Mega Man image[edit]

Excuse me what can I use the image for, what article. I really want to make use of it. TheSpiderKid (talk) 09:49, 3 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@TheSpiderKid: If you can find a place on Wikipedia where critics discuss Mega Man's modern design, you can use it there. If not, you can't. Since the image is copyrighted, not free, it can only be used if necessary to help the reader understand the article. There are many copyrighted images I personally want to use on Wikipedia, but I can't because they do not satisfy the non-free image use criteria. In other words, unless you need the image to convey something to the reader, you can't use it. If you think the image satisfies the criteria for use on Mega Man (character), start a discussion at Talk:Mega Man (character) explaining why. Since you were challenged with the addition, you must follow WP:BRD and discuss and achieve consensus before re-adding. Continuing to re-add the image to the article without discussion is considered edit warring and will get you blocked. TarkusABtalk 12:08, 3 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Castlevania soundtracks[edit]

Hello Tarkus,

I saw you redirected these recently. Would you think a merge would work better? Just create List of Castlevania soundtracks or the like and copy-paste the existing articles over there. Also, I suspect that the Symphony of the Night soundtrack article is worthy of standing on its own regardless of the fate of the other, lesser music releases. Any thoughts? SnowFire (talk) 18:43, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@SnowFire: I would not oppose retaining SOTN. I don't want to copy/paste the rest of the articles because they were almost entirely just track lists which are against MOS:VG so when you take that out, no other information was sourced so there was nothing to retain of value. TarkusABtalk 18:51, 11 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Do whatever you want dude, just purge all video game sound tracks from Wikipedia, I give up trying to battle with Wikipedia's rediculous contradicatory noteability criteria, you're quoting WP:GNG, then WP:NMG has it's own set of guidelines. But I get it some of the most influential video game soundtracks created aren't noteable enough for Wikipedia.Sandprism (talk) 14:33, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Sandprism: My intention is not to purge all soundtrack from Wikipedia, only ones that are not independently notable. I was not familiar with WP:NALBUM, thanks for sharing. Claim #5 which you cited in your reverts states that if it's the only claim, "it is probably more appropriate to have a mention in the main article and redirect to that article". If they are as influential as you believe, there should be significant coverage from sources that go into detail on how the soundtracks were written and their influence. This would satisfy claim #1. There are currently no citations for this in the articles. If you have such sources, you can definitely make an argument to keep them. TarkusABtalk 16:36, 12 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Eternal Darkness: Trimming article[edit]

Hello, I'm the user that's been making a lot of the edits recently to the article in question. I've heard your criticism and have taken it into consideration. I will make many adjustments later today to rectify the issue.

Thanks.

