Retired
This user is no longer active on Wikipedia.

Well, my account has been around for exactly, and I mean exactly a year now (if you look at the timestamp at the end of this message, it is the exact minute I created my account a year ago (verify)). I've had a very good time contributing to a great website like English Wikipedia, but I think it's time for me to leave this project, just for a while. My activity levels have been decreasing the past two or three months due to real life events and trying to be active on other projects of the Wikimedia Foundation, which are Simple English Wikipedia, English Wikiquote, and Simple English Wikiquote. I just can't keep up being active on the English Wikipedia as much anymore.

As a result, I am "semi-retiring". I can't exactly "retire" since I probably will make minor edits here and then, and I do want to continue mentoring my current adoptee. Most of you know I have done much substantial work in the article mainspace, but I won't be doing that anymore for a while. I will still check my talk page several times a week. And no, I am not semi-retiring on the other projects I'm active at.

I just wanted to thank everyone who has helped me during the last year on Wikipedia. And I give a special thanks to User:Jj137,User:Basketball110, User:Shapiros10, User:Steve Crossin, User:Ecoleetage, User:Keeper76, and User:PeterSymonds. These people have especially helped me come to who I am today on Wikipedia.

Hopefully, I will be more active again in several months, but for now, farewell to all, and see you soon. :-)

Thank you,

RyanCross (talk) 05:55, 19 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My talk page guidelines:

  • Please use a ==descriptive header== and sign & date your posts by typing four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your message.
  • I'm online a few times during the day, more actively on weekends. If I'm offline, I'll reply to messages when I am online again.
  • Messages posted here will be replied on this talk page unless requested otherwise. Messages I leave on your talk page should be replied there unless requested otherwise. I do this to keep conversations organized.
  • Please be civil and cool when posting messages. I'm probably one of the nicest editors there is around, and I do like to help people, but please don't harass or provoke me. I won't retalliate, I'll merely revert. That being said, feel free to ask me any questions you have, just be civil, and don't personally attack other editors.
  • Please note that I archive talk page posts a few times every-so-often, so if commenting on an old thread that is gone from my talk page, I have archived it. Consider starting a new thread if that happens.
  • I am not going to be as active on English Wikipedia as I used to, so my responses may be delayed. See User:RyanCross for more information.

Congratulations! From what I've seen, you've done some awesome work. Sorry to see you semi-retired... And thank you for wanting to stay around a bit for your current adoptee. :)

[edit]

Good luck to you in whatever you endeavor, Ryry (sorry, couldn't resist). You've had a great run here, and I hope you stick around and keep doing what you enjoy (but only if it doesn't interfere too much with the important stuff). It's been fun watching you - you dealt very well with a lot of grief from other editors early on (including several instances from your truly). Thanks for all your help with Randy Ruiz, and unbeknownst to you at the time, Cal Cooper.  :-) Keeper | 76 04:06, 20 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Seconded, Ryan. Thanks for all of your service - it has been remarkable watching your editing improve over the year. I hope you have a good time in life, with whatever you plan to do. Good luck mate.  GARDEN  22:34, 22 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Request for peer review Mario Ancic

I saw you in peer review/volunteers, so I don't know if you can help me to review at a tennis biography? It's Mario Ančić. I just need some input from somebody, or, as I see, you're very busy. Do you know someone else then who can help?. Thanks! --Göran S (talk) 00:00, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My adoptee, Pax85 (talk · contribs), is quite a good copyeditor. Ask him, and I'm sure he may be able to take a look at your request. Thanks. — RyanCross (talk) 10:09, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks and a request

[edit]

Thanks for signing up at Wikipedia:Peer review/volunteers and for your work doing reviews. It is now just over a year since the last peer review was archived with no repsonse after 14 (or more) days, something we all can be proud of. There is a new Peer review user box to track the backlog (peer reviews at least 4 days old with no substantial response), which can be found here. To include it on your user or talk page, please add {{Wikipedia:Peer review/PRbox}} . Thanks again, and keep up the good work, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:43, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ryan, I came here to give you belated post holiday thanks for your support in my RFA, only to discover that your semi retired, hope that its real life luring you away rather than anything bad happening here, and hope to see you around sometime. [edit]

