Hello Rosie

It's so great to read what is going on at Wikipedia and especially in regards to topics that are relevant to women. I've spent the last few days just going through everything I've missed since taking my winter break (And I thought winter was grueling, lol). Nevertheless, Spring and the "great thaw" is upon us and, with the return of every shade of green and vibrant colors to our valley around the corner, I feel refreshed and renewed. I just wanted to stop by and wish you so many blessings for the rest of this year and look forward to being able to make contributions, whether great or small, to allow the voices of my sisters to be heard and to assist in building upon the foundation that so many have poured themselves into forming throughout the years. --ARoseWolf 17:39, 22 April 2021 (UTC)

Women of Color and Tech

Thank you for welcoming me as a first-time editor, and for hosting the NMAI Edit-a-thon event! I'm attending as a member of the Women of Color Advancing Peace and Security group, with members all over the world, primarily young Women of Color in the national security, development, health, tech, and advocacy spaces. We have some members/groups interested in the effort to get equal representation in places like Wikipedia. Thanks for stopping by, TJRC. There was no "Notable people" section in the Solon, Ohio article till I created it and added Elizabeth Lowe Watson. So I didn't realize that this city's article required a RS for any names added to a "Notable people" section (as opposed to the thousands of other city articles, which don't require a RS, but do require a WL). They all do, really, but it's an area where Wikipedia tends to be a bit sloppy. There's no exception for city articles (or even worse, the high school articles) for reliable sources.

Women in Red membership

As I raised this matter on the Ideas page, I thought I should let you know that the situation is not as critical as I thought. I've just been going through the membership list for April registrations and see that in addition to those I covered early in the month, there have in fact been seven more in the past couple of weeks. The reason I did not contact them earlier is that their names did not appear on the membership list until several days after their registration. Every morning I cancel the cache and check the list for the past three days. I now realize I'll have to go back four or five days to catch them all. I don't know why this is happening but at least we're still getting new members. So maybe MarioGom should just leave things as they are for the time being. But maybe we should reduce the membership registration box on the main WiR page to "Join WikiProject" and "View Full List" as the "Meet the participants" is no longer functioning. The only way to view the "cards" is to see when the registration was made and view Special contributions for the editor in question.--Ipigott (talk) 11:05, 28 April 2021 (UTC)

That is good news, Ipigott -- that new members have been joining in the last couple of weeks! As for the box, I'm neutral on how that should look and defer to your opinion on this matter. Let's just see how things evolve over the next few weeks. I think however that now that WMF are giving special attention to the retention of new editors, we ought to do what we can to make sure our project is as welcoming as possible. Teresa Paiva Speedy deletion: Help!!

Hi Rosie. I have just had a Speedy Deletion tag attached to my latest article under the Mental Health editathon. I am at loss to understand the reason for this. If all similar articles get tagged in this way it would appear to threaten the very existence of Women in Red. Any help you can give would be much appreciated. Well, most of his article was translated, I did more for the chapel, another DYK to come. What a story, planned to be demolished twice, a father tells his nine-year-old what he saw on his workplace (building a railroad), and it stuck. (That's from a lecture in German, wouldn't know how to use that as a source.) Every once in a while, I review "Recent Changes", and noticed you had made an edit but that no one had left a "welcome template" (the thing-y with all the links) so I went ahead and did so myself. As for Wikipedia being intimidating, yup, it can feel that way. After a while, though, I hope you feel settled. Please feel free to drop by my talkpage (or the one for Women in Red) any time! Persicifolia I have many, many difficulties with wiki-technology. I research and write. I am not a coder. Most of what I know about coding I copied from what someone else was doing. But because I have no clue about the technology other than the things I use day-in-day-out, I know a bunch of editors who *are* good with technology and coding. (By the way, you can ping more than one person using "yo|Doe|Roe" or "rto|Do|Re|Mi" in {{}}.) It can be daunting, just know you have a community willing to support your success. Persicifolia The colons are indentions. Each one makes the answer indented from the previous post. Look at the top, you had no indent because you were the first post. Rosie replied and used one colon. I replied and used two colons. If one gets too far indented so that the text is "skinny" on the right, you can use od in {{}} to outdent back to the first position. I just spotted that Rosiestep - thanks so much! I was just going round in circles reading the guidelines and not being able to work out which bit was the main offender without feedback. The writing style etc here takes adjusting to I think. (I'll add the source for the dob, though not sure now it's sufficient given it's in a Wynne Jones non-fiction book and Ursula Jones is still alive - anyway I'll add the source or delete the date, whichever is best.) If I knew how to add cat pictures, I would! Thank you for the explanation of the colons SusunW - it's really obvious once you know, like a lot here probably!
