Speedy deletion of "Erique dial"

[edit]

A page you created, Erique dial, has been tagged for deletion, as it meets one or more of the criteria for speedy deletion; specifically, it is about a real person, group of people, band, club, company, organisation, or web content, but does not indicate why its subject is important or significant.

You are welcome to contribute content which complies with our content policies and any applicable inclusion guidelines. However, please do not simply re-create the page with the same content. You may also wish to read our introduction to editing and guide to writing your first article.

Thank you. Jim1138 (talk) 08:52, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Concerning your contribution, Erique dial, please note that Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted text or images obtained from other web sites or printed material, without the permission of the author(s). This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://classicchicagohouse.com/sunlight-spot-erique-dial/. As a copyright violation, Erique dial appears to qualify for deletion under the speedy deletion criteria. Erique dial has been tagged for deletion, and may have been deleted by the time you see this message.

If you believe that the article or image is not a copyright violation, or if you have permission from the copyright holder to release the content freely under the Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License (CC-BY-SA) then you should do one of the following:

  • If you have permission from the author, leave a message explaining the details at Talk:Erique dial and send an email with the message to permissions-en@wikimedia.org. See Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for instructions.
  • If a note on the original website states that it is licensed under the CC-BY-SA license, leave a note at Talk:Erique dial with a link to where we can find that note.
  • If you hold the copyright to the material: send an e-mail from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org or a postal message to the Wikimedia Foundation permitting re-use under the CC-BY-SA and GFDL, and note that you have done so on Talk:Erique dial.

However, for textual content, you may simply consider rewriting the content in your own words. While contributions are appreciated, Wikipedia must require all contributors to understand and comply with its copyright policy. Wikipedia takes copyright concerns very seriously, and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Thank you. JohnCD (talk) 09:12, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that even if the copyright issue were resolved, the promotional tone of a company or personal website is likely to be unsuitable for an encyclopedia article, which requires a neutral point of view.
Article subjects need to have notability, which is not a matter of opinion but has to be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." There is more detail at WP:Notability (people) and for musical performers WP:MUSICBIO, and good advice on how to write an acceptable article at WP:Your first article. JohnCD (talk) 09:14, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Erique dial requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Mediran talk 12:37, 17 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not write or add to an article about yourself, as you apparently did at Erique dial. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to an existing article about yourself, please propose the changes on its talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was my page deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss it with the deleting administrator. Thank you. Advice as promised

[edit]

Wikipedia is not a Myspace/Facebook/LinkedIn sort of site for people to write about themselves - that is strongly discouraged, for reasons explained at Wikipedia is not about YOU, Wikipedia:Autobiography and WP:Conflict of interest. Unlike those sites, a Wikipedia article is not owned by anybody, not its first author and certainly not its subject; others can and will edit it, you would not be able to insist on your preferred version, and might encounter Wikipedia's Law of Unintended Consequences.

The requirement to have an article is called Wikipedia:Notability and is not a matter of saying so but of references showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Significant means more than just listing-type mentions; reliable excludes Myspace, Facebook, blogs, places where anyone can post anything; independent excludes the subject's own website, affiliated ones and anything based on press releases. Notability is not acquired by working with notable people. The test is, have people independent of the subject thought it significant enough to write substantial comment about? See also WP:Notability (people), WP:MUSICBIO and WP:42.

If having read those you want to try, first read WP:Your first article for general advice, then go to Help:Userspace draft which will set up a draft page for you with a link to submit it, when ready, to WP:Articles for creation, where it will be checked by experienced users and either it will be accepted or you will be given feedback. Take care to write in a neutral, non-promotional tone and give references to support any claims.
