The Smashing Pumpkins - Silvery Sometimes (Ghosts)

Hi Sergecross73, I've noticed you've closed the article for Silvery Sometimes (Ghosts) that I created today, I was in the process of completing the article as you can see by the timeline and was coming up with more references and content to support, I just stopped for lunch for an hour. I would like the opportunity to complete it if you could give me an appropriate window to do so. Thanks EL Foz87 (talk) 13:25, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Okay, if you’re still working on it, that’s fine, it’s just that some editors start articles like that and leave them like that, never returning. I won’t object if you keep working on it. In the future, you may want to consider working on articles in WP:DRAFT/WP:USERSPACEDRAFT/WP:SANDBOX areas first before publishing articles, as to avoid this sort of thing from happening. Also, you might want to keep in mind WP:RSMUSIC - Alternative Nation isn’t considered a reliable/usable source. Sergecross73 msg me 13:31, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
Thanks, still quite new to all of this! I shall work to these guidelines from now on, don't want to fall foul of guidelines like this. I'll work on the article in my sandbox for now then post from now on. Thank you for the advice, Regards EL Foz87 (talk) 13:41, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi. If you have an issue with my edits feel free, and we can reach a consensus. 183.171.122.90 (talk) 12:53, 7 September 2018 (UTC)

I don't recall ever editing that article or interacting with you. You'll have to refresh my memory on what this is about... Sergecross73 msg me 12:57, 7 September 2018 (UTC)

Suspected Jakandsig Sockpuppet

Hello there! This may seem rather hard to believe given how long it's been, but the user that's been attacking fellow editors, along with yourself, and making questionable edits, may very well be our old friend Jakandsig from back in the day. One of the reasons he caught my eye was that the articles that he's currently disputing where all the same ones he and his army of 5000 Sockpuppets constantly kept coming back to resulting in him getting caught numerous times.

He actually caught me off guard for a bit because his edits on the video game crash page were actually helpful this time. BUT, the CD-i warring, at least in my opinion, has all but confirmed this guy is a Jak Sockpuppet. It's a shame to, because if I'm not mistaken he was the one that added the sales numbers to a bunch of niche systems, he could have been a great asset for retro articles if he actually tried to follow the rules or wasn't agressive toward other editors.

If you recall, he was the "Pro-American" version of Jagged85, who is "Pro-Japan". The only thing this new account hasn't done is mess with a NES related article.

Here is the old Sockpuppet page, you'll see the similarties right away: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Jakandsig/Archive Maniac Panic (talk) 20:07, 31 August 2018 (UTC)

Very interesting, thank you. I’ll look into this further. Feel free to share any specific links to similarities you’ve noticed, that’d help too. Thanks. Sergecross73 msg me 00:51, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

Those two links are all that's needed in my opinion. He has also mentioned the CTV in the talk page as well. The only thing he hasn't mentioned that Jak did was Pippin. To be honest if he did I'd think id be enough to call Spike a duck. Alt "Thekingstable" continued where Jak left off in the Dreamcast article as well, whom also was editing the CD-i page. I think there's definitely enough to warrant investigating. Jak and his alts also edited the 7800, 3DO, third generation, video game crash of 83, and Xbox related articles frequently, and Spike has been to all of them. Not only that, looking at some alts contribs, he's gone to them in almost the exact same order as well, like he was given a script or something. Biggest change is he hasn't vandalized the crash of 83 or any Nintendo related articles...yet. Seems his aggression toward you is also near identical, right up to questioning your admin status and threat.Maniac Panic (talk) 02:47, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for the insight, I appreciate it. I’ve consulted with some others, and we seem to be in agreement that it seems very possible, but slightly premature to call it confirmed yet. I’ll keep an eye on him, and take further action if he causes more trouble. Let me know if you see him causing trouble that it looks like I’m aware of. Thanks! Sergecross73 msg me 03:49, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
As it turns out, my gut was indeed correct. It appears Check User WAS able to find out he was Jak despite it being 4 years later, as was the primary concern of Timesareachanging. Luckily, there's not too much to clean up this time. Maniac Panic (talk) 17:09, 22 September 2018 (UTC)
Yes, I had planned on doing an SPI had he persisted as much as he had at the end of August, as I suspected it too, but he never came back all that much, and most of his edits had already been undone a week or two ago, so as you say, very little damage done, Jak/Spike just wasted a lot of people’s time, himself included. Sergecross73 msg me 17:37, 22 September 2018 (UTC)
Actually I think he knew the heat was on him, because most of his other posts were made logged off after the Sega modem tandrum, just no one seemed to notice. However, I believe Check User got the IPs blocked as well. My only concern is that in the past, he would aggressively make new accounts when he was angered. Back in 2014 if I recall, he spawned over 50 alts across usernames and IPS in just 2 months. Maniac Panic (talk) 17:59, 22 September 2018 (UTC)
Let me know if you come across any block evasion. I was being more cautious in linking Jak and Spike because Jak has been away for years. I’d be much more likely to DUCK block a brand new account that acts just like Spike. Sergecross73 msg me 18:26, 22 September 2018 (UTC)
It may be a good idea to close all those previous talk pages where you engaged with Spike, like how the other admin did with the Shadow The Hedgehog talk page. It'll make it harder for him to act like he's a new guy continuing an old conversation, this way if any new accounts bring those arguments back up, they can be instantly identified as Ducks. Maniac Panic (talk) 19:05, 22 September 2018 (UTC)

