Information icon Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. You appear to be repeatedly reverting or undoing other editors' contributions. Although this may seem necessary to protect your preferred version of a page, on Wikipedia this is known as "edit warring" and is usually seen as obstructing the normal editing process, as it often creates animosity between editors. Instead of reverting, please discuss the situation with the editor(s) involved and try to reach a consensus on the talk page.

If editors continue to revert to their preferred version they are likely to be blocked from editing Wikipedia. This isn't done to punish an editor, but to prevent the disruption caused by edit warring. In particular, editors should be aware of the three-revert rule, which says that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Edit warring on Wikipedia is not acceptable in any amount, and violating the three-revert rule is very likely to lead to a block. Thank you.--VVikingTalkEdits 13:59, 16 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Response to my page[edit]

First off you have a Conflict of Interest by working on the campaign so you should not be editing the article directly, you should be using the talk page. Second, multiple different individuals have reverting your edits, by you continuing to add your preferred information you are Edit Warring. Finally the talk page discusses why he isn't being included. The normal standards for being included is if the party got 5% in the last election. We also consider 5% in reliable polling. There is a discussion on the talk page about this, as this candidate did receive 5% in one poll, but the consensus is still one poll is not enough to include. --VVikingTalkEdits 19:37, 16 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

As the social media director on the campaign I was tasked with getting his photo updated on the page. I've never used Wikipedia before, but I thought it was pretty straightforward to just update his photo, as he was listed with a stock silhouette photo. I apologize for not using the "talk" page. I now see that and have plead my case there. The Libertarian candidate has been left off nearly every poll, so I don't understand how that is a reason to also leave him off this page. He has been certified on the ballot, and submitted over 14,000 petition signatures to get there. There are only 3 candidates left in the race. All 3 should be accurately reflected here. In the only non-controlled poll I am aware of that actually listed every candidate who ran in this race, Matt Waters is polling nearly even with Corey Stewart. This poll has almost 7,000 votes, and Matt Waters has reached up to 15% in this poll. Our campaign is just getting started. If Matt Waters gets over 10% of the votes in November, the ballot access laws in Virginia will change for future Libertarian candidates, so this is very important to us, and we are very confident and expect Matt to get more than 10% of the votes in November. Waters picture[edit]

Hey! I was just wondering if you could please add another picture of Matt Waters to Wikimedia Commons, just without the bar at the bottom reading: "Proud to be a Libertarian/All of your freedoms all of the time," which looks unprofessional. I would like to add a photo of Waters to the 2018 Virginia Senate election page, as the blank space above his name isn't very visually appealing. Thank you.74.110.185.157 (talk) 18:39, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

That's great news, thank you. Matt just uploaded a plain photo to wikipedia commons named "Matt Waters, 2018 candidate for US Senate". Please use that one. Schultzjm1 (talk) 21:02, 2 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Can you also add the following as a third paragraph to the main body of the article: "The Libertarian Party of Virginia selected Matt Waters as the party nominee for Senate at their annual convention in Richmond VA on March 10th 2018. After submitting over 14,000 petition signatures, Matt Waters was officially certified to appear on the ballot on June 12, 2018." Schultzjm1 (talk) 21:22, 2 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I could add that in the stead of whatever is currently said on the "Libertarian candidate" section of the article. I'm reluctant to add it onto the main body of the article because A) it would spark another round of controversy and B) it would require us to add something about Kaine as well - the GOP blurb was only there to talk about how they picked a primary instead of a convention, and then it was obligatory for the winner of the primary to be mentioned. As you know, I'm not hostile to Matt or anything, I just don't want to be accidentally biased in favor of him while trying to eliminate bias against him.74.110.185.157 (talk) 23:23, 2 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yea I hear ya. I was just thinking since Tim Kaine is referenced as the incumbent Democrat candidate, and then there is a small paragraph about the Republican primary and method of selection, for fairness there should be a sentence or two about the Libertarian Party method of selecting a candidate. Also, did you see that already, Wikipedia has removed Matt's photo again! What is going on?? This is my first experience with Wikipedia, and I am finding it mind numbing. It's starting to feel like someone from Corey Stewarts campaign is in charge of this page. What's the deal? Schultzjm1 (talk) 02:03, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. I cropped the photo (it looks like that was Wikipedia's problem this time).. And had Matt upload the cropped version into Wikipedia commons once again... The new file name is "Matt Waters, candidate for US Senate from VA". Could you get that one uploaded? That should do the trick. Schultzjm1 (talk) 02:20, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Amen brother. I'll do it. Hopefully we should finally get it this time.74.110.185.157 (talk) 23:13, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Haha, welp. You guessed it. They have AGAIN deleted Matt Waters' photo from the page. Back to square one after all that. Matt has once again uploaded his own photo into Wikipedia Commons, this time titled "US Senate candidate Matt Waters". I'm going to try uploading it since we had the whole discussion and came to a consensus already, but if they reject me uploading it as they did before, perhaps you could upload it again. Schultzjm1 (talk) 20:25, 18 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I think there's a copyright reason its getting deleted. I don't super understand, you should probably talk to an authority figure for more instructions. Keep up the good fight!74.110.185.157 (talk) 20:10, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

As a suggestion, try creating a page on your campaign site like this: https://www.campbell4liberty.com/official_photo which explicitly provides a compatible Creative Commons license, upload it under that license on Wikimedia Commons, and link that as the source.
