Happy New Year, Ssven2!

[edit]

Send New Year cheer by adding {{subst:Happy New Year fireworks}} to user talk pages.

@Davey2010: Thank you very much, Davey. Same to you as well.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 15:38, 1 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Easy archiving

[edit]

Do you use Firefox? It has an add-on titled "Save URL to Wayback Machine" which does not require you to visit the site for archiving a page (read the add-on description to know more). There is also "Open in Wayback Machine" which opens the latest archive of a URL. Kailash29792 (talk) 13:43, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Kailash29792: Nope, but archive.is is easier for my case in Chrome.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 15:26, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh-ho-ho! Okay! How about this and this? Kailash29792 (talk) 15:39, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Kailash29792: I'll get that tmrw, thanks.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 15:50, 2 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Burton photo

[edit]

Replied here. Happened to see this--left again because of the odious stench over infoboxes which has permeated the place for months. Was here checking files to be transferred (making sure they're properly linked, etc. before they go). If anything turns up, I'll let you know re: the photo and do the changes at Commons. We hope (talk) 14:13, 3 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@We hope: Don't worry, We hope. It'll take more than an image fight or infobox fight to make me disappear from Wikipedia. I got nerves of steel, brah.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 15:50, 3 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It's not that-I hope I can watch my tongue but am continually pulled away from one thing or another I'd been TRYING to do since May. I've found a possible match for the photo at newspapers.com, but the quality of the scan is quite poor. At times, it looks to be a match and at others, I think the hair isn't "right". So-I've asked someone who's a Commons admin for an opinion. Before this can go further, we need to see what he says. ;-) We hope (talk) 15:56, 3 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
All OK now-see the Richard Burton talk page. ;) We hope (talk) 19:35, 3 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I want it to appear on the main page on January 17 since it is Puratchi Thalaivar's centenary. Since you have experience with DYKs, can you please do something? On an unrelated note, what happened to Jodhaa Akbar's GA plans? Kailash29792 (talk) 14:36, 3 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Kailash29792: Break from it. Will resume in a couple of days.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 15:44, 3 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Film name?

[edit]

Hi Ssven, just curious about this revert. Was there a problem with the formatting of the Tamil script? I think the user went through a ton of articles adding these templates. There's nothing inherently wrong with the template--it's encouraged at Template:Infobox film--but obviously if there's a problem with the way the editor has delivered the text, that should be looked at. I only speak English, so I'm useless in this venture. Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 21:49, 5 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like someone else got to it. Maybe next time. Happy New Years.--Deoliveirafan (talk) 02:05, 6 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Deoliveirafan: I think you misunderstood. THIS IS A PEER REVIEW. NOT A GA REVIEW. You can still post your comments (unless you are busy). HNY to you and yours BTW.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 08:20, 6 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Am not sure if you have notice it or not, but the annual editing competition Wikipedia:WikiCup has started and the signup is open till 5 February 2017. The cup encourages content improvement and tries to make editing on Wikipedia more fun; and it did that for me last year. I have hence decided to drop this friendly note hoping that you would take part. Although the signup ends on 5th Feb, the earlier you sign in the earlier you start scoring. Happy New Year and Happy Editing! §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 04:41, 6 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

RIP

[edit]
RIP Om Puri

RIP Om Puri. Sad to hear that he died. I know he was a great actor.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:21, 6 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Dr. Blofeld: Yes. He was. I haven't seen much of his critically acclaimed films yet. He is good in Priyadarshan's comedies though. RIP, sir ad thank you for the eggs (films) you have hatched (given us).  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 06:25, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Not even Ardh Satya? Vensatry (talk) 07:46, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Vensatry: Nope. Haha. I will do so soon enough.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 07:51, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I saw the movie long back, and I don't even remember much of the plot. But it was a path breaking film in both (Nihalani & Om Puri) of their careers. Vensatry (talk) 07:55, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Indian Sports

[edit]

The sports articles about Indian athletes are in a appalling state. Do you have any interest in working on it, maybe a specific sport? Let me know, Thanks. NumerounovedantTalk 08:10, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Numerounovedant: I can work on Cricket lists.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 08:21, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, sure if that is what interests you. I recently went through the articles of the sporting bodies in India, including the BCCI. I believe they could use some work as well. Also, off-wiki do you agree with the recent developments with with Lodha panel's suggestions and Thakur's suspension? NumerounovedantTalk 08:31, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Numerounovedant: Yes. Srinivasan should be gone too IMHO. He's been there long enough. Even after Meiyappan has been banned, he hasn't learnt his lesson.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 08:43, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It's funny how sporting bodies operate in India, with BCCI being the only privatised authority. Even with that they have troubles of their own, leave alone the ridicule that the non-cricket sports face. NumerounovedantTalk 08:56, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Kattabomman FA may finally happen

