Welcome!

Hi there Vasco, glad to here that you've decided to become a full-time registered WikiEditor, and as you correctly say then every edit you make under your name will add up. Here's my advice about what to do next:

  1. Edit your user page (User:NothingButAGoodNothing) with some brief biographical details about yourself - who you are, where you're from, what you like etc. Have a look at my page for some help.
  2. If you want to join WP:FOOTBALL then please simply add yourself to the list of participants. When joining the project, you should watch the WP:FOOTBALL page. This allows you to keep up-to-date with discussions about the project on the talk page. Then simply get editing, and take part in discussions about the wonderful world of football.

Happy editing! Kind regards, GiantSnowman 23:28, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Hey again, I've created you a basic userpage, hope it looks OK! Thanks, GiantSnowman 14:29, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Reporting vandals

Hi Vasco. It's nothing you've done wrong, and it's nothing against you at all - so don't worry. The best place to report persistent vandals of pages is at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Hope this helps! GiantSnowman 23:42, 8 March 2009 (UTC)

Vandalism

Hello. I think you can read Wikipedia:Vandalism, particularly the section How to respond to vandalism, and see what you can do.

Another way, since the pages are football-related, is to go to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football and raise the issue there. Just point out that this vandal, using different IP addresses, has continously been putting false information on pages of AEK Athens players. There should be a few administrators out there who can help you with the problem.

Hope this helps! Chanheigeorge (talk) 03:37, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

re:pedido

claro, é simples, basta incluires o código nome do template na tua mensagem.

:) --Waldir talk 22:15, 16 March 2009 (UTC)
Certo! Obrigado, e para ti também ;) --Waldir talk 23:51, 16 March 2009 (UTC)

Héctor Berenguel

Hi Vasco, getting rid of duplicate articles is quite easy. All you havr to do is edit the article you DON'T want, and redirect it to the article you DO want, with something like this:

#REDIRECT Héctor Berenguel

Any more questions then just ask! Thanks, GiantSnowman 09:11, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

AIV reporting

Hi Vasco, now that you seem to be coming across edit of and being the target of more and more vandals it becomes important that your events are dealt with by a number of different administrators and that records of these events are kept in a more centralised location. To assist could you please make all future reports of vandals at this page. You'll note that there is a very precise reporting method which must be followed and that your report will be dealt with (usually) at a very fast pace. Of course I may be one of the admins that also deal with your reports there. With thanks and good luck --VirtualSteve need admin support? 21:24, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Regarding your questions to me

Hi, first don't give up on trying to put your edits in at Death of Baby P. The problem I saw, this is trying to remember from off the top of my head so apologies in advance, is mostly concerns with Biographies of a living person With articles about people the rules are real strict for obvious reasons. With the horrendous nature of this crime it has brought out a lot of emotions in some people too which makes me maybe a little too cautious. I took a quick glance at what I reverted and maybe I was incorrect about doing a complete reverse, I'm not sure. I recently had surgery on my spine so I am having a bit of trouble focusing my thoughts so I do apologise for that. There is nothing at all for you to apologize for though. May I suggest you rereading what you put in and taking the simplier things you said you did and readd them. I found that the tone of how you were commenting on the people who did the crime was too strong. Now I could be wrong about this and wouldn't mind at all if you asked someone else to take a look. I am just slowly coming back to editing but with the pain meds, physical therapy I tire real easy which makes it easier for me to make an error. If you would like in the morning I will relook at what you put into the article and see what it was, I just can't right now. I hope you understand. But mainly, don't worry about this. Everything can be reverted so be bold. Happy editing, --CrohnieGalTalk 16:15, 14 October 2009 (UTC)

Just want to let you know that it was my mistake not yours. I had an editor I trust check my revert of yours and for the most part your additions were good and I shouldn't have reverted. Please except my apologies for this error. You can see what was said about your edits on my talk page by User:Wildhartlivie. Thank you in advance, --CrohnieGalTalk 09:00, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

Rollback

I have granted rollback rights to your account; the reason for this is that after a review of some of your contributions, I believe you can be trusted to use rollback correctly, and for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, just let me know, and I'll remove it. Good luck and thanks. Your Welcomed Response to my Note

Dear Vascal:

Thank you very much for your civil reply to my concerns. This "no-IP" talk page is QUITE impressive, sir, and I congratulate you on your past efforts and successes here at Wikipedia. I hope you continue to contribute, and if you ever need to blow up and raise #$%^^&, please feel free to drop me a NASTY message on my talk page anytime :-)

I wish you the best, in life and in cyberspace. If I can be of assistance, let me know. Further, I will immediately let the administrator I contacted know of your polite answer, good faith intent, and your wish to improve ... like we ALL need to - I have myself blown up a time or two :-)

P.S. - this editor is one VERY nice person, drop Chzz a nice note like your kind and on-point one that did on my page, and see what happens!

Welcome back

Boas Vasco. Glad You're Back!

Dear Vasco:

I'm glad you are back, and have been wondering about how you're doing. Thanks for your VERY kind words you left on my page.

I reply here, with a "new section", instead of at my page where you posted, to symbolize "a new start". Look, I'm sorry about everything that happened. I'm not even sure how I got started on it, to be honest, and I'm too tired and in too much hurry to re-read everything. My remarks about being really offended were probably WAY exaggerated, I don't remember, really. Things have been hard for me, too, in the real world.

So let me just say LETS FORGET IT. I got a lot going on, same as you, and I probably over-reacted. I look forward to seeing you around, will keep you in my prayers, and hope you do the same for me. Let's both BE TOUGH, and move forward, in our personal lives, and in building this encyclopedia together, which I hope will benefit people long after we are gone. See you later!

Hi Vasco, hope all is well. I suppose it doesn't make much difference whether or not it is a 'Reference' or an 'External link' - after all, the information is still present - but my reading of WP:EL says that these links on this page should be presented as inline citations. or however you spell it. I've given them a level-2 warning. Next time you notice them doing it, if it's sometime soon, just continue the warning process with a level-3. See uw-vandalism3, which is appropriate for repeated disruptive edits. Don't shout at them or talk to them, just edit the May 2011 section by adding

~~~~
replacing "article-name" with the name of the page where they've changed the stats without changing the date, and use the edit summary "level 3 warning", nothing more than that. If they do it again, go up to level 4 by adding
~~~~

Then if they do it again, report them at WP:AIV for "disruptive editing, changing footballer stats without changing as-of date, after polite requests and full set of warnings". cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:08, 18 May 2011 (UTC)

Confused

Re your edit summary: "Yes DOOMGAZE, nice work, but leave clubs unpiped in BOX! Please?" I have to say I'm really confused, I don't remember piping or unpiping anything in the David de Gea infobox. Cheers, doomgaze (talk) 23:30, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

Hey no worries. I can see where that might have happened. I had to revert quite far back due to vandalism so I may have accidentally changed something that I didn't mean to. I've got the article semi-protected anyway so it should be vandalism-free for a while. Keep up the good work, take care. doomgaze (talk) 23:45, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

Un Saludo — Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.84.23.35 (talk) 16:32, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Lucho

Hi, I am not sure I wrote 10 to 15 line paragrahps where I don't mention him. But I would write about games he was not included to show that when he got back into the team he influenced proceedings. However before I edited the page all it said about his Marseille career was that he played with fellow Argentinian Gabriel Heinze and that he won Ligue 1 so I am just happy that it has relevant info now. I also edited Lisandro Lopez's page a lot so you can see if I was overwriting there and edit it to Wikipedia's standards. Rupert1904 (talk) 11:42, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Re your message. For what it's worth, my general view of footballer article content is:

Only mentioning when a player joined each club, what division it was in, and if they won anything is a start, but it's not enough
Listing every match played and every goal scored by a player is overdoing it

Ideally, we'd land somewhere in between: including enough detail to give the reader a rough understanding of the player's contribution to the team(s) he played for, so long as it's reliably sourced, neutral in tone, and not the editor's personal opinion. hope this helps, Struway2 (talk) 12:05, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

Thanks Vasco

Many thanks Vasco, like you I am hugley irritated by vandalism, and it is always important for the correct information to be on player pages. Hi there CREATOR, VASCO from Portugal here,

in this footballer's article, me being the one editor in between your last two (anon, i was logged off), do you mind telling me where did i fail to give a reason for my removal of the prod? Maybe you did not agree with my reason, but that's another story...

If it was a matter of language, i'll rephrase it better now, hopefully: in my view, this (and several others) article has no storyline, no transfer news, goal news to backup, no sentences whatsoever. So, why are the external links not sufficient as sources in your opinion?

