Minority discrimination on Wikipedia
I think Wikipedia want to hide fact that it has minority discrimination policy. My article marked for deletion, even it has truthful fact and information.
Wikipedia has discrimination "Noticeability" policy against minorities. For example, Wikipedia do not accept articles about popular minority singers because they are noticeable according to Wikipedia policy, even if they are noticeable person in minority. Wikipedia promotes only general-trend culture and suppress cultural diversity. Discrimination "notability policy" of Wikipedia do not consider impact and benefits of minority noticeable person for they society. According to Wikipedia policy only person of “big” nationalities allowed to be represented on wiki. If you are for example Aleut, who is only 400 people the world, your best singer never be allowed to be mentioned on Wikipedia. Obviosly you cannot find Aleut newspaper as refence source and even if you find it Wiki will say it is only 400 copies - unsignificant. But this is a whole nation! 400 copies for WHOLE nation.... - Makushima our editors do our best to cover as many topics as possible but we do require that reliable sources are used. I appreciate that it's difficult to find online sources for someone in such a small community. Do you know if there are any paper newspapers that cover her? Or books? Resources in any language are welcome, however, we do ask that the sources are independent and reliable. - Spider You should be reasonable when you asking newspaper evidence from natioanlility of 400 men. Do you think they print their own newspaper? And in the end if they print it you will tell me that 200 copies newspaper is not signinficat for Wiki, even it is covers half population of this nation. That's is why the policy is considered descriminating. It is a fact. And I just described the fact. You do not delete article about "head", becasue thre is no source or newspaper which says that it is prt of body. It is a fact that head is part of body.
I am not putting my opinion here, only facts. And fact is that Wiki discrimate minority by it is policy. You can test it by yourself. Create page about best aleut singer and it will be deleted. Create page about best chinese singer and it will remains.

I learned a hard lesson after being here at Wikipedia for a few months. I am a woman. I am of Cherokee ancestry. I live in Alaska and have worked with multiple Native peoples in the US. I am a mother. I am a subsistence hunter. I have my beliefs and I practice them. Nothing I just said about myself is any less relevant because I do or do not have a Wikipedia page. No Wikipedia page is going to give it more significance in my life and the lack of a Wikipedia article does not make it less important to me. I was those things before joining Wikipedia and I will be those things after I leave Wikipedia. The same in this case. The subject of this article is notable to those who love her and cherish her work. She is notable to her people and a bright beacon of light that shines positively on her culture. Nothing Wikipedia does or doesn't do will ever be able to add to or take away from that. Wikipedia has its policies and it has a right to adhere to those policies as it sees fit. - Tsistunagiska I am sorry that you give up... and agreed. If rules are wrong I try to break it. In my opinion, instead of edit Wiki you should write open letter to US president to stop discrimination. Ask people to cut finces sources for organization which discriminate people, impose sanction on mangers of such organization so they will change policy and stop discrimination.

- Tsistunagiska - well said. Wikipedia's policies are a real pain sometimes but if you look into the reasons behind them, they make sense. In an encyclopaedia so massive and impossible to fully moderate, it helps to have a line there. If they did away with that line and decided that things can be notable just because we think they are, the entire encyclopaedia would, within a month, be completely flooded with soapboxing, hoaxes, vandalism and all sorts. Yes, there would be some interesting content as well, I'm sure.
- Spiderone I understand common sense reasons behind the policies, but you also understand common sense reasons that breaks that "common sense policy". Resolution is very simple: relative significance estimation. You estimate significance not in absolute numbers but in relative numbers.
Wikipedia is not the only website available. There are so many out there that will allow you to promote the Aleut people without restriction and without anyone asking you to provide evidence for the facts that you state. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 17:41, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
- Spiderone This is not good approach: if somebody rapes a women, just go to another street and don't look at it. And I thought Wiki do not promote nationalities but provides information about them? I my goal is not promote Aleut but give information to people. Also dominating position of Wikipedia in this area of service information provider put other site not in equal position. So if somebody rape women near White Hall it is little bit different than it happens on Aleutian Islands (a little bit). Sorry for harsh example.
- Makushima without any evidence that this singer is notable, we only have your word. You say that she is the best singer in her ethnic group but that is subjective. - Makushima If you believe I have given up then you do not know anything about me. Likewise, you do not break a discriminatory system by circumventing its processes. That is what has been happening for too long here. I was involved in that. I believed we should keep articles because of their regional or topical importance. I believed flooding the encyclopedia with these articles would overwhelm the system and cause it to have to change but I saw quickly that wasn't going to happen. If strict adherence to the rules and processes results in an almost dead experiment then so be it. Wikipedia has made its rules and must live with the consequences. If views and internet traffic go elsewhere where articles on the things that mean more to specific groups is located then so be it. If Wikipedia dies as the result of its policies then it has to live with those decisions. Circumventing it does not reveal where changes need to be made and only serves to delay the inevitable. Revealing the obvious gaps and holes and suggesting new policies and rule changes within the process is the only way change can be achieved. Unfortunately that can't happen until we remove part of the issue and that is the fluff of these articles that have no wiki-notability but have been created/kept because a temporary mob or good faith editor decided going around policy was better for the encyclopedia. - Tsistunagiska I am sorry, I didn't want to offend you. I just wrote what I do in this kind of situation. I understand that Wiki is goal for you. For me is tool, to help people. I understand if wiki dies, there will be another tool with its restrictions and policies. So changing wiki policy it is just adopting tool for along to society rules and needs. I don't think the approach which I propose will overwhelm Wiki with Aleut singers articles and it will be down because of that. But it certainly this allows people to learn about other nationality culture.
