Information icon Hi Sarahcannell! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Akong Rinpoche that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia – it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Please see Help:Minor edit for more information. Thank you. Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page ROKPA International has been reverted.
Your edit here to ROKPA International was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline. The external link(s) you added or changed (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQfIY7wwKtIfiR3HlT9Mb6w) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. If the external link you inserted or changed was to a media file (e.g. music or video) on an external server, then note that linking to such files may be subject to Wikipedia's copyright policy, as well as other parts of our external links guideline. If the information you linked to is indeed in violation of copyright, then such information should not be linked to. Please consider using our upload facility to upload a suitable media file, or consider linking to the original.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 08:38, 10 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Control copyright icon Hello Sarahcannell! Your additions to ROKPA International have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. All other images must be made available under a free and open license that allows commercial and derivative reuse to be used on Wikipedia.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps in Wikipedia:Translation#How to translate. See also Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Asartea Talk | Contribs 09:03, 10 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon Please do not remove the {{copyvio/core}} template from articles, as you did with ROKPA International. Your action has been reverted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept non-free text or images borrowed from other websites or printed material; such additions will be deleted, and removing copyright notices will not help your case. You can properly contest the deletion at Wikipedia:Copyright problems. If you are the owner of the material, you may release the material under the Creative Commons and GFDL licenses, as detailed at WP:IOWN. Alternatively, you are welcome to create a draft in your own words at Talk:ROKPA International/Temp. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators and/or removers of the copyright notice templates will be blocked from editing. Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at Four Noble Truths, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. A wiki like this does not qualify as a Reliable Source MichaelMaggs (talk) 07:13, 14 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • HI MichaelMaggs sorry I have no idea why the link you have deleted has been flagged as not being a reliable source, as it is maintained by khenpos (professors) of the shedra in Pharping who have specialist knowledge in the field of buddhist philosposhy. I felt compelled to add it as having read the page on wikipedia and others similar I was horrified at the amount of misinformation there on there . For example, I am seeing people quoting Hollywood films as evidence of Buddha's teachings, and people just sharing their own personal opinions which do not stand up to reason or logic. I personally am no expert unlike some of these buddhist scholars who have studied this field of knowledge for on average 12-20 years, 14hrs a day 7 days a week. It is so disheartening to see people who have clearly no understanding of the topic present themselves as experts and indoing so really mislead others. I do not consider myself qualified to make a contribution, however, having seen what other people are putting on some of these pages has compelled me at times to do so in the knowledge that at least what I am doing is based upon credible sources. I please ask you to reconsider your decision to ban links to this page. Sarahcannell (talk) 18:26, 14 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Sarahcannell, I've looked at this in a bit more detail, and the usual objection to wikis under WP:UGC - that they contain user-generated content - doesn't apply here. So you may be OK with the addition. I don't know anything about the wiki's maintainers, and I can't comment on that, but I've no power to ban you from adding the link. You may well find editors on the talk page who can provide more specialist guidance. All the best, MichaelMaggs (talk) 21:08, 14 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Akong Rinpoche

[edit]

Nice to see you actively editing Akong Rinpoche. Please try to find sources not associated with Samye Ling or Akong himself to verify claims in references. Reliable independent sources are good, some times new media if not so reliable can at least be independent. Academic sources are usually great. You seem to be learning very fast but you will see some of the references use citation templates in curly brackets. These are best as far as linking updating and formatting but they are a bit tricky. There are some browser plug ins to help if you are interested and want to know more, as they are a bit tedious to do by hand. As mentioned you need to be very careful on articles where you may have a conflict of interest. It is best at least to practice editing articles where you are genuinely neutral, eg geographic articles or history where you do know a bit and want to find out more but you would not be seen to have a vested interest. That way you can learn the culture and practices of Wikipedia more gently. The Akong RInpoche article is one of those places where people who are interested enough to edit the article at least tend to have been involved with the subject. Please ask on your talk page by tagging me or on my talk page if you need help. Best wishes Billlion (talk) 10:07, 11 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Male murder victims

[edit]

I just wanted to ask why when there are on average 350,000 male murders worldwide committed every year, why out of the millions of murders only a few select individuals are singled out of this on this page? If they were all notable people I could understand it but it seems very random and arbitrary. Sarahcannell (talk) 16:27, 11 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe ask on the talk page for the category (even though it is blank you can add something to it). A category is used to organize Wikipedia articles by themes, so if there is a biography of a person that was murdered or an article about the murder it should be in this category, and you add an article to the category by listing the category at the bottom of the article (open any article to edit at the bottom and you will see it.) So it will never be very comprehensive, as you say given the huge number of people murdered throughout history. Only where the person or murder is notable, there is sufficient information to write an article and someone gets around to doing it. Note also a lttle bit of care is needed to get people listed alphabetically by given name, a bit difficult where they are not named with that convention. Hi Billlion I thought I would follow your advice and have a go working on a new page. I am having trouble though reducing the size of a photo and was wondering if you could help show me how to reduce it? Thank you for you help.Sarahcannell (talk) 12:12, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

So here is the picture from the Akong article In between square brackets I had Image:Akong Tulku Rinpoche throne.jpg|thumb|Akong Rinpoche in the Temple at Samye Ling|347x347px. The last bit is the size of teh image in pixels. Lets see now if I can make him really small here is 50 by 50 pixels.

Hello. I am Moneytrees and I am a Wikipedia administrator. I recently removed some content you added to Religion and environmentalism as it was copied from a cited source. Prose you find online is almost always copyright, and cannot be copied here; it's against the copyright policy of this website to do so. All prose must be written in your own words. The Wikipedia copyright policy and its application are complex matters, and you should not edit any more until you have taken the time to read and understand our copyright policy. There's a simplified version of our copyright rules at Wikipedia:FAQ/Copyright. Further copyright issues will result in you being blocked from editing. [edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Religion and environmentalism, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Forestry Commission Scotland. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:14, 14 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Block notice

[edit]
Stop icon
You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for violating copyright policy by copying text or images into Wikipedia from another source without evidence of permission, as you did at Religion and environmentalism. Please take this opportunity to ensure that you understand our copyright policy and our policies regarding how to use non-free content.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  — Diannaa (talk) 11:34, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have blocked your account, because in spite of repeated warnings, you continued to add copyright material to Wikipedia in violation of our copyright policy. You cannot resume editing until you provide a statement describing how copyright applies to Wikipedia, show that you understand our copyright policy, and make a commitment to follow it in the future.— Diannaa (talk) 11:35, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

HI Diannaa Bit confused as to how I have been blocked as I have been ultra careful . I did add a direct quote by His Holiness which I made very clear was a quote using quote marks itallics and named the source. Is this the reason? If not please can you let me know which part is copyrighted so I can make an appeal Thank you Sarahcannell (talk) 14:58, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

While it's true you did add some quotations to Religion and environmentalism, the problem lies with the other text you added, which was copied from here and here. You can view the problem by looking at the bot reports: here and here. Click on the iThenticate links to view the overlapping content.— Diannaa (talk) 15:37, 18 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
