Canvassing[edit]

Asking specific editors for support in a deletion or move discussion is a violation of WP:CANVAS. Please read that behavioral guideline, and be carefuly about it in the future. Regards, Vanamonde (Talk) 17:44, 25 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Canvassing[edit]

Hi. FYI, cross wiki canvassing is still canvassing. You could, of course, post a neutral message at some central source (WT:IN, for example) about the move requests on other wikis. --regentspark (comment) 16:32, 7 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for July 13[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Schönberg, Plön, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Kalifornien (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:20, 13 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Requested Moves[edit]

Have a look at WP:RM to request a move discussion. Regards Megan Barris (Lets talk📧) 09:09, 23 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Discretionary sanctions alert[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Move request at Talk:Allahabad[edit]

Hi. As the nominator of the move, you are not supposed to add a !vote in the discussion. Your support is already assumed (because you nominated). I've replaced your "strong support" with the word "comment". You may, of course, continue to comment in the discussion section either by adding a new comment or responding to some other editor (see WP:RM). When responding to another editor, it would be helpful if you indented your response because that will make it easier for the closer to follow the discussion (see WP:INDENT). Feel free to drop a note on my talk page if you need help! --RegentsPark (comment) 22:21, 11 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Did you realize that those opposing the move of Allahabad to Prayagraj are mainly muslims? There is a clear religious politics mainly islamism in play in wikipedia. Just look at who they are and what they contribute in wikipedia. Be careful, this people can be dangerous. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.109.180.64 (talk) 09:10, 25 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon This is your only warning; if you add defamatory content to Wikipedia again, as you did at Talk:Allahabad, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. One more instance of hate speech as this one and you will find yourself blocked from editing. How to do evidence in Wikipedia move discussions[edit]

I am posting this to try to help you do evidence in Wikipedia move discussions.

Take an example and copy it on to your talk page, or a sandbox page[edit]

This example was copied from Talk:Allahabad

An exclusionary search using Google Scholar by year (as of 27 Sep 2021)
Date range Both A and P Allahabad
only
Prayagraj
only
% both % A only % P only
2021 1,170 4,710 747 17.7% 71.1% 11.3%

Look at the wiki mark-up code for a cell:

|style="text-align:right;"|[https://scholar.google.com/scholar?q=Allahabad%20+Prayagraj&hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C5&as_ylo=2021&as_yhi=2021 1,170]

That was the URL that did the search.

  • %20 is URL code for space.
  • %22 is URL code for inverted commas.

Customise the example to meet your need[edit]

An exclusionary search using Google Scholar by year (as of 10 Oct 2021)
Date range Both A and N-S Astana
only
Nur-Sultan
only
% both % A only % N-S only
2021 1,070 3,590 2,810 14.3% 48.1% 37.6%

What we did was to change where the example said "Allahabad" to "Astana", and where the example said "Prayagraj" to "Nur-Sultan". But that might not work because Nur-Sultan has a hyphen in it. The hyphen confused the URL code, so we need to put it in inverted commas round both "Nur-Sultan" and "Astana" (%22 in the URL code). It is best to do the same processes for both sides.

We then checked what the links produced and typed them in. To get the percentages, put the numbers into Excel and calculate them.

Ah but what if "Nur Sultan" gives different hits than "Nur-Sultan"[edit]

An exclusionary search using Google Scholar by year (as of 10 Oct 2021)
Date range Both A and N S Astana
only
Nur Sultan
only
% both % A only % N S only
2021 1,070 3,590 2,810 14.3% 48.1% 37.6%

It was possible that the search engine when asked for "Nur Sultan" would give different results than "Nur-Sultan". So we replaced 22Nur-Sultan%22 with %22Nur%20Sultan%22. %20 is URL code for the space character. As you can see, the the results are exactly the same. It is always useful to check for stuff like that.

What about different years[edit]

An exclusionary search using Google Scholar by year (as of 10 Oct 2021)
Date range Both A and N-S Astana
only
Nur-Sultan
only
% both % A only % N-S only
2020 1,760 6,450 3,800 14.7% 53.7% 31.6%
2021 1,070 3,590 2,810 14.3% 48.1% 37.6%

To do another year, copy the wiki markup code for the 2021 line and paste it between the code for the 2021 line and code for the heading. Then change "2021" to "2020" in both the first column and the URL codes. Then do a print preview and test each URL. Write in the mark-up code the number of search results for each, and calculate the percentages in Excel.

Hope that helps-- Toddy1 (talk) 10:49, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Toddy1:

If I type in „Nur Sultan“ without the hyphen on Google Scholar -> the hyphen results are also shown, and there seem to be exklusively hyphen results, like everyone Who writes about Nur-Sultan knows he should not forget about the hyphen.

Where do you get the numbers from exactly, where are they to be found?

Thanks for the info in advance.

--Tecumseh*1301 (talk) 18:46, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The concept is that you click on this number - 1,060, you should see a Google Scholar search with a grey line saying "About 1,060 results (0.04 sec)". This is the result for "both" for 2019.-- Toddy1 (talk) 19:14, 10 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Toddy1: Ahh, ok, there is again a difference in searching via a mobile device (there no number is shown at all) and a Computer, I just checked it.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Tecumseh*1301 (talkcontribs) 21:25, 12 October 2021 (UTC)
