Peer review[edit]

I have requested that the FSU article be peer reviewed to help ensure it meets the highest standards of Wikipedia.Sirberus 13:04, 13 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize for being unable to help with the overhaul as I have been extremely busy at work. I would like to congratulate you on doing such a wonderful job as I know that the reworking (especially the referencing) had to be a task of biblical proportions. To make it up to you I will give a much needed overhaul of the Spanish-language FSU entry in the future. ¿Esta bien? Mike850 00:40, 4 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Florida State University GA Review[edit]

I will be happy to review Florida State University for GA status. Majoreditor 14:28, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Post a note on my talk page once the article is nominated and I will start the review. Thanks. Majoreditor 14:38, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I selected the article and am beginning the review. Majoreditor 15:12, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The article is looking good; I will try to complete my review tomorrow. Majoreditor 02:04, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations, Florida State University has passed GA Review. The article has room for improvement -- see my comments on the talk page -- but has benefited from your many helpful contributions. Keep up the good work. Majoreditor 03:31, 4 July 2007 (UTC) This user helped to make Florida State University a good article.[reply]

Changes[edit]

I've been through FAC a couple times, so as soon as I saw the state of Florida State University, I went through it and fixed several, several problems. I have no idea how the article managed to get GA in the state it was in, but it's somewhat worthy of its rating now. It could still use some better prose, and certain sections need references. If you have any questions about the changes, leave me a message. Oh, by the way, I also categorized all FSU images I came across into Category:Florida State University. Ideally, all of the free ones will be moved to commons:Category:Florida State University at some point. —Disavian (talk/contribs) 22:26, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am curious about the discrepancies in UF and FSU founding dates. I have intimate knowledge of how and when these were changed by FSU as I was an employee of the school at the time and have spoken at length with TK Wetherall about the change. Additionally I have access to archived UF documents from 1905 which state the founding as 1853. How would one go about making these available and getting the appropriate dates changed.

David Narcomey[edit]

I was developing the article on David Narcomey and unfortunately you deleted it.

Narcomey is important as he is a central figure in the FSU American Indian controversy and is quoted a number of times in articles on the subject in Wikipedia.

I believe that someone so instrumental in a controversy should have some background information available (i.e. an article), especially one so in the forefront of a sensitive matter. Such material helps the reader establish the relevance of the person in the controversy which leads to better interpretation of the controversy. I plan to further develop the article with sourced materials.

Would you kindly undelete the article?Sirberus (talk) 21:19, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please explain which of the criteria at WP:BIO he meets? Please also note WP:BLP1E. Stifle (talk) 21:30, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you consider these criteria on WP:BIO I believe Narcomey is sufficiently notable to warrant an article in Wikipedia:
Basic criteria> Any biography > Narcomey has been mentioned in numerous articles as having made widely recognized contributions to his field, in this case to discrimination events concerning American Indians. He has been quoted multiple times in many articles on many different events, including the controversy at Florida State University. I can list the articles if you want, but a Google search produces a fair number of individual articles wherein Narcomey is mentioned and/or quoted. Narcomey is apparently held by the media at large to be a reliable source of information such that his coverage spans years, multiple media sources and events. Clearly, Narcomey is mentioned in many different articles that are independent of him, verifiable and reliable.
A weakness to my argument is that Narcomey has yet to be found to be the subject of a published writing, but I believe this may be overcome by the fact that without Narcomey and his remarks there would be little of interest in the matter covered that is the subject of the original writing. In other words Narcomey is apparently regarded by multiple, independent media writers to be intimately integral to the subject of discrimination and American Indians. To not include Narcomey in his own right would be like saying Malcolm X was unworthy of his own Wikipedia article during the time of his most active work in the area of race relations, simply because no one had yet put pen to paper and created the work. Sirberus (talk) 00:28, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
A further thought is to simply make the page the page a stub for now. Sirberus (talk) 01:04, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and restore the article and AFD it. Stifle (talk) 14:00, 19 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:FSU protest Tallahassee rc01458.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:FSU protest Tallahassee rc01458.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 02:16, 13 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:N LOGO.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:N LOGO.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Hammersoft (talk) 15:34, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GA Reassessment of Florida State University[edit]