Keep up the good work - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 01:17, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi Vasco. On the English Wikipedia since the was applied, all biographies of living people created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one reliable source. A reliable source is a reference that directly supports the contents of the article. In the case of Javier Carpio there are only external links. External links do NOT directly supports the contents of the article. If you feel that in this case an external link is supporting the contents please label it correctly, for example with a ===Reference=== section, otherwise add a reference that supports the contents of the article. Questions of a storyline are not have no meaning as all BLPs require a reliable source, with or without a storyline. Regards, SunCreator (talk) 11:22, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

Hello. No, I've never been contacted by him. As you can see from his talk page history, I've PROD'd quite a few of his creations because they didn't meet notability criteria, but he has never complained or attempted to prove that they are notable by taking them to AfD. I thought he might be put off interacting with others because of the language barrier, however, ignoring you is more puzzling. I'd continue to monitor his creations to make sure they meet the standard required. Keep up the good work fighting the good fight. Argyle 4 Lifetalk 23:00, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

Hey Vasco, I'm writing on Gokhan Inler's page now because he had nothing before about his Udinese career and all the stats were wrong for him. I am not done but I just want to make sure I am not overwriting and I am focusing on him. Also I wrote that Udinese finished 7th in Serie A in the 2007-08 campaign, meaning they just missed out on Europe. But they played in the UEFA Cup the next season and I cannot find out why. So I would appreciate any help you could give me as to why this is. Thanks! Rupert1904 (talk) 17:01, 2 June 2011 (UTC)

I thought it was inappropriate to have a forward stroke in a title, so changed it. After I changed it, I realised I had inadvertently changed the meaning that the title should convey, so I modified it again. I then changed some of the text of the article. On both occasions, I used the word 'rubbish' and met (and probably exceeded) the low standard which you have set for use of the word, as illustrated perfectly by the link you sent me in the second paragraph, where – contrary to your claim – you changed one piece of data and made no alterations to the formatting. If you're really so terribly upset by this, I suggest you think before using those words yourself.  Omg †  osh  15:41, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi Vasco, having a quick look through the histiry, I don't think I've ever tagged that article as unreferenced, as it clearly is! However, it is an orphan, as it doesn't actually link to any other mainspace pages...regards, GiantSnowman 14:39, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

Those are pages that the 'Borja Criado' article links to - we need pages that link to Borja Criado - so mentions of him on club articles, player articles, competition articles etc. etc. GiantSnowman 11:19, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

de la Peña y Luis Enrique

Hi Vasco, I am not too active at the moment on WP so I often just forget answering talkpage messages. Luis Enrique is a popular coach since the very first minute he joins one of the most popular Italian clubs, as AS Roma is. And his coaching career must be kept separate from his playing biography, they are two completely different things! Same applies for Iván de la Peña: true that he retired only a month ago, but, as mentioned in the source I attached to the article, he is now assistant coach of Luis Enrique himself at AS Roma, so he has now basically started a coaching career too: same applies here, this kind of information should not be confused with his details as a player. I mentioned Guardiola in the summary for a reason: despite having had a successful career as both a player and a coach, he has been into managerial duties since a very short time (he took his first coaching job only four years ago). I might have mentioned other coaches as Vincenzo Montella, Leonardo Araújo, Marco Giampaolo, etc... all having a "playing" and a "coaching" section. For assistants, same applies: say for instance Giuseppe Baresi, who has never been head coach anywhere but has his own coaching section as well. Greets, --Angelo (talk) 00:48, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

Not really. You need to specify he is a "head coach". That's how it works, indeed you have different kinds of coach: not just assistant coach, but also goalkeeping coach, fitness coach, youth coach, etc. It is fundamental to distinguish between these roles, needless to say that. --Angelo (talk) 15:43, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Hello my friend. I am aware of this rule. The stats i posted were referring to league games and came from the official website of the greek football league (http://www.superleaguegreece.net/team/58/11/426) and was also confirmed also from my personal archives. The website you are referring to has not taken in mind that the greek league the last years has added classification games witch are not mentioned in the stats they provide. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by EXORKISTIS (talkcontribs) 18:04, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi, his bdfutbol stats show him relegated in 85/6 with Atletico B and I presume they don't carry stats below the 2nd level, hence he does not appear for two seasons. The NFT source shows zero apps for these two seasons which I assume just means they don't have stats. Is there any online source with 3rd level stats for that period? Eldumpo (talk) 18:45, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

Hope bdfutbol add those stats in time then. I've removed the Atletico stats from infobox as we don't have the info. Thanks. Eldumpo (talk) 19:29, 20 June 2011 (UTC)

Helmuth Duckadam

I'm sorry, I didn't realise the stats box was for League only. Please tell me where in Wikipedia it says that this is so. And if that is so, it should state it at the top. In footballing publications, it is common to include goals in all significant competitions, a convention that should be adopted. It is strange and arbitrary to include only domestic league goals. For example, many managers prioritise European Cup matches over domestic league matches these days, so to exclude goals scored by players in those competitions gives a distorted view of success. Also, you need to be more polite when alerting someone to something like this. I may not be an expert on wikipedia, (just someone trying to do my bit) but show some courtesy. 86.26.67.210 (talk) 15:51, 22 June 2011 (UTC)John Lewis, what's from England

Rafik Halliche

Hey, I saw your revert for my last edit in the Rafik Halliche article. I understand your logic and understand that you're not supposed to use full club names in the infobox. However, take it from me (and my work on Algerian football in Wikipedia), you simply can't refer to an Algerian club as Hussein Dey, it makes absolutely no sense. You have to refer to it as NA Hussein Dey. Look at any article that relates to Algerian football and you will understand. I know it might seem weird to a non-Algerian but Algerian clubs are referred to like that. For example, NA Hussein Dey is also referred to as NAHD for short, and both names are used interchangeably when referring to the club. However, the club is never referred to as Hussein Dey in the Algerian press.TonyStarks (talk) 19:50, 22 June 2011 (UTC)

Hi Vasco, I've replied at WT:FOOTY, all I said was to report the IP at WP:AIV for breaking 3RR, something I have given him a final non-admin warning about. Regards, GiantSnowman 21:43, 23 June 2011 (UTC)

FYI

Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to UD Las Palmas: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. -FASTILY (TALK) 22:06, 23 June 2011 (UTC)

Re: Hugo Rodallega

Hi Vasco,

Yes it's a bit of a pain that he's seemingly ignoring the reasons we are reverting his edits. I considered requesting page protection, but he doesn't do it often enough to warrant it really. Hopefully if enough people put it on their watchlist then it can at least be undone quickly. J Mo 101 (talk) 23:03, 23 June 2011 (UTC)

Re: happy editing

Yes, I saw your apology, it's always the bigger man who apologises first, good stuff. However, don't always assume that "vandals" or "trolls" are that - please remember to assume good faith, and try and guide, rather than chastise, new editors. Yes, some will be nothing but vandals, but you and I - and indeed 99.99% of good editors still active today - started by making the very same mistakes. Regards, GiantSnowman 23:59, 23 June 2011 (UTC)

User page vandalism

You've done the right thing in not rising to the vandal - if they strike again, let me know. If & when they do, report them as soon as possible at WP:AIV - in the meantime you can request permanent page protection for your user page at WP:RPP, should you wish. Hope this helps! Sporting CP squad / Ajuda

Caro amigo, tens toda a razão!

Hi Vasco, thanks for your support. Regarding Demichelis transfer to Malaga, this reference (which was already included in the article) http://fantipp.fcbayern.de/de/aktuell/news/2010/27364.php?fcb_sid=6ec5256e5d53fcbbe27e8a59bee87acaHe from FC Bayern Munich says in in one place: Entgegen anders lautenden Medienberichten aus Spanien handelt es sich bei dem Wechsel des argentinischen Nationalspielers nach Andalusien aber nicht um ein Leihgeschäft, sondern um einen endgültigen Transfer. Which means roughly translated: Contrary to reports in Spanish media, the transfer to to Andalusia is not a loan, but a final transfer. --Jaellee (talk) 06:34, 30 June 2011 (UTC)

^^ For what it's worth, it had just occurred to me that Links sections could very well be homogenized by trimming them to this self-sufficient cluster of powerful databases (hence the addition of Transfermarkt). I did not delete (superseded) Futbolme ref just for the joy of it (?) but for clarity purposes. Anyway, it's ok with me: it's not that they bother me that badly :P Feliz verano, Vasco. --DataSport (talk) 18:33, 3 July 2011 (UTC)

Sergio Canales

Hi there. Regarding your comments: 1. Sergio Canales's official profile on Real Madrid.com was not removed, just moved from external links to references (since I used it as an reference) 2. I didn't know that; tought that the accessdate was changed everytime it was accessed.

And why did you revert the whole of my edit, and not just the part with the accessdates? Like you said: "respect other people's work". You should undo your revert and then fix the accessdates, and if you feel necessary, Canales offial profile on external links.

When it comes to honours and 2010-2011 vs 2011, 2011 would be correct becuase the trophy was won that year. Yes, the seaon is 2010-2011, but trophies are won either in the first part of the seaon (super cup, club worl cup etc.) or the second part (league, CL, cup etc.). 62.50.175.31 (talk) 21:08, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

I agree that all the rounds are important, but since the 'whole cup season' is linked, it is unnecessary to write 2010-2011. 2011 is enough.
And regarding the profile; on the profile the statistics are much more detailed than any place else 62.50.175.31 (talk) 21:28, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

" RIGHT BACK Hilario (Perugia)

Perugia's lack of reliable and consistent defenders has not prevented Hilario from taking the honour of claiming a place in our selection. The Portuguese defender is the only backline player who has performed admirably and consistently to guide Perugia to a respected mid-table placing without always having to look back over his shoulder for the relegation zone. "

"The Portuguese defender is the only backline player who has performed admirably and consistently to guide Perugia to a respected mid-table placing without always having to look back over his shoulder for the relegation zone."

Re: Club names in box?

