Dooly State Prison

hello! thank you for your feedback! as you know i am student and still learning everything about wikipedia. I will look back at the information i added and if i need to add more i will use the guidelines, which i will also go back and read. again thank you, you were very helpful. Jessrojas (talk) 22:59, 5 April 2017 (UTC)

Please take the time to review the article once again. I have changed entire section. and added some information. I might have some confusion on being able to use exact information from articles which i have placed in quotations marks. i hope i didn't violate any guidelines with my changes. thanks for your help! i will also tag my professor on this post Mkassorla Jessrojas (talk) 00:49, 6 April 2017 (UTC)

  • The changes you made to the article this time were very good - they were succinct and to the point. I made a few slight tweaks, but most of that was just to link to other articles. This edit was well done. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 03:40, 6 April 2017 (UTC)

Dooly State Prison

Thank you for your feedback. I am working with a group and we all have different sections we are working on. Everyone is going into detail within their sections. Do you have any suggestions on how I could give all the information I need to but not be too detailed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Geraytenia (talkcontribs) 12:57, 6 April 2017 (UTC)

  • Geraytenia It mainly depends on what you're adding - for example, with the visitation schedule we could have the days that people can come, but the hours would be too much. It's more about the details than anything, as the article is meant to be more of an overview of the prison than anything else. There's not really a lot that can be added as far as visitation goes, unfortunately. Do you have to have a certain amount of words or content in the article? The Balconies of Lima draft

Historical overview of Lima’s colonial architecture

• Colonial architecture in the Viceroyalty of Peru developed in the 16th to the 19th century, when the Latin American nation was conquered by the Spaniards (Donnahue-Wallace). Two styles emerged as a result of European influence: Renaissance and Baroque.

• The Baroque architecture of this period, characterized by exuberance and heavy ornamentation, is prevalent. In the 18th century, the Rococo style permeated in Lima, as a result of French influence. This style embraced ornamentation and playful themes.

• The Arabs also influenced Peruvian architecture. However, this was lost when modern styles were adopted in Lima (Smith and Bley).

The original social purpose of balconies and their construction

• Balconies are known to merge the interior and exterior spaces, a feature borrowed from Islamic architecture. The balconies in Lima have been compared to “streets in the sky”, a link between private homes and Limeño streets. Antonio de la Calancha and Juan Meléndez first used the term, writing, “They are so many and too large that they seem to be streets on the air” (Smith and Bley).

• Wooden balconies in Lima called miradors were inherited from Moorish traditions, as the Moors occupied Southern Spain (Donnahue-Wallace). The term mirar translates to “to look” in Spanish, indicating that the balconies give the residents an extensive view of the scenery (Bloom and Blair). The wooden balconies projecting at upper levels also allow for privacy and air circulation, an essential feature for buildings in warmer countries (Bloom and Blair).

• Although the balconies were originally built to shield women of nobility from voyeuristic gazes, they were also sites of amorous encounters. Charles Walker has interpreted the balconies as a manifestation of social power dynamics, as they illustrate the distinction between individuals of different classes (Smith and Bley).

Different types of balconies • Balconies in Lima were built in the Renaissance, Baroque, Neo-Baroque and Neoclassical styles and clearly had Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Moorish, Andalusian and Caribbean influences (Fishburn). Balconies of the 15th–17th century are noted for their openness, while balconies built after that period are more closed.

• The main features of the balconies are its lattice, still and baluster. Non-rounded balconies were introduced in Spain in the 18th century. Seville tiles and mosaics are used in the construction of the balconies.

Restoration effects of balconies Impact of Earthquakes • The earthquakes of 1655, 1687, 1746 and 1940 destroyed many of the old colonial structures in Lima designed by Francisco Pizarro (Smith and Bley). The occurrence of the earthquakes gave rise to closed or “box” balconies which are sturdy. This trend changed during the Republican period, after the war of independence.

• Bruno Roselli, a Florentine art history professor, was known as the defender of balconies in Lima. After the earthquake of 1940, Roselli endeavored to salvage numerous balconies, many of which were of the 17th and 18th century styles.

• During the 1980s, when the balconies’ future was of pressing concern, the question of their ‘historic’ quality emerged. In Memoria y utopia de la vieja Lima, the balconies were seen as essential for the preservation of Lima’s historic core (Fishburn).

Adopt a balcony • The restoration of Lima’s balconies were spearheaded by Alberto Andrade, mayor from 1996 to 2002. His “Adopt a Balcony” program saw various foreign embassies, companies and individuals partaking in preserving the balconies. His efforts have been crucial in Lima regaining its reputation as a “City of Balconies”, a term first coined by architect Adolfo Vargas (Elton).