Hello all, iMatthew here. I just wanted to let you know about "The Great Wikipedia Dramaout" which starts this Saturday. The goal of the Dramaout is to spend five days working on improving articles and abstaining from any of Wikipedia's drama. I don't think that any of you will have a problem focusing on articles for five days, because of course, any work you get done during the Dramaout will count towards your score in the WikiCup. Details are on the page; hope to see you all signing up! :) iMatthew talk at 00:27, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Peer review - Australia national baseball team

[edit]

First off, I understand that you're semi-retired so have no problem if you decline. You're listed at peer review/volunteers as someone who is prepared to peer review baseball articles. I'm hoping you are willing and able to review one I've been working on: Australia national baseball team. If you are, the review itself is here. Another person has gone through it, but I'd love to get as much feedback as possible. Thanks,  Afaber012  (talk)  02:07, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Prisoner Ball

[edit]
An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Prisoner Ball. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Prisoner Ball. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:06, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You may have noticed over the past few days that the MOTD that you link to on your user page has simply displayed a red link. This is due to the fact that not enough people are reviewing pending MOTDs here. Please help us keep the MOTD template alive and simply go and review a few of the MOTDs in the list. That way we can have a real MOTD in the future rather than re-using (This space for rent). Any help would be appreciated! ·Add§hore· Talk To Me! 14:09, 6 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

re Hey there!

[edit]

I'm doing well, tired from a bit of traveling out of town through remote areas with limited Internet access.

Looking forward to getting back into the swing of things in a while.

Lately been focusing on topics generally related to Freedom of speech, for example recently successful promotion to WP:FA of article on book Freedom for the Thought That We Hate.

Hope you're doing well,

Motto of the Day Help Request April 2014

[edit]

Motto of the Day (WP:MOTD) is in a state of emergency and really needs your help! There are not enough editors who are reviewing or nominating mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review, and this probably means that you will notice a red link or “This space for rent” as our mottos for the next weeks and months.

Please take a moment to review the nominations and nominate your own new mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review and Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/'Specials. Any help would be appreciated! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 09:13, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This message has been sent by pjoef on behalf of Motto of the Day to all editors of the English Wikipedia who are showing MOTD's templates on their pages, and to all the participants to MOTD: (page, template, and category).

Inactive on Wikiquote?

[edit]

Hi, I noticed you have not edited at Wikiquote in quite a long time, and are listed as an inactive administrator. Do you think there is any chance you will be back? Cheers! — Cirt (talk) 19:59, 7 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think you are inactive

[edit]

Hey, I have a feeling that you are still watching for stuff on Wikipedia. Just wanted to say hi. :D

David Awuk (talk) 22:42, 7 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. New deal for page patrollers

[edit]

Hi RyanCross,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings Recent Changes Patrollers!

This is a one-time-only message to inform you about technical proposals related to Recent Changes Patrol in the 2016 Community Wishlist Survey that I think you may be interested in reviewing and perhaps even voting for:

  1. Adjust number of entries and days at Last unpatrolled
  2. Editor-focused central editing dashboard
  3. "Hide trusted users" checkbox option on watchlists and related/recent changes (RC) pages
  4. Real-Time Recent Changes App for Android
  5. Shortcut for patrollers to last changes list

Further, there are more than 20 proposals related to Watchlists in general that you may be interested in reviewing. (and over 260 proposals in all, across many aspects of wikis)

Thank you for your consideration. Please note that voting for proposals continues through December 12, 2016.

Note: You received this message because you have transcluded {{User wikipedia/RC Patrol}} (user box) on your user page. Since this message is "one-time-only" there is no opt out for future mailings.

Best regards, SteviethemanDelivered: 01:10, 8 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Notice

The article T.I.'s Road to Redemption has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Sources are all press releases or otherwise primary. Nothing better found

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:04, 25 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