[edit]

Because Danny's book has now been cited only twice in the article (and can easily be removed), I think that makes the article worth for FAC. But before they are mercilessly hacked out, I want you to see if there are alternative sources to support the statements. This already cited source could prove useful. Kailash29792 (talk) 08:32, 10 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Kailash29792: Danny gone. Now, I'll open up a PR and improve it further before FAC.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 09:15, 10 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Great work. Besides, don't you think info about the 1984 release should be under the "re-release" section? Kailash29792 (talk) 09:23, 10 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

47 Naatkal

[edit]

Today, the Megastar is making a comeback. If you too are interested in watching the one mentored by K. Balachander at this moment, i recommend you to watch this film. Quite short in length, here is the link. Let me know if you are interested. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 05:42, 11 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Pavanjandhyala: Shall do so this evening.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 06:51, 11 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

A few suggestions: since he has credit as both an actor and singer, you could do something like what it is in Aamir Khan filmography: create a "Credited as" column. Also, it's not "A. R." in Murugadoss, but "AR" (the reason is explained here). The terms "romantic hero" and "action hero" may also be added, with their wikilinks. Kailash29792 (talk) 11:34, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Kailash29792: I've gone with the Shah Rukh Khan filmography format for the "Credited as" part as Vijay has not produced, assistant directed or wrote the script for any film so far. Rectified "A. R." to "AR". Wikilinked romantic hero and will do so for the other.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 12:01, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
At first I thought "romantic hero" meant a person known for starring in romance-related media (it is still used colloquially to mean that), until I saw this. I also gave you these suggestions since you may want to avoid edit conflicts; there is no In-use or Under construction template. Kailash29792 (talk) 12:12, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) Technically, 'list of songs' should go into the discography page. Vensatry (talk) 17:43, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Talkback

[edit]

Do you have any more comments for the FAC? Please talkback. Plus, could you performn the source review, please?Krish | Talk 18:07, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Krish!: That's all from me as far as comments go. Mujhko koi AITRAAZ nahin, dost. I'll take up the source review tomorrow, Krish. Time for me to tuck in now/Get some sleep/Get some shuteye.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 18:11, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
But don't you think you shave to put your final comments there? The delegates will think that you are yet to reply on the FAC. Krish | Talk 18:16, 13 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
In case you forgot about the source review. Krish | Talk 18:16, 14 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Seeing you create this list for a potential FLC (after doing the same for Vijay filmography, which was created after Ajith Kumar filmography was expanded for FLC) makes me think it mirrors this incident (watch from 2:42 to 2:54). Kailash29792 (talk) 16:09, 15 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Now that the GOCE has finished editing, I believe we may proceed? Kailash29792 (talk) 03:10, 16 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello!

[edit]

Hello Ssven2! I do not believe we have talked before on Wikipedia so it is nice to meet you! I have noticed you have been around the block before when it comes to featured articles and lists, so I was wondering if you'd be interested in looking at my current candidate. Feel free to ignore this if you're overly busy; I don't want to pressure you into doing anything. Thank you very much, Carbrera (talk) 23:30, 16 January 2017 (UTC).[reply]

Foreign-event pictures at Bollywood Hungama ain't free

[edit]

Template:Cc-by-3.0-BollywoodHungama at Commons reads, "This permission does not extend to" and gives bullet points under it, one of which reads "photographs of non-Indian events". In this case, no SIIMA image at BH can be used as a free file at Commons. Kailash29792 (talk) 04:08, 18 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

For a potential FAC, this could be useful. Kailash29792 (talk) 15:34, 19 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

My future FLCs

[edit]

When you last asked me what was the second article I was going to list at the GOCE, I declined to say. Well now I'll tell you, because I think you can help. It is indeed Silambarasan filmography as you earlier speculated, but I can't find sources for the majority of his pre-2000 movies. Can you? Kailash29792 (talk) 08:34, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Kailash29792: First, you combine all of his films into one instead of in separate sub-headings. The songs and lyricist parts can go into the main article. Keep the "director" and "voice actor" parts in the list.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 09:05, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That I have no difficulty. As I said earlier, it's sources for his pre-Kadhal Azhivathillai era that I have difficulty obtaining. I also think the list Silambarasan discography should be created. What do you think? Kailash29792 (talk) 10:50, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Kailash29792: Your call.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 11:16, 25 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The process has begun. May the force be with me and the co-nominator. Kailash29792 (talk) 10:50, 26 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Karan Arjun

[edit]

Hi Ssven2, After looking at your films blog, I found out that you haven't seen Karan Arjun yet. It has two of my favs in one film. However it is your choice. Also do you have a Malayalam section for the films you want to watch.