Balconies in popular culture

• Mario Vargas Llosa’s play, “The Madmen of the Balconies”, is centered around the balconies. Its protagonist, Aldo Brunelli attempts to salvage the balconies from being destroyed. (Llosa) Brunelli’s name is an amalgamation of that of Bruno Roselli, a Florentine professor of art history. Evelyn Fishburn has noted that the play provides a good overview of the defenders of history and those who push for modernism.

Need help request from Azee2 (talk)

Hello.

I need help with... sources

--Azee2 (talk) 13:37, 8 April 2017 (UTC)

  • Azee2 Sure - are you having trouble finding sources? I note that you're working on Alpha education. What you will need to find to establish notability would be to locate independent reliable sources that mention Alpha Education in depth. This could be something like a news article that discusses the organization's purposes and history. Be careful, as a source that only briefly mentions the organization would be seen as a WP:TRIVIAL source and anything that has been released by the organization or people and organizations affiliated with them would be seen as WP:PRIMARY (self-referencing) sources. Finally, also be cautious about sourcing about people affiliated with the organization. If the article is specifically about the organization or things that they've done with someone, then that should be able to help some depending on the type of source, but if it's only briefly mentioned in passing about something else the person has done, then that would be seen as a trivial source. Need help request from Classybluepower (talk)

Hello.

I need help with figuring out what happened to my user sandbox after I moved it to the Wikipedia page "Privacy in Education." First, I was in my user sandbox. Then, I went to the "More" tab and selected "Move." Then, I changed the settings to "Article" and wrote the article name in the blank space: "Privacy in Education." I then selected "Move." After that, my sandbox became my new Wikipedia page. However, the notice on the top of the page says that "This page is a user sandbox of Privacy in Education." I'm sure that notice is not supposed to be there. I returned to my sandbox link and found that nothing was there except for a line of information saying that the page had moved.

How do I recover my user sandbox? Did I move my sandbox incorrectly to a new page? I simply wanted to move content from my sandbox to a new page but I feel that my sandbox is not there anymore, and the page I created is not an official Wikipedia page. Please let me know what I can do to fix things.Classybluepower (talk) 07:32, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

--Classybluepower (talk) 07:32, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

As far as the article goes, I feel that it's too early to move the page as you didn't have any sourcing in the article itself. You have some sourcing on the talk page, but not as a citation in the article. Before you move this back live, you need to add these into the article and flesh it out a little more to help explain the idea and to show how the concept of privacy in education is notable. You have a good start here, but it feels unfinished. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 08:04, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

Need help request from Snflwr690 (talk)

Hello.

I need help with...the organization of PER3. I'm wondering if the basic information (history, function, and gene sections) should go together, followed by more complicated information like controversy and clinical significance. On the other hand, the Gene section doesn't seem to be as important to the typical Wikipedia user, so I wonder if that should go last.

--Snflwr690 (talk) 01:32, 13 April 2017 (UTC)

  • I think that sounds like a good idea. The average user would be someone coming in to learn about PER3, so in order to better understand the controversy and clinical significance they should first peruse the "about" sections. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 12:44, 14 April 2017 (UTC)

Thank You and Feedback Please from Classybluepower (talk)

Hello.

I need help with...looking over my current article draft in the Privacy in Education page. Thank you for helping me to move my article back into my sandbox. I have created a more fleshed out draft with sections, paragraphs, and citations. Please let me know if this is a good start for a Wikipedia article.

Also, I noticed that after I moved the content from my sandbox to the Privacy in Education mainspace, the top notice still says that the article is not an encyclopedia article. Is there any way that this can be fixed and the article can become an encyclopedia article?

--Classybluepower (talk) 20:57, 13 April 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi! The box at the top is just there to mark the page as a draft - a work in progress. It's meant to notify anyone that may come across the page that it's something that you're still working on (at least until the page is moved live) and that sections may be incomplete and so on. I think that the page is good so far, but I would continue to expand it and especially add sources. Some of the beginning is completely unsourced, which means it may be challenged by other editors. It also needs to be added to categories - you can see examples of what categories would apply in the related articles that you linked, especially expectation of privacy. --Yantingzou (talk) 22:44, 16 April 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Yantingzou! It looks like someone reverted your edits with this edit, which is why the material didn't stay on the page. After you edit another user can go in and modify or even remove the edits entirely. Speaking of which, I reverted this edit, where you had put a strike through a crowd sourced definition published by the PRSA. This didn't remove the quote from the page, but the other thing to take into consideration is that the claim made in the article isn't exactly incorrect. It was a definition the PRSA received via a contest, but it was technically something they published after it was chosen. I changed the lead to that definition to give a better explanation of how they came about that quote. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 03:21, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

Hello.

