Copying within Wikipedia requires attribution

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from Breakaway roping into Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. Thank you. If you are the sole author of the prose that was copied, attribution is not required. — Diannaa (talk) 00:00, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

Hello, Diannaa. I apologize for not attributing the original author. I am not familiar with how to do it. If you know how, I would greatly appreciate it if you could help. Thank you very much. Uricarrillo94 (talk) 06:15, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
Hey Uricarrillo94 Diannaa is not going to see your message unless she happens to check your page. You didn't code her username. No problem, though, later on I will help with that and with the copyright attribution. I've done it many times. I also know Diannaa a bit as well; she has covered the copyright areas in an advanced way for a long time. Hope all is well with you. Also wanted to mention that I was planning to help you with sourcing per your request. Just been a bit busy... I think you are getting along great without me these days overall though... and I mean that as a compliment. Also, add a colon for each indent you want to add to a paragraph in here. :)) dawnleelynn(talk) 03:15, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

Hello, Dawn. Thanks for letting me know. There’s still a lot of editing information I haven’t been aware of. I really appreciate your help. I hope all is well with you as well. Uricarrillo94 (talk) 03:30, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

Hi, thanks. I actually noticed that Dianna did the copyright attribution for you. For this particular copying, a note in the edit summary sufficed. You can take a look if you haven’t already. I’ll have some time for editing this weekend. I have some questions for you to help determine how best to start helping you with sourcing and citations. dawnleelynn(talk) 02:30, 1 April 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know, Dawn. By the way, I recently made some minor edits to some articles. What questions do you have for me in regards to sourcing and citations? Uricarrillo94 (talk) 00:42, 16 April 2021 (UTC)

Hi Uricarrillo, I took a glance at a couple of the articles. They looked fine so I'm sure they all are fine. Thanks. dawnleelynn(talk) 03:30, 17 April 2021 (UTC)

Sourcing

Hi Uricarrillo, I need to understand a few things about how you edit and your level of knowledge to help you learn to do citations on your content. Here goes the first round:

  • Do you use the Visual Editor or the Source Editor? Or both? (I use both. For example, if you are doing coding, it's usually easier in the Source Editor. But something like adding content to tables is easier in the Visual Editor.)
  • Do you use a computer or a phone to edit? Or both? (I'm just getting started learning to use the phone to edit.)
  • Have you done any type of coding in the articles? Even if is just adding websites...
  • I believe you already know how to find sources on the Internet. You just may need some direction on which ones are reliable or not? Also, for BLPs (Biographies of Living People), Wikipedia is especially rigid on policies regarding controversial content and reliable sources.

Okay, let's start with that. Add anything else you feel is relevant. I'll check in tomorrow. dawnleelynn(talk) 03:30, 17 April 2021 (UTC)

  • I use the Visual Editor.
  • I use a phone and a tablet to edit.
  • I have added websites in regards to rodeo organizations and rodeo events with Wikipedia articles.
  • I do know how to find sources, but I do not know how to cite them, specifically. Knowing which ones are reliable or not is also a challenge.
Uricarrillo94 (talk) 03:45, 20 April 2021 (UTC)
Hi there, that is most helpful. And now I know why you can't do indenting in these messages. It is possible to add citations with the Visual Editor. Depending on the situation I have used both the Visual Editor and the Source Editor to add citations. I'm not familiar with how the differences in editors when using the phone yet. I don't have a tablet but I think that may be more similar to using a desktop than a phone. An editor friend of mine says she can't use the phone at all to edit Wikipedia, but uses her iPad to edit all the time. I will work on that and in the meantime, I will give you a bit of homework. Take a look at this policy regarding reliable sources. Wikipedia:Reliable sources Don't worry if it all doesn't make sense right away. It is something that will take on new meaning the more you read it and try to understand new sources. Later, I will distill the important parts for you to help you get started. All of the policies seemed daunting to me when I began editing and some still do.... [User:dawnleelynn|dawnleelynn]][[User talk:dawnleelynn|(talk)] 03:34, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