Greetings,

I don't think that's the right approach for clubs' names in infoboxes. "Real Valladolid" is only 15 characters (plus spaces) long. Reducing it to ten is not going to improve the appearance of the infobox... especially when "Newell's Old Boys" is 17 characters long (with spaces) and the width of the infobox will be determined by that entry. If Villar played for Montevideo Wanderers or Manchester United (long club name picked out to prove a point), I wouldn't expect a fellow editor to reduce the appearance of the club's name for the width of the infobox. Those are the names of the clubs and should be displayed properly. Thanks. Digirami (talk) 08:42, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

Certainly not you or me because we know our football clubs... But there are other who don't; others unfamiliar with the sport. I just think that if the common-name of the club ("Real Valladolid"... evident by the article title and usage in tables), we should use it in infoboxes as well. Try getting into the habit of adding sources for what you add to articles (external links aren't the same as sources). At the time of my edit, there was nothing in the prose to suggest he was loaned from Liverpool to Le Havre; in fact, the infobox suggested he was loaned from his youth club (St Pierroise) to Le Havre! Infoboxes

You're not missing anything, Vasco. I just find the infoboxes make more sense to me if the related club parameters are on the same line. I think it looks far neater in the edit box too. When the information is spread out over many lines, it is possible for editors to get confused when updating stats, so I think the way I have it helps with that too. So it's not a major thing, just something I prefer. Most people seem to agree with me, or at least they haven't reverted me! – PeeJay 00:43, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

Hi Vasco,

this user has been getting on my nerves, too. He is deleting stuff from infoboxes (mostly about lower class teams) without any explanation but he is not an outright vandal. I tried to put warnings on his talk page, but with no success (he is using so many IP's that it is difficult to track him). I was considering asking you to talk in Portuguese to him as he is from Brazil and I knew that it is your native language, but obviously you had no sucess. Hey soccer fan

Vasco, how are you? Long time no see. Listen, I have a question for you. I was just looking at Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, which is in a terrible state (well, it was worse before). The entire biography is about one thing, a corruption scandal. Can you add a decent and properly sourced biographical section about the man and his life/career? I've looked for decent articles in the same category and finally moved over nextdoor, to Spain, where I found that Florentino Pérez is decent (though I'm not sure about the need for a list of signings). Josep Lluís Núñez is not badly written, though completely unsourced. I don't know if you're a Porto fan or not, and of course that shouldn't matter. ;) Anyway, I thought you might enjoy an exercise in writing the biography of a non-football player. Thanks, and take care-- Drmies (talk) 17:54, 8 August 2011 (UTC)

There is no need to insult anyone, in all of this, you have made numerous gramatical errors in some of your revisions yet I have left them alone to avoid any conflict. It is not neccessary to act as one with little or no class by insulting someone who has never done anything to you. I dont appreciate it and wanted to let you realize the type of classless behavior you display when you write insulting comments like that.

Hola Vasco

Honours and "Real"

Hi.

Regarding runners-up in honurs; no problem.

Regarding the "Real"; the "Real" in 'Real Betis', 'Real Zaragoza', 'Real Madrid', 'Real Sociedad' etc. should be kept since this is the common name in English for these clubs. And regarding "REAL RACING CLUB DE SANTANDER" the correct name to use would be 'Racing Santander' since this is the common name in English.

Also 'expect' and 'except' are two different words (no offence). 62.50.175.31 (talk) 19:13, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

No, revert the page move - there was a discussion about what the proper name should be. If he disagrees, ask him to start a new RM. GiantSnowman 01:23, 17 August 2011 (UTC)
On further checking, there was only a disucussion between me, you and the IP! He has reverted your move, so per WP:BRD, now is the time to start a new disucssion. I'd advise you formally list it at WP:RM. GiantSnowman 01:26, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

Contested move

Vasco, the Quique Sánchez Flores article has now been moved once in each direction. You moved it in late June, then User:Xxxx693 moved it back in August. You filed this under 'Uncontested moves' at WP:RM which is not the right section, since obviously someone disagrees. Please edit the WP:RM page to place the request in the normal move section (called 'Current discussions' ) and open a move discussion on the article talk page. There are templates for doing this. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 02:11, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

The edit I made is appropriate for the WP:PLOT guideline. If you want to make an edit of your own to mine you're more than welcome to, but the victim's physical death by shock, malnutrition, etc. is not what's essential to attaching his situation to Sloth (deadly sin). The important point is that the victim is left "physically and emotionally inactive." Sottolacqua (talk) 14:34, 17 August 2011 (UTC)

Userpage vandalism

I reverted edits he made to the page earlier i.e changing the names again. In terms of page protection you probably need to request that again as this seems likely to continue. In terms of vandalism to your user page if you feel your being targated because of your edits then you should report it to an admin. There is a list of pages you can report to at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents.Warburton1368 (talk) 16:24, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

Hmm, very strange indeed - but it was only one edit, and the clerks over at SPI are re-checking, so maybe it could be a technical fault? And if not, maybe it could be a genuine case of WP:LITTLEBROTHER. But please don't lose heart, your work here is far too valuable. Regards, GiantSnowman 00:44, 24 August 2011 (UTC)

Per the policy, reverting someone edit usually need a reason, my bad grammar did not means the content is useless, just correct it. but just likes you did it in Óscar Pérez Bovela and somewhere i yet to find, you give no reason in edit summary. Only RRV did not need reason in edit summary but seems my edit isn't, so you need to give some reason such as the content is unarguably unless or some valid reason to remove it totally. If this still happen again (remove content other than RRV without any reason in edit summary), i will report to admin notice board. Matthew_hk tc 02:54, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

Hi there MATTHEW, VASCO here,

please stop threatening me with blocks, everytime i have made a mistake, i have apologized and corrected my errors. What is wrong with you? Attentively - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 05:03, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

NO war. Just don't use roll back/revert on content other than RRV without provide a edit summary. For Mexer, Sporting had wrote something on the half-yearly report 2010-11, not like in the prospect of the Sporting bond, just mentioned in the table. Matthew_hk tc 17:19, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

Userpage protection

The protection is indefinite (I didn't set an expiry on it) and it is still in place. Your userpage is semiprotected, which means anyone who has the autoconfirmed user right can edit it, and to become autoconfirmed you need ten edits and your account needs to be four days old. These vandals meet these requirements, so they can edit your userpage. I could full-protect your userpage, but that would prevent anyone who is not an administrator (including you) from editing it.

I would block the vandals for you but it seems they're about to be blocked for sockpuppetry anyway. You did the right thing by filing a sockpuppet investigation request, if the harassment continues WP:ANI might be able to help. --Hut 8.5 21:02, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

OK, I've full-protected your userpage for a month. If you ask me this is a bit overkill in response to this level of vandalism but I don't mind doing it. If you do want to make an occasional edit to it then I don't mind doing that. --Hut 8.5 09:43, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
Sorry, the protection policy doesn't allow user talk pages to be protected other than for very short periods to combat very severe bursts of vandalism (see Wikipedia:Protection policy#User pages) because unregistered users need to have a way of contacting you. I suggest you follow the advice below: if someone leaves you one of these messages then remove it and report the user to WP:AIV for blocking. Hut 8.5 11:27, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

Hola Vasco,

Nuevamente agradecido. Saludos Scoelho86 (talk) 22:33, 27 August 2011 (UTC)

Thanks Vasco, I already put my username on the list. Seguimos en contacto, Bonne Semaine. Scoelho86 (talk) 19:13, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

2. Las ofensas racistas que este tipo infringio contra ud y contra mi (como - you suc.ks jijijjij [3], you're so id.i.ot [4], + you're so idi.o.t, so st.u.p.id guy, fu.c.k.i.n.g portuguese, i ha.te the portugueses [5], entre otros ), me hicieron tomar la cosa ya más personal, porque aunque nací en colombia, no me considero colombiano, sino canadiense (por adopción) - portugués (por herencia, porque mi abuelo es portugués y con orgullo exhibo y poseo dicha nacionalidad).

Scoelho86 (talk) 03:52, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

Quique Flores

OK, the main thing to do is to ignore - don't respond, don't retaliate. Then report him to WP:AIV, and get your talk page protected at WP:RPP. Hope this helps! GiantSnowman 23:00, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

It basically means that it uses two different types of references - i.e. one section is supported by the external links (his club details etc.), while his shorter international section is supported by in-line references. Ideally, we should try to use inline references all the time. Cheers, GiantSnowman 09:33, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi Vasco, I assume it was you who cleared up the Pizzi page (good job btw), just so you know, in the statistics table I put Covilhã as fist division as he ended the season in that league with Paços Ferreira, and with Braga and La Liga because he will play this year with Atlético in that league. I wasn't sure which to put, but thankfully you have corrected it now. I'm sure you'll agree that his page needed more information, it looks far better now. --82.32.211.12 (talk) 22:59, 4 September 2011 (UTC)

Vieirinha

Yep, you were correct to remove POV in the article, and you were also correct to explain + justify your actions when questioned. I have clarified the appropriate policy for the editor in question. Cheers, GiantSnowman 12:03, 8 September 2011 (UTC)

