After looking at all the evidence and consulting with other members of SPI (who have agreed with me that indef block was indeed merited), I've decided, considering your request and with their consultation, to reduce the block to 72 hours with the understanding that Cytowic familiarizes himself with the WP:SOCK policy and you should definitely keep helping him. GA Sweeps invitation

Hello, I hope you are doing well. I am sending you this message since you are listed as a GA reviewer. I would like to invite you to consider helping with the GA sweeps process. Sweeps helps to ensure that the oldest GAs still meet the criteria, and improve the quality of GAs overall. Unfortunately, last month only two articles were reviewed. This is definitely a low point after our peak at the beginning of the process when 163 articles were reviewed in September 2007. After nearly two years, therunning total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. All exempt and previously reviewed articles have already been removed from the list. Instead of reviewing by topic, you can consider picking and choosing whichever articles interest you.

We are always looking for new members to assist with the remaining articles, so if you are interested or know of anybody that can assist, please visit the GA sweeps page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. If only 14 editors achieve this feat starting now, we would be done with Sweeps! Of course, having more people reviewing less articles would be better for all involved, so please consider asking others to help out. Feel free to stop by and only review a few articles, something's better than nothing! Take a look at the list, and see what articles interest you. Let's work to complete Sweeps so that efforts can be fully focused on the backlog at GAN. Hi Brett, welcome. Unfortunately, the community's consensus was to delete. Articles for Deletion lasts for 7 days, following which, if the consensus of the community is clear, I as an administrator act on it. The reason we give it seven days is that by the end of a full week we can usually gauge what the community feels and make a decision on the fate of the article. We also give it seven days so that anyone who thinks the article can be salvaged can revise it in order to make it up to snuff so that it would be acceptable as an article enough to swing the !vote, though, looking at the edit history, no revisions had been made to the page the entire week. As it stands there are multiple problems pointed out in the debate, each of which would automatically cause the article to be speedily deleted, such as Notability and Verifiability. Additionally it was completely unsourced. Also, writing an autobiography is discouraged. User:Astronaut proposed that we temporarilly put your article into user space so you can work on it, though he too also asked for it to be deleted. If you want and have e-mail set up on wikipedia, I can e-mail the article to you as it was and you can create a userpage atUser:Brettfrana/Brett Frana. Let me know. If we are talking about an official band website, I would say it still doesn't satisfy verifiablity or notability. You need news articles, etc, in order for it to satisfy either. Please see Wikipedia:Third-party sources for what the article requires. What is the URL though, and I'll check it out, even though I realize it hasn't been changed yet. And as I mentioned the consensus of the community was that the article should still be deleted, so that's the bottom line for now. Consider taking Astronaut's suggestion and write it on your userpage, because it cannot currently stand as an actual article for the reasons discussed in theAfD. Unfortunately, the last two links did not direct to articles. Garradam seems to be an official site (and therefore first party) a fansite, Mininova is a torrent site, reverbnation seems to be like myspace. As far as I can tell none of these sites can be used to satisfy verifiabilty nor notability. It's the burden on the editor to prove those two things and as far as the AfD is concerned, those who weighed in unanimously did not see that in this article. Valley2city^‽ 07:40, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Hey Jared, thank you for understanding. I would suggest to first of all keep doing what you're doing. I would also suggest manually reverting edits or using the "undo" function and manually posting the appropriate warning template to a vandal's userpage (along with a welcome for new users). Sometimes we get too comfortable with the semi-automated Twinkle and I often manually warn to keep me on my toes. This is especially important when you are beginning to fight vandalism. Learn how to manually send reports to WP:AIV (Administrator intervention against vandalism) for vandals who have exhausted their warnings. As for time/edits, there is no fixed threshold and each administrator might have different standards, but I think that you're on the right track so give it maybe a week or two and a couple dozen more proper reversions. Though I will be on a semi-break for the next nine weeks, I should be on a couple of times a week so you can just ask for rollback here on my talk page. Alternatively you can post again to Requests for Permissions. Either way, it shouldn't be an issue at that point. If you have any more questions feel free to ask. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mika's second studio album

