Welcome to Wikipedia!

[edit]

Hello SmokeDetector47, welcome to Wikipedia!

Here are some tips:

If you feel a change is needed, feel free to make it yourself! Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone (yourself included) can edit any article by following the Edit this page link. Wikipedia convention is to be bold and not be afraid of making mistakes. If you're not sure how editing works, have a look at How to edit a page, or try out the Sandbox to test your editing skills.

If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself, feel free to ask someone else to do it. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. As well as the wiki community pages there are IRC Channels, where you are more than welcome to ask for assistance.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page. Thanks and happy editing, Alphax τεχ 04:25, 25 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the welcome, albeit a year late... :) -- SmokeDetector47 04:39, 25 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You're right. I thought the category referred to Star Wars, but I didn't read closely enough. Thanks for fixing it. - Richardcavell 03:39, 20 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Northwestern Project

[edit]

In editing Northwestern-related wiki pages, I noticed that you frequently contribute to Northwestern topics. I'm currently in the process of trying to update and enhance Northwestern's Wiki presence, but it is a lot of work. Northwestern needs a huge overhaull and it would be great if we could maybe work together on this. I was thinking about even starting a WikiProject on Northwestern. Please take a look at Duke University, Cornell University, and basically any other peer institution to Northwestern and see how little we have. Let me know what you think. Thanks for your help.Robms927 20:10, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have spoken with the vandal who vandalized the third article I created yesterday, Duane R. Morrison, who was from St. Louis, Missouri. He/she has been informed that if they continue to make vandalistic changes to any other pages, they will be blocked. I'm just hoping Story of the Year lead vocalist Dan Marsala didn't replace the link suicide with pwn, since given the fact that he was born and raised there. --D.F. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
