Biryani

[edit]

Hi - I'm Girth Summit, and administrator here. I reverted your edit at Biryani because, as I said in my edit summary, the source does not support the content you added. Now, you know that your edit is contested - if you want to reinstate it, you are expected to make the case for it on the article's talk page. You are not entitled to simply reinstate it over other people's objections. This is covered at WP:EW and at WP:BRD. Please read them, and do not reinstate the edit without gaining consensus on the article's talk page. Girth Summit (blether) 11:48, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Girth, first off I’d like to apologize. I’m new to wiki and am not accustomed with the talk page yet. Getting back to the topic, if you see the third para of the first citation I gave then you will see that it talks about the origin of Kacchi biriyani in Bengal and the other two citations I gave are in Bengali which talk about the origin of kacchi from Dhaka. Stewmuhn (talk) 12:02, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi - I've looked at those sources, and I'm afraid I remain convinced that they do not support the content you have added.
  • The first source, Slurrp, says this: Tracing the origins of kachchi biryani is a complex task, as there are various theories and historical accounts associated with its origin. It is widely believed that kachchi biryani originated in the Indian subcontinent, specifically in the region of Bengal. The dish is said to have been influenced by the culinary traditions of the Mughals, who ruled over large parts of the Indian subcontinent during the 16th and 17th centuries... ...According to one account, Kachchi Biryani was created during the reign of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah, the last Nawab of Awadh in present-day Uttar Pradesh, India... ...Another legend suggests that Kachchi Biryani was introduced in Bengal during the rule of Murshid Quli Khan, the first Nawab of Bengal, in the 18th century... ...While these historical accounts and legends offer insights into the origin of Kachchi Biryani, it's important to note that the exact details and historical evidence may vary. I think it's pretty clear that that source is saying that the origins of the dish are unclear, and it clearly cannot be used to support a bald assertion that it originated in Dhaka.
  • The second source, from Roar Media, says this: This food was introduced by the Chaghtai people of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan. Residents of these winter-dominated regions prefer red meat, especially lamb. They learn to prepare a special meal using rice with red meat and various ingredients, such as butter, pepper, salt, cardamom and local spices such as nutmeg. And that's how kachchi biryani started... ...Later, the fame of this biryani spread in Dhaka city in a very short time through the cooks who came with the Mughal Subedars. So, that also does not support the assertion that it originated in Dhaka.
  • The third source, 10minuteschool, is a blog written by a student. It is not a reliable source, and should not be used to support any assertion.
Based on all this, please will you remove that content? Thank you. Girth Summit (blether) 12:39, 24 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! Isaidnoway (talk) 06:32, 28 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Page moves

[edit]

Hello, Stewmuhn,

Please stop with the unnecessary page moves. It is disruptive editing and can lead to a loss of editing privileges. There is no good reason why you should need to move an article multiple times, especially not as many times as you moved that article. It makes it look like you don't know what you are doing as an editor and it just creates a lot of unnecessary redirects. Please think through a page move before you do it, don't move pages impulsively and move an article only once.

If you have questions about editing on Wikipedia, please bring them to the Teahouse. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 05:35, 30 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia. Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been or will be reverted.

Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive. Continued disruptive editing may result in loss of editing privileges. Please be aware of WP:ETHNICITY in your edits, especially in your addition of Bengali where it would be considered anachronistic. We use "Indian" et al for pre-1947 cats and that is the English Wikipedia standard, do not remove them. You can add cats which are supported by the article but not reject wiki precedents. The same goes for the body of the article as well. Gotitbro (talk) 10:10, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

And please use the account you have created to edit, do not use multiple IPs (WP:Editing while logged out) which may be considered WP:IP socking especially if used to re-inforce your edits in articles. Gotitbro (talk) 11:28, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:8th-century Bengalis indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. plicit 12:38, 2 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