Thanks. Ryajn3 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ryajn3 (talkcontribs) 02:44, 28 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Rediff source

[edit]

The source does not even mention the year let alone film. Vensatry (talk) 11:34, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Vensatry: I checked both English and Tamil google websites for sources. The only one that mentions him winning the award in detail is IndiaGlitz, which fails WP:RS. As for the Rediff source, I rephrase my edit summary statement here: I have added it again to show which year the state awards for 2000, 2001 and 2002 were conducted as the award ceremonies don't have a separate article like the Filmfare awards or Vijay awards. I'll remove the source though if the citation beside it is good enough.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 11:37, 2 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
While it's good to create new lists be aware of WP:CFORK. Vensatry (talk) 09:32, 3 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Now the usage of the Vikatan mirror source has reduced to 11 usages. If a film is not mentioned in EIC, do you think it is best removed from the list without gaming the system? What is your say, Vensatry? Kailash29792 (talk) 07:54, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Kailash29792: I have an idea about the 70s Malayalam films. The website, malayalasangeetham.info, has a synopsis about some of the films with the character names. Maybe we can ask Joseph to get the translation of the synopsis, which is in Malayalam (if he knows the language that is, no offence intended).  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 08:23, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) EIC is a paper encyclopedia. So it isn't exhaustive. 'malayalasangeetham.info' is just a movie database, which again is unreliable. Vensatry (talk) 08:50, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Then any die-hard fan seeking to taking Malayalam films to GA/FA will be in a big shock: The Hindu's B. Vijayakumar (among Kerala's leading film historians) borrows his information about films chiefly from that website. So based on WP:FRUIT, all those articles he published become unreliable, don't they? And can you please define "paper encyclopedia"? I think it means more than a kaagaz ka pustak. Kailash29792 (talk) 09:21, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Taking articles to GA/FA is subject to availability of quality (reliable sources) on the topic. As for B. Vijayakumar's articles, they should probably be decided on a case-by-case basis. Are the terms, 'paper' and 'encyclopedia', so tough to understand? Vensatry (talk) 10:13, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

TNPPL

[edit]

@Kailash29792 and Vensatry: Guys, you heard/saw the news? What a brave speech from OPS. He's trending like anything right now! No wonder JJ favoured him.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 17:34, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The best thing, IMO, about OPS is he showed no traits of selfishness or egoism, and favoured the common man's views. That is how I expect other Indian politicians to be. Kailash29792 (talk) 17:47, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) He reminds me of Kattappa. Pavanjandhyala (talk) 17:58, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I am going to make it tomorrow early in the morning. If you are impatient to know what it is, or you need some sort of spoiler, this can give you a clue. Will you be there, my friend? :) Pavanjandhyala (talk) 16:49, 11 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Kailash29792 and Pavanjandhyala: I kind of knew Pavan was going to call it quits. Then again, I wish him all the very best in his future endeavours. Om Namo Narayana!  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 11:43, 12 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If it were to be taken to FA, I'd be co-nominator because of how much I reworked the article to cleanse it of Danny's books. Though it seems to have ended up shrinking the article, the number of refs has only increased. Can you see where this source can be used? --Kailash29792 (talk) 15:38, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Kailash29792: Nothing much there.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 15:49, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Well it mentions Ryan's Daughter, which Danny claimed the movie was loosely based on. That's why I showed it to you. Kailash29792 (talk) 16:29, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Kailash29792: Oh yes, only Danny mentioned it. You can use the reference in that case, saying "According to Haasan, the film was inspired by David Lean's 1970 drama, Ryan's Daughter."  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 06:55, 17 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