I need help with... Thank you for telling me that, i'm not sure about "someone revert my edit with this edit" means, and can you tell me how to deal with this problem?

Best, yantingzou

--Yantingzou 05:22, 17 April 2017 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yantingzou (talkcontribs)

  • Hi! What this means is that anyone can edit an article to remove or add content to an article. In other words, I can add content to the article for Pocahontas and someone can come behind me and remove that content at any point after that. The reasons for someone removing content can vary - sometimes people may think that the added content is incorrect while in other cases they may remove it because it's unsourced. These are not the only two reasons why material can be removed, just two of the most common examples.
In the case of your edit, I think that it was more that the content was unsourced and slightly unclear, which is actually pretty common. When I first began editing Wikipedia I did the same thing. I've changed the writing slightly - if you want to use my changes, feel free.
Public relations has existed in various forms and fashions throughout the years and could be seen in ancient civilizations in places such as Sumer, Babylon, Greece, and Rome. Some types of public relations that people may be asked to perform can include interpersonal communication, publicity, or organizing special events. These acts have the same results and expectations as most public relations, even if the acts may not be labeled as such.
This gets the same point across, but in a slightly more formal fashion. It will need to be cited, if possible. Another option you may want to try is to open up a discussion on the talk page of the article and/or on the user's talk page to see if you can get some feedback from the other person (Kuru) on why they reverted your edits. Most editors are more than happy to do this and give a helpful explanation as to their reasons for reverting. The editor in question, Kuru, is a site admin and as such should be able to expand some on what I've written here. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 06:36, 17 April 2017 (UTC)

Hello.

I need help with... The page I was working on diapered when I saved it to the "save page" Can you help me?

--Bobwurst (talk) 17:15, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Bobwurst! I know that Wikipedia went through some maintenance recently, so that may have impacted you trying to save your page. Unfortunately if the page didn't save then the edit history will not be saved. As a way to help ensure that the work will be saved, sometimes I'll work on a page in a Word document and then cut/paste it into Wikipedia. I'll use the sandbox sometimes as well, but I'll try to save early and often, as the old Sierra computer games motto went. Is there anything I can help with this? Need help request from Portiz115 (talk)

Hello.

I need help with how do I create a new section for sandbox ? Portiz115 (talk) 18:36, 21 April 2017 (UTC)

--Portiz115 (talk) 18:36, 21 April 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Portiz115! To start a new section at User:Portiz115/sandbox, what you can do is select the "edit" tab (if you are using Visual Editor) tag at the top of the page. This will open the page in Visual Editor and what you want to look at is the paragraph portion of this. Clicking on the paragraph option will bring up the following things:

To create a new section you want to select "Heading", as that will create an entirely new section. If you wanted to create subsections below that, you can use the other heading right beneath that and so on. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 02:27, 23 April 2017 (UTC)

--Eris Pinto (talk) 22:27, 21 April 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Eris Pinto, you can get this article to your sandbox by cutting and pasting the content by highlighting the text you want and pressing CTRL and C. From there you go to your sandbox page, open it in Visual Editor mode (the easiest mode) and then press CTRL and V to paste the content. You can then save the content, but make sure that you put down in your edit summary that you are copying this from the live version of the article in order to edit it in your sandbox. You can find your sandbox at User:Eris Pinto/sandbox. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 02:29, 23 April 2017 (UTC)

Need help request from Beastly334 (talk)

Hello.

I need help with shutdown.exe. I edited the page and had an interaction with another user. He wants to merge the page with shutdown(computing). What should I do?

--Beastly334 (talk) 15:07, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Beastly334! Offhand it's probably best to merge the content into the main article, which I see that you've already done in anticipation of a merge. Right now the only thing left to do is to wait for the merge request to close. It's unfortunate that your page couldn't remain, but you are doing the right things with the merge proposal and the content you've added should be very helpful to the shutdown (computing) page. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:44, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

Need help request from Jcudi (talk)

Hello.

I need help with... paraphrasing, I did the training and all the information I have so far is from the game directly. It's hard to paraphrase because the game gives stats in the shortest way possible such as "low health, low damage". So I don't know how to add that without it sounding like close paraphrasing like I have in my draft already.