I apologize in advance if this sounds nitpicky... When there are some delete !votes on the board, we can't really close something as "nomination withdrawn". It implies that the AfD is fully in the hands of the nominator, which it is not once the AfD is set in motion. In this case, it could seem a little dismissing of User:JJL who was still recommending deletion. The exception, as perWP:SPEEDYKEEP, is in cases where the nominator withdraws the nomination and there are no "delete" !votes in the discussion at all. Don't apologize, you were right to call me on it. My reasoning for this particular close was because the reason for the AfD was no longer valid and was thus the reason given for the withdraw. I didn't mean to disenfranchise anyone by closing it as such, but in my opinion the reasons no longer existed for the AfD to remain valid and thus I ruled the way I did. The above English footballer was the subject of an AfD in March 2009, the result of which was to delete due to him not at that time having played a pro game. Tomorrow evening he is likely to make his pro debut for Blackpool F.C. and so I have created the article in my sandbox in readiness for when he eventually plays, which if not tomorrow should be within the next four weeks. I was told that an Admin could userfy a copy of the original article in case there is anything in it which can be used for a new article. I've no idea what was in that article, however it might have something that can be used, so as you were the Admin involved in the closure of the AfD, would it be possible for you to do this? Unfortunately, there was so much vandalism coming from this shared IP address that blocking was the only option. I only blocked for a short period of time and people with already existing user accounts from this address should still be able to log in without any problem. There are other edits in the recent history besides the removal of material, some of which was general vandalism, some of which was engaging in an edit-war, some of which was down-right defamation. The challenges of having an IP address, particularly a shared one, are that people might ruin it for others as is the case here. People who have previously created accounts can still login. WHAT Wikis Take Manhattan is a scavenger hunt and free content photography contest aimed at illustrating Wikipedia and StreetsWiki articles covering sites and street features in Manhattan and across the five boroughs of New York City.

In the future you can submit pages for speedy deletion and report vandals who have been sufficiently warned toWP:AIV. For something general like this it tends to go faster if all admins are notified at once, as we can easily check these pages which are centralized. Keep up the good work fighting against vandalism. Block of Joebobtwoshi

Hello, I noticed you recently blocked my account, Joebobtwoshi, citing it as a vandalism-only account (I changed routers so I can continue editing from a different IP). Perhaps you did not notice a few of the constructive edits made by Joebobtwoshi to various small articles and one to a larger article's talk page. It's true that while many of these small edits were to new and poorly-created articles, almost all were constuctive, providing accurate Wiki links and formatting. Based on this, I ask you to unblock Joebobtwoshi, I don't find it fair at all that it was blocked (at least a warning would have been nice). 71.231.93.28 (talk) 04:31, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

The edits were not constructive but instead were attacks against wikipedia and its editors. You also admitted to being a sockpuppet; sockpuppetry is a violation of wikipedia policy and merits an instant block. The block is therefore justified. Evading a block by jumping IPs is also not allowed. Do you think you would actually be able to contribute constructively to Wikipedia? As it stands I do not see anything constructive. Do you know about the contributions page? I assume you do because you are apparently an administrator. Please look at it. None of the edits were attacks against Wikipedia, and only a few were attacks against an editor (my sockpuppet, so that doesn't really count, I don't think) (they weren't really attacks, either, merely unconstructive edits). You are making assumptions without checking the facts. I know I'm editing a bunch of pages that are marked for speedy deletion anyways, but I did not create any of those articles and almost all my edits were merely adding Wikilinks and fixing formatting. I'm not sure how that's unconstructive, let alone an attack on Wikipedia. If you don't like my edits, then fine, you can advise me against them, but suddenly blocking me without warning and without just cause seems too harsh. I'm aware of your contributions. The various signatures you gave to your username, as can be found in thehistory, reflect your negative view of wikipedia and constitute an attack. You also make a false claim of being an administrator and having other rights that you don't haveon your userpage. Nothing can justify that. In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, review the recent Wikipedia Takes Manhattan, plan for the next stages of projects like Wikipedia at the Library and Wikipedia Loves Landmarks, and hold salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects, for example particular problems posed by Wikipedia articles about racist and anti-semitic people and movements (see the September meeting's minutes).

In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and generally enjoy ourselves and kick back.
