National varieties of English

[edit]

Information icon In a recent edit to the page Scramble for Africa, you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to India, use Indian English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, or New Zealand, use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the original author used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. Thank you. Chris Troutman (talk) 20:36, 14 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Iryna Harpy. I noticed that you recently removed some content from Denial of the Holodomor without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Information icon Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.

When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. You can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → Tick Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. Thanks! 220 of Borg 05:47, 6 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Manual of Style

[edit]

I recently left you a rather obnoxious warning message for editing against the Manual of Style when I was, in fact, wrong about the guideline and you were right. I have reverted myself but I wanted to apologize anyway, since you may notice the message removal. --Spike Wilbury (talk) 11:04, 27 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

No need to "fix" redirects

[edit]

Hi, I noticed you changing links to the Second World War to World War II. There is no need to do this, and in fact the practice is discouraged. See WP:NOTBROKEN for more information. DuncanHill (talk) 11:22, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Maps

[edit]

Hi there. I must ask you to please stop adding low resolution maps to the infoboxes of countries. These maps you are adding are of such a low resolution that the labels and text in them are unreadable. The natural inclination for a user would be to click on them to see more detail, but they can't. As a result these maps are of no use so please stop adding them. POTD selection

[edit]

Thanks for helping to schedule some recent POTDs. Regarding next Tuesday's (Äußere Kanalstraße), in particular, however, the article in question is a stub and thus isn't eligible to be featured on the Main Page. Generally, I try to make sure that the article associated with a featured picture is of sufficient quality (free of any maintenance templates like "needs additional citations" and/or have few [citation needed] tags). As such, we can ensure that articles have enough content to form a POTD blurb and also avoid featuring substandard articles. Cheers. — RAVENPVFF · talk · 15:00, 2 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