--Jcudi (talk) 15:15, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Jcudi! From what I can see with your edits, it looks like you want to expand the article for Army of Darkness: Defense, right? I think that your best option here is to give a very general overview of the power-ups, meaning that you only write 1-2 sentences that are along the lines of "Players can replenish their health by using in-game items such as..." and/or "Players have the ability to perform actions such as restoring health, powering up their (insert item here), or upgrade weapons via items they obtain via battle or by purchasing in-game funds." (This last part is if the game is a freemium game.) I think that this was what you had in mind, but I just wanted to make sure.
Now as far as paraphrasing goes, you shouldn't add too many of the game stats to the article since that can seem like a game guide. On your sandbox I see that you have a section on the game characters. I would remove the in-game description offhand, the portions you have in quotes. I would then have a few subsections to the main section for characters. First you would list the named characters, such as Ash, Arthur, and Henry. You can give a very small description of their character in the game. For example, if Arthur is based on King Arthur, you could mention this. The next section would have the other characters, which you would describe in very broad terms like this:
In the game the player can command members of Ash's army that will battle opposing troops, such as peasants, spearmen, and archers, or provide support services, such as the Wiseman. Some of these characters can only be unlocked as the player progresses throughout the game and requires a certain amount of material to spawn. The amount of material required to spawn a certain type of character correlates with that character's health and strength."
This would give a general overview of the characters without having to really go into a lot of minutiae. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 17:59, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

Ali Mustafa

Shalor,

I was wondering if you could help me by making a disambiguation page for Ali Mustafa. Currently, if you search for Ali Mustafa, the search is directed to Ali F. Mustafa. who is a filmmaker. My student has published the article Ali Mustafa (journalist).

Thank you, 21:26, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Crtew! I'm going to try to compile a list of people with the same name for this page. So far it looks like it would have the following:
Ali F. Mostafa, Ali Mustafa (journalist), Ali Mustafa Baghdady, Ali Mohammed Mustafa, and Abu Ali Mustafa
I'll start it with this and see if anything else gets added over time. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 12:53, 25 April 2017 (UTC)

Need help request from Suada sahnic (talk)

Hello.

I need help with...how to leave notes in Sandbox under article evaluation?

--Suada sahnic (talk) 02:59, 26 April 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Suada sahnic, there are two ways that you can do this. The first would be to open the sandbox itself in edit mode and make a comment in the same manner that you would if you were editing an article. This can, however, sometimes be confusing because it's harder to keep these orderly and can sometimes make it more difficult to edit. The other way, which is what I would recommend, would be to go to the sandbox's talk page (you can see yours here) and click "New Section" at the top of the page. This will open up a window where you will be able to write your notes and leave feedback for the sandbox. Make sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~) so that the other editor can know who is leaving the notes. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 06:29, 26 April 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for rescuing this. I left a note on the instructor's page: have these students been given any guidance at all as to how to write for Wikipedia? Or even a suggestion that they look around the encyclopedia and model their work on good examples? It was such a poor article that I couldn't even really stub-sort it beyond "bio-stub". PamD 06:54, 28 April 2017 (UTC)

  • No problem. I'll check on the other students' pages and see how they're doing edit-wise. I know that they've been through training modules, so I may recommend that they revisit them if there are a lot of issues. I'm kind of surprised on that article's content as well, honestly. I think that it may have been a note they were writing to themselves and put in the wrong area - that does tend to happen quite a lot. Thank you for nominating this for PROD and not AfD or speedy, as PRODs really do give students a good amount of time to fix issues. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 09:28, 28 April 2017 (UTC)
  • Just checked the course page - it looks like this week was essentially evaluating articles and coming up with ideas, so this was likely something he meant to post in his sandbox. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 09:30, 28 April 2017 (UTC)

Hello.

I need help with...

I'm done creating this page and would like to get it up and live. What else should I do? Or do you need to review it? Thanks!

--A gilmore (talk) 17:37, 29 April 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi A gilmore! It looks like you already moved the page, but I'll give you an evaluation still. I would replace this source, which is a self-published source that doesn't appear to have undergone any sort of editorial oversight. Sometimes SPS can be considered reliable, but that's when the site has been cited as an authoritative, reliable source by other reliable sources, such as academic sources. I would also add a teensy bit of information to the section about Trannyshack, since you mention this in the article. Was it started in The Stud? If so, adding a brief little statement such as "which was launched at The Stud" would help show the context. You also don't really have to list the members of the co-op, as this type of thing isn't typically placed in Wikipedia articles, partially because this can make for a very long list and can also occasionally change frequently, depending on the type of business or co-op. (For example, artist collective lineups can be very dynamic, especially in collectives where it's expected that an artist will come and go as they will.) Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 04:39, 30 April 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll add more to the Trannyshack section, just thought I shouldn't go into too much since they have their own page. Also, that blog/unreliable source is actually an article from the Bay Area Reporter from 1994. That is stated at the bottom of the blog. How can I replace that citation with this one, "Freeman, M. (1994). The Stud: A Dreamspace for Queer Angels. The Bay Area Reporter." When I go to edit the page it doesn't list the citations just says reference list. Thanks!! A gilmore (talk) 06:59, 2 May 2017 (UTC)

