Why was the page deleted?

Was trying to edit edernity's page. It's an Education company in India. Why was it deleted without taking consensus?

The way it was written was in the manner of advertising copy. For example, it included lines like "FaadCast is a series of podcasts wherein we interview super creative and bold professionals who chose an alternative career path. It features eminent individuals who looked beyond engineering, medical, law etc and were not afraid of dabbling successfully with other forms of unconventional careers." As such it was speedily deleted (see WP:CSD#G11). Stephen! Coming... 17:14, 27 July 2017 (UTC)

Yeah, was there to edit that advertising copy statement. Kindly restore it--will help make it look neutral. Thanks!

Before I do that, you should be aware that the article (as it stood) could also have been deleted as none notable (see WP:CSD#A7). Have a read of WP:ORG to see whether or not you can demonstrate that the organisation meets the notability requirements. If you can demonstrate that, I will happily restore it to an area you can edit it, before moving it into the main area of Wikipedia (see WP:USERFY).
One other thing I need to ask - are you associated with the organisation?
Finally, whenever you post on a talk page (be it on someone's user page or in a discussion), you need to sign your post. You do that by adding 4 tilde symbols (~~~~) after your text. Have a read of WP:SIGN for more help. Stephen! Coming... 17:25, 27 July 2017 (UTC)

I know of them--doing some good work in the field of Education. About noatibility, I guess whatever's been taken seems to be extracted from Zauba Corp, Linkedin and their products' website. Let me edit and see if I can help you deflate the language and find more references for verifiability. Asgard9 (talk) 17:36, 27 July 2017 (UTC)Asgard

I've had a look for Edernity on Google, and I can see nothing on there that demonstrates notability. Unless you can show me it is notable, you really will be wasting your time, so I will hold off restoring it until you can demonstrate notability. Stephen! Coming... 17:42, 27 July 2017 (UTC)

Deletion of article:olubunmi kuku

hi, please i would like you to kindly restore my article, so that it can be improved upon, i am kinda new to wikipedia and would like to be given a chance to build this article up to Wikipedia standards.Tygeera (talk) 17:30, 27 July 2017 (UTC)

You should be aware that the article could have been deleted because of notability issues. Have a read of WP:BIO. If you can demonstrate that the person meets these requirements, then I'll restore the artice to your user area (see WP:userfy) so that you can work on it with less chance of deletion. One other thing - are you connected with Olubunmi Kuku? Stephen! Coming... 17:36, 27 July 2017 (UTC)

well the subject in question was a special adviser to the minister of aviation in nigeria, for a couple of years and has worked in a couple international companies including bank of montreal, she is a notable person in nigeria, also because she got married into a famous nigerian wealthy family, this link is an article of her wedding http://www.theoctopusnews.com/tag/olubunmi-onabanjo/, this link is here during her tenure as special adviser attending an event https://www.bellanaija.com/2011/02/quintessentially-nigeria-launches-exclusive-members-lounge-in-lagos/. And no i am not related or familiar with the subject. i really hope you restore the page, it took me really long to gather that information. Tygeera (talk) 02:34, 28 July 2017 (UTC)

Done - see the post on your talk page for more details. Stephen! Coming... 11:34, 28 July 2017 (UTC)

I'm merging that stub

See Baada. Yes, you did the right thing because I didn't explain myself. No one appears to write or read these articles. Cheers.Nishidani (talk) 13:12, 13 August 2017 (UTC)

So I see. As I said before on your talk page, if you do believe that the text needs removing, then go ahead and do it. And in the light of your work on Baada, I can see it is especially necessary considering that both articles appear to be referring to the same people. Stephen! Coming... 11:08, 14 August 2017 (UTC)
Thanks Stephen. I don't know the technicalities about merging. So many articles are badly named, or poorly done, that one fails to note a new page one starts to write is already covered, if badly. They are the same people - fashion now dictates that the detribalized heirs prefer Bardi, but the tribal elders were repeatedly questioned on this before much knowledge was lost and they concurred that Baada was the correct autonym. In any case, the article I've started will go to 8-10,000kb shortly, as time allows, which I can't see anyone doing for the other (which is poorly sourced or badly formatted). Thanks for reminding me I should add an edit summary. I forget to do that too often since as I do 20-30 edits to an obscure page, I don't think there are readers out there that need to be signaled. Clearly a false premise.Nishidani (talk) 12:12, 14 August 2017 (UTC)
I would suggest that you Be Bold and just carry out the merger. The instructions are here, but essentially, you copy the source text and paste it into the destination article (remembering to leave the appropriate edit summary, as detailed in the instructions). Then set up redirects, and then merge the talk pages. I've not done one before, but the instructions seem simple enough to follow. Stephen! Coming... 16:09, 14 August 2017 (UTC)
Well, I've an established reputation for screwing up even the simplest things like merges and redirects. It's a cognitive problem: my attention span drops to nanoseconds with any prose that is technical. When I get an appliance, like my first computer and its 400+ pages, I read two paragraphs, threw it over my shoulder, and switched it on and worked out everything I needed to know in a few hours, empirically, same with fixing fridges, motor mowers etc. ( there I occasionally electrocute myself (twice in the past three years) but that's quite enjoyable once you get used to it). I'll cast around to see if anyone of several canny and technowise wikipedians can fix it. Thanks for your careful attention to the project. It's nice to see. Best regards Nishidani (talk) 16:43, 14 August 2017 (UTC)
If you can't find anyone to do it, I'll copy it across and do the merge, but I'll let you sort out where to place the copied text as you know the subject matter far better than I. Stephen! Coming... 17:00, 14 August 2017 (UTC)
That's very very decent of you, Stephen. I have copied, (and reformatted, and introduced better sources) for all the information remaining on that page. The Baada page now has everything incorporated from Bardi. Technically, I guess, one (I) could empty the page so that, if it's okay, you just went through with the redirect or whatever it's called, Bardi → Baada? terribly sorry for the bother, but I'm happy my lack of an edit summary led me to encounter another fellow wikipedian! Nishidani (talk) 17:33, 14 August 2017 (UTC)
No problem. I'll have a go at it tomorrow, as I have to shoot off now. Stephen! Coming... 17:39, 14 August 2017 (UTC)

