Wikipedia Help Survey[edit]

Hi there, my name's Peter Coombe and I'm a Wikimedia Community Fellow working on a project to improve Wikipedia's help system. At the moment I'm trying to learn more about how people use and find the current help pages. If you could help by filling out this brief survey about your experiences, I'd be very grateful. It should take less than 10 minutes, and your responses will not be tied to your username in any way.

Thank you for your time,

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Start Something LP[edit]

I intend to write much more on individual songs, having purchased the songbook that accompanies the album detailing chords/instruments/key and of course song information and recording info about individual songs. Many album pages have this information where there is clearly not enough for a seperate page but yet those non-single songs are still part of the album with interesting information that has relevence within the article and album.

If you actually have something to contribute towards the article, you know as in actually writing something, then feel free to, but don't just delete content that I am working on (and that I have been working on for the past few weeks). Regards, Poiuytre (talk) 22:24, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just a note for the future. Don't submit works that are incomplete. — stringDTD 22:28, 3 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Please make sure to include an edit summary. Please provide one before saving your changes to an article, as the summaries are quite helpful to people browsing an article's history. Thanks! Jim1138 (talk) 03:58, 12 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (File:Angelsandairwavelove.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Angelsandairwavelove.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 05:06, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You & I seem to be having problems with the version of this image we're viewing. This has happened to me before when my computer is caching an old version of the image. Uploading a new version usually will not solve this problem. Try waiting until the old versions are deleted, then making a null edit to the file page and the ¡Uno! page. If that doesn't work, try clearing your browser's cache. You should see that the current version is the correct one. --IllaZilla (talk) 18:08, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I have tried both null edit and cleared my browser's cache, but still having the problem. Are you experiencing the same, or has it been resolved for you now? — stringDTDtalk✯ 21:26, 26 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I'm still seeing the incorrect version as the main image, but I'm seeing 5 correct versions in the "File history" section. It truly is flummoxing. I'll try logging in from a different computer tomorrow to see what I get; I hope that deleting all the prior revisions will fix the problem. --IllaZilla (talk) 09:44, 27 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Alight, what's the result on the other end? It seems like I get the right cover now... this is strange as I haven't cleared my cache since I told you last time. — stringDTDtalk✯ 06:03, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
It's weird; I'm on a different computer now and I'm still seeing the incorrect image on the file page, but under "File history" I still see 5 correct versions and on the ¡Uno! article I see the correct version. I even tried clearing the cache. This isn't the first time I've had this problem, though; I think it will go away on its own.--IllaZilla (talk) 17:03, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Hybridtheorydeluxe.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Hybridtheorydeluxe.png. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification, per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

This bot DID NOT nominate any of your contributions for deletion; please refer to the history of each individual page for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 10:00, 30 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Custom signature fix needed[edit]

Hi there! You have a custom signature set in your account preferences. Changes to Wikipedia's software have made your current custom signature invalid.

The problem: Your signature contains a syntax error or obsolete HTML tags.

The solutions: You can reset your signature to the default, you can fix your signature, or you can do nothing.

Solution 1: Reset your signature to the default:

  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Uncheck the box (☑︎→☐) that says "Treat the above as wiki markup."
  3. Remove anything in the Signature: text box.
  4. Click the blue "Save" button at the bottom of the page. (Do not click the red "Restore all default settings" button, which will reset all of your preference settings, not just the signature.)

Solution 2: Fix your custom signature:

  1. Find the signature section in the first tab of Special:Preferences.
  2. Click the Learn more button next to the error to learn how to fix the error.
  3. Update your signature to fix the error.
  4. Click Save to update to your newly fixed signature.

Solution 3: Do nothing:

  1. In accordance with a recent request for comment, all invalid signatures will be changed to the default, which looks like "Example (talk)", one month from now.

If you have followed these instructions and still want help, please leave a message at Wikipedia talk:Signatures. Thank you! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 06:05, 2 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