  • I've fixed it for you - what I did was edit the article in source mode and replace the content in the first source with the material you posted above. I also tweaked the repeated citation tags so it would show up properly as well. You can see the changes with this diff. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 07:17, 2 May 2017 (UTC)

"Hi Calton, I'm the content expert for your course..."

No disrespect, but how carefully are you reading the postings? I am not part of any course, I'm the editor who left the notice regarding the proposed deletion.

Also, I have to wonder about the advice you're giving: you seem more focused on advising students on how to "save" articles than on advising them whether the topics are suitable for Wikipedia in the first place. --Calton | Talk 16:41, 30 April 2017 (UTC)

  • Sorry, I had cut/pasted your name to mention elsewhere in the content and forgot that I'd cut/pasted your name instead of the student's name. As far as advising the students goes, I want them to try saving the article rather than abandoning it because while sure, sometimes students pick topics that do not meet notability guidelines, sometimes they do and encouraging them to dig more can result in them saving the article. I don't like telling students to give up on something entirely, not if there's even a slim chance that they could improve the article. Not only could this seriously demoralize them, but it could also result in the deletion of a page about something or someone that could ultimately pass notability guidelines, if only the student went back and tried a deeper search for sources. I do want to specify that when I say "demoralize" I don't mean that any article issues should be overlooked, rather that I want them to be encouraged to work harder to improve the page. I did warn the student that the professor may not pass NPROF and if it ends up that the page ultimately doesn't pass, then it doesn't pass - but I want them to try first. • Hi Hummeldonivan! When you're editing, are you editing your sandbox or another page? I see where you've made an edit here on your talk page. I would recommend that you edit at User:Hummeldonivan/sandbox, as you should be able to edit that page using Visual Editor, which is more user friendly for new editors. In any case, all the minor edit button means is that you are making a small edit, like fixing a typo. The box being checked or unchecked shouldn't have an effect on your editing. If you're running into other issues, can you e-mail me at shalor@wikiedu.org with a screenshot of what you're seeing? Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 04:38, 1 May 2017 (UTC)

Plagiarism Violation

Hi! I am the student that edited the Chamalal page and got a plagiarism violation. Since there are so few resources on this language, and I have to improve the stub, I was not sure how else to get the information to do so. Could I possibly cite every line? That way, I would not be passing off the work as my own, but I could still improve the article.

Thanks so much. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Devadirad (talkcontribs) 14:07, 2 May 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Devadirad! The only way you can use the source content word for word is if you are quoting the source itself. Other than that, all content must be in your own words or it would still be seen as plagiarism, even if you cited the source at the end of the sentence. • Let me know if you want any help coming up with ways to rephrase content - I know that it can be difficult sometimes. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 04:34, 3 May 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Jennyhaley96! I've moved the content back to your sandbox, so it's no longer its own page on Wikipedia. I looked over your additions to Women in ancient Rome and they look good, but I did have a question about the term photo-wife. I'm unfamiliar with this term - is this akin to a trophy wife? Need help request from Apantoja658 (talk)

Hello.

I need help with... how to add information to an article in Wikipedia

--Apantoja658 (talk) 16:51, 9 May 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Apantoja658! To add content to an article all you need to do is click the "edit" or "edit source" button at the top of an article or for a specific section in an article. I would recommend, however, that before you start making edits, that you practice on your sandbox. Make sure that when you edit you look to see what needs adding and that you source your additions, if you're adding new content. Something that you may want to consider doing as practice would be to look for parts in an article that have "{{citationneeded}}" next to them. For example with the article physical exercise there is the statement "Sometimes the terms 'dynamic' and 'static' are used.", which has this tag next to it. Rather than adding in new sentences, it can be good practice to find a source that backs up this claim.
I did notice that you had tried to add content to physical exercise and it was removed both times, which I know can be discouraging. In this situation what happened is that the content you added seemed like it was more of an editorial comment, meaning that it seemed that you were giving a personal opinion rather than adding in new encyclopedic topic. It also looks like a similar remark is already in the article's lead paragraph, so it's not really necessary to add this to the article. ("It may also help prevent stress and depression, increase quality of sleep and act as a non-pharmaceutical sleep aid to treat diseases such as insomnia, help promote or maintain positive self-esteem, improve mental health, maintain steady digestion and treat constipation and gas, regulate fertility health, and augment an individual's sex appeal or body image, which has been found to be linked with higher levels of self-esteem.")
I hope that none of this discourages you - making those first edits can be pretty difficult at first. I remember that a lot of my initial edits were removed from Wikipedia after I added them, to be honest. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 03:56, 10 May 2017 (UTC)