Thanks, Dawn. I very much appreciate it. Uricarrillo94 (talk) 21:32, 30 April 2021 (UTC)

Hi Uricarrillo64 Hi, I'm through some trying issues now. I should have more time. I just created a lesson for you to create your first citation in a sandbox. You can try it a few times and it cannot hurt anything. I'll add more to it soon. It's at User:Dawnleelynn/Training sandbox sandbox. I've noted that Smooth Operator may have lost a step. But he's 11 now. dawnleelynn(talk) 17:49, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

ProRodeo Tour Finale

Hi Uricarrillo64 I see your changes regarding the ProRodeo Tour. The article I used showed the tour finale being at the California Rodeo Salinas at the bottom, which is why I used it. However, you know more about this event than I do so I have no issue with you changing it to another source like you did. Just one thing, the title still refers to the article I added, so you just need to change the title to the title of the article you added. I think you are doing great with the citations overall. So, in both articles, change title=ProRodeo Tour Finale to title=Steer Wrestler Riley Duvall Captures Crucial ProRodeo Tour Finale Win Let me know if you need anything. Happy Trails! dawnleelynn(talk) 03:10, 28 September 2021 (UTC)

Hello, Dawn. Thanks for letting me know. I hope you’re doing well. Uricarrillo94 (talk) 23:51, 3 October 2021 (UTC)
Hi again, thanks for asking, doing pretty well. I meant to also tell you something. That rewrite/reorganizing you did of the intro for Bodacious' article was right on. In fact, if you take a look at Secretariat (horse), you'll notice that the order is very similar. I pick this article because its class is Featured Article (the highest class an article can have). I also pick it because my mentor was one of the editors who brought it to FA class. Most of my articles are C class. After C comes Good Article and then FA. If you take a look at the talk page of an article its class is usually mentioned there. Sometimes the class hasn't always been accurately assessed. However Good and FA has to be assessed by another editor(s) so its usually right unless its has been a long time and editors have made many changes to it such that it has lost what made it worthy. Just some thoughts! dawnleelynn(talk) 20:40, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

Hey, Dawn. Thanks for the information. I didn’t know that each article was put into its own category. I knew some were more lengthy than others, but not that each was put into its own specialty class. You learn something new every day. Uricarrillo94 (talk) 20:48, 8 October 2021 (UTC)

Ty Murray

I know it's been a long time (over a year). Actually right around the time I started working again. But I am between jobs again and have been doing more on here. I've started going through the two books by Murray again. Well, one he wrote with Kendra Santos. I'm working on Murray's article again. I've got the notes you gave me in Wesley Silcox's talk page still. Plus the ones in Murray's talk page. So that plus the books and the American Cowboy articles (I've found a few more) should fill in the Career section nicely. I still plan to take your advice regarding probullstats in that it's not really something for readers. I plan more to only do the highlights. Murray gives his idea of the highlights. Plus, I think you give some good highligihts as well. And I don't think we can use the videos from the bud light user on YouTube; I'm pretty sure they are not what Wikipedia would label as reliable sources. Anyway, I will hit you up to review things as I go along if you are still willing. I am especially hopeful because I know you have more knowledge in this instance. The career section is the only one I had not completed in my overhaul. However, if I find especially interesting content or corrections I may do that. More later! dawnleelynn(talk) 22:39, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