PS. Accidentally made that comment without being logged in. — Preceding unsigned comment added by GeneralRidley (talkcontribs) 13:45, 15 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@GeneralRidley: Thanks. Also if you plan on bringing the article to good article status, the gameplay must be fully footnoted with reliable sources. (Plot does not need sources) TarkusABtalk 14:00, 15 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@TarkusAB: I plan on maintaining this article for a while to come. And I do hope that this article will achieve that status one day. However, I have a question. When detailing gameplay details, how should I find a "reliable source" other than merely referencing the game itself? I could easily find articles praising the Magick system and the Sanity system. Something which I already planned to add as references to at least those sections of gameplay. However other mechanics that are essential to the gameplay experience, but aren't nearly as spotlighted as those I mentioned, what kinds of sources do I need for those? I guess I could easily find a strategy guide somewhere detailing them. I'll continue to try and find outside references. But in the meantime, if you could be more specific about your advice, that would be helpful.  — GeneralRidley (talkcontribs) 21:45, 15 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@GeneralRidley:The best sources to build the Gameplay section would be reviews and previews. You can find a list of reliable sources at WP:VGSOURCES.
You technically can use primary sources like instruction manuals and strategy guides, but I would only use those if absolutely necessary to add a bit of color in tight spots. I say use secondary sources, like reviews, because they describe the gameplay in more general terms, which is the appropriate tone for Wikipedia per WP:GENAUD. The general reader does not need to know every detail of the gameplay, every type of enemy, every type of move, etc. (See WP:VGSCOPE).
I highly recommend building the gameplay section from the sources, rather than writing the gameplay section yourself and adding footnotes for support retroactively. This is so you don't inadvertently add undue weight to certain mechanics or write something incorrect.
Lastly, here are my recommendations looking at the Gameplay and Plot sections.
  • Gamplay: Tighten it up and make it more concise. Lots of unnecessary words and passages. Explain things that need to be explained and do not explain things that don't. Remove the enemy and boss lists, and cut a lot of the magic section, it's too much like a game guide (again WP:VGSCOPE).
  • Plot: The plot for this game need not be longer than three to four paragraphs. Do not parse it out by chapter. Do not explain everything that happens in the story as it happened ("Joe did this then Trisha did that"), but rather explain the plot of the game to the reader. This means glossing over some details and explaining other important events more closely. Remove the character lists. See WP:VG/PLOT for tips.
TarkusABtalk 23:01, 15 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@TarkusAB: I've made several modifications removing the superfluous information from the article. (With your help of course. Thank you.) I'm confident that the content in the article now is sufficient. Not too much, not too little. Though I still might tinker with that now and again. The only remaining issue is I haven't circled back and rewritten the Gameplay sections with references yet.
So, I'm asking if we can change the "Page Issues" from being about having the superfluous information, into being about not enough references? And... how do I do that?
I'm still planning on doing that referencing rewrite. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I want to gather serveral sources first (I already have a few) before doing it all in one swoop. But until I get to doing that, I'm just asking if and how we change the "page issues" to reflect the progress we've made so far.  — GeneralRidley (talkcontribs) 15:02, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@GeneralRidley: Nice work. You can find a list of cleanup tags at WP:CLEANUPTAG. There are no tight guidelines around their use so you can remove and add these tags as you feel is appropriate. I just changed them on the page. Personally, I feel both sections are still too detailed, but that can be assessed through a good article review if you decide to go down that route. See Resident Evil 2 (a featured article) for a good example of what is more acceptable. TarkusABtalk 16:25, 23 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@TarkusAB: Thanks for the help with the sections. I didn't know the clear tag existed. Nor did I think about different resolutions. Sorry about that. And thanks for the correction.

Hey[edit]

I don't really know how to use Wikipedia, so sorry if I'm doing this wrong, but I am Kotaku's Jason Schreier and the line you're editing is not an accurate reflection of what I wrote. Shadow[edit]

Hey Tarkus, I just wanted to ask if The History of Sonic or the Sonic art book have anything on the creation of Shadow, as I'm rewriting the article in draftspace. (I've finally decided to really commit to something, as so much has been going on for me recently I haven't been able to focus much) JOEBRO64 21:31, 26 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@TheJoebro64: There isn't much.
In the art book: There are many concept designs of Shadow (sketches and renders), so if you want me to scan them I can do that. Other than that, there is one quote from Takashi Iizuka on page 187:
"We expanded greatly on the roster of characters from Sonic Adventure 2, when we introduced Shadow and Rouge the Bat. And through these introductions we made sure there were new things happening in the games as well. To us, it's never been about characters you could dispose of in time, but about bringing to life characters players care about over the years."
In the history book:
Page 248: "Shadow was at first scheduled to make only one appearance - in Sonic Adventure 2 - but he later became a recurring character in the Sonic universe thanks to his strong popularity among players."
Page 249: At the beginning of development on Sonic Adventure 2, Shadow was called "Terios", which means "reflection of", since he is Sonic's doppelganger.
TarkusABtalk 22:18, 26 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
OK thanks. This should help flesh it out a bit. I'll let you know later if I feel the concept art is necessary. JOEBRO64 22:53, 26 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Coming back on this, I think some concept art would be neat to include but I don't feel like there's enough discussion of his design in the development section to warrant it. What say you? JOEBRO64 20:23, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@TheJoebro64:Probably not. I don't see any discussion where it's needed to illustrate a point. Too bad because some of the concept designs are hilarious. Search Google Images for "shadow the hedgehog concept designs" and you'll see them. TarkusABtalk 20:55, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
what the fuck JOEBRO64 20:56, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@TheJoebro64: Yea those lol and these are all official. TarkusABtalk 22:04, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Woah I never knew that was concept art of Shadow! I recall seeing a mod of Generations with that character but always thought he was fanmade. JOEBRO64 22:52, 7 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Also wanted to ask if the books have anything on Knuckles? I'd like to give his page a facelift next, and development information is usually the place I start. JOEBRO64 22:22, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@TheJoebro64:
The art book has some sketches but no facts about his creation.
In the history book:
Page 51: Just like with the first two Sonic games, a design contest was launched within the company, but this time it was exclusive to Sega Technical Institute. The goal of this competition was simple: to create a third character who would debut in Sonic 3! After a month, nearly a hundred sketches were studied by the American executives. They took notice of a drawing made by a certain Takashi Yuda. His creation was an echidna named Knuckles. Compared to Sonic, Knuckles had backward spikes and drew his appeal from his strength: "Sonic symbolizes speed, while Knuckles symbolizes power and strength. He is able to break the things that get in his way, to climb walls and even to fly. We had to implement all these elements to create this new character," the game developers explained. At first, Knuckles was not considered by his creator to be an echidna but rather a mole with spikes.
Page 233: Designed by Takashi Thomas Yuda
Page 233 again: At the beginning of Sonic 3's development, Knuckles was supposed to be green, but he would later become red. This was to show the difference between him and Sonic in terms of speed and intelligence versus power and strength.
There is more written about him, but it's in-universe stuff like "Knuckles is a young and naive echidna [...] Knuckles has pride and confidence to spare [...] The echidna has found something of a new rival in Rouge the Bat [...] Knuckles still sometimes gets jealous of Sonic". I think secondary sources would be better to discuss that stuff than this book. TarkusABtalk 02:39, 11 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Temple Run interest?[edit]