FSW State College course / article: coral bleaching

Wikipedia:Wiki Ed/FSW State College/ENC 1102 M-W (Spring) sorry to bother you… Student Sidneyt512 wrote a very good article on coral bleaching for Wikipedia. The article is still in his sandbox. I am just curious if he/you/? are going to implement it in the Wikipedia mainspace. I saw that your project finished end of April, which is why I'm asking. While I know that changing articles in Wikipedia can be a challenging process, I would really appreciate if Sydneyt 512's article would find its way into the Wikipedia mainspace - not only does WP seriously need an improvement on that article (I put the QC banner up there), but I feel it would also matter a great deal to the student… doing something for real, not just a grade - at least that's what I am thinking. If for some reason, that is not an option, I would suggest moving his whole draft to the coral bleaching talk page and move it bit by bit into the article. What do you think?

CRPBIS

Hi SHalor,

Thank you for the feedback. But I have to disagree with you. Culturally Responsive Positive Behavior and Supports is actually connected to PBIS. The implementation of this project is established in schools that currently implement pbis.

Hi, I'm the content expert for your class and your instructor asked me to give you some feedback. Before I start, I will say that I have removed the content for a few reasons, which I'll go into below.

My first concern was that you are discussing something different from what the parent article CRPBIS discusses. That article is about the Culturally Responsive Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports project, while your section appears to cover a different thing, Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. There are two different websites for each as well, CRPBIS and PBIS. They also appear to be run by different organizations and operate on different levels - PBIS is run by the National Technical Assistance Center on Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports and operates on the national level, while CRPBIS is run by the Wisconsin Center for Education Research and appears to cover only four schools (likely all within the state of Wisconsin). While the two do seem to be very similar, it's not really appropriate to put both of them in the same article since they're considered two separate things that work in the same area of education and as such, would be considered two different topics entirely. I also noted that occasionally you switched between CRPBIS and PBIS, so be careful that you're referring to just one of the two. It would be a good idea, while you're going over your sandbox article, that you make sure that your research only covers CRPBIS, if that's the project you want to write about.

Thirdly, the content was written like a literature review, which is considered to be an academic paper style rather than the encyclopedic style used on Wikipedia. You will need to re-write this in order to make it fit Wikipedia's WP:MoS. I've done a little tweaking in your sandbox to help with this, mostly just re-naming the section titles and removing the abstract, which we don't use in Wikipedia articles.

Other than those issues it does appear that you have a good start here - you just need to edit it so it more greatly resembles a Wikipedia article and so that it only covers one topic. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 05:29, 3 May 2017 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cwhitmore84 (talkcontribs)

  • From what I saw, they looked to be two separate organizations/initatives, as the article on CRPBIS focused specifically on the initiative by the same name that was run by the University of Wisconsin. If you want the article to be about the more general idea, you'll need to write the article to reflect on the overall concept rather than the university specific initiative. If they are run by the same people, you need to find sourcing that explicitly backs this up and says something along the lines of "In (insert date) the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs paired with the University of Wisconsin to create the CRPBIS initiative, which built off the PBIS initiative, which was launched in (insert year)." If they have similar researchers or educators that have worked on both initiatives, you can phrase it something like "So-and-so worked on PBIS and in (date) began working with the University of Wisconsin on CRPBIS, which expanded on PBRIS by...". However if this is the case, you may want to look into merging the two articles if their basic structure is otherwise the same. My basic thing is that while the two concepts are connected, the initiatives themselves are by two different groups and since there's already a page for PBIS, you don't need to place the general information on PBIS in the article. If they are run through the same groups, you can of course include the information as it pertains to how CRPBIS came about - the main thing is that the sources must be specifically about CRPBIS and PBIS coming together as opposed to PBIS only content. • Hi Anamelissaah! I see that you've started editing on your sandbox, so did you still need help? If you're asking how you can start creating a draft article, you can do this by sectioning off a portion of the page for the draft, by giving it a header. Hello.