Hey, Dawn. Thanks for letting me know. The extra information should give the article more credibility. Regarding the Probullstats outs, like I said, the information is incomplete in regards to the outs from the 1990s. It’s strange that some outs are on the website, but some are not. Also, I personally find it odd that Wikipedia would not consider the YouTube clips reliable, since those videos are of the actual rides that are mentioned in the article. I’ll be sure to review things if you would like for me to do that. Thanks a bunch for your help and input! Uricarrillo94 (talk) 21:15, 8 October 2021 (UTC)
Hi Uricarrillo, I understand what you mean. I don't think it is the videos. Recalling something you said about rwillie22 now putting his videos on Facebook, the answer is no, we can't use videos from Facebook. It's not a reliable source for any reason actually. Social media in general is not a reliable source for Wikipedia. At any, regarding PBR BudLightCup, it's not the videos that are the issue. I am afraid it's the account. The account has almost no information about it; I mean the YouTube account itself is very closemouthed. And at least some of these videos look like they are from the PBR. I can't see the PBR approving this account with such a username and no credit to the PBR. Let me know if you have information I do not have though. I also know who the main copyright editors on Wikipedia are, and I can ask them if need be.
Also, regarding the PRCA stats versus the PBR in ProBullStats, I actually emailed the owner of that web site once. Slade replied and told me that his records on the PRCA are generally more incomplete than the PBR; he just doesn't always get records for them, and he is just behind in entering them. He also just does focus more on the PBR. dawnleelynn(talk) 03:14, 9 October 2021 (UTC)
Hello, Dawn. In regards to the BudLightCup YouTube account, I don’t think the PBR officially approves of it, but I do know that organization has shared videos from the account on some articles on the PBR website, as well as on the PBR’s social media. I know that those videos were taken straight out of the BudLightCup account for historical purposes since the PBR has not shared those videos on their own YouTube account. Also, thanks for letting me know that you e-mailed Slade Long in regards to the incompletion of ProBullStats outs. Uricarrillo94 (talk) 05:07, 9 October 2021 (UTC)
Hi Uricarrillo. I am not quite sure I understand correctly, but I appreciate your response. Are you saying the PBR took videos from the PBR BudLightCup YouTube account? If so, how could you know that? Is possible it was the other way around? Thanks!

Hello, Dawn. Yes, the footage is owned by the PBR, but the clips from the BudLightCup YouTube Channel is from VHS tapes that recorded the events when they were originally televised. I know the clips were taken from the BudLightCup channel because of the graininess of the clips, and also because there aren’t any duplicate clips of the same rides on YouTube. Uricarrillo94 (talk) 23:50, 9 October 2021 (UTC)

Oh I see now. Hmmm. Will have to think about it. On other note, I've added some content to Murray. It's a bit long winded. Feel free to edit it. If you have changes to make it better, including making it more concise, that is welcome. Or, let me know if you have questions I can consult from the books. I usually write once, then massage it a few times when it's this lengthy. Sometimes I can be a bit long-winded...LOL.Thanks! dawnleelynn(talk) 00:02, 10 October 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for letting me know, Dawn. I’ll be sure to take a look at it and edit if necessary. Uricarrillo94 (talk) 22:30, 12 October 2021 (UTC)

See, that's exactly the kind of stuff we need. Your contributions are invaluable. And if we can make it more concise too, that's great. This is an ongoing project, so edit as many times as you like. I'll be adding more content for PRCA and redoing existing sections. And editing over many times. Great stuff! Thanks! dawnleelynn(talk) 23:05, 12 October 2021 (UTC)

Absence

Hi Uricarrillo, I've been indisposed for almost two weeks now. Unavailable but not ill. A private matter to take of. But I'm back now and you've done an awesome matter of taking care of the PBR Heroes and Legends awards this year. I'm sure the PBR will update their page soon too with the 2021 inductees. I only saw one broken wikilink to correct. I love what you did in the champions article too. It's so nice to know someone else can handle the updates. Good stuff! I will get back to updating Murray's article soon. dawnleelynn(talk) 17:24, 5 November 2021 (UTC)

Hello, Dawn. Thanks for letting me know. Glad to know you weren’t absent because of illness. I’ve been updating as soon as new information came out. Lots of stuff coming up as the PBR World Finals moves along. Uricarrillo94 (talk) 17:51, 5 November 2021 (UTC)