- @Makushima: A mention in a government portal doesn't count. WP:GNG, read it . This may seem offensive and disheartening at this point in the debate but sources need to have a significant mention, reliable and Independent. Only those meeting all 3 are considered. And there needs to be multiple such sources to classify it as GNG. Government portals are not at all independent, they seek to promote their culture and will put up every single achievement by their citizens, big or small on the portal. There is an article about a 5 year old kid winning a kindergarten chess competition on the same site. I'm not belittling her win in the song contest, but that source is not exactly a good one. The same is Oscar they promote only American culture. Most information about Putin coming from goverment sites. All these article should be deleted as they don't have realible sources. Article about 5-year old winner doesn't make source not realible. Here is news on Kommersant (I think you will agree that Komersant one of the most relable source in Russia) about new watches https://www.kommersant.ru/doc/4641531. I mean this is completly unsigninficant news compare with information that 5 years old Kalmyk won chess competiotion. So articles with link to Komersant should be deleted?
- @Makushima: you can very much nominate those articles for AfD if you feel the sources are not adequate. Many of us will review the sources we can find and it is possible they should be deleted based on the criteria. Hey there. First, thanks for all the work you're doing on WP. Today, in my NPP, I came a across an AfD you either created, or commented on. You put in one of the great little charts to categorize each of the current sources. The only issue was that you had marked an interview as counting towards a source for GNG. The discussion is Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Qasim Ali Shah (2nd nomination). While not commenting about how I feel about this policy, interviews are considered primary sources (see WP:PSTS - and then you have to go footnote "c"), and as a primary source, can't be counted towards GNG. - I think you are in danger of conflating your own opinions with the notability criteria (again). Tromso finished 10th of 12 teams in 1991 (relegation play-off) and 8th of 12 in 1992. They were part-timers in a part-time league. In no sense whatsoever were they a "top, top club". This guy made a handful of appearances, mostly as a late substitute. In terms of both the general notability guideline and the subject-specific guideline, your unqualified opinions about the value of the club are completely irrelevant. - Seany91 - I saw that the article had already been draftified before and moved back to mainspace by the creator. We wouldn't generally draftify an article a second time after the creator had already opposed it the first time but I agree that draftspace is the best place for Ekic at this moment as she may well become notable this year. - None of the sources look to be independent, professional sources of the quality to meet the requirements at WP:RS. I also can't see any evidence that the musician is successful in the sense that they have won a major award or that any of their songs have placed in a national chart anywhere. Hello, and sorry for the belated reply to your message, haven't been around this week. Feel free to redirect it. There may be significant coverage, but the 1980s/early 1990s is possibly the most difficult period to research: pre-internet, so no contemporary coverage outside actual printed paper with content that people had to be willing to pay money to read, but too late for most of the British Newspaper Archive and too early for most newspapers' own online archives. Record labels
Thankyou for at least beginning to make a dent against the huge number of record labels with no sources other than their own websites. It amazes me how many articles in Wikipedia have existed for over a decade with out even 1 source that is even by the most generous interpretation independent of the subject.John Pack Lambert (talk) 21:04, 16 February 2021 (UTC)
- Johnpacklambert - a long, long way to go, my friend. I'm about halfway through the UK and haven't even started looking at all the hundreds of record label articles from the USA, Canada and Australia. I dread to think how many advert... sorry... articles I'll uncover there where the creator ends up being the person that founded the label and the article is 'sourced' to a Facebook page. I honestly wonder how things got like this. Honestly, there seem to be hundreds and hundreds of footballer, cricketer, DJ and school articles with similar issues as well. - Well, not requiring all new articles to go through AfD is one problem. For the first 4 or more years of Wikipedia people could create articles without creating accounts. We still do not require any non-creation edits before creating an article. Then the keep squad goes after anyone who they feel is pushing deletion too much. In 2010 or so when we finally made it so unsourced (as in no sources at all, 1 unreliable source was enough to avoid this path) biographies of living people could be nominated for deletion in a way that the only way to avoid deletion was to put a reliable source with them, we originally applied the standard only to articles created after that date. So proposed deletion regularly sees 13 year old articles on living people with 0 sources nominated for deletion. Then there were the absurdly broad inclusion guidelines like "playing in 1 first class cricket match", when 1st class is not at all close to meaning all players are fully professional, or the 1 game in a fully professional league standard for football when some countries have 3 or more fully professional leagues.John Pack Lambert (talk) 13:07, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
- Johnpacklambert there really needs to be an equivalent to BLP PROD that we can use for the plethora of unsourced schools and companies out there. It's way past the stage of being unmanageable now. It's very time consuming going through all of that pre-2010 junk trying to find newspaper sources that may or may not have been used to substantiate the article but that nobody could be bothered to reference the article to. It would be nice if a system could be implemented where new users need to have at least 1 AfC approved before they can freely make articles in the mainspace. This would also stop the usual sockpuppet spam as I highly doubt any of them could actually be bothered to do a proper article and actually go through AfC just to post their paid-for junk here. - Johnpacklambert - I suggest they look at the thousands of Wikis out there without any notability policies. It's just an unmoderated spamfest of zero use to anyone. The amount of time wasted having to check these junk and borderline hoax or COI articles just to see if there is a newspaper at some point in history that gave them more than a passing mention to justify an article on them is time not well spent. I noticed that this article appears to be the same in terms of sourcing and content as Draft:P.Priime which was declined by User:Curbon7, User:SK2242 and User:Robert McClenon. Each of those users gave good advice on why the subject was not shown to meet the notability criteria. Press release-style interviews generally don't establish notability nor do passing mentions in articles. Are there any reliable sources other than the ones already cited? I couldn't find anything myself and, if no further sources exist, I would have to say that he isn't notable enough for an article at this moment.