  • Hello again. I am glad that the unjustified rollback/deletion/undo or whatever you call it, was cleared out, backed by the intervention of the Giant. The unacceptable part having been cleared, I will nevertheless stick to my opinion that your action was also rude in itself. I take it that you presumed that it was just another case of a "passionate" Greek "fan" that "charmed" the article for fun. That was only partially the case. Even though the superlative language use and the lack of references do not formally comply with WP-NPOV policies (this much I, naturally, agree/admit to), I do not agree that the distortion in the truth of the player's profile was that dramatic (lets leave Messi & CR7 out of this). Moreover, I am sorry that an editor/vigilante, like yourself (please excuse the cosmetic-title, if you will), thinks so little of one of his compatriots. Especially if that compatriot excels in what this editor refers to as "the beautiful game", and especially if that compatriot is an ambassador of the sport and of (nowadays scarce) team ethics. Anyway, thanks for your (so prompt) corrections. It's good to know that WP is not a fan-site, but, fear not, I will return with refs/sources and less flashy descriptions. Because, if someone reads your version about Vieirinha, and sees the photo, he'll assume he's just a thick-shanked short-stuff who's done a couple of decent years in a no-name team... Is that true? You might agree, but I will not. In view of this question, I feel that (certain) sports should fall in the same category as religion and politics. It's so much more than just facts & references. Best regards & stay vigilant. Seriously now, I was astounded by the "pace" of the reviewing/correcting mechanism. Keep up the job -- Aleonymous (talk) 13:55, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Rudeness (also called impudence or effrontery) is a display of disrespectfulness by not complying with the social "laws" or etiquette of a group or culture. These laws have been established as the essential boundaries of normally accepted behavior. To be unable or unwilling to align one's behavior with these laws known to the general population of what is socially acceptable is to be rude. I wasn't rude to you, I wasn't rude to WP, and surely I wasn't rude to Adelino. And frankly, I don't think that Lionel or Cristiano would call my actions rude. However, in your case, you ousted someone's praises of another person, just because saying things like that "does not comply with WP-NPOV policy". How does that feel like? I understand that my action was UNACCEPTABLE (based on WP-policies) and my text was rightfully discarded, but your action was RUDE in view of my respect for this particular individual. It's not like I was swearing or cursing at somebody, or hurt someone's feelings or beliefs; that would make me rude. But, I guess that you don't really give a dime about all these things because being an acclaimed editor is already a hard job, so, to make a long story short: I was wrong, you corrected my wrong-doings, I apologize for my demeanor, and I hope this settles it. I'm sorry to have troubled you. Good evening -- Aleonymous (talk) 23:24, 8 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Well, there was indeed a tone of something in my responses, but no, twas not mockery. It was more like bitterness stemming from my reproach of your actions (as explained before). So, I'm sorry if I insulted you. Moreover, as I already said, I don't think little of you. Evidently, what you do in WP you do it well (Ref: awarded editor "soccer star" etc). My comment was related to this stiffness of doing everything so "by-the-book". But that is a question of principle, and the principles of WP (NPOV) are strictly outlined, so I won't start discussing that here. Finally, you were right in my dislike of Messi & Ronaldo! The former plays for Barcelona that seriously annoys me, while the latter (AKA the "whiner", Ref:Euro2004) radiates a displeasing aura. As you see, you really "pushed my button" by referring to those two, comparing them to the "adored" Vieirinha (POV)! PS - the "troubled" bit was no sarcasm neither: I really think what you guys -unselfishly- do in WP is praiseworthy, and you don't need vandalizing hooligans to make things even worse... Nice talking to you, Vasco, and thanks for the advice on WP-editing - Aleonymous (talk) 10:55, 10 September 2011 (UTC)

Vieirinha : OK, thanks!

Vasco, OK with the final touches on Vieirinha. I hope it will be appropriate to add a line or two after the match against Tottenham this Thursday! As for Barcelona, I don't have anything with the players or their style, it's just that Barcelona matches are of small interest: you always know the outcome and the way it's gonna come (pass, pass, pass, pass, pass, through-ball, dribble past GK, score on open-goal). Finally, thanks for the advice on editing (Refs, Links, etc). Aleonymous (talk) 17:31, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

  • Relax, that's what I was talking about! Updating his "score" record. Hopefully not the "sent off" and seriously not the "severely injured" one! (Thumbs up for ACM yesterday) Aleonymous (talk) 06:22, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
  • Well, RM (your "special one" too!) are really annoying with all the millions-of-euros spent, so I won't mind them getting a lesson from DZ, whom I've come to like after we stole them the 2nd place in the EL group stage last year! Now, Porto... Well, there's a question here: Porto comes from a "small" country (no offense), so people around Europe tend to like them. They also seem to "create" players (i.e. not buy them), which also seems nice. However, I don't really know what is the opinion of non-Porto Portuguese people... I'd tend to believe that there must be something rotten in them! Frankly, its only natural (due to language "compatibility") that Portuguese clubs "feed on" the swelling Brazilian player-market, so it's kind of bizarre that only Porto has reached such a high competence level in Europe. Actually, that's just the problem with the national championships of "small" countries: At any given time windows, there are generally few (or even just 1-2) promising teams, so they tend to dominate everything, i.e. competitiveness eventually dies out. The general championship level would soon follow, if it wasn't for international competitions that help teams keep it up; but that's just for the top ones, so the "gap" always broadens. Aleonymous (talk) 10:34, 14 September 2011 (UTC)
  • I completely agree with your point. Something should be done, at FIFA/UEFA level, at least. But unfortunately, under this trend, the situation is getting more-and-more difficult for "national" players to revert. Perhaps with the economic crisis in the euro-zone, kids will start playing football for livelihood, so we can "export" them to Brazil and Argentina instead! I'm Greek alright, and concerning PAOK, the players I (and I hope most healthy fans) really like, apart from "superstars" like Vieirinha (!) and "warriors" like Pablo Gabriel Garcia, are the young Greek ones, e.g. Stefanos Athanasiadis, Sotiris Balafas along with more senior ones like Salpi. You're right, FCB does have a relatively healthy youth-system (even if they're not all Catalans), whereas Arsenal, Porto, Real-Madrid etc really stink at it, judging from the "promoting national football" POV. One more thing about RM fans: I was really astounded when, two years ago, they voted Raúl González as one the least-liked players in their squad, thus prompting his departure. Ungrateful? I hope he gets to cross with RM somewhere in the CL and "tip" them with a couple of goals! Aleonymous (talk) 12:38, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi, I did not know that all these IP edits from Brazil most probably belong to this user. Andrés respone

Yes, you're right at some parts. Then, I didn't thought that Asier was promoted as the first-choice, because Ricardo played in all La Liga fixtures during the last season. After my edit, I noticed that I was in wrong, but didn't re-edit it, because I forgot it in the late night.

I don't also doubt your positive intentions, but we both know that we're in Wikipedia, in a encyclopedia. That's why we must write only facts, not your 'storylines'. About Ricardo, I know, he will turn 40, but he is still 39 until 30 December. Andrés is second-choice goalkeeper and is playing, only because Asier is injured... and Asier is the first-choice, and probably will play when fit. --MrEskola (talk) 14:23, 20 September 2011 (UTC)

Re:Opinion

Personally, I think all mention of "first-choice goalkeepers" should be avoided - to me, it comes across as POV. Playing more games doesn't make you first-choice if that is what you are going on - the other keeper could be injured/ill etc. This means that neither player should be described as "first-choice." GiantSnowman 22:35, 20 September 2011 (UTC)

Pablo

Hello. There's little point me telling you yet again that the reason we don't link well-known countries, nationalities, etc is because the Manual of Style tells us not to, but I did anyway: see WP:OVERLINK bullet point 2. Linking is about giving the reader useful things to click on: I'd guess there wouldn't be many readers of an article about an ageing Spanish centre-back who suddenly want to jump to the article about England the country. There's no real point linking to both the group stages of this year's Europa League and to the competition as a whole: if the reader wants the Europa League in general, they'll find a link to it right at the top of the 2011–12 UEFA Europa League article. Though if you're going to link both, it'd be less misleading to link "group stages" either to the 2011–12 UEFA Europa League#Group stage section or to the specific article 2011–12 UEFA Europa League group stage.

Re the Championship being the English second tier, I've never understood why you have a problem with giving the general reader odd bits of information that they might find helpful. We aren't writing specifically for the knowledgeable football fan. And as to the layout of the lead, it surely isn't standard in any language, at least when writing for an adult readership, to leave a blank line after each sentence of a simple short paragraph? cheers, Struway2 (talk) 14:55, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

Wikipedia does not need keyboard warriors

Despite having been reprimanded for it many times, you continue to use an extraordinarily aggressive and inappropriate in your editnotes. You have claimed many times that you will make an effort to curtail these, but this is not happening. You accuse other editors of racism, but you are prone to emphasising the nationality of other editors in these edit notes as though it were relevant, or as though you had uncovered a weakness. You make sarcastic comments about the standard of other people's English in editnotes are scarcely justified given the errors that you make in the language. You accuse others of edit-warring, when you are just as culpable of not bringing the matter to talk pages as they are. You wind up other editors by declaring your joy in reverting their edits. It is never acceptable to describe another editor as human waste. Frankly, you give the impression of a child who goes out of his way to wind up bigger kids who are known to be prone to acting roughly, and then running off to the teachers on duty as soon as they respond. And in regard to the teachers in that analogy, please note that WT:FOOTY is not WP:AIV. Kevin McE (talk) 07:55, 25 September 2011 (UTC)

Re: Atila Turan

Sigh. I don't know where you get this "everyone is out to get Vasco" idea from but, in my case, it was hardly that. In Tiago Targino's case, aside from one reference, the article was completely un-sourced and obviously needed to be, so I added some. As for Atila Turan, the article is on my watch-list and, after seeing your edits, I thought I'd expand the article. First off, Turan being born to Turkish parents as you stated was a completely un-sourced claim (for some reason, you have a habit of not sourcing the majority of your work), so I changed it to Turkish origin as that is the only statement I have found in sources (Being that he is of Turkish origin). Who knows, his parents are probably from Turkey or maybe.......just maybe his grandparents or his great grandparents or only his father or only his mother are from Turkey. It's all hypothetical, so we go with what the sources state and I've yet to find one that states his parents came directly from Turkey.

