Interstate I-296

I am having difficulties in getting the box to work properly. I would like to add the county it is in at least along with the city. The other major issue is the Shield is not getting placed on it. Interstate I-196

I was wondering if you have any time to create a map of that highway. I know it starts at the M37-I96 interchange area then runs all the way to Holland and finally to its connection with I94 northeast of Benton Harbor. BTW it might change in the next few years if the US 31 connection from Napier Ave to Bus I94 gets built which could see it connected with I80/I90 in South Bend. In anycase it will be several years before that will need to be changed. Mihsfbstadium

Thanks for the map it looks AWESOME! BTW like my addition to the article hehe. Say on a side note I been wondering what Michigan would looke like if a number of Interstates would be added to the state. Here is my thought process at first glance, I 65 north from Indiapolis to US 20 to Elkhart then to US 131 with the side steps of the cities along that path up to Petoskey then following the US 31 route up I 75. A new I 63 from Indiapolis to Gary would be used then traveling over to South Bend on I 80/90 to the US 31 Junction then going north on that all the way to Petoskey. A new route from Ludigton to Traverse Citythen a southern Bypass would be needed along with the 120th Ave Corridor from Zeeland to Grand Haven. Another one would be I 73 going along US 223 and then US 127 all the way to Grayling then maybe an offshoot from Grayling to I 63 using M 72. One of the last ones would use the current M 5 to extend I 275 to I 75 around the interchange with US 24. Then a Spur Route of I 94 probally designated I 394 using M 59 to link I 75 to I 94 in the middle of Macomb County. The final major Interstate I could see is using I 98 to designate US 2 and then have an off shoot of that called I 198 to go from Rapid River near US 41 all the way to Houghton. I 98 would probally end at I 35 in Minnesota. My only thought process would be an extension of I 196 to Bay City area. In anycase thats what I am thinking the Interstate in Michigan should look like. BTW if you ever feel like doing this map or showing me how to get that program of yours to do this I would to see all of the Interstates on a map with these.  :) --Mihsfbstadium 16:25, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for getting the others done; I'll add them to their appropriate pages later. As for BUS M-32, what I see shows me that M-32 curves south to avoid Hillman; Veterans Memorial Hwy is basically Old M-32. Hillman Rd turns into State St at the village limit. So, as far as I can tell, the extent of BUS M-32 is from Old M-32 at the south of the village, to CR-459/Carrier Rd at the north end, and it does not in fact touch current M-32 anymore. WP:SRNC

I appreciate your chipping in for Rschen7754, but I'd still prefer to hear his thoughts on my page, not your thoughts on his. Why not at least have WP:SRNC ask for what claim the voters have to voting in a given state?: I've lived there all my life (or for a few weeks, or never); I've edited thousands of pages in that state (or a few, or none); I've passed through once on my way somewhere else, or flown over and spotted some long lines that looked like highways from 30,000 feet; I did a Google search; None of the above. Two of the folks who voted in New Jersey have no demonstrated -- or stated -- connection to that state, based on their lack of edits to New Jersey articles. My vote, whatever I choose, may well be overwhelmed by two people who have never stepped in the state and have never driven on its highways, let alone edit its Wikipedia highway articles, but who at best have Googled various combinations of road names for a given state to determine what they feel is "right". Why not at least try to come up with a standard for coming up with a standard? Why are rules applied mindlessly regardless of effect in some aspects of this poll, but left to complete anarchy in others? If the rules we collectively come up with are to be imposed on non-participants, why not impose them on participants? Alansohn 06:51, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

My apologies

I sincerely apologize if I came across as a bit harsh on WT:USRD/MTF. What I said wasn't the most thought-out comment and, now that I look at it, I shouldn't have said it. Your work is top-notch, as is yourself, and I apologize for my ill-advised rant.

On that issue of the colors, I have to agree with you. I made a map for VT F-5 last night and the lines for F-5 and neighboring US 7, seemed to blend together a bit. See Vermont Route F-5 for a visual example of what I mean.

For that rant on the talk page, I guess what I meant to say is that we should take the proposal as it stands now, place that on the project page, and then we can make changes/tweaks to the standards later on. Since I'm using SVGs, it takes only seconds to fix the maps, so it's really not a problem if we do change the standards down the line. Regards, TMF ^{T - C} 23:16, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

No apology necessary. I'm more frustrated at the current state of things along with trying to come up with an aesthetically pleasing map. I'm perfectly okay with proceeding with the proposal as is. I just have further reservations. The orange is what's really throwing the wrench in. It is too close to red, but I can't figure out what else to use. Every other map maker uses red for the state routes and orange (usually with a diff color outline) for U.S. Routes, but we're using that for the highlighted one. Maps of Highways

I've noticed that all of the maps of Highways you've uploaded (or at least the ones I've seen) have all been in .png format, but wouldn't it be more efficient to use .svg? Yeah, there's discussion at WT:USRD/MTF and in my talk archive. Because of a current flaw in Firefox, and in some cases IE, SVG exported from ArcGIS causes either of those clients to bite the dust when trying to display the SVG under certain conditions. I was informed back in August that there was a bug in Firefox that caused this problem and that it'd be fixed soon, but that hasn't been the case as of yet. So, in short, I'm not making them SVGs because they cause Firefox, and sometimes IE to explode. Cheers. Stratosphere ^{(U T)} 05:14, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Actually, doesn't MediaWiki parse the SVG, and then present it to the EU as a PNG? I'm pretty sure that's how it works, at least. I suppose another thing (though yeah, it's another step that'd have to be done) is to open the SVG in Inkscape, then save it again to make sure it's within standards. Maybe that could fix something, and then give you an idea of what the error in ArcGIS's save procedure is. Just a thought... —IW4^U_T^C 16:14, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Yeah I've done all that. Opening and saving it with Inkscape still causes the crash. Usually the image displays fine in an article and when you click on it to goto the image page, but when you click on the image on the image page, that's when the crash happens, when Mediawiki tries to give you the SVG file. But yes, in the article and image information page it is parsed and displayed as PNG. When the bug is addressed and fixed I can easily go back and export my maps as SVG since I have all the layers saved, until then, PNG it is. Stratosphere ^{(U T)} 16:31, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

Map request: Indian Nation Turnpike

It's a somewhat lonely page, much like the turnpike itself. The northern segment has a lot of traffic, but the southern half peters out outside of Hugo, Oklahoma, just on the other side of the Red River from Paris, Texas. Casual travellers who don't realize that they have to exit to get to Texas will find themselves visiting Arkansas. If they do make it to Paris, they have a devil of a time figuring out how to get out. I think word of the area's Bermuda Triangle nature has spread to the extent that people go out of their way to avoid the southern leg of the turnpike.

I'm not doing anything in particular with the page, so it may be a low priority for you. But it's a nice, long road, rather scenic, and darn near empty. There's something very roadgeek-friendly about it. So if it strikes your fancy, you might give it a little help. Thanks! --Robertb-dc 23:31, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Interstate browse boxes

Yep, you're right. I looked at I-80, and even the states that had their own articles were listed in the browse box. US Route map

Hi,

Would you happen to have a basic map of the U.S. Route system that does not outline any of the U.S. Routes or if it does highlight a route it be the old Route 66? I need to create a detailed travel map of the U.S. Route 66, and was having a littl more trouble than I had original anticipated.