Are you interested in Temple Run in helping with the articles? There's only 2 articles for now. But I think the spin-offs can be moved to a "Temple Run (series)" article.Blue Pumpkin Pie (talk) 18:56, 8 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Redlinks: Yes or No?[edit]

Hey TarkusAB, I have a question that I figured you'd have an answer for. If I see a lot of redlinks, such as here: List of Super Nintendo Entertainment System games, should I remove the references so they aren't red or leave them be so that the links work if an article is ever made in the future? (Or I suppose the exact opposite answer of no in that I should make a reference, aka redlink, for all games that don't have one already?) Thanks! --Bchill53 (talk) 20:44, 15 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Bchill53: See WP:REDLINK which sums it better than I could. Essentially, yes there is value to red links, and they should only be removed if you think Wikipedia should not have a page on the subject.
With that article, I would say links could be removed on some of the games/developers/publishers where it's not reasonable an article (or redirect) should ever be created. For example, is Pachi-Slot Love Story notable enough that it should have an article on Wikipedia? Doubtful, pachinko games aren't that notable. I guess someone may try, but do the sources exist out there to suggest that it would pass WP:GNG and therefore should exist? Double doubtful.
So yea, you kinda gotta take it case by case, but default to keeping and only remove when it makes sense. TarkusABtalk 22:09, 15 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@TarkusAB: Makes complete sense. :) I'll see what applies when I look through, thanks! --Bchill53 (talk) 22:12, 15 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

How to add video game logos to articles[edit]

Hi man, i hope you're doing well! Sorry for bothering you right now but i need your help in regards to this subject: I want to add this logo (https://www.planetvb.com/content/images/logos/bh_logo_final.png) to a article i recently ressurrected from the grave (Bound High!) and i don't know how to do so. Thanks! Roberth Martinez (talk) 15:42, 16 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@KGRAMR: Hey, nice work on that article. Are you looking to use the logo in the infobox? I remember reading somewhere to use the game's title screen in cases where no box art is available. So this would probably be better. Just upload it like you would any screenshot. TarkusABtalk 16:08, 16 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@TarkusAB:Thanks as always mate! Roberth Martinez (talk) 16:12, 16 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Full Sail University[edit]

Thanks for removing the duplicate word in the Full Sail University article. I'm not sure if you saw my note at WikiProject Video games or not, but a couple of the editors who often reply to my requests to update the Full Sail article are currently unavailable. I've posted a new request here regarding the university's collaboration with Wargaming, if you happen to have a moment to review. Thanks for your consideration, Inkian Jason (talk) 19:59, 19 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Rule of Rose[edit]

