[edit]

Hello, I'm IronGargoyle. I noticed that in this edit to Michael Fitzpatrick (cellist), you removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. IronGargoyle (talk) 18:15, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. 2NumForIce (speak|edits) 16:31, 13 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Please do not use styles that are nonstandard, unusual, inappropriate or difficult to understand in articles, as you did in Michael Fitzpatrick (cellist). There is a Manual of Style, and edits should not deliberately go against it without special reason. Thank you. LizardJr8 (talk) 18:48, 13 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

thx, I'm new to Wikipedia and still learning the ropes! Tuningtheplanet (talk) 19:13, 13 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Bolding text and all caps

[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We usually don't bold text or use all caps except in some cases allowed by the Manual of Style. Excess bolding creates clutter and accessibility problems. You might want to take a look at MOS:BOLD and MOS:ALLCAPS. Thank you! 2NumForIce (speak|edits) 17:00, 13 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Conflict of interest

[edit]

Hi, please read WP:COI as you should declare a conflict of interest regarding Michael Fitzpatrick (cellist). If you have a coi you should not be editing the article directly. Unfortunately the edits you have made are too promotional and removing the references is a bad idea as articles without references are often nominated for deletion. IMDb is an unreliable source and not permitted as a reference. I will be referring the article to the WP:COIN, regards Atlantic306 (talk) 23:31, 16 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, I did not understand this as I am new to Wikipedia. I thought I was allowed to. Tuningtheplanet (talk) 01:45, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Can you please give us a clear response as to whether you have a personal or professional affiliation with Michael Fitzpatrick? Your response will determine the course of action you should take. Thank you. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 21:06, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am Michael Fitzpatrick. I did not understand that I am not allowed to author the page. Thank you for providing guidance on who is allowed to author the page and make edits going forward, very much appreciated. Tuningtheplanet (talk) 22:59, 18 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I understand it must feel strange not to have control over what is written about you. Just know that we strive for articles to accurately reflect the cited writings of reliable and independent sources. If you have suggestions to improve the article that can be cited to these types of sources, you are welcome make an edit request on the article's talk page (Talk:Michael Fitzpatrick (cellist)). --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 04:28, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks for your kind reply! I now understand the protocols and will make an edit request going forward. Tuningtheplanet (talk) 21:46, 19 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again to all editors for your input. The Michael Fitzpatrick wikipedia page was originally created by another individual in 2018. It was not until recently that i discovered that the entry was riddled with incorrect links, extinct links, and larger biographical omissions. In light of this discovery, and following attempts to remedy the issues, i am choosing to delete the page for now and wanted to notify you of this action. Tuningtheplanet (talk) 15:58, 22 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Tuningtheplanet: As mentioned before, you don't have any right of ownership over the article about you. To have it deleted, you would have to convince us that you fail to meet Wikipedia's notability criteria. Notability is a property of the subject, not the Wikipedia article about the subject. Even a poorly written article will not diminish someone's notability if sources exist that can demonstrate notability.
Your edit history doesn't show that you made any edit requests to suggest improvements. This should always be attempted before proposing deletion, unless the article is so hopelessly unsalvageable that the only viable option is to start over from scratch. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 21:14, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, I'm not sure what you were trying to do with this edit. That page is a link to access the contents of Wikipedia as a whole. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 21:18, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