Invitation to Admin confidence survey

Hello,

Beginning in September 2017, the Wikimedia Foundation Anti-harassment tool team will be conducting a survey to gauge how well tools, training, and information exists to assist English Wikipedia administrators in recognizing and mitigating things like sockpuppetry, vandalism, and harassment.

The survey should only take 5 minutes, and your individual response will not be made public. This survey will be integral for our team to determine how to better support administrators.

To take the survey sign up here and we will send you a link to the form.

We really appreciate your input!

Please let us know if you wish to opt-out of all massmessage mailings from the Anti-harassment tools team.

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Alwyn Robinson requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.  Velella  Velella Talk   22:55, 8 October 2017 (UTC)

Was it your intention to delete my {{uw-coi}} warning there? I think you were aiming for User:Ganeshjadhav0808. Suffusion of Yellow (talk) 15:54, 16 July 2018 (UTC) .

My apologies; I was trying to do a deletion of the page to remove all the spam once and for all, and then restore the page leaving only the warnings in place. But when I did that, the spam still returned. In the end my lunch break finished and I had to return to work. That'll teach me for doing a non-straightforward admin action when I have only a few minutes to spare... Stephen! Coming... 17:09, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
I should explain; I had previously did a text delete of all the spam, but as it was all in the history, the user just restored it (with a misleading edit summary). I figured that if I deleted the text via a partial page delete I hoped only the warnings would remain. Stephen! Coming... 17:14, 16 July 2018 (UTC)

Can you please explain your poor restoration of material here? This has several issues: 1.) It appears as if it's my creation and doesn't have any attribution to the original authors. 2.) 1 causes significant attribution and copyright problems 3.) It's still highly promotional. Please be more cautious in your reviewing of copyright material and use revision deletion as indicated at WP:REVDEL. Praxidicae (talk) 18:58, 12 November 2018 (UTC)

Administrator account security (Correction to Arbcom 2019 special circular)

ArbCom would like to apologise and correct our previous mass message in light of the response from the community.

Since November 2018, six administrator accounts have been compromised and temporarily desysopped. In an effort to help improve account security, our intention was to remind administrators of existing policies on account security — that they are required to "have strong passwords and follow appropriate personal security practices." We have updated our procedures to ensure that we enforce these policies more strictly in the future. The policies themselves have not changed. In particular, two-factor authentication remains an optional means of adding extra security to your account. The choice not to enable 2FA will not be considered when deciding to restore sysop privileges to administrator accounts that were compromised.

We are sorry for the wording of our previous message, which did not accurately convey this, and deeply regret the tone in which it was delivered.

For the Arbitration Committee, -Cameron11598 21:04, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

Administrators will no longer be autopatrolled

A recently closed Request for Comment (RFC) reached consensus to remove Autopatrolled from the administrator user group. You may, similarly as with Edit Filter Manager, choose to self-assign this permission to yourself. This will be implemented the week of December 13th, but if you wish to self-assign you may do so now. To find out when the change has gone live or if you have any questions please visit the Administrator's Noticeboard. 20:06, 7 December 2021 (UTC)

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Hello sir,

The article written for Mr Abhishek Garodia is in similar fashion that of all the business persons. In india, Garodia group is a very big company and he is the ceo of the company. I have written the article with the reference to that of this article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sanjiv_Mehta_(Indian_businessman). All the prominent personalities are published in Wikipedia so please help me with how can we resolve this issue.

Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sagarjoisar16 (talkcontribs) 08:50, 5 April 2022 (UTC)

My apologies for the delay in responding; I have been off sick for the past couple of weeks.
I have reviewed your request, and I cannot find anything about the article that makes me think it will survive a review by another administrator. There are two issues.
Firstly, the article is written as if it were advertising the subject. That may not have been the intention, but that is how the article reads. You have drawn my attention to this other article, but to be frank, that article is badly written too. It is very important that articles are written with a neutral point of view, so it is essential that you avoid language that reads like advertising copy.

If that were the only issue, I would be happy to restore the article to give you a chance to rewrite it. However, the second problem is that there is nothing there to establish notability. To demonstrate notability, you need to have at least 3 notable and independant third party sources; LinkdIn and press releases do not count.
If you can provide me with three sources that demonstrate why he meets the notability criteria (see WP:BIO), then I will restore the draft article to allow you to rewrite it. Otherwise, the article will remain deleted. Stephen! Coming... 11:50, 8 April 2022 (UTC)

New administrator activity requirement

The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.

Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:

  1. Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
  2. Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period

Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.
