Sikhism

I responded to your message at Talk:Sikhism. Good catch; it's always good to comment at the talk page if you see something odd but aren't sure whether something should be done. As it happens, Māyā is in fact an important concept in Sikhism (but it doesn't normally appear in all caps). Welcome to WP! Steveozone (talk) 04:42, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks very much for the edit and the welcome. Saebvn (talk) 21:22, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

New Page Patrolling

Thank you for your work with new page patrolling! However, one of your recent tags for speedy deletion (Sugarly) seemed to be incorrect. I'd just like to let you know that {{db-u1}} can't be used unless it is a page that is personal, and is a subpage of the user requesting deletion. Please see WP:CSD#U1. Also, you stated that you thought that maybe more than one CSD tag would work for an article. You can use {{db-multiple}} for tagging a page with multiple possible deletion reasons. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication. If you need help, feel free to contact me here. MJ94 23:09, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your message; I'll use the correct template next time. Appreciate the pointer. Saebvn (talk) 13:13, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

Vdreams13

{{adminhelp}} Requesting admin or other experienced editor assistance. Came across vdreams13 in the mainspace; added "move to userspace" tag, but some fairly alarming stuff is written there. Any additional actions needed? Saebvn (talk) 15:28, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

Could be song lyrics, but I'd like someone else to at least have a look. Saebvn (talk) 15:35, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
I have deleted the article, as it appeared to be nonsense. Even if it was, as you suggest, the lyrics of a song, it was unsuitable as an encyclopaedia article. Thanks for pointing this out. JamesBWatson (talk) 15:46, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
Many thanks. Appreciate your attention. Saebvn (talk) 15:49, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

CSV, Prod, AfD

Thank you for your help in the article review process. You seem to be a bit confused about the terminology and standards for processing deletion nominations, so I hope that I can help. Just a couple of points:

  • The page creator cannot legitimately remove a speedy deletion (CSD) nomination. They frequently think, however, that the {{hangon}} tag — at least in those cases where, may the Flying Spaghetti Monster help us, they don't put it on the talk page, their user page, their user talk page, the category page, etc. — goes on the article page in place of, rather than in addition to, the speedy deletion tag. Only sysops and experienced Wikipedians, not including the page creator, may remove a speedy deletion tag. Once removed by a sysop or an experienced Wikipedian, however, it cannot be put back on unless the page has substantially changed in a way that once again brings it within one of the criteria for speedy deletion.
  • A nomination under WP:PROD is a "proposal for deletion." Except for the specialized WP:BLPPROD, it can be removed from an article by anyone at any time and cannot be replaced once it has. For that reason, in my opinion, it's only for articles where there is little or no chance that anyone will oppose deletion. That does not include, in most cases, an article which has recently been created or which is being actively edited. In those cases, I generally jump straight from the declined speedy to Articles for Deletion and just don't worry about PRODding it. PROD is not part of AfD.
  • The nice thing about AfD is that it's going forward even if the page creator deletes the AfD notice, since the proposed deletion is listed on the AfD noticeboard. The creator can weigh in if he or she likes, but they can't just reject or obfuscate the procedure out of hand. The negative is that your proposal for AfD is going to be scrutinized pretty carefully and you may be subject to actual or implied criticism if you nominate articles glibly.

I hope this helps and happy patrolling. If you'd like to respond, I'll watchlist your talk page for a day or two, so just reply here. Best regards, TRANSPORTERMAN (TALK) 17:07, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

So, in the future, if the creator removes his own CSD tag, I should retag as CSD instead of tagging with other things and proposing for a regular delete? I just didn't want to "revert" my own initial placement of the CSD -- thought that was frowned upon? Thanks for all the info. Saebvn (talk) 17:09, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
Yes, do retag. Don't get in an edit war over it, but if you explain it well enough in your edit comments and place the proper "don't remove speedy deletion tags" warnings on the creator's talk page, they'll usually get the message before it goes that far. Regards, TRANSPORTERMAN (TALK) 17:17, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
OK, then. Thanks for that clarification. Will simply retag in the future. Thanks again. Saebvn (talk) 17:19, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