I need help with... uh, my entire life right now, actually, but I'll limit my question to wiki related items. First, I am trying to add a picture of Ms Attia. I'm not sure if I'm approaching it the right way; in the studentfaq forum I only saw questions about book covers... Anyway, I have followed the template -- I think -- but when I preview, I only see the link as text and not as an actual jpg. Also, is my link correctly formatted to New York State Psychiatric Institute? And why are my reference link #'s seemingly floating all by themselves in some kind of purgatory? I have not a clue how to resolve. Thank you in advance so much for your help! Any suggestions you might have would be most graciously accepted!

Best, Jonesy5116Jonesy5116 (talk) 02:28, 4 June 2017 (UTC)

--Jonesy5116 (talk) 02:28, 4 June 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Jonesy5116! Wikipedia can't link to images in that fashion (which is a shame at times), so the only way to show an image is to upload it to Wikipedia. Unfortunately the only images that we likely have access to are ones that are copyrighted, meaning that they can't be uploaded to Wikipedia per the site guidelines.
Now as far as citations go, the easiest way to add citations is to use Visual Editor, which should show up as an "edit" tab. Editing in source mode should show up as "edit source". If you don't have it enabled you can go here and go to the pulldown menu, where you should select "show me both editor tabs" and then press the save button. This will give you access to both source and Visual Editor editing.
That said, I do want to caution you about picking a topic (in this case a person) - you need to make sure that the person you're writing about has been covered in independent and reliable sources. WP:PRIMARY sources like the organization website and brief sources like the wedding announcement won't be able to show notability on here. This can be difficult to show for a lot of academic and medical professionals since they usually don't get a lot of coverage in the media or in other places that could potentially be seen as a reliable source on Wikipedia. Leading two major organizations and putting out work can help make it more likely that she'll pass notability guidelines but it's not always a guarantee, as WP:NACADEMIC is frequently one of the hardest guidelines to pass on here. Your best bet is to try to find where her work has been covered in academic sources and the news, offhand. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 21:36, 4 June 2017 (UTC)

Pedagogy of Hope

~~Hi Shalor! I am a student and created the Pedagogy of Hope page for a class. I was just wondering why so much of it got deleted? I noticed you said it was too long and too much "OR". I don't understand how it can be too long--nor do I understand what OR means.

Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lenaisadora (talkcontribs) 15:15, 13 June 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Lenaisadora! I had removed the content because the synopsis was too long - most synopses should be about 3 paragraphs and shouldn't have a chapter by chapter breakdown. Parts of it also looked to be written like an academic paper or reflection essay, with phrasing like "Weaving the narrative of his life". It's very nicely put and poetic, but it doesn't really fit into the WP:NPOV and WP:MoS with Wikipedia. The main reason for removing the content was really that the synopsis was too long, though. --~~YUEYAO GUO~~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yueyao guo (talkcontribs) 13:37, 22 June 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Yueyao guo! What would you like to write about? I see that your teacher doesn't have any specific requirements as far as topic goes, so you can pick just about anything as long as it passes notability guidelines. Picking a topic that already has an article is also an option, as there are many articles out there that need work. You may want to write about something that you enjoy, as this can sometimes make it easier to get into creating new content.
Now I did notice on the Dashboard page that you expressed an interest in editing the article for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China. If you are fluent in Chinese then this could be an excellent project for you to do rather than write an entirely new article from scratch, as there is quite a bit of content on the Chinese Wikipedia that isn't present on the English Wikipedia entry. This is actually a pretty common problem with Wikipedia, as there aren't always available editors who are fluent enough to translate, so there are usually a large amount of pages needing translation. To give you an idea of how prevalent the issue is, here is a list of pages needing translation from the Chinese Wikipedia. (Also a good place to look in case you wanted to pick something else out.) You aren't obligated to translate, of course, but this would make for a good project.
As far as creating pages go, the article wizard provides some step by step help. You can also work on creating an article in your sandbox, as this would give you a place to work on the page at your leisure and make test edits. I hope this helps! Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 16:56, 22 June 2017 (UTC)

Need help request from Zkor (talk)

Hello.

I need help with... Expanding what I currently have in my draft and making sure it is not redundant.