We hope has seen to it now I think! How are you? Favourite films of 2016/7?♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:48, 17 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Dr. Blofeld: Really good, Doc, thanks for asking. Favourite film of 2016 for me right now, still Visaranai. I really urge you to watch it. It'll hit you really hard. Caught up with Arrival today. Beautifully shot. A lot of Kubrick with a bit of Mallick and Don't Look Now (with the flashforwards Adams experiences). I'll see them one by one (a sort of Oscar marathon, I think). I'll see Moonlight tomorrow. Heard it is really good.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 16:59, 17 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Arrival also has a Tarkovsky influence I think, Solaris influence. Gibson's film also has a clear Full Metal Jacket influence, I'm pretty sure Vince Vaughn based his character on the hard as nails Sergeant (R. Lee Ermey) in that film and Clint Eastwood in Heartbreak Ridge!♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:10, 17 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Dr. Blofeld: Ermey was beautiful in FMJ. His career as a sergeant in Vietnam really helped him there. Vince is like that eh? I'll look at Hackshaw Ridge after Moonlight.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 17:18, 17 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, Vince is just like him in it. Moonlight is also next for me :-)♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:37, 17 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Floor test

[edit]

@Kailash29792, Vensatry, Krimuk2.0, Dr. Blofeld, and Editor 2050: The TN floor test is quite a ruckus and...if I may make myself so bold, DMK is bringing it on! But it should have been done in a non-violent way instead of damaging mikes and chairs.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 08:14, 18 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sigh, the baddies won. Everyone could have covered themselves in a bit more glory at certain stages throughout the last few weeks, in hindsight. Waiting to run into Karunas. Editor 2050 (talk) 12:38, 18 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Trans_title field

[edit]

Don't believe what Vensatry says about this. If he was really right, the "trans_title" field would never have been created. This is English Wikipedia, and everything in a foreign language requires a translation. There were initially no translated titles at Mullum Malarum, but at the ill-fated FAC, someone suggested the translated titles be put and his reason was justified. I also don't know how to convince Vensatry about the importance of adding web archives. Kailash29792 (talk) 07:29, 21 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This is English Wikipedia, and everything in a foreign language requires a translation. Sigh, why don't you translate the whole article then? Vensatry (talk) 09:43, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
As for web archives, there is absolutely no compulsion to add the archived urls in references. They are meant only when the original url becomes dead. Vensatry (talk) 09:44, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
If there was an AI powerful enough to give us English-translated articles, we'd use them instead of the non-English originals. And if the original url dies, and we have already added the archive, we add an additional field: deadurl=unfit. Kailash29792 (talk) 13:42, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
We do have Google Translate for that. I don't understand the need to add every single parameter to the references. They are only going to clutter the space. It's perfectly admissible to ignore parameters which are of least importance. Vensatry (talk) 13:56, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hello Ssven2, Soggade Chinni Nayana was originally dubbed in Hindi. The Hindi dubbed version name "The Return Of Raju" which will be premiered on 24 February 2017 in #Zeecinema. Zübæìr (talk) 11:52, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@S M Zubair Islam: You can add it in the "Release" section with a reliable source that says it is having its premiere on Zee Cinema like Times of India, The Hindu or even Zee Cinema.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 17:10, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Richard Burton

[edit]

Hello:

Just a quick note to let you know that I copy edited the Richard Burton article, which I cam across by chance, and added the GOCE tag to its Talk page, the day after you added it to the GOCE request page. I had not realized that you had requested a copy edit until I was going over the request list today.

Do you have access to this source? Vensatry (talk) 08:53, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Vensatry: No, I'm afraid I don't. It is Kailash's idea. It would be best to ask him. If there isn't any other alternative, would it be alright to remove the review altogether?  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 09:04, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ah okay! In case we have a physical copy of the review, either the page or the chapter number (or at least the title of the article) should be easy find. Else, we are fabricating the source. @Kailash29792: Can you expand the ref? Vensatry (talk) 09:11, 26 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I was only able to obtain the dates of each Vikatan review mentioned in Danny's books. Darn, if only he had directly cited all his sources or the Vikatan website archived all its reviews... Kailash29792 (talk) 13:42, 7 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, that's 'fabricating' the sources - 'illegal' in your lingo. Vensatry (talk) 06:23, 8 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sudharshan1

He appears to be a Vijay/Suriya extremist (by that I ambiguously mean a fan/hater, and not sure which of them he is to which actor). So please monitor his edits on Vijay and Suriya filmographies carefully and think twice before reverting his edits, because there may be some truth in his edits. @Vensatry: My bad. I should not have done that. Extremely sorry. I lost my cool there. Bit like him back there. Three years into Wikipedia, I should have known better. Again, I'm really very sorry.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 07:29, 11 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The GA review

[edit]

Hey! When are you gonna review that article? I will be leaving wikipedia in April or may be mid-May as I will be graduating soon. I will stay away for at least a year or two as I will be very busy at work. I might not even visit occasionally, so it would be great if you could help me with my projects. Thanks.Krish | Talk 17:46, 14 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