As for the piping, for the umpteenth time, in France, clubs are referred to by where they are based, not there full names, En Avant de Guingamp is known simply as Guingamp, AC Ajaccio as Ajaccio, Le Havre AC as Le Havre. Need I go on. I kept the Portuguese clubs unpiped because I don't know how they are referred to. Sporting Clube de Portugal seems to often be referred to as simply Sporting CP, but I am not from Portugal or have any knowledge of the club other than it being a decent side, so I didn't change it. Same with S.C. Beira-Mar. You know what's funny, I was hesitant to improve on the article because I knew you were going to come on my talk page and say something. You really have to stop taking things so seriously. You improved on my work and, I, yours. If I disagree with an improvement you've made then I will inform you cordially and nicely in the edit summary. Case closed. — JSRant Away 21:23, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

I've never said I was afraid to edit articles you've edited. Trust me I have, see David Luiz, Sergio Canales, and Tiago Targino for examples. I said you take things way too seriously. Looking at your recent edits, you've completely blown out of proportion a tongue-in-cheek edit by a user. Were you that insulted that you had to get GiantSnowman involved? As for the Coupe de la Ligue stuff, I took care of it. — JSRant Away 21:37, 6 October 2011 (UTC)

Removing inline references

You removed the cited source for Andy van der Meyde's career stats without any attempt at explaining why in your edit summary. It's concerning that an editor of your experience still doesn't seem to have grasped that content is supposed to have sources. I do hope that this and Borja Granero were the only occasions on which you've removed references or sourced content for no apparent reason. It would be extremely concerning if you were doing this regularly on articles that people don't happen to notice. Struway2 (talk) 07:43, 14 October 2011 (UTC)

The article Eugenio Bustingorri has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

I could not find significant coverage of this specific player in reliable sources. Delete per WP:GNG.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Saludos Mega60 (talk) 10:42, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Dinis Silva Gomes Resende requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Halliche again

Hi Vasco, thank you for your reply and I appreciate that you took the time to send me a message. Don't get me wrong, I completely understand your reasoning and the and I know that for the majority of clubs you can do that .. but trust me, it makes absolutely no sense to do that for Algerian club names! It might be hard to understand for someone not familiar with Algerian clubs but as you may (or may not) know, Algerian football is my speciality .. and having a club by just its neighbourhood or city makes no sense. For example, the club Halliche played for is known commonly known as NAHD .. or NA Hussein Dey when you want to expand it. You will never see Hussein Dey by itself in someone's biography, makes no sense lol. Anyways, once again, I appreciate that you sent me the message and I know it might not be the reply you are looking for but please please take my advice on this one. Keep up the great work! Roda JC

Hey there, VascoAmaral. Yes you may go on ad infinitum - and will still be wrong. What is true for many a Dutch club - i.e. Feyenoord, AFC Ajax, Vitesse - is not true für Roda JC. The fact is, that Roda JC changed their name officially to Roda JC Kerkrade in 2010, as you can read in this notice. Reason for this was financial help from the city of Kerkrade. Having been told, maybe you will revise your move of the article. Best regards -- Jo Atmon ello 12:58, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

El Mundo opinion piece

The column used on Inaxio Kortabarria and José Ángel Iribar as a reference is nothing more than an opinion piece, and a pretty extreme one for that matter. The facts we are trying to back are:
a) Both players carried the basqued flag at one match.
b) Iribar later became involved in politics.
Right?
On that column these two ideas are mentioned once, in the middle of an ocean of vaguely related stuff. I have provided 2 concise and realiable articles backing both a) and b). That El Mundo piece shouldn't be anywhere near wikipedia, even less a source. Hoping you consider my take on all this. Kind regards. --Txuriurdin (talk) 23:41, 10 November 2011 (UTC)
The only reason why the word BLOG doesn't appear on that url is because it was written in the year 2000, when blogs weren't yet widespread. El Mundo is indeed a respectable paper but it contains opinion pieces as well as news. Only the latter belong in wikipedia as references. When I call it 'an opinion piece' I'm not just being dismissive, I'm pointing at the fact that it is not a piece of news. It's like using a column from a 9-11 conspirationist as a reference, arguing that one of the thousand 'facts' mentioned is, strictly speaking, true. I will insist on taking it off. Have a nice weekend. --Txuriurdin (talk) 14:15, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

MYS77

Hello. On the basis that every one of his creations over the last month or so passes WP:NFOOTBALL and is properly ref'd, showing he quite clearly has grasped the correct guidelines, I didn't see any need to speak to or about him at all. The non-notable articles were created 9 and 14 months ago, not last week, and the correct action would have been a routine PROD. I see Giant Snowman has offered to help you with that. I think you are being over-sensitive about the external links thing: it was a positive comment on what MYS77 had learnt about how Wikipedia articles should be built, not a sideswipe at your editing style. And yes, I do think his English has improved tremendously. He makes mistakes, but his sentence construction is much better than it was. If you do copyedit his work, please use a light touch, and please follow the Manual of Style. I'm sure you don't want to discourage a useful contributor. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 13:55, 17 November 2011 (UTC)

It is beneficial to the reader to include key information in the lead, such as clubs that he has played for and international recognition.

Mexaboy (talk) 23:31, 12 December 2011 (UTC)

Evanílson Aparecido Ferreira

Hi Vasco. I checked the German references in the Evanílson article and an additional one in the kicker and I understood the following things:

In 2011, Amoroso moved from Parma to Dortmund in exchange of the transfer rights for Evanílson and an additional sum of 15.5 million Mark (about 8 million Euro). kicker says that the cost was the transfer rights for Evanílson plus 15 million Mark (7.7 million Euro).

Der Spiegel estimated that the total fee for Amoroso was about 51 million Mark (26 million Euro) because the transfer fees for Amoroso and Evanílson were offset against each other. This would mean that the transfer rights for Evanílson were valued at about 36–37 million Mark (18–19 million Euro). kicker says the transfer rights for Evanílson were valued at about 39 million Mark (20 million Euro). kicker called this amount inappropriate, inflated and absurd and confirms that this was done for accounting reasons.

Evanílson was then loaned back to Dortmund for the 2001–02 season, says Der Spiegel. kicker agrees and says that Dortmund only paid a tip or beer money ("Trinkgeld" in German) for this loan. I cannot confirm the €250,000 annual rent that are currently mentioned in the article. kicker also says that a contractual clause forced Dortmund to buy him back in the summer of 2003.

The other source (Transfermarkt) in the article said that the total fee for Amoroso was 35 million Mark (17.5 million Euro). I don't know how this adds up with the other sources, but I would consider Der Spiegel and kicker more reliable.

I hope that helps. --Jaellee (talk) 20:18, 9 December 2011 (UTC)

Hi Vasco, that comment was because you had repeatedly removed the single (kicker) reference of a BLP article and moved it to the external links section. Some time ago (years?), when there was the discussion about deleting all unreferenced BLPs, I put at least one inline reference into the articles of those German footballers that were in the category "unreferenced BLPs". Granted, the kicker references are not really "good" references, but IMHO they are better than no reference with regard to WP:BLPPROD. I asked some days ago at WT:FOOTY, if external links are as good as inline citations with regard to WP:BLPPROD and the general opinion was that it will probably be okay for the moment, but who knows what will come.

So please do not remove the single inline reference without providing another one, okay? I saw too late (after my edit) that the Uli Hoeneß article did in fact contain another reference ...

About kicker with a small letter "k": kicker always uses the small letter in there publications (see Kicker (sports magazine)#Trivia). So in my opinion, if kicker themselves uses consequently lower case, shouldn't Wikipedia do that, too?

Sorry Vasco, I was just composing the answer right this moment. --Jaellee (talk) 21:20, 13 December 2011 (UTC)

Runner-up

--Raulseixas (talk) 16 December 2011 (UTC)
Vasco, I respect your opinion, but I am not the only one who thinks that runners-up "honours" should not be listed. If you look at the edit history of Gerard Piqué, another editor recently reverted Raulseixas' addition too. If the Project thinks we should add them, fair enough, but for the time being I've seen no consensus to add them. – PeeJay 08:36, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

Que tal então colocarmos assim: Born in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain / Born in Terrassa, Catalonia, Spain / Ou seja, retirar a província. Ficaria a cidade, a comunidade autônoma e o país (daí eles sossegam).

"Fixing" redirects

Hello. I know it's probably pointless expecting you to take any notice, but please consider taking notice of the editing guideline called Do not "fix" links to redirects that are not broken. It says "Some editors are tempted, upon finding a link to a redirect page, to bypass the redirect and point the link directly at the target page. While there are a limited number of cases where this is beneficial, it is generally an unhelpful exercise, and it can actually be detrimental. With a few limited exceptions, there are no good reasons to pipe links solely to avoid redirects. It is almost never helpful to replace with redirect."

For instance, an editor may write "in the seventh minute of stoppage time..." rather than "in the seventh minute of stoppage time..." because just plain linked stoppage time will always link to the right place, and because it doesn't make the edit window difficult to read by cluttering it up with a long-winded link.

If the exact place that stoppage time redirects to gets changed in the future, as doubtless it will, what's easier to fix? one redirect from the page stoppage time, or umpteen articles containing stoppage time. Happy new year, Struway2 (talk) 16:00, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

It's difficult watching an editor of your experience and enthusiasm being so reluctant to follow Wikipedia's various guidelines when doing so doesn't fit in with your preferred way of doing things. Not just the redirects thing, although it's not the first time that's been mentioned to you. But that's no excuse for me starting the above post in an uncivil manner, and I hope you'll accept my apologies for such unnecessary rudeness. Struway2 (talk) 19:58, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Duda - Respuesta

He intentado explicar lo mejor posible. Saludos. --Raymond Cruise (talk) 18:48, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

Regional player categories

Thanks my friend, though I think as a compromise we should include both regional + national categories, until consensus is firmly established. Yes, studies have finished, working isn't nearly as fun - hope you had a great 2011 and hope you have a better 2012! GiantSnowman 16:16, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

I noticed as well that you (that is, Vasco) have been doing some reverting. You should keep in mind that the discussion has not been about the existence of the regional category as such, but rather about whether it makes any sense to include the national category as well. Both Camw and myself have expressed the opinion that it isn't necessary, because the national (parent) category is already implicitly included in the regional subcategories, which is why including the national category as well doesn't give any new information. In word: in cases where a regional category exists, the national category is redundant. The discussion can basically have two outcomes: either a consensus is reached about replacing the national category with the regional one in cases where a regional category exists, or, which seems more likely, no real consensus is reached, in which case the practical outcome will the same as in the hypothetical situation where everyone would agree to keep the national category alongside the regional one. In any case, the regional category will remain. The question has been only this: will the national category be kept as an explicit category even in cases where it is already included implicitly as a parent category of the regional one? This now seems likely. Omitting a category would of course require a much clearer consensus, which is why I think that the national category will probably remain even in cases where a regional category exists, and I'm perfectly willing to accept that result. The unilateral action that you (that is, Vasco) have been taking lately, on the other hand, is way out of line. If you had just limited yourself to merely adding the national (parent) category alongside the regional subcategory, that would be perfectly all right. However, you have been removing the regional subcategory from many articles, and that is definitely not the correct way to act in a situation of this kind. I'd like to remind you once again of the fact that the discussion was not about the existence of the regional subcategory as such, but about whether we should explicitly include the national (parent) category even in cases where it's already implicitly included (through the regional subcategory). Do by all means include the national category, I have nothing against that (the outcome will almost certainly be that both categories should be included), but I strongly advise you not to go on deleting the regional category, as there cannot possibly be any justification for such unilateral action. Monegasque (talk) 19:17, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

Raul Meireles

Boas noites.