--Zkor (talk) 04:37, 23 June 2017 (UTC)thank you Zachary korosh

  • Hi Zkor - are you planning on using the content for principles to expand that section? If so, I think that your portion could start as the lead to that, since it gives a basic summary that the other two paragraphs would expand. The features section looks good, the only thing I noted writing-wise was that I didn't really understand what you meant by "within" with this sentence: "Rather than build world models, behavior-based robots simply react to their environment and problems within." I think that what you mean is that non-behavior based robots don't hold on to past experiences and will have to play through the same scenarios (ie, "worlds") to resolve a problem, whereas BBR would learn from a problem, store the information, and then draw upon that internal knowledge/experience in the future rather than spend the extra time doing everything from scratch. Is this right? I wasn't sure, so you may want to clarify this a little.
In any case, the main thing you need right now are reliable sources to back up the claims in your proposed additions since unsourced claims are at risk of being removed. Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 16:34, 23 June 2017 (UTC)

Hello.

what would be the first step that i should take to start editing this content?Bassilabualkhon (talk) 18:52, 24 June 2017 (UTC)

--Bassilabualkhon (talk) 18:52, 24 June 2017 (UTC)

  • Hi Bassilabualkhon! It looks like you're interested in editing the article Self-care deficit nursing theory, right? The first thing to do is to read the article. Is there anything missing that's vital to the understanding of the topic? Are there any statements that are marked with [citation needed]? Is there anything in the article that's unsourced or sourced with an extremely questionable source? Is everything in the article clear and understandable or could it be re-written to be more user-friendly? IE, is it written in layman's terms?
Looking at the article shows that it's severely undersourced, as it only has three in-line citations at this point in time. (One of which was added by you, another by one of your classmates, good job!) All three are good sources, but the article could definitely use more. Sourcing is honestly one of the best things that editors can do for an article, as it helps show that the material is verifiable and accurate - as well as help prove that the topic is notable.
My recommendations would be to do some research and find more sourcing in the article. I would also recommend working on a re-write of the article in your sandbox or at User:Bassilabualkhon/Self-care deficit nursing theory, since the article is honestly a little unclear as to what the topic actually is. I've worked in a health care environment and I didn't really understand what the article was talking about until about 2/3 of the way in - and the average person should be able to get the basic gist of the topic in the lead paragraph. Since it looks like KLC123 is also interested in working on the article, you may want to team up with them for this. You could keep the article draft in one person's sandbox or userspace and then both of you work on any changes to text there. (It's usually better to work on a draft in your userspace if you're going to re-write an article, just because you can take more time to think out what you're going to write.)
Hopefully this helps! Let me know if you need anything! Shalor (Wiki Ed) (talk) 20:01, 25 June 2017 (UTC)

Article evaluation

The Article I have read and evaluated is "Bacchanalia", dealing with the ancient Roman festivals of Bacchus. The article is well-organized and it starts from the background & origin to how the festivals reformed to how historians like Livy interpreted this kind of religious events, and it finally ends up with modern usage. Most of the contents are relevant and neutral. The references are reliable and cited properly with some of the links available and claims supporting the article. By looking at the Talk page of this article I find this article a part of the WikiPorject for Classical Greece and Rome and is rated as High-importance on the project's importance scale. There are discussions under the Talk page, with some of them talking about the contents and others talking about the citation issues. Also, there is author's replies to indicate several revisions. So in this way, Wikipedia discuss the topic differently from the way we talk about it in class by collaborating online resources and people discussions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jiarui Liang (talkcontribs) 22:25, 7 July 2017 (UTC)

I need help with...

I was wondering if you could give me some feedback on the new content I plan to add to the article. In my sandbox I have address some of the issues I plan to change but I have also started typing some information I want to add to French Language. Is this information clear to the reader? Also, much of the information I have added I believe to be "dictionary" or "common" knowledge. I address many of the basic rules of French grammar that can be found on thousands of websites and any textbook. Am I correct in thinking that this type of information does not need to be cited? This information is not anybody else's work or creation, it is knowledge known by anyone who speaks the language. Information that I have added regarding studied and published ideas I have cited.

Thank you, Ashley

  • Hi Ashleyhpace! I think that the common knowledge information could be helpful, as Wikipedia tends to get a lot of readers visiting pages where they have little to no knowledge of what they're reading. The main thing with this would be to make sure that you get the information across, but also remain relatively brief in what you're describing. It doesn't need to go into a lot of detail, but some explanation would be good. You may want to do some examples akin to how they have examples in the numerals sections - I know that this can be pretty common with articles and can also be a good way of backing up the claims. The information you have so far is good - I would recommend linking to the articles for some terms like pluperfect so that readers can click on those if they want more info, but that's not something you really have to do until later, of course. Please advise how this is done.

Many thanks!