First thing tomorrow, Krish!. I'm going out this evening as its my b'day today. Tomorrow.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 07:22, 15 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps because it's a wednesday? Besides, Mondays aren't the only days worth disliking. Kailash29792 (talk) 13:57, 15 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the review bro! I have also nominated Don for GA, you can grab if you want. By the way, I really loved The Conclusion trailer. I know it reveals nothing, still kind of liked it. What about you?Krish | Talk 10:20, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Krish!: No problem. I'll abstain from GA reviews for now. As for Baahubali 2, I'm planning to see the film in theatres.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 10:24, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Please take a look at the Mary Kom FLC.Krish | Talk 13:52, 25 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I would like to nominated Baahubli FLC but for that I need another review for Amy Adams' FLC. I have asked you like thousand times. That FLC is very old yet not much has happened there. Would you like to review this time?Krish | Talk 17:21, 1 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Trans_titles

[edit]

I believe you can add them back to Vijay filmography, considering you-know-who (not him) will no longer oppose their inclusion. Maybe not to the YouTube links, but to the news articles, i.e. those not written in English. Kailash29792 (talk) 10:33, 19 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'll deal with those later after the list's FLC.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 12:13, 19 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Now that the PR is closed, when shall it be taken to FAC? After Vijay and Suriya's FLCs are closed perhaps? --Kailash29792 (talk) 07:01, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yes. After that.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 07:17, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the support on my FLC! I also have another one open based on the series if you want to take a look. I also have an FAC open for Naruto Uzumaki. When you get the chance, could you review it? If you can't, please reply. Thanks. MCMLXXXIX 10:39, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@1989: I see both the FLC and FAC has quite a lot of supports already. I'll do a source review for your FAC tomorrow. What say you?  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 15:21, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. Did you think the source review present was inaccurate? MCMLXXXIX 15:29, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@1989: Oops. Didn't notice Tintor2's source review there. My bad. I'll do it for the FLC tomorrow then.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 15:39, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It already happened on that one too. MCMLXXXIX 15:48, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@1989: Well, I'll comment on both the FLC and FAC tomorrow then.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 16:26, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@1989: I'll provide some prose comments this evening as the article has a lot of Japanese references. Find someone who knows about Anime and Manga, particularly from the Anime and Manga Portal.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 07:18, 21 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

He wins again

[edit]

Mr. 420 has won yet another NFA. I wonder if the system is rigged, or they are incompetent. --Kailash29792 (talk) 13:53, 7 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Neerja wins NFA for best film. Kumar wins NFA for best actor. Both films are based on Indian military forces (airways and navy). That might just be a coincidence, or there is a statement behind this. ** Pavan Jandhyala ** 14:19, 7 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, Akki's win was for Rustom and not Airlift (though I would have very much preferred to see him win for the latter). Despite how rigged the system seems, I'm certain COI is not one obvious reason. This incident regarding Balu Mahendra, Ilaiyaraaja and AR Rahman may explain why. --Kailash29792 (talk) 14:38, 7 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Why Akshay? Why not Shah Rukh for Fan? Why not Aamir for Dangal? What makes Rustom so brilliant? Don't say COI is absent. No. ** Pavan Jandhyala ** 14:59, 7 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
National Awards for 'Nationalist' films - as simple as that. Vensatry (talk) 16:13, 7 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
What about Manoj Bhajpai for Aligarh? Lot of people are accusing Akshay and they feel that he might have been favoured because of his support from our Prime Minister. He has definitely joined Saif Ali Khan's league (remember he won for Hum Tum). I would have loved to see Akshay winning for Airlift but they gave it for a joke-of-a-film Rustom, an utterly silly and one of the worst films of 2016. Additionally, Aishwarya Rai was in the final round with Surbhi, this year's Best Actress winner. This combination directs towards a completely hilarious scenario. Where they trying to award the worst actors in worst films? They both fit the bill. Seriously? Aishwarya for Sarbjit? Her performance was panned by every critcs and media publication. She was termed "over the top", "soulless", "screaming is not acting", "miscast" and "fake", yet she was in the final rounds. I wonder what they were really thinking?Krish | Talk 16:16, 7 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Movies

Dear Ssven2, Hello! Please do not mistake me for stalking you. I have viewed your movies list several times. However, I want to know how you watch old Hindi films from the 40s, 50s, 60s and 70s, with their restored versions (I mean no cuts in the runtime). Raj Kapoor films have too many cuts in their runtime, and I cannot find the actual copy. I used to use einthusan, but that website is all about money these days, unfortunately. PleaseThank you.