Hi Vasco, what was the rationale behind this edit. You have removed an in-line cite and have replaced his early career with two uncited paragraphs. Please don't keep moving references to external links just because you like it that way. All work should be directly cited. If parts of the article are being sourced by references placed in External links then instead they should be directly cited. Eldumpo (talk) 10:56, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for your response. Your edit summary indicated that it is 'better as a link'. Why do you think that, bearing in mind WP:EL. You also state that it 'sources nothing'. This is not true, the text I added for that section was supported by the NFT reference. Of course we don't need to use NFT to source moves, but we need to be using a cite from somewhere, and not relying on just placing external links at the end. I removed the existing text in the section because it was unreferenced, which is perfectly acceptable to do. However you should not have just undone my changes because you were removing directly sourced info.
Yes, the NFT source had additional info on his other clubs, it doesn't mean there's anything wrong with using it as a source for these clubs. If you have a problem with using NFT full stop that is another question, but this is used on a large number of football articles, and I note it was you who added it as an External link to this article originally. In any case you should not have just removed the cited text. The early career section of his current article is largely uncited, and only the last part of the second sentence is cited. Regards. Nicknames etc

Hi Vasco, I'd say that the best online resource that can be used to determine quickly and in a reliable way whether a player is usually referred to by a nickname or not is this: [6] . The link opens directly on the current squad of Albacete Balompié, which we can use as an example. You will see that those players who are usually known by a nickname are listed by their nickname, while those who are not are listed as "Surname, First name". It seems to me that the most sensible thing would be to let transfermarkt.co determine in each individual case whether a nickname can be used in sorting the player or not and it occurred to me that you would probably agree with me on that point. What is needed here is a good and reliable resource that can be used to settle eventual disputes even before they occur, and transfermakt.co is obviously the best resource for this purpose. What do you say? Monegasque (talk) 23:36, 4 January 2012 (UTC)

I understand your frustration with this user, but I am happy that he has improved the quality of articles he is creating. Most of them are players who have at least appeared in the Liga de Honra, and he is using the reliable source Foradejogo.net. I wish he would focus on improving some of the important biographies that are in need of attention, but at least he isn't creating articles for second division and lower players now. He may be causing other problems for you, so I'm sorry if you are experiencing more trouble. If he is vandalising pages, we can report it and have him blocked, but I haven't seen edits that were vandalism yet.

Hi Vasco, sorry if I was harsh. I didn't not really mean it in the way it was written. It was the end of the night and maybe I was a bit frustrated. You've done great work on here and I have no doubt that you will continue to do so. What I really meant to say is that you should always enjoy editing Wikipedia. Once you let it get the better of you, it will become more of a chore. Anyways, don't take my words too literally, I didn't really mean you should quit editing. However, I will say again, you should not be insulting other users, whether they are vandals or not. We all deal with vandalism every single day but as regular, experienced contributors, we should be able to take the higher ground. Anyways, take care, sorry to get you down if I did! Fabio Coltorti

Hello from Australia!

I really had no issues with your edits made on this article however there are a couple of things that I want to discuss. Firstly, I do understand that in the prose you will list the club as FC Lausanne-Sport and that it will be compressed in the box but by compression it should be Lausanne-Sport, not simply Lausanne. You won't see boxes listing Blackburn Rovers as simply Blackburn. I know it doesn't count for much but this is a club I support and I take good care of the club's article as well as its players. As for the cap count listed for all his clubs, I use the statistics provided by the Swiss Football Federation at football.ch because I feel that it is a legitimate source for that information. Please let me know how you feel after reading this. Thanks. --Spartan008 (talk) 23:41, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Hey, I appreciate your understanding, it's just that there is more than one club in Lausanne. Glad we could have an amicable discussion. And yes, BananaFingers is really an asshole and I just try to avoid him. I'm convinced that he's either a 16 year-old know-it-all or an angry 30 year-old who still lives with his parents. We've had our clashes so I'm just trying to keep my distance. I'm guess you have too! Anyways, cheers and good editing. --Spartan008 (talk) 23:59, 29 January 2012 (UTC)

Hola

Hola amigo Vasco,

Yes, the Simão vandal appears to have stopped, if it continues then place a request at WP:AIV in case I'm offline. As for Pedro Freitas, I agree he doesn't look notable - take it to AfD I'd say. Cheers, GiantSnowman 09:18, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

Hello. Don't think that I invented those statistics. I found them in the old donbalon.com website (It has helped me to complete statistics of players like Sergio Ramos for example, and Copa del Rey matches of a bunch of players)... However, as that website has been offline since some months ago and other sites don't show the same data, those numbers don't have references. I'll change them now, ¡y háblame en español hombre! Hi Vasco. First of all thanks for respecting my work, but if you disagree I have no problem with you editing it, as long as you justify your reasons. As for Cadamuro, what I meant by my edits is that he is not Spanish and this whole one name thing only applies to him during his time in Spain. In Sochaux, he was known by full his name and with Algeria he is known by his full name. The Algerian and French press refer to him by his full name as well, something they wouldn't do with say a Xavi and an Iniesta. So in his case, I prefer to use his full name rather than use his "Spanish name" (if I can call it that). I hope you understand the point I'm trying to get across. Also, when I made the edits and removed his football name, I did not realize I was reverting your work, so I apologize for that (I did not check the edit history). Take care and thanks for the message. TonyStarks (talk) 23:42, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

Hi Vasco, please see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football#Defaultsorts. GiantSnowman 09:32, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

If he struggles with English then a message in Portuguese could be a great idea to try & encourage him to speak - if he responds negatively, insults or attacks you, don't retaliate, just let me know straight away. GiantSnowman 19:48, 23 February 2012 (UTC)
Very good start indeed, well done! GiantSnowman 18:00, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
On the 'Renan Foguinho' example, I actually believe (shock!) his move was correct - 'Foguinho' is not a surname, it is part of his nickname. I believe the article should therefore, going off the WT:FOOTBALL discussion, moved to 'Renan Foguinho' - what do you think? GiantSnowman 09:34, 25 February 2012 (UTC)

Very odd move, though I doubt it's multiple accounts. I have cleaned up the article in question as well. GiantSnowman 16:06, 23 February 2012 (UTC)

Protection

Your userpage is indefinitely protected. The protection is semi-protection, which prevents anyone who isn't autoconfirmed (10 edits and an account at least four days old) from editing it. This particular user had 64 edits and an account that was six months old. Hut 8.5 11:11, 26 February 2012 (UTC)

I could indefinitely full-protect your userpage, but that's hardly ever done with user pages of active users. Personally I would just ignore it, the vandalism level isn't that high. Hut 8.5 13:38, 26 February 2012 (UTC)
I've full protected it for six months. I have your user page on my watchlist and I will try to remember to put the semi-protection back when the full protection expires. I'm recluctant to full protect it indefinitely and I can find hardly any cases of user pages that have been full-protected indefinitely in response to vandalism (and no recent ones). If you want to make an edit to your user page while it is protected feel free to ask me. Hut 8.5 19:02, 28 February 2012 (UTC)

Miguel Reina

Hi Vasco, I'm a little confused over your amendment to the Miguel Reina personal life section. The article for Reina Jr. was recently moved from José Manuel to Pepe on the basis of that being the subject's most common name in reliable English-language sources, per WP:COMMONNAME, so presumably it is most appropriate to refer to the article's new title when mentioning/linking him in other articles. It seems a little strange to refer to him as José Manuel (using his uncommonly-used first and middle names) when he is barely ever referred to by this name; as a random example, it would be akin to referring to Jamie Carragher as James Lee Duncan rather than just Jamie. But perhaps there's a Spanish naming convention I'm missing out on here. Anyway, just thought I'd bring this up with you. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 18:57, 5 March 2012 (UTC)

Felipe Mattioni

Why you removed all third parties ownership stuff. That had reliable source and in Portuguese, which said clearly Grêmio had sold the player in 2008. Milan actually borrowed him from the company and could be proved by the official transfer list? Please explain (if no explain i consider a edit war and see u at the admin notice board). Matthew_hk tc 02:01, 8 March 2012 (UTC)

If i am a reader, i would ask why in the second half of the content, Magasport appeared once (another one added by me). So, at least explained in the front, Grêmio had sold the rights to Maga in 2008 as stated by the club announcement.
For the infobox, you could treat the third parties ownership as a liquidity swap, which simply Grêmio received transfer fee early (and treat the loan was Grêmio grant the negotiation rights as bank interest). But in fact it could also treat likes Tevez, or Luis Fabiano, which neither Grêmio nor Milan nor Mallorca owned the full rights (both registration and eligibility to receive the transfer fee) Either one is ok but not so wise to put third parties ownership heavily on infobox. (So, if liquidity approach Ze Edu should on loan from Cruzeiro to Ajax and Parma. However lack of information for Filipe Luís Kasmirski, which Rentistas often a proxy for Juan Figer, just likes Hulk (footballer) deal)
P.S. Dídac Vilà joined Milan may be related to Mattioni, as Maga was set up by Italian. Nothing more legal than paid another club via player transfer. Mattioni was a total loss and the seller may refund. The other property Ze Edu joined Parma. Milan had deep friendship with Parma and Genoa recently, but it all a guess. It isn't a first time Italian club (or agent) set-up proxy club to buy players. Matthew_hk tc 02:55, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
And why the transfer fee of Pedro Alves da Silva is removed? Unimportant? Than the dead link tag? Everything point to edit war. Matthew_hk tc 11:19, 8 March 2012 (UTC)

Hi there MATTHEWHK, VASCO here,

again, maybe i did not edit correctly, but again, you ACCUSE ME of something (now of edit-warring). About the MAGA thing, you have been told before by someone at WP:FOOTY (you can ask again), that organizations or agencies do not go in infoboxes (that is why i removed it in Mattioni's case), and MAGA is still referred to in storyline. In P.Silva's case, i did not notice i removed any transfer fee, if i did i apologize and i will fix it immediately.

