Re: Template needed?[edit]

The template adds the article to Category:All articles needing copy edit, where editors who want to help with copyediting can easily see a list of articles that have been flagged as needing attention. Once the copyedit is completed, then the template can be removed. Other maintenance templates, such as {{unreferenced}} or {{trivia}}, use similar categories so interested editors can find and work on articles easily. Thank you for your message. So, actually you say the template is of importance for the editors. My question is, whether it is of importance to the readers. You are writing an encyclopedia for the readers, not for the editors, right? Templatehater (talk) 11:33, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
(delay in reply due to being away from a computer for several hours...) As far as Wikipedia is concerned, there really is no difference between readers and editors. One of the core pillars of Wikipedia is "Wikipedia is free content that anyone may edit." Anybody reading any page can click on the Edit button and update the page, therefore everyone is an editor. The cleanup templates are worded to encourage visitors to click on the edit button and be bold and make updates. The {{copyedit}} template specifically includes the text "You can assist by editing it now" to encourage participation and, hopefully, an improvement in the article content. Thank you for your answer. I can understand your pount of view. Different users have different opinions on what is best for Wikipedia. The freedom of editing gives me the freedom to remove templates if that would improve an article (at least in my opinion). On my user page I've explained why I generally find templates annoying.
It is somehow similar to vandalism. If there were more vandals than people that improve articles, Wikipedia would have failed. If there are more people that add templates than people that remove them, our articles become more and more contaminated.
I want to add to my argumentation that many templates are placed without clear motivation. On my crusade, I often see templates that are there for months, but nobody does anything about it. In no way that works encouraging to improve an article. If you after months of waiting did not receive any responses, you'd better to retract your invitation. Otherwise it becomes just whining.
To come to the point: if you really think the copyedit-template is necessary on the transrapid article, I would accept that. It's not worth a conflict. I just hope my argumentation convinces you and other users. Kind regards, Templatehater (talk) 21:18, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Flagged revisions[edit]

You may be interested in Wikipedia:WikiProject Flagged Revisions, a project I set up to improve WP. If it were fully implemented there would be NO templates visible to the reader. Cheers. -- Alan Liefting (talk) - 19:27, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