Such things aren't uncommon here, but this is the most disgusting one of all. Vensatry (talk) 03:44, 29 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Vensatry: "Will PM Narendra Modi answer how were Wikipedia pages of a former Prime Minister and Congress leaders altered through a government IP?" — A funny question as anyone can edit Wikipedia but, since its an IP editor in question and Nehruji's article is a protected one, I find that kind of doubtful.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 07:22, 29 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Er, the damage was done as far as back in July 2015, when the article was unprotected. Vensatry (talk) 09:36, 29 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Vensatry: Its surprising that Wiki did not have an important article like Nehruji's unprotected.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 09:39, 29 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
How many pages can be protected based on their importance? India has so many of such to deal with. :) ** Pavan Jandhyala ** 14:01, 29 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Tubelight

[edit]

Have you seen the teaser of this Salman Khan starrer? How do you think about it?Krish | Talk 08:31, 5 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Krish!: Looks like he lifted his character from I Am Sam, but it looks good. Follow-up to Bajrangi Bhaijaan in terms of patriotic themes.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 14:47, 5 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I think patriotism is the new way to fool audiences and Kabir Khan is really good at fooling people. And, don't even get me started on Mr. Salman "Bhai" Khan, the biggest hypocrite in Bollywood. He has been playing the same character in every film, a role of good/clean hearted man to make up for his early real life image. I don't buy this shit.Krish | Talk 09:42, 6 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Krish!: I wouldn't say hypocrisy but he has a caviar nature that inadvertently gets him into trouble. Well, he is after all, a writer's son.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 09:45, 6 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Tubelights are typically associated with unintelligent people. I wonder why Salman Khan would want such a title for his film. There's a reason why he retitled Mental as Jai Ho. --Kailash29792 (talk) 15:38, 8 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I got a much more in-depth IE review here. See how you can use it. --Kailash29792 (talk) 15:38, 8 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Alibabavum Dinamalarum

[edit]

A source that borrows info from an unreliable source is called a fruit from a poisonous tree. If that Dinamalar article had borrowed from Danny's book (and if Danny's info was taken from us), then it would be unusable. But it did not cite Danny or Wiki as its sources, so it should have been usable. And it also covers additional details, saying the bond between MGR and Modern Theatres broke after the former learnt of the usage of a body double for him (read "இதனால்தான் மாடர்ன் தியேட்டர்சுக்கும், எம்.ஜி.ஆருக்கும் உள்ள தொடர்பு விட்டுப் போயிற்று"). But Sachi Sri Kantha said it was the last film of MGR's contract with Modern Theatres. Nevertheless, I think the source can be used in place of some Danny ones. --Kailash29792 (talk) 10:05, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This source is already used in "soundtrack". Do you know how to correctly format it? I think it also contains info on the 1954 Hindi Alibaba film. --Kailash29792 (talk) 14:29, 13 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Paradesi awards

[edit]

Nice work creating another film awards list, already FL worthy! Regarding the image of Atharvaa, it is 214 × 252 pixels. That is why I removed the 220px text. Putting numbers higher than that gives the image a blurry display. --Kailash29792 (talk) 10:48, 21 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Kailash29792: Willing to leave comments on both FLCs then?  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 10:51, 21 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I think you should focus more on the lists which are large enough. I mean considering the length of the parent article, the separate article is questionable. I know an editor who will create problem for you here and he kind of did at the FLC. It's just a friendly advice.Krish | Talk 16:10, 22 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ssven2, the fork is pretty much acceptable, IMO. It's best to ignore the "advice" of people who do not even have an iota of how things work here. Vensatry (talk) 04:12, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I'm pretty sure Ssven is aware of WP:CFORK. That is why he hasn't yet created an awards page for Vishwaroopam, and even though he seemed to be developing one for Kaaka Muttai, he decided to let it remain in the main article. --Kailash29792 (talk) 04:22, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Kailash29792 and Vensatry: Vishwaroopam is quite big, so a separate article for the awards can be done and plus, my second FLC hasn't received 3 supports yet, so I'm delaying it. Kaaka Muttai isn't big and hence I am letting it remain in the main article.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 06:41, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Just a heads up, you cannot have more than two nominations at a time. Also, the notability of some awards might (viz., Ananda Vikatan's) be questionable. So take some extra care while creating such articles in future. Vensatry (talk) 06:51, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Vensatry, do you know why Ssven has been working relentlessly to improve the Ananda Vikatan Awards page? It's because awards without Wiki articles cannot be mentioned in any article, even if they are covered by reliable third-party sources. That has been proven at Baahubali: The Beginning's awards FLC where The Rambling Man opposed the inclusion of the Vikatan awards simply because they lacked a Wiki article at that time, even though the awards were backed by IB Times. And there has been no conspiracy theory that the Vikatan awards are unreliable, incompetent, or rigged. No award ceremony is more incompetent than this one, which awarded Akshay Kumar for the wrong performance, and two awards to a charlatan. But if it were finally decided that the Vikatan awards page be deleted because of lack of third-party sources, you would not delete the awards from any filmography table, would you? --Kailash29792 (talk) 10:28, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Audacity?