Hi. A long while ago, you left a note on my talk page about a potential collaboration on Rule of Rose, and I was wondering if that was something you were still interested in. Best wishes, Rapunzel-bellflower (talk) 19:04, 20 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Rapunzel-bellflower: Yes. Though it will have to be over the course of a month or two. Don't have the time to edit as much as I did back then. We can split the article by sections if you want. What sections would you like to work on? TarkusABtalk 11:32, 21 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That's perfect! I can take the gameplay, development, plot, and controversy sections, if you don't mind. Best wishes, Rapunzel-bellflower (talk) 18:43, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Rapunzel-bellflower: That works. I will work on Reception. I will also help with Development and Controversy too (and Release if we need to break out a section). It will be probably couple weeks until I get started. I have a few pending GAs and am in the middle of writing Policenauts. TarkusABtalk 18:52, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Wonderful! Take as much time as you need, and good luck with the other projects. Best wishes, Rapunzel-bellflower (talk) 19:23, 22 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

The Removal of Links[edit]

How are the links irrelevant. They give more information about the character. PokemonMaster(Yveltaldevils) (talk) 17:33, 5 March 2019 (UTC)PokemonMaster(Yveltaldevils)[reply]

@PokemonMaster(Yveltaldevils): Fandom is not a reliable source because it is user-generated content. Also in-line external links are poor Wikipedia etiquette. TarkusABtalk 17:36, 5 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request for some Japanese text[edit]

Hi TarkusAB, I was hoping you might be willing to convert some words into Japanese text for me. This pertains to two titles in the Sega article: the company was originally founded as Nihon Goraku Bussan, along with a sister company, Nihon Kikai Seizo (stated by Ken Horowitz as translating to Japanese Amusement Products / Japanese Machine Manufacturers, respectively, with each being a kabushiki gaisha). I thought it might be helpful to have the actual Japanese characters as a footnote for readers, but if I may be honest, I know enough not to fully trust Google Translate with Japanese since it seems to struggle. Can you help me out? Red Phoenix talk 02:54, 9 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Red Phoenix: Yes. Nihon Goraku Bussan is 日本娯楽物産. Nihon Kikai Seizō (note the ō at the end of Seizō for an accurate transcription) is 日本機械製造. The translations by Horowitz are fair. Both of these names can be seen on this official Sega page [1] TarkusABtalk 11:03, 9 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Help in regards to Iron Soldier[edit]