Happy weekend (and again, please stop accusing me of things, i still remember when i was an anon editor four/five years ago and you accused me TWICE of vandalizing articles, in Bruno Vale and John Mosquera, you NEVER apologized!), from Portugal - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 13:45, 8 March 2012 (UTC)

i had told you don't just simply reverting my edit.Preview what you remove. So, is that ok to add this [8] and this [9] back to article? Matthew_hk tc 13:48, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
I have added one of the refs you sent me to Mattioni's article, the other i could not, it's dead. --Vasco Amaral (talk) 14:50, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
How about transfer fee, Pedro Silva fee seems negligible (less than half million euro), how about the fee of Radamel Falcao García and Simão Sabrosa i added recently, Is that ok? It had source to prove. Matthew_hk tc 14:55, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
  • As i had told you before, i APOLOGIZE for removing the ref in Silva's article, it's there again. --Vasco Amaral (talk) 14:58, 8 March 2012 (UTC)
I forgot what i did in the past. But I should assume good faith on every wikipedian. I won't start edit war on old issue, just stick to the rule (the consent of footy and citation rule, no 3rr etc.) Is that ok? no war Matthew_hk tc 16:13, 8 March 2012 (UTC)

Re:Martin Pringle

Hi, I just felt you had made the page less informative by reducing the intro, which would of led to a "Lead too short" tag being placed on the page. You had initially put that Pringle had his horrific injury at Charlton, I mentioned Grimsby. In fairness both were horrific and I was present at the Grimsby v Stockport when he broke his leg. I feel the intro I put is perfectly fine but what we need to be looking at on this page is expanding the rest of it, like adding chapters for each clubs and improving the article. For example Darren Huckerby is a player that had a "lead too short" tag that I worked on by expanding the intro enabling me to take away the tag, also like on that page we need to be looking at adding more to the page and breaking into chapters for each club. Regards Footballgy (talk) 13:21, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

Don't get me wrong, I'm not working against you, if you want to modify it go for it, I just thought it was fine. The reason the amateur club are mentioned is because he still played in a Swedish league for that club and if they are notable enough to have there own page and are listed as his first career club then I see no reason not to mention them. Like I said Vasco if you want to re-write it again, be my guest. We just can't reduce it to the matter where a lead tag is placed on the page. My sole concern for that page is expanding the career and management section. Regards Footballgy (talk) 14:00, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

Dominguez

Hello. You're right, there should be consistency in whether club names are piped or not in the prose. I'm sorry my changes were inconsistent. However, as this is the English Wikipedia, we should be consistent in using whatever the clubs are referred to in English. Which is Barcelona, Kaiserslautern, Benfica, Birmingham City, Tottenham Hotspur, Sporting (or Sporting CP), Bayer Leverkusen and Vasco da Gama. There shouldn't be a special rule that applies to articles about Spanish and Portuguese players whereby they use club names with full punctuation.

As to 1. FC Kaiserslautern in the infobox, I personally don't know one way or the other; I assumed that it had been added by an editor who did know, because it was needed to distinguish clubs. If it isn't, then take it out again. Incidentally, if you need the U.D. to distinguish that Leiria club from another, please add it; I wouldn't know.

As to the BLP sources tag, there are no references in the club career section until Spurs sell Mr Dominguez to Leverkusen, including for things that really need them like his falling out of favour with George Graham. Please feel free to seek a second opinion on any of this. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 18:34, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

Regarding German clubs - see WP:KARLSRUHER as to the rationale. GiantSnowman 19:10, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
First of all, piping should be uniform i.e. pipe in the infobox AND the text. Secondly, WP:KARLSRUHER says to use common sense - "If you do insist on using one-word names, or town names, please check that it's appropriate, and that no other club uses that name." Why not ask ArtVandelay13 (talk · contribs) for clarification? He wrote it, after all. Cheers, GiantSnowman 21:25, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

Season ranges

One thing to remember is that WP:YEAR is not sport/football-specific, so I doubt any amendment could be made to allow for the closing year to be written out in short in the career statistics tables of footballers. Off topic, but in case it's of interest I've created Category:Portugal youth international footballers and have added it to a handful of articles. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 04:27, 17 March 2012 (UTC)

Hello Vasco, do you know anywhere on the web that lists Porto players and the number of appearances for the club. I'm not just after current players but historical as well. Cesar Rodriguez

Oi Vasco,

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Luis Enrique Martínez García. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware, Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made; that is to say, editors are not automatically "entitled" to three reverts.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 15:37, 31 March 2012 (UTC)

Hola! Hey Vasco, Two things. Firstly, I get that his footballing name's is freddy but that would be something to note in the article but in infoboxes we usually say the person's full name. Secondly, yes I didn't want to use that sumary which is why I was hesitant about pressing revert but I was in a vandal fighting program and the only summary it uses is vandalism otherwise I would have removed it as a good faith edit. I hope you understand. Best, --Kangaroopowah 01:53, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

Thank you

Ok, I understand your reasons, and thank you for including de catalan way in your article. However, maybe I haven't explained myself correctly because of my limited english knowledge. Basora hadn't a spanish name, despite what the official sites said. He's name was "spanished", maybe because of franquism, like most of the catalan names of that time -some people still have their name in spanish in some documents because of that period-. Anyway, I'm telling you this because as any person, he had a name in one way, and that was Estanislau, like Puyol is named Carles and not Carlos, or Fàbregas is named Cesc, not Paco. Of course, I'll understand if you aren't agree with me.

Thank you again for your answer, Vasco. freecatalonia46 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Freecatalonia46 (talkcontribs) 13:59, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

Connor Lade

Hello Vasco, in December I created a page for Connor Lade who signed with New York Red Bulls, the page was deleted as he had not made his pro debut. This weekend he debuted in the US top flight, the person who deleted the page is no longer on wikipedia, How can i restore the page? Thanks

About Vandalism

Hi. I was that guy from Brazil about the Spanish internacional caps. That's all right, my point is that the article where I saw that information had changed players and I presumed it was correct, so I've also edited Oscar García to Téllez and the "right" Sergio on that page 187.127.90.220 (talk) 00:35, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

Having fun

Hi Vasco, just thought I would write to you about a new project I started at Wikipedia. I made a list of players from a team I am interested in (you can see it here), then started to improve these articles specifically. It is quite enjoyable and I am sending some of them for DYK so there is extra publicity for the articles in question. No worries from vandals, no other concerns, just improving the coverage. If you are interested I could help you set up something similar, which may help you have more fun here. It's definitely an improvement for me! Regards Cloudz679 19:27, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

about the Simão Sabrosa article

Hello VascoAmaral, I realised that you've reverted my edit for the article Simão Sabrosa, I don't quite understand your reason of reverting it (Fine as it was thank you.). I do have to clarify that the edit as in a good faith and no vandalism has been done. I'm going to revert the edit and if you are in any chance, not satisfied with the sentence, we can have a discussion in the talk page of Simão Sabrosa. Thank you for your understanding. Yours faithfully, Kotakkasut. 14:39, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

Hello Vasco! The reason why I've used the word 'mononymous' is because he is well known by a single name, or mononym. In comparison, footballers such as Cristiano Ronaldo or Wayne Rooney are only known by their full name. Some other notable people who are known with one name, i.e. mononyms include, but not limited to: Beyonce, Rihanna, Shakira, Thalia and Asin. I hope these pages will enlighten you since you've mentioned that you have never seen an example of the word 'mononymous' in Wikipedia articles. Keep in mind that Wikipedia is a project that everyone can contribute into as this is a community encyclopaedia as long as it is editing in good faith.
Nah it's okay, no harm done :) I apologise if I was harsh to you... Yours faithfully, Kotakkasut. 04:19, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

your recent edits

Please refrain from pointless personal attacks like in these edits [11] [12] in the future. There is nothing wrong with linking to redirects, and there is also nothing wrong in linking unclear terms ("first division" and "league" could easily be different things). I don't really care to revert the change about twin brothers, but IMO that's anything but lead section material. People who have done something notable in their own right should not be defined by what their siblings did. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 22:48, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

Aceitón and Parejo

Hi Vasco. In terms of WP:NFOOTBALL it does nothing to assert notability; I think it would require a very lenient interpretation of criterion 1 to deem beach soccer players to have "represented their country in any officially sanctioned senior international competition". Further, the article currently fails WP:GNG as there is no "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject". And with Parejo and the 'loan' tag in the career stats, I see where you're coming from, but it makes sense to me for the infobox and career stats to be somewhat analogous, sharing the same key info. Hola, Vasco.