Electric Boogaloo (song)

I'm a little surprised you tagged this for notability. It states right in the lead that this charted on the Billboard R&B chart. 28bytes (talk) 17:08, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

I apologize. I got confused and have removed the tag. Also posted an apologetic note to the Talk page for the article. Saebvn (talk) 17:11, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
No problem! I appreciate your quick response! And I see you're (relatively) new, so welcome! I'm sure you'll have no shortage of opportunities to deploy that notability tag. :) 28bytes (talk) 17:13, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

CSD

Please be more careful when tagging pages for CSD. With this template, for example, you failed to notice that is one of the hundreds of similar referencing templates in Category:Subtemplates of Template RussiaBasicLawRef, and you tagged it the same minute it was created, which sure explains why it is unused. I have removed the CSD tag as inapplicable. Best,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); September 21, 2010; 17:27 (UTC)

I don't believe you can remove CSD tags from your own articles. I have added the tag back and have added a note to the talk page. Please move discussion there. Thanks. Saebvn (talk) 17:29, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
It appears to be displaying poorly if a template creation was intended. Please also review how the template displays in the mainspace. Saebvn (talk) 17:33, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
And, I am sorry if I'm misreading things here. I was told (by an administrator) that CSD templates removed by article creators could be immediately reinstated. Saebvn (talk) 17:34, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
You were told right—you can immediately re-instate the CSD template. The point I am trying to make, however, is that it never hurts to think before re-instating it. I've explained the reasons why the G1 criterion does not apply—you shouldn't have re-instated the CSD tag unless you disagree with those reasons. Do you?
As for how the template is displays, I see no problems on the Sovetsky District, Russia page where it (and dozens of similar templates) are used; with the exception of the CDS tag, of course.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); September 21, 2010; 17:39 (UTC)
I am reviewing the template's use now. I will make further comment on the template's talk page. Saebvn (talk) 17:40, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
Corrected; my mistake. Saebvn (talk) 17:46, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
Thanks much for a quick response; appreciated.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); September 21, 2010; 17:47 (UTC)
And sorry for my being jumpy, too. Best wishes,—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); September 21, 2010; 17:49 (UTC)

Sorry to give you conflicting messages here but when you come across an article like Twoddler that is an obvious hoax you definitely can tag that for speedy deletion under G3. WP:SPEEDY. There's no real way to know for sure how to tag things. And PRODing instead of speedy deletion isn't a huge deal. Just thought I'd let you know :) --Deutschgirl (talk) 04:04, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

Is it a hoax? See http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10410074-1.html Saebvn (talk) 12:59, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
Looks like it may just be a prototype; see: http://research.edm.uhasselt.be/~twoddler/index.php?n=Main.HomePage Saebvn (talk) 13:03, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
Oh wow your definitely right I never even thought that it could be a real product. It just seemed so fake and the article's tone wasn't helping either. My apologies then. --D•g Talk to me/What I've done 04:44, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

Hi!

Welcome to the club! There's a heck of a lot to learn - take it steady and don't get into too many places at once. Find the list of templates for tagging, and the one for giving more serious warnings. They're around somewhere - I don't tend to need them now. I remember the tags, and if I can't remember the warnings, I make them up. (Not really recommended, but fun sometimes...) Userpages can be tagged for spam or attack, but not much else except copyright. If it's spam, use {{spam-warn-userpage}} on their talk page. If it's an attack or copyright, I don't know of a specific template for userpage use. I just make those up to fit the occasion. For ordinary page speedies, there's a little template on the notice that your db-whatever produces. Do use it. Another tip - read things that are going on, even if you don't participate immediately. You can learn a lot that way. Sorry if this seems obvious - it's better said than not.... Never be afraid to ask. Peridon (talk) 20:57, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

Altered speedy deletion rationale: Imad Abu laban

Hello Saebvn. I am just letting you know that I deleted Imad Abu laban, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, under a different criterion from the one you provided, which doesn't fit the page in question. Thank you. Kimchi.sg (talk) 01:40, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