Hi! Sorry for bothering you but i need help in regards to Iron Soldier. I'm almost done with it but the only thing left to work is the reception section, which is currently my main weakness when it comes to writing video game articles. Since Martin IIIa is taking a break from Wikipedia, i can't ask anyone to help with that part as he was the only one i know here that he could help me on that section. I need tips to write reviews so can you help me in that regard? Thanks and have a nice day! Roberth Martinez (talk) 16:22, 24 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@KGRAMR: Hi, the only way to get better at writing Reception sections is practice practice practice. I do not have time to help write Iron Soldier directly, but I can give you tips on how to write a Reception section. Here is how I write them:
  1. Read through each review and make a list of comments they make. Here is an example of how I did this when writing Tails Adventure. Make sure to capture any good quotes if you find them.
  2. Read through your comments. You should now have a general idea of what critics liked and disliked about the game. Start brainstorming how you will lay out the information to provide the reader the best possible overview of the critical reception. The information should be grouped by topic. For example, maybe you collected lots of comments about the game being too easy, so plan on having a paragraph on that. Maybe the graphics were discussed a lot, so plan to have a paragraph on that. If you have a chunk of reviews from the time of release and a chunk of reviews from modern re-releases, split these comments into separate sections or paragraphs.
  3. Once you have a plan, now...start writing! Strike out comments on your list as you use them. You don't need to use all the comments. Maybe no one discussed the music, so if one critic makes comment about it, is it really worth mentioning? Not likely. You are providing a summary of the critical reception here, you don't need every detail. Don't be afraid to change your original plan as you're writing.
Here are a few examples of good reception section I wrote: Phantasy_Star_(video_game)#Reception, Gunstar_Heroes#Reception, Radiant_Silvergun#Reception. Good luck TarkusABtalk 16:52, 25 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@TarkusAB: Thanks man! I will try this. Roberth Martinez (talk) 22:25, 25 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@TarkusAB: Sorry for bothering you once more and it's unrelated to Iron Soldier, rather, its in regards to Fight for Life on Jaguar (a.k.a. the title made by one former AM2 developer): I want to use this piece of concept artwork from the game (1) but the thing is that i can't use it, since i was the one who uploaded it to MobyGames (and I don't want to be accused of self-referencing for doing it) so, is there anyway to upload it to the article page? Just like you did with the one in Metal Slader Glory. Roberth Martinez (talk) 09:20, 14 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@KGRAMR: Just because you uploaded the image to Moby Games does not mean you can't upload it here. What rule are you breaking? TarkusABtalk 10:05, 14 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@TarkusAB:Oh so, i can upload it here? If so, how can i do it? I thought i could not upload stuff i've posted somewhere else already. Roberth Martinez (talk) 11:05, 14 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@KGRAMR: I don't understand what lead you to believe that. Yes you can upload it here. Upload it like you would any screenshot or cover art. Since it's a non-free image, just be sure you have some necessity to show the image to convey something the text discusses. TarkusABtalk 11:47, 14 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Namcokid47:I think this part above in regards of how to add design document or artwork will help you in the future for your articles. I saw what happened to the design document image you added in Galaga thanks to a stupid bot. Take what i've added in Electrocop, Fight for Life and Gun Frontier for example. Roberth Martinez (talk) 21:14, 19 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I noticed that thing got deleted a few hours after I uploaded it. I'll try it again. By the way, excellent work on that Gun Frontier article, looks miles better than from a while back. Definitely consider taking it to GA. Namcokid47 (talk) 00:02, 20 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Namcokid47:Thanks but i don't improve articles for GA, rather, i do it because i want people to learn more about well known and obscure games. If anybody's interested in taking it to GA, that's now up to the people who are interested in doing so... Roberth Martinez (talk) 21:22, 21 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Ay, no worries. The page looks to be around the same quality as a GA so I assumed that's what you were going for. Namcokid47 (talk) 22:56, 21 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Namcokid47:Heh, no problem! Roberth Martinez (talk) 01:45, 22 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Mojang[edit]

Hi Tarkus, in ths edit, you reverted my moving of a distinguish hatnote, which had been added by user HappyINC in the edit prior, to above the infobox, where the other hatnote also resides. Your edit moves the hatnote back below the infobox, which screws up the infobox-hatnote alignment. The associated edit summary, "Not proper hatnote, not ambigous title", does note quit explain why it should be placed below the infobox. Please clarify. Regards. Lordtobi () 12:12, 3 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Lordtobi: Whoops, meant to delete it outright. And if HappyINC sees this, I deleted it because there is no reason someone looking for Molang would arrive at Mojang. We don't account for typos in disambigs. TarkusABtalk 12:28, 3 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
TarkusAB, ah, that clear things up a bit, thanks. Regards. Lordtobi () 12:29, 3 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@TarkusAB: Would you please stop being against distinguish hatnotes? It doesn't matter if they are added or not. just leave them alone. HappyINC 11:02, 12 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@HappyINC: I am not against distinguish hatnotes overall, but I am against using hatnotes improperly. Per WP:HATNOTERULES, hatnotes are used to mention other articles "only if there is a reasonable possibility of a reader arriving at the article either by mistake or with another topic in mind." Outside of a typo in the search box, there is no reason someone would arrive at the "Mojang" article when they are looking for "Molang". Typos are not valid reasons for hatnotes. Other people have reverted your hatnote additions such as on My Little Pony: The Movie (2017 film), with the comment "This is about the 2017 film. If you end here, you do not search the 1986 one". Same principle applies. Does that make sense? TarkusABtalk 11:59, 12 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

List of video games using Vulkan[edit]

Greetings. I contacted you in September 2018 about the DirectX & Vulkan video games lists. Another list of video games using Vulkan has been created; fortunately the lists of games with DirectX support have not been recreated. I see no reason the same considerations wouldn't apply to the new list as applied to the previous, now deleted list. Wikipedia categories already exist for video games that support Vulkan or DirectX 12. Furthermore, at least one gaming-specific wiki has already recreated these lists,[1][2][3][4][5][6] so the lists need not be recreated on Wikipedia. I'm primarily a consumer of Wikipedia, and Wikipedia edits I have made in the past have been minor enough not to warrant registering, so I'm not really in a position to address this other than to bring it to the attention of a registered contributor who might. Thanks.