I have done a GA Reassessment of the Florida State University article as part of the GA Sweeps project. My review is here. It is my opinion that the article does not meet the current GA Criteria. There are several dead links, areas of the article that need to be referenced, and a general tone to the article that does not appear neutral. I have placed the article on hold for a week and I am notifying you as the primary editor. Please contact me on my talk page should you have questions. H1nkles (talk) 21:50, 10 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your reply, I'll check back in a week and if you need more time then I can extend the hold. If you would like to discuss particulars of the review please list your thoughts on the article's talk page and I'll respond there. Thanks. H1nkles (talk) 01:17, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, just checking in on this review, I don't see much work done yet. I can extend the hold if necessary. Please advise. H1nkles (talk) 18:13, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
      • Please do extend the hold. I have not been able to direct my energies to the work yet. Thank you for working with me, real life has a way of interfering with priorities on Wikipedia. :-) --Sirberus (talk) 13:00, 21 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Looking for help re: FSU uniforms[edit]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Florida_State_Seminoles_football#Uniform_Combinations There is debate about whether to show every possible combination of FSU uniforms or just the ones that have been used. Basically this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Fsuunis.jpg versus this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:ACC-Uniform-combination-FSU.PNG User Kevin W claims that he is seeking "uniformity" with other college football pages that show every possibly combination, without regard for their actual use. I disagree. Why show combinations that have not and will not be used? As a contributor to the page I am asking for more input and help as others are now agreeing with me but Kevin won't stop. Thanks. Photo of Albert A. Murphree statue on FSU campus[edit]

Sirberus, I wanted to compliment you on your recent photographic addition to the Albert A. Murphree article. I had been questing for a photograph of the Murphree statue on the FSU campus, but having been unable to find anything on any of the official FSU or other related websites I was beginning to doubt its existence. When you took the digital photo you added, did you take any images of the inscription, statue base or related plaque that provides details regarding the statue's origins, the artist or Murphree himself? I would love to add more details to the caption or a footnote . . . . Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 21:44, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks. When I took the photograph I read the plaque at the base but found the inscription unremarkable. It provided the basics about Murphree but little else. When I next visit campus I'll look for artist or other originating information. --Sirberus (talk) 21:00, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • I was on campus the other day and re-examined the Murphree statue. I did not find any information about the artist. The plaque provides some details about Murphree, but nothing we don't already know. --Sirberus (talk) 23:24, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File copyright problem with File:Tbuf_rc01381.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Tbuf_rc01381.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Chris G Bot (talk) 00:45, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:N LOGO.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. File permission problem with File:900 MHz (FSU).jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:900 MHz (FSU).jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Personal Attacks[edit]

Please assume good faith in your dealings with other editors, which you did not on Talk:Flagship and Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/U.S._Flagship_Universities. Assume that they are here to improve rather than harm Wikipedia. You were already warned about this on prior occasions by ElKevbo, Cuchullain, and myself. Thank you. 173.170.235.213 (talk) 11:02, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Knock this crap off. You aren't being attacked, but your references and representations are. I would also have much more good faith if you weren't using an anonymous IP as what appears to be a sockpuppet editor on a controversial article. Sirberus (talk) 11:46, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure the proper response to a post about improper behavior (which you've been warned about by three separate editors) is to call the warning "crap", accuse me of being a sockpuppet, and state that the reason for your violation of WP:AGF is due to my being an IP editor (please read WP:HUMAN). Regardless, please remain civil and refrain from personal attacks in the future. Thank you. 173.170.235.213 (talk) 16:36, 12 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Flagship Reversions[edit]