Question

This is a very basic question, but when it comes to dating video games and other such releases on the English Wikipedia, is the consensus that we use the European (Day/Month/Year) order or the American (Month/Day/Year) order? I'm assuming whichever it is, it's a sitewide standard?--Domushen (talk) 21:53, 22 September 2018 (UTC)

WP:ENGVAR and WP:RETAIN will explain this for you. Basically, if it (the game) has ties to a certain region, use that style/spelling. If there is no specific ties, then just stick with whatever style is currently being used (which should be the same as what was chosen at the articles creation if there weren’t specific ties.) Let me know if that doesn’t make sense. Had to write that fast, I only had a minute at the moment. Sergecross73 msg me 22:18, 22 September 2018 (UTC)
WP:DATEVAR is best. --Izno (talk) 22:43, 22 September 2018 (UTC)

Question

Yo dude, why did you redo my edit to Nu metal? Hollywood Undead are rap rock, nu metal, rapcore and rep metal... I've been listening to them for 5 years and I know they're nu metal and that they feature rapping.. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aleksandaredwards2002 (talkcontribs) 21:54, 24 September 2018 (UTC)

You didn’t add a source, and we don’t particularly need another example anyways. It’s a basic concept with a ton of potential bands to list. We don’t need to list every band that fits the description. Sergecross73 msg me 23:01, 24 September 2018 (UTC)

IGN Bubsy Review

Why can't we include the one positive from that IGN review for Bubsy in Claws Encounters of the Furred Kind? If we leave the review as it is, readers would think that the IGN review is negative on every aspect of the game which isn't really the case. 172.250.44.165 (talk) 02:19, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

It’s not that it can’t be included at all, it’s just that the implementation wasn’t great. It could be included, it’s just you, or whoever did it, awkwardly forced it into an already busy sentence. You need to figure out a way to add the info with better flow. It’d be more insightful to mention what they liked about his personality too. Sergecross73 msg me 02:36, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Vandalism pt 20

  • I gave him a final warning, since, in the most technical sense, is slightly different from what I've warned him on in the past. Completely agree that his edits are disruptive and show poor judgement. Please let me know if you catch him doing any more. I think the warnings given at this point have been wide enough in their scope to justify a block regarding anything remotely related. Sergecross73 msg me 16:00, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
  • Just checked the non-gaming edits, and they were all date changes too (either entirely, or unsourced additions) so it seems every edit should be rolled back. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 02:02, 14 April 2018 (UTC)
  • Thanks. I had been reverting the IP across some articles for some bad edits, but couldn't recall if it was a long-term person or just an incompetent IP editor. Forgot about N800. Thanks. Sergecross73 msg me 17:10, 21 June 2018 (UTC)
  • He geolocates to Saudi Arabia, etc, so coupled with the redirect topic focus, is a dead give away. Unfortunately the ranges jump around a lot. -- ferret (talk) 17:21, 21 June 2018 (UTC)
  • LiquidNix (talk · contribs) is being highly uncivil on my talk page, making comments like this because he disagrees (and has ignored) my request to go to WP:RM about a page move I did a while back, which was moving LGD Gaming to PSG.LGD as the page was primarily focused on their Dota 2 team, which was recently rebranded. I also told him that he would be more helpful by helping expand the article beyond its Dota 2-centricness over just insulting me, but then he just made the comment above. EDIT: seems like Drmies (talk · contribs) blocked him for 31 hours due to personal attacks, but the issue is likely to return once he does, so it still deserves some sort of solution. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 01:07, 1 July 2018 (UTC)
  • If he continues to insult you, I'll block him further, as there's no excuse for that sort of nonsense. As for the issues itself, I don't follow esports stuff at all, so I really don't know any background here. My only advice would be to start up a discussion at WP:VG on it. But that's only if that guy can stay unblocked long enough to form a constructive argument. Sergecross73 msg me 01:40, 1 July 2018 (UTC)
  • I've started a proper discussion on the talk page there and await his response upon returning. Hopefully the personal attacks will go away in favor of actually improving the article. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 20:38, 1 July 2018 (UTC)
  • I don't understand how personally attacking someone right off the bat gets the article's issues fixed, but whatever. I think the user's original point was valid (I wasn't aware that only the Dota 2 team got rebranded when I requested the move, the original organization is still LGD Gaming), so I'll probably request the move back soon. ~ Dissident93 (talk) 21:33, 4 July 2018 (UTC)
Thank you both. Sergecross73 msg me 22:17, 20 July 2018 (UTC)
  • Yeesh, what is it with these people? Are they so obsessed they check every day? Or mark it on the calendars or something? I know we deal with this stuff all the time, but it still amazes me with these people who dedicate months and years to this sort of thing. Not even passionate topics like politics or sports, but something as trivial as unverifiable or hoax video game release dates. Unreal. Sergecross73 msg me 19:29, 16 August 2018 (UTC)
Hi there. I remember you. Thanks for the update. I’ll try to keep an eye on it. Let me know if you notice anything else too. Sergecross73 msg me 03:02, 21 August 2018 (UTC)
  • Don't worry, I am too. He's way too disruptive, and the fact that he started actively editing Yoshi stuff right after the protection was applied makes me think he's the same IP who got the page protected to begin with. Blocked. Sergecross73 msg me 19:49, 30 August 2018 (UTC)
  • Definitely someone who deserves to be rolled back, for sure, but I’m not sure if it’s the release date vandal. He’s leaving talk page messages, and at sex related articles. That’s not a pattern I’ve ever witnessed... Sergecross73 msg me 03:41, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
Thanks. Probably better you than me, since I reverted him once, and it wasn’t blatant vandalism. Sergecross73 msg me 01:38, 13 September 2018 (UTC)
  • I'm not even sure how to reply to that. If you have a source, certainly it's better to simply add it than to revert someone over something you know is true. -- ferret (talk) 01:31, 20 September 2018 (UTC)
  • I think it's better to leave that on the Nintendo Switch page, that's how I think of it, going forward. Adding price ranges like that to the list of games seems to be a bit redundant to me. @Dissident93:, what are your thoughts on this, if you don't mind.Zacharyalejandro (talk) 01:55, 20 September 2018 (UTC)