Sakura Wars[edit]

Hello, TarkusAB. Considering the fact that the genres that I changed in the Sakura Wars games were reverted, I'm thinking about which genres should we use. Should we consider using "adventure game with role-playing and dating sim elements" in the gameplay section and "adventure game" in the lead sections? Thanks, Lord Sjones23 (talk - contributions) 16:00, 6 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Sjones23: I like how it's worded currently. We're not obligated to place emphasis on one genre over the others, and my understanding is these games feature a unique mix of elements. I'm not familiar with the frequency of the genre terms used in the sources to suggest placing emphasis on one genre over another. You may want to engage ProtoDrake as they wrote the articles. Sources in regards to Metal Slader Glory[edit]

Hey! I'm glad you came back to the website :) I don't know if you've noticed it, but I found two articles in regards to Metal Slader Glory that might be useful for the article, which i've listed them at the talk page. Check it out when you can! Roberth Martinez (talk) 23:40, 25 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@KGRAMR: Thanks so much! I'm going to file through them. I need to make it a priority to get MSG review scans at the library next time I travel to Tokyo. TarkusABtalk 00:44, 26 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@TarkusAB:No problem! I'm going to try improving LucasArts' Metal Warriors article then before moving to Highlander: The Last of the MacLeods. Roberth Martinez (talk) 00:52, 26 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@TarkusAB:Hey, if you want sources in regards to Cotton: Fantastic Night Dreams and Gamest in general, you may want to hit up @JapaneseMagScan at Twitter. He is going to try in scanning all of his issues and make them available online. If you're interested, you can also support his effort on Patreon :) https://www.patreon.com/japanese_magazines_scans_project?utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter&utm_campaign=creatorshare2 Roberth Martinez (talk) 01:30, 27 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sources in regards to various game video game articles[edit]

Hey! I hope you're doing well. Sorry if i'm bothering you right now in case you're doing something important but i need a favor to ask you: Can you try looking for some sources and reviews in regards to Crossed Swords II? Its one of the few exclusives for the Neo Geo CD and i want to create a full fledge article for it but since i'm still busy with Highlander: The Last of the MacLeods, can you try to find material in regards to the game? Thanks! Roberth Martinez (talk) 17:53, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@KGRAMR: Sorry I don't have time to research myself, but your best bet is Neo Geo Freak magazine. There are some scans on archive.org. Other than that, I would suggest checking European general gaming magazines like Video Games (DE), Joypad (FR), Consoles + (FR), and HobbyConsolas (ES). European magazines often reviewed interesting imports as long as they weren't text heavy, but since we're talking Neo Geo CD, I don't know which magazines even bothered reviewing games on that system. There's also Super GamePower in Brazil which tended to review obscure stuff. I would not bother checking US mags as the game came out before the system was released stateside. Only one maybe worth checking is GameFan. TarkusABtalk 19:12, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@TarkusAB:Thanks for replying mate! Any progress in regards to reviews about Metal Slader Glory? Roberth Martinez (talk) 19:58, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@KGRAMR:Nah I'm kinda burned out on video game research tbh. TarkusABtalk 20:19, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@TarkusAB:Oh, that's OK. Roberth Martinez (talk) 20:21, 4 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@TarkusAB:Hi! How's it going for you today? Hey, sorry if i'm bothering you right now but if you're interested in taking another video game article to a good-level article (with the green tag), here's one that might be of your interest: Twinkle Tale. I basically expanded what Harizotoh9 barely began, since its one of my favorite obscure titles on the Mega Drive but what it needs a good write is the reception section. Don't worry about sources, as i've pretty much uncovered everything about the title. If you want, you can modify it as well to your liking. Take care man! Roberth Martinez (talk) 19:44, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@KGRAMR: I am familiar with this game and it does pique my interest, but I'm working on a couple other projects at the moment so can't put time into it. Thanks for the heads up and I'll keep it in mind. TarkusABtalk/contrib 23:27, 31 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You know we have to (at least, I hope you do). JOEBRO64 00:47, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@TheJoebro64: You know I want to Joe but I really can't. I've been kinda getting burnt out on VG articles recently. Real life has been keeping me busy, and the little research time I have has been devoted to Apollo 13, which I hope to bring to the front page for its 50th anniversary in April 2020. If you need help on little things here and there, I will always lend a helping hand, but I can't offer to write any sections of the article at this time. TarkusABtalk 03:03, 8 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Silhouette Mirage[edit]