Hello Sirberus - I saw that you recently reverted edits at Flagship due to an AfC being worked on elsewhere for a subsection of that subject matter. The AfC has no deadline and Wikipedia doesn't have restrictions against improving related pages during the weeks or months that the AfC is being drafted. Per WP:DRNC, please don't revert any edits that can be verified and would be an improvement to a page simply because you disagree with it. If it added unsourced or poorly-sourced information, try to find said information yourself, or failing that, note that in the revert summary. If it made the presentation of material awkward, edit to make the presentation less awkward. If it added a biased statement, try to find a way to recast it into a neutral mode. If it added instructions on how to do something, explain that Wikipedia is not a manual. If it removed content with no explanation or an unconvincing one, note that you are restoring valid content, and why the explanation is unconvincing (if the edit summary box is too small for this, continue on the talk page). Thank you. Eidolonic (talk) 13:10, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Eidolonic, I really don't know why you and anonymous 173.170.235.213 want to push this contentious material so quickly forward. You are essentially asking for the AfC process to be ended and I don't think it is anywhere near ready yet. Further, I am not confining my work in this area to one subsection. This is now twice you two have short-circuited a resolution process set forward by an administrator and WP:DRNC isn't Wikipedia policy, by the way. I don't see what is gained by it as Wikipedia has no deadlines (See: WP:CHILL for more non-Wikipedia policy) and is operated on a consensus basis and by unpaid volunteers (like me). You seem to have a deadline and an agenda and I have to wonder if it has anything to do with the 2013 Florida Legislative Session which ends on May 2. But let's do it your way - we'll abandon the AfC process and I will note your request on the various talk pages. Sirberus (talk) 15:43, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
This whole thing where you accuse anyone who argues with you of having an agenda is getting pretty old. How am I trying to push the AFC forward quickly / how do I seem to have a deadline? I voted with you AGAINST 173's request for the AFC to go live and said that the article wasn't ready. How have I "short-circuited a resolution process set forward by an administrator?" 173's edit to the flagship page added a few parts for both views and filled a gap in what was left. There was no reason to revert it, and that in no way signals my abandonment of the AFC process. Please be mature. And what's going on in Florida's legislative branch that has any bearing on this? Eidolonic (talk) 17:03, 15 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Dude - chill out. This is Wikipedia. Go see what I am writing in the flagship space. I think you'll like it. We can make this good - and stable. P.S. Please tell your bud to get a friggen user name. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Florida State University, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Will and Estate (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Notification of automated file description generation[edit]

Your upload of File:Asolo FSU Sarasota.JPG or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! Orphaned non-free image File:National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (emblem).png[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (emblem).png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 22:19, 27 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Color graphics for Infobox college football player[edit]

3-pixel accent with white text
Florida State Seminoles

Sirberus, here's a sneak peel at how the revamped infobox is going: Template:Infobox college football player/testcases#Joe Cool (typical example). What do you think of the colors, graphics, and layout and design? In particular, how do you like the "college varsity stripe graphics?" Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 17:11, 1 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think it looks good! Thanks. Sirberus (talk) 11:20, 2 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:HeritageTower night 0142 (001).jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:HeritageTower night 0142 (001).jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 23:11, 10 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. A tag has been placed on File:Rc01124.gif requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. FSU & UF Founding Dates[edit]

Found this message buried in unrelated text:

I am curious about the discrepancies in UF and FSU founding dates. I have intimate knowledge of how and when these were changed by FSU as I was an employee of the school at the time and have spoken at length with TK Wetherall about the change. Additionally I have access to archived UF documents from 1905 which state the founding as 1853. How would one go about making these available and getting the appropriate dates changed.
I missed this question as it was buried in with other text. My apologies for my very slow response. I am curious as well and have been for years. Please note it wasn't President T.K. Wetherell that pushed for the FSU date change, it was President Sandy D'Alemberte. In my view, this date issue is a perfect example of Florida Politics - on the State and University level. I don't know why native Floridians get so worked up on this issue, but they do and have been doing so for well over 150 years. I think both FSU and UF share the same origin date of 1851 because they were both created by the same law, which has its origins in a Congressional plan articulated in 1823. What's interesting is that the city fathers of Tallahassee (including Francis Eppes and other area plantation owners) are the force behind the 1823 law. Eppes was a young man at the time and was apparently greatly influenced by his grandfather Thomas Jefferson (who founded the University of Virginia) who believed higher education as a driver of state wealth.
