Zoos[edit]

I saw your note about zoos at WT:FAC and thought you might be interested in some feedback I got from my sister, who works for the London Zoological Society. Some bullet points of things that might be included:

  • History and foundation, financial health, governance. Is it a charity zoo, city/state, or private?
  • Location, size, and layout, though a map is likely to get out of date.
  • Architecture if of interest -- London Zoo has listed buildings, for example
  • Current key staff (e.g. curator); any notable prior staff
  • Is the zoo partnering with a university to achieve its aims?
  • Notable breeding successes. She mentioned that participation in breeding programs is a condition of regional zoo association membership in most regions, and also commented that success is more complicated than just producing some offspring, so this should be sourced to more than just a press release. A zoo will likely participate in many breeding programs but rather than list them a link would be sensible as the list is likely to change fairly frequently.
  • Any notable news coverage (as happened for Knut (polar bear).
  • Membership in professional organizations, such as national and regional associations and WAZA and ISIS.
  • The zoo will have a mission statement and strategic aims; some summary of these might be useful.
  • Conservation involvement; projects run or supported by the zoo
  • Research involvement
  • CEPA/Discovery and learning programmes at home and abroad

I'm not expert in these topics myself but can pass along any specific questions you have. Her expertise is that of a scientist, and she's not a Wikipedia editor at all, so she is considering the scientific aspects of zoos and not other forms of notabile information. Hence the list above might be incomplete. I hope it's helpful, and good luck with the article. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library)

Noob Saibot Article[edit]

Is there any way to fix it so that the categories will go back? Penguinazul (talk) 14:55, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry, I fixed it. :) Choyoołʼįįhí:Seb az86556 > haneʼ 19:58, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
When you fixed it, you put it back in its original state -- did you mean to do this? None of my changes are showing up. Penguinazul (talk) 02:55, 8 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Wasn't me — but I see you used wikipedia and wikia as a reference; that doesn't count. They are not considered reliable sources. Choyoołʼįįhí:Seb az86556 > haneʼ 03:05, 8 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yá'át'ééh[edit]

I just realized that I recognize that language! I envy anyone who lives or has lived in Tsaile. I only ever saw the south rim. I do not know how you felt about Desert Rock, but I was in Albuquerque at the time and I did not see much coverage of outraged masses waving signs in the streets. I just don't think the outrage will happen this time either. People are worried about feeding their families. That always comes first and they are keeping us busy with that. Elinruby (talk) 08:31, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Aooʼ yáʼátʼééh. You recognize the ZIP-code... I don't live there anymore, though. The thing about the "masses" is you cannot have them in the streets when they don't exist. Choyoołʼįįhí:Seb az86556 > haneʼ 08:40, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No, I did not recognize the zip code, I'm not that good ;) I recognized the language then realized that it *was* a zip code, then got curious. I had an amazing encounter with a group of horses when I went to the south rim. I am shall we say respectfully ignorant about the place. Probably know more about it than the average bilagáana, but I also know that that's a really really low bar. But I am sorry to gush at you. I hate it when people do this sort of thing to me. ("Oh, you're Canadian? My uncle went to Saskatoon once. He said it was really amazingly clean." ummmm... thanks?) Anyway. I don't live in New Mexico anymore myself. Got starved out.
I am not sure whether we are talking about Desert Rock or SOPA above now. The Albuquerque Journal never covered Desert Rock at all as far as I know, is my point. Pretty sure they thought the project was a good thing. Good for bidness.
As for SOPA, I've researched it pretty carefully and did a lot of the work on the current en article. It really is a completely toxic piece of legislation. And it's not making the news at all outside of the technical sites. You seem to be saying that people may wake up if it passes, is that right? I don't think so. People won't pay attention at all, until suddenly YouTube is gone, most unfortunate of course, but whatareyagonnado? They'll just turn on the 24 reruns or something. I feel like Cassandra but I also feel like I have to *try* Elinruby (talk) 11:11, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
No, I'm not saying people will go on rampage once it passes, they will indeed go on rampage when youtube goes blank. And that was my point about maybe not doing anything about this for now. Maybe people do need to have shit flying into their face first. And this one, unlike the Occupy-movement's concerns, could really have people in the U.S. pissed off. See — the Occupy movement doesn't have as much traction here, because in the U.S., saying you are poor or complain about not having/making enough money is kind of a stigma; a lot of people are not willing to appear on TV and "whine" about that. But when their favo(u)rite TV-show gets cancel(l)ed or youtube goes blank, I promise you, they'll go wild. Choyoołʼįįhí:Seb az86556 > haneʼ 11:30, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think you are right about Occupy. That *is* exactly the problem. But as for this, though...mmm. I don't think it's something we should play with, even in hopes of waking people up. I don't think it's *really* about copyright. Oh, passing the law lets legislators please people who throw a lot of money around, and that's always a happy thing for them. Obama is likely to sign it if it passes for much the same reason. But. Remember when gas was around $1.75 a gallon not so long ago? And then it went to four, and then back down to two, which was now "low" and a completely acceptable baseline. That new proposed law, at a quick glance, may not be that much better, although it does seem to preserve safe harbor, so YouTube will be safe as long as it responds to complaints in a timely manner. They'll still be able to go after the Wikileaks of the world though. I think. I just found out in that strike thread that the alternate proposal had draft language now. Maybe I will think otherwise once I take another look. The language about tools is still in there. It looks untouched. Thou shalt not hide from Big Brother. The thing is... I *like* a world that has open source software tools in it. I will however give the sponsors of *this* bill credit for putting up a wiki for comment. I told Wnt I'd give him a hand so I guess I will figure out pretty soon what I think about that. And comment if appropriate. Elinruby (talk) 11:49, 11 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Admirable approach noted[edit]