Done, but please engage with people if they dispute it. I agree with your stance, but could see a good-faith argument for is being at the old title too. Sergecross73 msg me 15:52, 4 July 2018 (UTC)

Xenoblade (series)

I have another article I'd like to put in the mainspace, but I wanted to bring it up to you first before doing so. I know it's far from perfect and there is still a lot of work that needs to be done, but I think I got the basics done. I would like for others to chip in if possible. Any sort of feedback is appreciated! :) --MomoQca (talk) 23:13, 28 September 2018 (UTC)

It’s been my belief that Xenoblade doesn’t need a series article because there’s already a Xeno series article. But I see you’re trying hard at this, and it’s not a bad start. So I won’t object to it. But I also won’t argue in favor of it. If you want to move it to the mainspace, I won’t object. But others might. So it’s up to you. If you want to go for it now, you can. If you’d rather get a consensus at WP:VG first, you can. If you get a consensus there, you’ll be in the clear. But if you don’t, you’ll be stuck. If you don’t discuss at all, you may get into disputes down the line. It’s up to you. I won’t get in the way either way though. Sergecross73 msg me 23:20, 29 September 2018 (UTC)
Thank you for responding. Even though you may think differently, I can respect your viewpoint. I'll check out WP:VG.--MomoQca (talk) 00:59, 30 September 2018 (UTC)

Banned that user please and protect Universal theme parks pages

Hey, can you please banned this annoying user?! Because for no reason, He or she keep continuing on vandalizing articles that relates to Universal Parks and Resorts, including, Universal Studios Florida. by adding those unsource materials of characters/franchises that don't appear at the park!!! That ticks me off because I don't understand why that user don't understand about how Wikipedia is about, considering he or she treats this site like a fansite. I know if that user is either a child or is drunk.

So that's why those Universal pages should've be protected. So can you that along protecting those Universal theme park pages?

You appear to be contradicting yourself

You say this, when I did not say the only concern I or any other user had had with AXS was that it was "promotional", but then I search at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Albums and find that you said, in February 2016: "Correct, it shouldn't be used for an reviews or subjective type content - its hard to think they'd be neutral when they're in the business of selling tickets for said artists - but basic details, like time and places for concerts, would be okay." An assessment of a genre is a subjective claim, and you're now contradicting your own opinion. "It's hard to think they'd be neutral", no? Ss112 08:37, 4 October 2018 (UTC)

Also, your summary doesn't make much sense and seems defensive for the sake of being so on your own article. That's great, but there'd be no reason for Template:Unreliable source? to exist if it required to have consensus or be listed at WP:ALBUMAVOID, because if it were deemed unreliable by consensus, we could remove it outright. Ss112 08:40, 4 October 2018 (UTC)
Forgive me forgetting a passing comment I made 2.5 years ago? Still unclear of your exact concern here besides playing “gotcha” - are you proposing this publication said this non-controversially considered metal band recorded a metal song in order to sell tickets or something? Do they sell tickets by calling Eminem a rapper perhaps too? Regardless, if you’re that bent out of shape, I’m sure I can just find another source. Sergecross73 msg me 11:13, 4 October 2018 (UTC)

Page moving

Can you do me a favor and move the new "grunge bands" to "list of grunge bands"? The latter currently redirects to grunge, and that article used to have the present list at "grunge bands", but we removed it to help trim the massive size of the genre article. I can't do it myself. dannymusiceditor oops 17:45, 4 October 2018 (UTC)