Hey, thanks for taking a look at Silhouette Mirage and for your comments. I'm fairly new to editing despite being a member for years and was wondering if you could give me some pointers on what is lacking in terms of getting the article up to GA status. I'm very keen to learn and to further improve the article, so any advice would be really appreciated.  𝌅 Nealbo 𝌅💬 21:04, 10 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Nealbo: Yea thanks for improving it, it's a lot better. I took interest because I've edited articles on lots of Treasure games and taken them to GA. If I can find some time in the next few days, I will give it a copy edit / read through and let you know my thoughts at a high level. TarkusABtalk 21:13, 10 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, really appreciate it!  𝌅 Nealbo 𝌅💬 12:25, 11 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Nealbo: Comments:
  • Gameplay: I did a short copy edit of this. With gameplay sections, just remember you don't have to explain everything, and explain it in a way that even people unfamiliar with video games might be able to understand.
  • Story: Noticed you wikilinked some random words. Suggest you read about underlinking and overlinking. MOS:UNDERLINK
  • Development: There seems to be a lot of information in those Shmuplations translations. Really nothing else to bring in here?
  • Release: I think I fixed most of the problems.
  • Reception: This section will need to be rewritten. Missing lots of comments from the other reviews, and it's written in the typical "he said she said" format. Suggest to read WP:RECEPTION and follow examples as in Ikaruga and Radiant Silvergun. Also review magazines/sites should be
  • Legacy: No comment.
  • Need to work on reference formatting. They are all formatted differently. They should each use the appropriate cite template for its medium, by filled with the appropriate information if available, and be archived if possible. Again, look at Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga as examples.
  • Other comments. Don't use slashes, like "colour/attributes" as its informal. Also don't say "you" when talking about "the player".
Let me know if you have any questions. TarkusABtalk 23:33, 11 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
That's brilliant, thanks so much for taking the time to look at this - I'll definitely take this on board, check out the links you've given and make amendments. In terms of development I'll take another look through the source to see if anything else of importance can be added.  𝌅 Nealbo 𝌅💬 10:53, 12 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

GameSpot database pages[edit]

Hey there. I'm redoing the List of Pac-Man video games article and noticed that the majority of the sources link to database pages on GameSpot. Are these pages usable as reliable sources or should these be removed entirely? Thanks. Namcokid47 (talk) 21:33, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Namcokid47: It's unreliable. Per WP:VG/S, GameSpot is normally a reliable source but their database is based on GameFAQs which is unreliable. TarkusABtalk/contrib 23:32, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks. I felt those pages were rather fishy already but I just wanted to double check. I'll start replacing them then. Namcokid47 (talk) 23:34, 28 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ultra Vortek typos[edit]