[edit]

@Kailash29792, Pavanjandhyala, and Vensatry: Look at this and here. A very good director saying something as stupid as this. If that's the case, why not say that films like Chandralekha, Mughal-E-Azam, Sholay and DDLJ are the highest-grossing films of all time, eh? It shows there are a few people who are jealous of Baahubali's success.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 07:10, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

He was very generous. Equally generous are two other knowledgeable men here and here. Read them too, enjoy and celebrate the spirit of criticism. And yes, please do not compare Baahubali with the above mentioned films. What Rajamouli made does not match the brilliance of those jewels. Even "the greatest Indian film of all time" is revered for its German cinematographer's skill and the story (obviously north Indian). What Telugu films are, except a bunch of clowns? My foot.... I said it nah, last time. I am the last exponent of Telugu cinema in Wikipedia. That's all. If ever you find someone like me again once i leave, don't assume him/her as my sockpuppet though. Listening Kailash? eh? ** Pavan Jandhyala ** 09:10, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I know you would never do something cheap like that Pavan. Although Padmalakshmisx seemed like a very promising editor (he does have great editing skills, even if his respecting of policies is weak), his pride and arrogance got the better of him. and he has also proven himself as a master pretender (his display of redemption may have been proven a facade, since he continues to create multiple accounts). Kailash29792 (talk) 09:49, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Kailash29792, Pavanjandhyala, and Vensatry: Woah, Pavan. Easy. Telugu films are not all like that. Don't degrade yourself and your culture here. Both of that are different from what Sharma said. Both Sarukkai and Bhaskaran actually criticised the film and that's their POV. He was just stupidity from Sharma. Don't feel disheartened. We are there for you, thammudu.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 09:52, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I need not degrade myself and my culture. I had that privilege in my real life in a rather disturbing way. Nobody was like "We are there for you, thammudu" that day. The most polite words that were uttered then were perhaps these: "We Tamilians have the divine in our genes. You Telugus have demons in your genes. That is why everywhere you guys get a fitting response: gulte". How racist? To claim their ancestors as the greatest rulers of South India, some Tamilian friends of mine uttered a line that can make everyone proud of their origins. They called the ancient Telugu lands "whores of Tamil and Kannada rulers". Ridiculing land which helps in human survival? Anyways, i am sorry. I should have been restrained and behaved myself. I apologise to everyone offended by me. Its high time i continue working on Simhachalam. My peace lies there for now. ** Pavan Jandhyala ** 11:34, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Pavan, fanatics and jingoists are everywhere; AP/Telanaga is no exception. We just have to ignore them. Although I do not wholeheartedly agree with both pieces, I see the point the authors are trying to make. Sure, the film had some striking visuals and amazing VFX, but was it pure CINEMA? Heck no! And it needn't be because SSR was very clear about his audience and marketed both films in the cleverest way possible. But what surprised me is the ridiculous perception about the women characters of the film being "strong". In fact, I routinely come across conversations like, "see this is how we (the Indians) used to treat our women in the past" (as if Baahubali happened for real). We even had an article on Avanthika and the creator's rationale was that the character was "strong" (:P) Also as GB says, the film glorifies feudalism/slavery to a greater extent. I know it's a period film but still... As for critics, they can criticise any film because that's their duty. Vensatry (talk) 12:30, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I know I had said that I would never ever want to talk to that "too good for you" editor but I couldn't resist his laughable remarks. Just to let you know, I had not just created that "Avanthika" article but it was created along with several other articles. It was more based on the popularity of the films/franchise and the coverage it received. And, yes I do feel it is very new for a Telugu film to have a strong female character (Devasena and Sivagami not Avanthika) because Telugu cinema is known for being highly regressive towards women. I have even heard that the big male directors, actors and even small technicians treat female actresses like shit. Just go and watch Radhika Apte's interview. However, now it doesn't came as a surprise because when I saw the comments on several of Anushka's songs (after The Conclusion) I could only find comments like how the users wanted to jack off watching those songs and blah blah blah blah. And, yes it matters because the film atleast changed those filthy comments which were replaced by how beautiful she looked and "female superstar" and stuff. And, coming back to your Wikipedia:Content forking comment above, I just want to say that you were the one who complained few years ago that how users were making new lists for the sole purpose of taking them to FL. So, I guess you change your words faster than your shoes. Too bad!Krish | Talk 17:05, 23 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