Just to say I have noted the admirable way you have conducted your recent contributions at User talk:Jimbo Wales. The issue is contentious, but you have risen above that, acknowledging well-thought out views, and questioning or challenging others. That's a big part of what makes Wikipedia so great. July 2009 Ürümqi riots[edit]

Hello! You appear to have misinterpreted MOS:BOLDTITLE. The text in question reads as follows:

"If the page title is descriptive it does not need to appear verbatim in the main text, and even if it does it should not be in boldface."

Note the use of the term "main text" (not "lead"). The above means that when a title is merely descriptive (i.e. not a formal or de facto name for the article's subject), it need not appear in the article and definitely shouldn't appear in boldface.
The title "Stop bolding everything" is used to draw attention and isn't intended to be taken literally. That page describes the reasons why we don't display descriptive titles in boldface.
One such reason is evident in the July 2009 Ürümqi riots article's lead, which presently states that "the July 2009 Ürümqi riots were a series of violent riots" (an awkward redundancy). —David Levy 09:16, 22 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hippolyta Content[edit]

Hello! I wasn't sure were to respond to your answer to my feedback, so I tried a few places, and now here. The article that seems to need to be listed in the Hippolyta article is entitled "Hippolyta" as well and can be found easily on www.pantheon.org. Thank you for responding so quickly to my questions! No. What you wrote did not sound like correct English. And please don't write Japanese or whatever on my talkpage. Write a language I understand without copy-pasting into google-translate. Choyoołʼįįhí:Seb az86556 > haneʼ 09:57, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't use google translation. I wrote it on my own and also I had no idea about standard English. BTW, be polite, as we Japanese care about.お願いします--俠刀行 (talk) 10:03, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Put Gayathri (2013 film) up for deletion[edit]

Hi! I noticed that you prodded Gayathri (2013 film), but I put it up for formal deletion. The reason is that the original article creator has kept re-adding the film after it was deleted, so I wanted to list it for formal deletion so it could be speedied under G4 in the future, without debate, if the guy added it without it passing notability guidelines. I just wanted to let you know what was going on, was all.Tokyogirl79 (talk) 11:56, 31 December 2011 (UTC)tokyogirl79[reply]