Hi Vasco - good to have you back here after your brief self-imposed exile. I have edited the Lezama article to add a bit more on his short international career; incidentally the match was won by Portugal 4–1, rather than the other way round as the article originally stated. My reason for contacting you, however, is about the keeper he replaced, José Bañón. Do you know anything about this guy? Presumably he was a goalkeeper, as he won the Zamora Trophy, but there is nothing in his article to confirm this. The article says he scored ten times for Real Madrid - unlikely for a keeper unless he was a penalty taker. The List of Real Madrid C.F. players has him as a keeper with 159 appearances, zero goals. Spanish Wikipedia shows him as a "Portero" which I believe translates as a midfielder. There also appears to be confusion over his international career. The Spanish article says he was called up 11 times but only made one international appearance (in the match where he was substituted by Lezama), so presumably he just sat on the bench; in the English article, this has become "He played 11 matches for Spain". Are you able to re-improve the José Bañón article? Cheers. -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 05:31, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

Great work on the improvements to the Jose Banon article - well done! Thanks. -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 05:22, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

Categories

Thanks for adding those categories, was surprised when I saw the Segunda División one hadn't yet been created. Not sure I agree with you on the Segunda División B category. Competing in this league is not an indication of notability for players (going by WP:NFOOTBALL), but I don't think that means there shouldn't be a category for it. If the potential is there for it to be well populated I don't see any issue. For instance, Category:Football Conference players and Category:Northern Premier League players exist and are healthily populated despite not being fully pro leagues. Ángel Martínez

Hi Vasco. Hope you don't mind if I bring a couple of things up with you about your edit on the Ángel article? There are just a few words you have used that are not correct in English. For instance, "surplus at requirements" should be "to requirements", also "the deal collapsed" is correct whereas "the deal fell off" that you also re-instated is not. There are a couple of others too and I hope you will not mind that I change them back to how I had amended them previously so that the wording is correct in English. Thanks and best wishes, (edited to add: sorry, just some of the terminology you are using is presumably correct in Portugese. However, unfortunately it isn't so in English.) --♦Tangerines♦·Talk 19:44, 1 May 2012 (UTC)

Names of footballers

Greetings. What exactly do you mean on Jacobo Sanz Ovejero by "footballers have a different approach to them"? Is there some kind of consensus against using the "last name, first name" format? In fact, the name sorting guidelines require a "last name, first name" order even at Spanish names. In any case, the "NAME" parameter should have "Jacobo" in it and "ALTERNATIVE NAME" "Sanz Ovejero, Jacobo" (they are actually vice-versa now). Cheers. Kosm1fent 12:40, 4 May 2012 (UTC)

Re: Zoran Vujović (and brother)

Sure, it's okay now. FPR Yugoslavia is the acronym for the Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia, which was socialist Yugoslavia's name between 1945 and 1963. The reason why we put the Yugoslav republics inside "country of birth" infobox parameters in biographies is that the republics were still each a country inside the Yugoslav state.

The situation is somewhat delicate because of scores of anonymous vandalism that happens for a multitude of reasons: Yugoslavia has long dissolved and many players weren't locally known as "Yugoslav" players, so it often happens that these country parameters get shifted randomly between the republic and state names as the random vandal prefers. The fact that infoboxes tend to put inconsequential information such as birth places in prominent places in articles doesn't help - they often serve little purpose but attract such vandalism.

So the solution is a compromise - put both country and state name, as precise as possible (that's why we use the FPR prefix for the 1945-1963 period etc), so we have a consistency that will hopefully deter vandalism. My thinking is that when people see disorder, they don't have many second thoughts about messing it up in another subtle way; when they see an intricate order, they might be wary. Ultimately even if they do decide to mess it up, it's that much easier to detect and revert for everyone when they see a precise version vs. some anonymous tripe. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 07:33, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

(talk-page stalker) @Joy, sorry to come into this, but I have Vasco´s talk page in my watchlist so ended up being inevitable. Sorry to say but your interpretation of Yugoslav republics being a country is polemical, at least. Also, there is an actual consensus to use city+country (sovereign, of curse) in the infoboxes, and to use everything else in the article body. All editors supported this, while it was me who proposed using republics in between, however the proposal was rejected. Sorry Joy, but the solution you propose goes against the eastablished consensus. I would not mind at all opening a new thread on this, however in the meantime I am not sure if doing it the other way around would be benefitial. FkpCascais (talk) 07:50, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
Polemical according to whom? Where was the proposal rejected exactly? I remember no such discussion, maybe I missed it. --Joy [shallot] (talk) 17:30, 11 May 2012 (UTC)
I never heard of Yugoslav Republics being ever considered a country, but even so, you know very well that the word country in this context meant sovereign country, so by either way we end up having the same. The discussion occured some time ago (year and a half maybe?) at WikiProject Football. Among Croatian editors Timbouctou was present and he also voted against, and among others, one of his reasons was the lenght of the "country" SR Bosnia and Herzegovina which will make it too large for infobox use: exemple Mostar, SR Bosnia and Herzegovina, SFR Yugoslavia...
Btw Joy, the ammount of vandalism has been minimal in the last year, even the Kosovar Albanian articles have been quite stable about the birthplace (seems that even they accepted it as they were the most vandalistic ones during 2-3 years ago) so not much of a major reason anymore.
Listen, I honestly wouldn´t mind that we have a new discussion, a new consensus if necessary, and I really don´t have such a strong view on this and I have been allways using the Yugoslav Republics, pardon, "countries" (OK, I promise to stop with this) in the article body, I just feel more confortable if we work same way, and not ones doing it one way, other in another. PS: I will try somehow to find you the discussion, but it was really long time ago and the archives are huge. FkpCascais (talk) 01:51, 12 May 2012 (UTC)
Oh, seems that American biographies often use their interin state in between (either in a shortened format as in Will John or extended, as in Jeff Cassar). Hey, here comes a good argument for your case. But some countries don´t, so we should built a consensus on this. FkpCascais (talk) 02:05, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

Hola Vasco,

Removing sourced information

Perhaps you might explain this edit, in which you removed valid sourced information about the subject's latest employment without mentioning or explaining that removal in your edit summary, instead used your edit summary to insult the editor who added that information, and marked the whole as a minor edit. Struway2 (talk) 09:54, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

If you don't enjoy editing here anymore, then you might be wise to stop for a bit, and maybe you can come back with more positive feelings. But while you are here, please don't remove valid sourced information for no apparent reason, and consider changing your settings to not mark everything as a minor edit. If an edit changes any content, as opposed to formatting, grammar, or reverting blatant vandalism, it isn't minor by definition: see When to mark an edit as a minor edit. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 14:38, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
Since you ask, no, changing stats isn't minor, because it's changing content. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 15:08, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

Re: I can complain too

Well if there is no consensus like you said, you shouldn't remove it, plain and simple. If a fellow editor feels like its a useful addition without it violating any policy, why would you remove it? Yes, most of us can count to 2-3, but some people might not want to bother and may just want to read the total .. and also, I did not call you a "bigot loner" or say anything even closely related to that, so let's not even get started with those kinds of comments please, I've always respected you, whether in edit summaries, your talk page or the WP:FOOTY discussion and I would never ever use those kinds of words. Also, I have no problem with you complaining, I know we are all trying to achieve the same goal in improving articles on Wikipedia. However, you really need to tone down your edit summaries, you use a very condescending tone, whether you mean it or not. When you use that kind of tone, don't be surprised when people get annoyed and use the same tone back at you. Take care. TonyStarks (talk) 23:37, 16 May 2012 (UTC)

B teams - not just Real Madrid Castilla

Hello. Sorry, I thought that using RM Castilla was correct because that was what Madrid wanted. There was a statement about it when they received approval returning to the Castilla name. When I find the article, I will post it. Anyways, it seems that no one cares or at least none of the senior editors do not seem to worry so I will leave them alone. An arguement can be used that Plus Ultra & Castilla should be changed. You are the second person who has mentioned some riff between José Mourinho and Alberto Toril. I really do not know, but Mourinho does not run the youth section so he should have no say in the matter. Unless he wants Manolo Díaz from Real Madrid C, I will not worry about it. I do not think Pedro Mendes is such good player; anyone who can not see that Dani Carvajal belongs on the 1st team, should not be making any decisions for the reserves!! Good hearing from you! Makeover of Portuguese football

Hi there

You may have noticed that I am seeking to undertake a makeover of Portuguese football on Wikipedia. It will not happen over night and involves a lot of work. There are three issues that I would like to address concerning page titles of articles and wondered whether you are supportive:

1. We use the full club name e.g. Clube de Futebol União de Lamas and not the abbreviated version C.F. União de Lamas. However abbreviated versions of the name will be linked to the article.

2. In the season articles we use the Portuguese name e.g. 2011–12 Segunda Divisão and not 2011–12 Portuguese Second Division.

3. In the District Football Associations we use the Portuguese name e.g. Associação de Futebol de Aveiro and not Aveiro Football Association.

We can then place the change to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football as we do not currently have a Task Group.

It would also be helpful if you can advise on the criteria you use for the inclusion of Notable former players in club articles.

Kind regards League Octopus (League Octopus 10:47, 23 May 2012 (UTC)).

NB: Sent to Secretaria and Vasco Amaral. Are there any other prime editors covering Portuguese football?

(talk page stalker) It would be a good idea to present these proposed changes at WT:FOOTY before you make them, given the number of articles that will be affected. GiantSnowman 11:39, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