My peer review

[edit]

Hi, I know I'm supposed to wait for an interested editor to respond to an article I submitted for a peer review. But will it trouble you if I ask for your comments? I've had two articles requested for PR before, only to get them archived by a bot months later. It's an article I plan to push for the FA status, Drive (2011 film). What do you say, interested? It doesn't have to be today, tomorrow, or the day after that; whenever you like. Here's the page. Thanks a bunch. Bluesphere 03:31, 30 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Biographies of filmmakers

[edit]

Hello! Just a reminder, the Film project does not cover biography articles. Therefore, the {{WikiProject Film}} banner should not be added to articles about actors, directors and filmmakers. Those articles are covered by adding |filmbio-work-group=yes to {{WikiProject Biography}} instead. This applies to all of the film task forces as well, which means that the Indian cinema task force does not include articles about Indian actors, directors and filmmakers, and consequently should not have the |cinema=yes parameter on the {{WikiProject India}} banner. Thanks! Fortdj33 (talk) 14:25, 17 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Generally speaking, we normally do some kind of attribution when we do a copy/paste of any kind. The easiest way is to use an edit summary when you move the data to the effect of: "Content copied from ____. See that article for attribution." or fill out {{copied}} and slap it onto the talk page? Granted, I know that raw facts are probably not specifically copyrightable, but the style and presentation probably are and anyway, preserving the chain of contributor history is typically something we like to do.
Anyway, it wasn't my plan to come by to hassle or lecture you because you do a really good job around the project, so I've taken care of this myself. If you could keep the attribution issue in your mind for future copy/pastes, that'd be appreciated. Have a good weekend, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 14:42, 3 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, your reversion restored incorrect figures, from what I can tell. I see 144.55 crore here, which is cited in the article. As for crore vs millions/billions, that's an uphill battle that none of us are going to win against the multitudes of casual editors who care nothing about Wikipedia preferences. I'm not going out of my way to push crore, but it's just easier to reprint what was in the source than to do the math conversion, which hurts my head and which ultimately seems so futile. Sorry for the removal of that content. I contemplated taking the article to FA, and among the things I recollected at Mullum Malarum's botched FAC was that you can't use statements like "the film inspired the title of a TV series" unless the source actually says it was so. None of the sources (Sify and Dinamalar) mention the Kushboo serial's connection to the Puthiya Paravai song. --Kailash29792 (talk) 08:02, 23 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Christmas greetings

[edit]
A Shaker Christmas wish
Give good gifts, one to another
Peace, joy and comfort gladly bestow
Harbor no ill 'gainst sister or brother
Smooth life's journey as you onward go.
Broad as the sunshine, free as the showers.
So shed an influence blessing to prove;
Give for the noblest of efforts your pow'rs;
Blest and be blest, is the law of love.

Happy Holidays
From Stave one of Dickens A Christmas Carol

Old Marley was as dead as a door-nail. Mind! I don’t mean to say that I know, of my own knowledge, what there is particularly dead about a door-nail. I might have been inclined, myself, to regard a coffin-nail as the deadest piece of ironmongery in the trade. But the wisdom of our ancestors is in the simile; and my unhallowed hands shall not disturb it, or the Country’s done for. You will therefore permit me to repeat, emphatically, that Marley was as dead as a door-nail.

So you see even Charles was looking for a reliable source :-) Thank you for your contributions to the 'pedia. ~ MarnetteD|Talk 18:59, 24 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Here is one for your talk page Sven2. I only made it through half the alphabet in my deliveries before sleep over took me last night :-) Best wishes. MarnetteD|Talk 18:59, 24 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Pending changes reviewer granted

[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "pending changes reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on pages protected by pending changes. The list of articles awaiting review is located at Special:PendingChanges, while the list of articles that have pending changes protection turned on is located at Special:StablePages.

Being granted reviewer rights neither grants you status nor changes how you can edit articles. If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.

Rollback granted

[edit]

Hi Ssven2. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Widr (talk) 14:57, 25 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much, Widr.  — Ssven2 Looking at you, kid 15:24, 25 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
