April 2015[edit]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Your recent talk page comments on Talk: Benford's law were not added to the bottom of the page. New discussion page messages and topics should always be added to the bottom. Your message may have been moved by another user. In the future you can use the "New section" link in the top right. For more details see the talk page guidelines. Thank you. Reify-tech (talk) 17:42, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I've taken the liberty of adding a more-extensive Welcome message after the brief initial one. Given the topics you're interested in, I think you can make good use of a more-complete overview of the Wikipedia editing process. Cheers! Reify-tech (talk) 17:48, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Help me![edit]

I'm trying to suggest an article for warnowiid which is a single cell organism about which this article has been published recently in nature and received a lot of publicity. I followed wikipedia instruction for suggesting articles which takes me to the page for suggested articles in biology. The page is a big mess, and I have no idea which category my suggestion fits into. Is there a way to suggest an article without knowing the category?

Sprlzrd (talk) 03:41, 22 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

My advice is that the "suggested articles" facility is not worth using. I don't often look at any of the "suggested articles" pages, but when I do, I invariably see loads of suggestions which have been waiting around for years with no response. The "suggested articles" facility no doubt seemed like a good idea when it was started, but the reality is that most editors who create articles have their own ideas as to what articles they would like to write, rather than looking at the suggestions. You would be much better off writing a draft article yourself, is you are willing to do so. You could do this either in the "draft namespace", (e.g Draft:Warnowiidae) see Wikipedia:Drafts, or in your userspace (e.g User:Sprlzrd/Warnowiidae), see Help:Userspace draft. That is my advice, but I am leaving your request for help open, in case anyone else has anything else to offer. The editor who uses the pseudonym "JamesBWatson" (talk) 12:19, 22 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with JamesBWatson that the suggested articles pages don't typically produce articles. But, since you asked, I'd list it in the Wikipedia:Requested articles/Natural sciences/Biology#Other tree of life articles section. You would, though, be better off following the above suggestion about creating a draft yourself. You could use the article wizard to help. I agree that the "suggested articles" feature is not likely to produce quick results, though I have seen some articles created after considerable delays. Most new articles seem to be created by an editor who realizes that one is needed, and who then acts directly to write one. You are encouraged to try your hand at creating an appropriate article, after doing a search for whether it is already covered elsewhere in Wikipedia. Wikipedia:Your first article will help walk you through the process. Reify-tech (talk) 15:41, 22 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Help me![edit]

When I look up a Wikipedia article on my phone, at the bottom of the page, there is a list of three RELATED ARTICLES. Where do these articles come from, and how do I see this list in my desktop version of Wikipedia? Is there a way to modify or suggest changes to this list?

Sprlzrd (talk) 16:38, 27 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I believe you're talking about the See also section found near the bottom of most pages. It's just text editors have added in to related subjects that a reader might be interested in. They're on the desktop version as well. If you want more help, change the {{help me-helped}} back into a {{help me}}, stop by the Teahouse, Wikipedia's live help channel, or the help desk to ask someone for assistance. Primefac (talk) 17:41, 27 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
No, this is not the same as see also. It is called RELATED ARTICLES, and there is always three of them. It only shows up on my phone (chrome browser on android device). For example, for the article Descriptive set theory, this is what I see at the bottom of the page on my phone browser:

Chatted with a few people, and we don't really know. Seems to be a new thing just for mobile. I might suggest asking at the Teahouse, as you'll be able to get more feedback from more people. Primefac (talk) 17:18, 28 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
See mw:Extension:RelatedArticles#Usage. You could technically set up those related pages manually, but that's hardly ever done on Wikipedia, and I don't think it's a good idea. Huon (talk) 17:31, 28 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
