designed to be just difficult enough to be truly challenging the player. The harder the game the more time the gamer will spend playing the game. There several "hooks" that are built into games with the intent of making them "addictive”.

The High Score, trying to beat high score can keep the player playing for long periods of time and this makes the game fun to play and players normally don’t stop until they beat the game. Discovery the exploration or discovery tactic is most often used in role-playing games. When the play discovers or reaches a new stage the normally want to finish the stage and this makes the playing period longer. Lack of parental control, parent don’t keep I eye on their children and they buy them games to keep them busy since they don’t they don’t have time to spend with their kids. Video games also satisfy basic physiological need and this also motivates players to play the games. Why people play video games?

Some player plays video games because they seek for control of a situation, and also to escape life pressure but this later on leads to addiction. People also play a lot of video games because they bored and also want to change how they feel to be happy Signs of video addiction Sign of video game addiction lack of sleep, because people play games for long periods of time they tend to sleep less. Grades or work performance plummet, Missing of meals, showers because the too busy playing the game they don’t want to move. Hiding from negative or uncomfortable feelings, some people become addicted to gaming because they use it to self-medicate. Negative impact on other areas of life because the person spends so much time on the computer or video game console, other areas of life is neglected. Kicking the habit is hard, too. Video game and computer addicts can't just avoid computers. They need to use them for homework and communication with friends. It's like putting an alcoholic in a bar and saying, "Just have one drink." Parents need to set strict limits and monitor usage. That means the computer or game systems need to be out in the living room or wherever there are other family members present. Some games are education but some not it all depends on how the gamers are affected by the games and what time of games the play. Gaming addiction will not stop so since it fun so companies that develop games should try and develop games that are not that addictive but more educational.