Hi! I know you're very busy rebuilding the Apollo 13 article and I don't know if you can help me but an unidentified IP user claims there are typos on the Ultra Vortek, which I MASSIVELY rewrote. I know i'm not perfect and I consider myself done with the article so, can you try to verify how many typos are on it when you have the chance to do so? I'm busy with other stuff on the site. Thanks! Roberth Martinez (talk) 19:19, 31 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Nealbo: Can you also try to help me in this regard? Roberth Martinez (talk) 19:21, 31 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@KGRAMR: I did a read through and copy edit of the article. The IP that said it needs a rewrite is probably exaggerating. The information is there, and sourced, but there are issues with the writing. I read through the whole thing except the Plot because I personally don't enjoy reading those sections and I need to get back to work.
There are three issues with your writing I see consistently across the article:
Run-on sentences
Lots of run-on sentences in this article. You need to learn to end idea 1 before presenting idea 2. Use commas, semicolons, and most importantly, periods. For example, you wrote:
It is the second fighting title to be released for the Jaguar that unsuccessfully sought to capitalize on the trend of ultra violent fighting games started by Midway's Mortal Kombat in 1992 and the only officially released title that features support with the unreleased Jaguar Voice Modem peripheral for online play.
Read that sentence out loud. (Seriously, read it out loud) Do you start to feel confused and feel like you're running out of breath half way through? That's because you are introducing four ideas (too many) in one sentence:
  1. It's the second fighting game on the Jag (begs the question, what was the first? if this is that important)
  2. It tried to capitalize on the trend of of ultra violent fighting games
  3. Mortal Kombat initiated said trend
  4. It was the only game to support the JVM.
Let's look at this. Idea 4 about the JVM has nothing to do with the first three ideas so it should be separated to its own sentence. Ideas 2 and 3 are closely related and should be in the same sentence. Idea 1 is only tangentially related to ideas 2 and 3 so let's separate that too. Let's rewrite this passage:
Ultra Vortek was the second fighting game on the Jaguar after [x]. It was developed in attempt to capitalize on the popularity of ultra violent fighting games initiated by Mortal Kombat in 1992. It was also the only official Jaguar release to support online play through the Jaguar Voice Modem.
Now I personally wouldn't write the lead that way, I'd move the sentences around to different parts of the lead. This is just an example, but hopefully you see the value.
Unnecessary words
You throw in a lot of words that are not necessary. The scissors are a much stronger tool than the pencil. You wrote:
Jim Meier was its sole art director and also responsible for working on artwork of the stages, in addition of creating the cover art.
I wrote:
Jim Meier was art director and responsible for the stage artwork and cover art.
There. Done. Both sentences give the reader the same information. I did it in a more direct manner, using less words.
Passive vs Active voice
In general, use the active voice whenever possible. It's more direct with what's occuring and who is doing it. I can't find an example looking back, but here is one I made up. Your writing style would give something like:
Development on the game was started by Beyond Games in 1993. The stages were designed by Jim, who was influenced by ancient Korean artwork.
That is passive. In active voice, the subject of the sentence performs the action instead of receiving the action:
Beyond Games started developing the game in 1993. Jim designed the stages, drawing influence from ancient Korean artwork.
That is active. X did Y. Be direct.
A lot of the other problems are just general poor grammar. I can't teach grammar, it just comes naturally to me, but perhaps you can ask for more copy edits from the GOCE, or take lessons online. TarkusABtalk/contrib 21:42, 31 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@TarkusAB:Thanks! I'll keep this in mind during my future works. Roberth Martinez (talk) 21:58, 31 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Chronology Concerns[edit]

Hmmn? So you don't feel that a chronology list is important for the Contra franchise, despite the fact that all the installments take place in a certain order, storywise? Other large long-running franchises, such as Metal Gear have one. But it's cool to me if we disagree. Or could we take some sort of a wiki-vote, if that's possible? (LonerXL (talk) 15:48, 20 September 2019 (UTC))[reply]

@LonerXL: We do disagree. You can take a vote if you want over at WT:VG. Metal Gear is plot-centric. Contra is not, it's mostly about gameplay. TarkusABtalk/contrib 16:08, 20 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

A barnstar for you![edit]

For your work on the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum theft article. As someone who draws a lot, words cannot describe how important and awesome I think it is. JOEBRO64 17:47, 10 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@TheJoebro64: Hey thanks! It's been a lot of work but I feel better about the article now. Gonna try and get back into VG editing soon. TarkusABtalk/contrib 16:41, 12 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Psykio[edit]

I don't know if this helps but it appears members from Psykio left the company to work in SNK. For example, K' is quite similar to the lead from the Fallen Angels with same character designer, Shin'ichi Morioka. However, I don't think I found a good reliable source for that.Tintor2 (talk) 18:45, 25 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Tintor2: It would not surprise me. TarkusABtalk/contrib 19:04, 25 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

More Senic[edit]

Do you have any interest in helping me flesh out the Sonic the Hedgehog article? I've got a draft here where I've been developing updates to implement in the article, which I'm hoping to run through GAN eventually (I've already implemented the history, animation, and film sections). I was interested to know if you wanted to help out a bit. If you're preoccupied or don't want to, that's fine—I just like working with you. JOEBRO64 00:44, 2 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@TheJoebro64:Not that page but maybe the GG games, I don't know, I've felt disillusioned with WP these days. That draft looks really good though. TarkusABtalk/contrib 22:53, 5 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]
